Chapter 4 - Chaos Begins
D9F - Mae Lumiete - 14
As I wake up for a second, I forget where I am, but I remember all too well as I feel the ache in my arm. I don't have any medical supplies, or anything of use at that, and my wound is starting to look a bit infected. I think my best bet is to find some water to both drink and clean my cut.
Just as I'm climbing down the mountain to where I think I saw a stream I hear voices. I feel myself go tense and though I want to run I can't make myself. 'Look what we have here Vic!' says the guy from 4. At that moment my fight or flight kicks in, and I choose flight. As I try to run the 4 grabs me, he raises his sword ready to strike when the other boy says 'Damian, let me finish what I started.' He's the one that injured my arm, so I guess he feels it's only right he kills me. Fine by me as long as it's quick. But the end doesn't come. Instead, I feel a sharp pain in my leg, and then my stomach. I scream agony. After a while I stop screaming and instead cry softly until finally.
Finally.
The sweet relief of death comes, as I think of the wheat fields that surround my home.
One last time.

Boom
I stop suddenly when I hear the sound of a cannon. Was it careers? Almost definitely, it's too early for mutts and I doubt if any other tributes have been around each other since the bloodbath, well other than the Jemima and Teagan, the alliance I wanted to join. Teagan wouldn't let me join because I was only 14. Sure no 14-year-old had ever won the games, but there's a first time for everything. I am actually skilled with a knife - seeing as I worked in the butcher's section of the ranch back in 10 - unlike Jemima who didn't seem to have any apparent skills and comes from an urban district! Not that it matters, I'm better alone anyway and will prove them all wrong when I win the games and they're… well… they'll have lost.
Just then I remember that I'm supposed to be hunting for food, although luckily my bag came with a bottle (which I quickly filled up from a stream) and some crackers, so I'm not too low on supplies. Still, as I see an animal that looks a bit like a rabbit, I plunge my knife into its skull and begin skinning and gutting it expertly.
Just as I'm lighting a small fire to cook it, I hear a stick crack behind me. Without even thinking I turn and throw my knife into whatever's behind me. As I hear a loud cry of pain, I realise what I've just hit. The district 3, Josiah I think his name is. His eyes are wide with fear and as I edge forward, he starts trying to run. But he can't because his wound - the wound I gave him - has turned his stomach into a bloody mess. The look of pain mixed with horror in his face as I step towards him and I say, 'I am so, so, sorry.' He lets out a mangled scream as I lift my knife to his neck. 'Goodbye.' He says with his one last breath, before I feel his blood trickling down my hand and hear his cannon sound.

How could we not have any kills today! Carlotta and I searched throughout all of the forest side of the arena, and the only sign of other tributes we saw was a stamped-out fire. Just to rub salt in the wound the boys got two kills…
Just as I go to get some beef strips, I see Victor come up behind me and say 'Congrats on the kill. Was it you or Carlotta?' Although I'm confused, I smile and reply 'Mine, Carlotta said I could take them.'
'Well, congrats!' He says as he walks off, part of me wishing that we had met in another circumstance. I don't know what but something about him reminds me of Alon. Not that it matters, I'm here to win the games and avenge my boyfriend - Alon's memory.
A bright light shines as the anthem plays, the list of the dead. Great, now I will know who I killed. As the boy from 3 shines in the sky the others start clapping me. Carlotta looks round, confused, but plays along flawlessly. After he disappears the 9 girl shows above us, and after Victor finishes his mock bowing, she disappears as well.

Day 2 is over, and both me and Arabella are still alive, I'm glad she's made it this far. Though it's clear that she's not going to outlive me I still want her to survive for a while, after all she's a nice kid. But this is the hunger games and there can only be one victor, and this year it's going to be me. It must be. I have my parents, my younger brothers - Blake and Austin, my soon to be wife, Eira. And most importantly, our baby girl, Fawn. Only 4 weeks old, she must grow up with her dad, and I will make sure that she does.
Whatever the cost.
As I try to fall asleep in the cave, I found I hear a strange noise outside, I walk towards the entrance and try to look around in the darkness. But as my eyes finally adjust to the pitch black, see nothing, but here the worst thing a parent can hear.
Their child's screams.
Okay I've started to improve, barely but still...
