Hellboy growled as he stomped out of Manning's office, slamming the door behind him. Manning had simply called him in to give an update regarding Agent Kit. Whatever Manning had attempted, he failed. The damn agent would be back to work sooner than they thought. He knew it wasn't Manning's fault. He really did try for him, but the agent's father had more pull than either of them thought.
He was so angry he didn't care that the agents around him in the hallway stared at him. If he had Liz's powers, he would already be lit in flames. He ignored them as he walked through the corridors, heading towards an elevator. He needed to calm down before he went up to the roof. He didn't want Angel to see him in that way.
The doors opened as he hit the button, and he stepped in. As soon as the doors shut, he let out a roar and slammed a fist into the wall closest to him. The metal dented in. He hit the emergency stop button and the carriage stopped and lights dimmed. He dropped his head into his hands and took in a deep breath. The anger simmered under his skin, but he continued to breathe and soon enough, the anger dimmed.
He lifted his head and blew out a breath. He looked to the side and winced at the damage he caused. He'd have to fix that somehow. But first, Angel. Just the thought of her helped his anger cool even more. Watching her fly beneath the stars would help him a lot. Then maybe he would be able to express his anger in a healthier way.
It had been a long time since the thought of a woman helped his anger subside. Liz had done that for him too. But Angel…the thought of Angel brought his anger to a pinpoint. He pressed the emergency button and the lights brightened up. The carriage moved upwards again. He adjusted his jacket, making sure it looked nice.
The doors opened and he stepped out. There was a small set of stairs he had to take, and he took it. Step by step, he got closer to the door of the roof. With each step he took, he thought more of her. He couldn't wait to see her spread her wings the way she was meant to. And fly. Fly with purpose and freedom.
He took the last step and approached the door. He grabbed the knob and twisted. The door opened and a blast of cool night air hit him. He took a deep breath, taking in the coolness. It woke him up. He stepped across the threshold as the door widened.
Then suddenly a flash of pain exploded on the back of his head. He fell to his knees with a roar. He looked up to see Angel bound on her knees, blood trickling down her forehead. Her mouth bound with a thin fabric. It muffled her scream as another flash of pain had him falling to the ground. Darkness edged his vision as he laid there, looking at Angel. A pair of black boots stepped in front of his eyesight.
Then darkness overtook him.
Angel screamed through her bound mouth, swearing at the two men. She watched as the man who had shocked her with the stun gun throw aside the pipe. It landed a few feet away with a loud clatter. The one with the boots turned away from Hellboy and walked over to her.
Agent Kit kneeled when he approached her. He caressed her cheek with a finger, and she threw her head back. He grabbed her jaw with his hand and jerked her head.
"Scream all you want freak. Nobody can hear you," Kit snarled.
She jerked her shoulders forward as if she wanted to attack him, but she couldn't move. He laughed.
"Look at you. You're not afraid of me anymore, are you?" He said as he grabbed the ropes that bound her midsection. "These ropes will hold you. Keep those fucking wings inside."
He jerked the ropes, shaking her. He stood up, her eyes following him. He turned around to the other man, "Sit him up. Wake him up."
The other agent struggled but managed to pull Hellboy up. The motions jarred Hellboy awake, but he barely opened his eyes. He moaned, dazed. He wrapped rope around Hellboy's thick wrists behind his back and jerked hard. His eyes finally snapped open.
Once he was aware of his surroundings, he growled and shook his wrist. Dizziness assaulted him and he moaned. He nearly fell forward but the man grabbed him and jerked him upwards. Hellboy looked up and spotted him. He recognized him as the agent he had trusted Angel with. He couldn't wait to break his neck with his bare hands.
"So, now that you're awake, we can get this party started."
Hellboy froze as he recognized the voice. He looked over and spotted the very man he had just had a meeting with Manning about. Agent Kit.
"You fucking asshole," Hellboy snarled.
Kit stood by the kneeling Angel. Hellboy looked at her. He had only a split second to look at her before but now he could see more. She kneeled on her thighs, thick rope binding her arms to her body tightly. There was no way her wings could be released. Dried blood made a path down her face from her forehead. Fabric wound through her mouth and tied behind her head.
He growled. They had hurt her. Made her bleed. He would kill them both.
"You touch her, you're dead," He growled.
Kit laughed, "Too late! I already touched her."
Hellboy jerked forward but the man pulled him back. Then kicked him in the side. He winced at the impact and jerked his head towards him. "I'm killing you first."
Kit sighed, "Enough with the death threats. I can guarantee that neither of you two will live. I'm so sick of you freaks in this world."
Hellboy looked back towards him. Then he shifted his eyes to Angel. He didn't dare pull his eyes away from her.
"I joined the bureau thinking we'd be protecting the world from the likes of you," Kit spoke as he looked down at Angel. "But instead, we're tasked with protecting you." He lashed out with his foot and connected with her side. She yelled as the sound of a rib breaking echoed in the night air. She fell to her side, curling her body inwards.
"Leave her alone!" Hellboy yelled.
Kit looked at Hellboy and walked over to him. He bent down, eye to eye with Hellboy. "It's a pity you fell for her. Because by the time this night ends, she'll be dead. And so will you, freak," He spat at Hellboy. "You never should've been brought into this world. It'll be my job to take you out."
He stood up then launched a punch at Hellboy's face, connecting with his jaw. Hellboy's face jerked to the side then looked back at Kit. His lip bled. He watched Kit as he turned around on his heel and walked to Angel. He grabbed the rope that bound her and lifted. He forced her to stand. He ignored the cry she let out. Then he dragged her to the edge.
"Try rescuing her now," He snarled as he lifted her on the edge and pushed her.
"No!" Hellboy roared as Angel screamed.
