Chapter 34: The sleeping leaf rescued us

I watched Shade didn't do anything, with his face still fear. The mouse wimped and saw how trembled it was beneath Goth's foot. He notices him stood in silence and snorted.

"I thought as much," He crosses his arms and Throbb laughs. Marina and I both gasped silently and Goth snarled. "You have no intention of leading us to your colony. You have lied to buy yourself more time." He came up to him and Shade look up at him in fear.

"For now your time...has run out."He grabs his neck and jerks him up. I didn't know what to do to help, I looked over and saw Marina begin grabbed by Throbb and he shows Shade he's close to her, ready to eat her anytime soon. That made the young Silverwing stuttered and begin quickly tell another fib.

"I-I'll gladly kills this mouse Goth," His eyes scanned around to find anything to help his bluff."It's just here in the northern forest we have the custom to begin every meal with..." He spotted dull red leaves. "Uh, a salad!"

"Salad?" Throbb blinked and Marina looked at him puzzled. I did remember telling him about what humans eat and I couldn't imagine that he's using this for saving our lives. I glance at the bushes and realized those leaves he was looking at were actually the sleeping herbs, the one that we encounter before, I hide my smile. Shade you're a genius! Goth puts him down and with flash Shade flew over towards the leave bushes and grab a couple of them in his feet.

"How do think we stay warm from all this cold?" He chuckled and fly back with a bunch of leaves, giving it to Goth and Throbb. They both got some handful in their two hands and Goth was studying them. He hums and turns over to his brother in law like he's waiting for him to eat it first. Throbb, like was in much hunger, gobble it up like there's no tomorrow. I winch in disgust of how he eats sloppily, and I can see drools and crumbs of leaves falling from his lips.

"Mmmm not bad," He grinned.

"A custom you say?" Goth asked when Shade landed. "Keeps your warm?" Shade gives him a nod and he turns to look at the leaves in his hand. I held my breath when he sniffed them and took some in his mouth and chew it slowly. We all waited and Shade glance at Marina and me with hope. Right when the giant bat swallowed he look at us sharply.

"I've followed your custom, now kill the mouse!"

"No!" Marina covers her mouth in terror. I breathed heavily and see Shade lean over to the mouse with his fang showing. I was getting anxious about how long it's taking that sleeping pill to kick in. What if the leaves were not the ones? What if Shade mistakes them..? My thoughts were cut short when we all hear Throbb groaning, right before Shade can sink his teeth into the mouse's neck. I turn sharply and saw him looking all tired, he falls to his knees.

"I don't feel so good." Throbb moaned. Goth gasped and I can see he was too getting sleepy, with his eyes getting all drowsy. He didn't understand why all of sudden he feels tired and looked over to the leaves Shade has given him. Soon he begins to realize the plant he has eaten caused his body to go numb. He growled at us but mostly at Shade.

"He has tricked us!" He was about to launch at him but Shade dodges his attack. He snarled and glared at both of us deadly. Marina almost screamed and I was just about to pull her away so she won't be attacked. We both watch Goth raise his claws getting ready to strike us out but stops in midair, looking like he's going to pass out soon. Shade flew beside us and took Marina up quickly. I scooted away when he crashed landed on his stomach. I laughed and went to grab Marina's feet for her to lift me, but my foot was yanked down I yelped. I fall on my back close to where Throbb was and see Goth grabbing my leg, pulling me to him.

"You are not going anywhere!" He growled. I cried and use my mittens to hold on to something but he keeps dragging me close.

"Help!" I kicked and squirm and Shade flew do to get my mitten. But it pulled off and my naked hand was free giving Goth more chance to bring me closer. I gasp when he hovers over me I wimped..but he was getting more sleepy, barely keeping his eyes open.

"You and Shade will pay for what you had do..!" He tries to speak but yawns loudly. Without thinking straight I begin to sing softly, hopefully, it'll lure him to slumber.

"Go to sleep," I sang."Nighty night, Go to sleep Goth." I see he was listening to my lullaby and surprisingly he was getting more sleepy. I sang softly even though my voice was not that great, no matter it's saving me anyway. "Go to sleep, the great prince, soon zotz will watch over you, close your eyes and dream.." He was getting to the point of falling asleep I continue to sing. "Go to sleep, nighty night. Go to sleep.."I gasped when Goth finally falls down, which he landed on me. My body was crushed against his, and my whole face was planted on his chest. I turn my head to the side to get fresh air, and I can hear him breathe calmly.

"Goth..?" I whispered. "Goth? Are you awake?" Please be sleeping! I can only hear him moan and begin to snore lightly. I sighed in relief and use my hands to push him off. When he rolled over, I crawl over to the nearest tree, away from him. My friends landed between me and Shade gasps.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I think so." I put my mitten back on and added getting up. "Good thinking on those leaves,"

He forms a smile, looking proud of himself. "Thanks let's get out of here before they wake up." I grab my bag to put it over my shoulder as Marina lifted herself up and I grabbed her feet. All of us took off in the sky leaving Goth and Throbb unconscious.

Third's Person POV

On the other side of the forest, Ursa was still leading the animals out of the Western valley with Sam and Jacques joining them. Both of them were resting on her back after she'd given them permission. The robin was strumming his guitar, humming a tune to make their journey a bit entraining. All of sudden Ursa stops dead, gasping. The other animals look at where their leader was seeing and their color face drained. Jacques however, was still strumming unknowing what was going on that Sam grabs his guitar to stop playing. He looked at his friend in annoyed but stops to see his horror look. The Robin glanced at the direction to where he was staring and his eyes went huge, see a dead animal that was left to rot and they can still see little bones. Ursa sniffed out with her big nose and growl lowly.

"Wolves," She gestures the animal to keep moving and each one being to mutter one another, not understanding why this is happening to them. Jacques decided to play some soft tunes on his guitar to help ease their worries.

Ashlies POV

I was holding on Marina's feet while we all three far and fast as we can away from Goth and Throbb before they wake up any soon. I couldn't help thinking of an earlier encounter with him, of Goth asking for my hand in marriage. My expression was disgusted. I did not understand why he wanted to marry me now, and I'm a human he's proposing. What would his colony think?! Having a girl being married to a savage giant bat? Then an image came to me if I was able to marry him being tiny, with a Mayan decoration and me in a royal wedding dress traditional with Goth by my side. I can hear another giant bat speaking to us...

"I now pronounce you husband and wife, king and queen of our colony. You may kiss your bride…

"NO! No no no no no no no! He can't make me! I don't wanna kiss him!"I trash my legs almost a bit but stops to hear Marina call me.

"Ashlie?" I looked up and see her looking puzzled by my sudden reaction."…are you okay?"

"Um, yes sorry, "I answered, glancing down in embarrassment and Shade flew beside us.

"What are you saying?"

I swallowed. "Nothing Shade, I was talking to myself." He raises his eyebrow but Marina cuts in.

"Are you sure your colony headed this way?" She asked.

"Positive," He replied. Then I hear her gulped.

"Then we're not out of trouble yet." I looked up at where she was seeing and I almost stop my breath. Ahead of us was a snowy mountain and I can hear a harsh wind coming down from the top. I flinched, thinking of the coldness I'm going to face. And my warm clothing will not protect me enough from its cruel freezing.

There's no way we need to go through it.
