Sara was far from happy to know Scott and the Tempest were coming to Kadara. She was only now starting to settle and getting used to being away from her crew. She wanted space to adjust before being ready to see everyone again.
Reyes was her battering ram when he first told her. But when she found out Spender was coming to Kadara, her mood shifted. She despised the man, her thoughts had wandered to how he'd even survived when she exiled him.
The Tempest had already landed at the Port. Reyes was waiting for Sara to finally give him the go-ahead she was ready to see her brother again. It took nearly three hours, but she finally relented and nodded to him.
"SAM, let them know," Reyes orders as they both leave the Collective base. The Port was calmer this time of the day, some businesses closing for the day and other openings for the imminent nightlife. Krogan were the worst during the evenings, spending most of their time getting rowdy and drinking into the next day. Reyes made sure his men kept close eyes on anyone who seemed to want to get extra jumpy and confident.
Sara sighed as they both walked hand in hand to the docking bays. "You might have to hold me back when we see Spender," she grumbles.
Reyes squeezes her hand, "don't let him annoy you. I'm sure Drack is keeping him on a short leash." Reyes still hadn't told Sara exactly why Scott and Spender were coming to see her, just it was important and she couldn't ignore him on this.
They walked through the last set of the doors to the docking bay, Scott was already standing there. Jaal and Cora are at his side. He was smiling but looked down with Sara instantly glaring at him.
"Sara," Cora calls as she rushes over and scoops her friend up in her arms. Sara giggles, patting Cora's back in return. Reyes ended up looking past Scott to Drack and stood by the docking doors. His eyes almost fell out of their sockets when he finally realises who Spender is.
"Este hijo de puta," he growls as he near flies across the short space and smashes Spender into the metal door. His hands wrapped around his throat.
"Reyes!" Scott shouts as they all rush over to break them up. Drack was stunned, not realising just how quickly Reyes had moved and gotten Spender from his casual grasp.
"Why is this fucker in my port?" he hisses. Spender is clawing at Reyes's arms, but the man isn't budging. It takes Drack and Scott to pull Reyes off him completely. Sara stands in front of him, placing her hands on his chest.
"Calm down. Why did you attack him?" she asks. She looks at Spender, he looks down at the ground, rubbing his sore throat.
"That piece of shit has caused many issues for me. Stole my cargo and turned my own people against me." Sara looks between them both, then narrows her brows and looks at Scott.
Scott pulls Spender towards him, making sure Reyes can't get to him again. "He knows what he did was wrong, he's here to help us." Reyes throws his arms at him, not buying Scott's words.
"Like hell, he is," he shouts as he turns away from them all. "Get him out of here!"
"Reyes, come on. You know we need him to do this," Cora says. He puts his hands on his hips, looking at the empty port in front of him.
"Need him for what?" Sara asks.
Scott leaves Spender with Drack, moving to his sister. She backs away when he gets a bit too close. He sighs, "I know you hate me. But if you give me a chance to explain. This will all make sense."
Sara looked at Reyes for advice, but he was still looking away from them all. She looks at Jaal, he nods at her to listen to him. "Fine, come on," she waves them to follow. Reyes grunts, but nods they could come through the port.
It took over two hours and a lot of convincing until Sara finally believed Scott's words. She only believed him when SAM confirmed from his body scans, he wasn't lying or holding back. Though still annoyed that all this has happened, she was happy to let Spender speak and retell everything he'd told Scott hours prior.
"So," Reyes mumbles from the corner of his office. "What exactly do we do now?"
"SAM, did you find any information about the connection Tann's team found?" Scott asks. The AI comes to life through Sara's omni-tool.
"Yes, though what Tann told you was correct. The technology they believed they had would not be strong enough to break my connection to Sara. He'd merely kill us both trying." Sara groaned in disgust. Tann had hit a whole time low.
Spender sits forward in his small chair in the far corner. "I can testify to the other Nexus leaders?"
Jaal nods, "that would work. Can you call a meeting without Tann being there?" he asks Scott.
"I'm not sure." He looks to Reyes. The man rolled his eyes, everything was now falling back onto his shoulders.
"I've got my own issues to deal with here. I can't keep running off to sort out Nexus problems." He tried to speak in a soft tone, but there was a bite behind his words. He was tired of being the pawn between the Tempest crew, Kadara and Initiative. He had a lot of power and resources, but he'd neglected Kadara for too long and now his operations were suffering from it.
Cora grunts at him. "Kandros might listen to you, the Turian may hate exiles. But he has a soft spot for you."
Reyes laughs, "yes. Because I've gotten most of the equipment his dear strike teams need."
"Can you at least get the meeting?" Sara asks. She placed her hand on his, even though he didn't want to be involved anymore, but he just couldn't say no to her.
"Fine," he groans. Sara smiles in appreciation. Scott clears his throat, getting both of their attention, they both look up at him.
"Now that's settled. Morda had some... rules she forced me to agree to for us to get Spender." Sara turns to fully face her brother, his hooded eyes told her it wasn't good rules he'd agreed to.
"What are they?" she asks.
"First she expects us to hand Spender back after we are done with him." Sara nods, that was reasonable. Even if Spender was treated like shit with the Krogan, at least he was alive.
Reyes leans on his hip, "what's the other?" Scott clears his throat.
"She wants Tann," he blurts out.
Sara's mouth drops open, then closes as she feels it go dry. "What do you mean... have him?"
Cora and Jaal look at each other, seeing the tension run across the room. "She expects us to give Tann to her when he's exiled for everything he's done."
"How in the hell do we do that?" Sara asks. "Kidnap him when he leaves?"
Reyes smirks, "that isn't a bad idea." Cora snorts.
Sara shakes her head, and looks down at her boots. "I am not doing that to please Morda. She owes me too much to piss me off now."
"I agreed as the Pathfinder, not you," Scott points out. Jaal swallows heavily as he watches Sara snap her head towards her brother.
"Yeah, I already fucking know that. You shouldn't have." Reyes waves his hands to stop the squabbling siblings.
"I will handle it. I am tired of you both arguing constantly." Sara and Scott both narrow their eyes at each other before finally stepping down and turning their backs to each other. "Sara, go with Scott and the Tempest to the Nexus. I will sort out the meeting with Kandros."
"What about you?" she asks with a pout. Reyes smiles, moving closer to her.
He brushes her hair behind her ear. "I have too much to do here, dove. And Keema will kill me if I leave again. Sort this and return home to me," he whispers, kissing her forehead. Sara hums, closing her eyes to lean into his lips.
"Fine, but I won't be gone long." She turns to Scott. "I'll meet you on the Tempest in two hours, we can leave then."
"Fine with me," he snaps as he turns on his heel and walks out. Sara rolls her eyes, waving to Jaal and Cora as they both say their goodbyes.
"You are both so alike," Reyes jokes. Sara gasps, playfully punching his arm.
"No we aren't," she says with no confidence in her words.
Sara headed back to the house, needing to pack her bags for the short trip. Her mind ran wild with the outcome of all this could be. Tann might even get to keep his job. Salarians could talk their way out of death itself, he'd only need to convince the other Nexus leaders his actions were the right call for the Initiative's future. She could only hope they'd listen to Spender and accept Tann is not all good as he makes himself out to be.
A/N: I've been gone from this story way too long. I've missed Reyes and Sara, but I'm back and hopefully will have this story on track for the finale. I'm unsure when it will exactly end, I have a lot still to give to this story. Until next time.
Este hijo de puta: This son of a bitch.
