"Robin. Nico Robin." The woman introduced herself. Law liked the sound of her name, it rang quite nicely in the ear and came off the tongue easily.

As much as he hated pleasantries, he didn't find this woman too annoying. In fact, he'd even dared to say there was an air of familiarity that radiated from her.

"Your file says you're a teacher at Grand Line university."

"That's correct, I'm a history professor."

Law's eyes widened. A professor, huh? Her file says that she'd just turned thirty years old last week-

"You don't look that old." He spat. Oops, he probably should've phrased that a little nicer. Robin blinked twice before a smile crept onto her face.

"Or at least," He cleared his throat. "Definitely not older than the geezers who were there when I went to the school."

"I could say the same thing about you." She laughed.

"Tch."

Law grunted, was she assuming he was older than she was? Maybe he really needed to catch up on sleep to avoid looking twenty years older than he actually was.

"How old were you when you got your PhD?" He demanded, arms folded over his chest. There was no way this woman was already teaching university at thirty...

"Twenty..." She hummed, looking up and placing a finger on her cheek. "Twenty-two."

"I was the same age when I got mine." He huffed.

"What an uncanny coincidence." Robin giggled. "You must be an extremely intelligent man, Dr. Law."

"How did your chemotherapy go?" He sighed, getting back to the more important topics.

"Pretty well according to Chopper."

"You know that little kid?"

"He's actually one of my students. He's such a bright young boy, I'm glad he's learning from the best in the field."

"Flattery doesn't get you anything from me." Law sneered.

"I would never attempt to." Robin chuckled. "It was actually Chopper who suggested that I come get treated at Heart Hospital."

Law couldn't explain it, he had these strange feelings when he was with her and was somehow so captivated by her. Her blue eyes seemed to pull him in and her sultry voice was almost hypnotic.

"You, don't have any other patients to tend to?"

"Not at the moment. I've been begging for more time on my research and less time performing eight hour surgeries."

"Being the top doctor must be hard."

"If only that geezer Marco could recover already."

"Marco?"

"A senior doctor who fractured his ankle a few months ago. He's another big name and he'll be back soon, but with him gone a lot more has fallen on my plate."

"I see. Don't feel pressured to stay with me. I'm sure you could use some rest."

She was right. He was exhausted. They'd called him to work on a four hour surgery last minute the night before and he couldn't remember if he'd gotten more than two hours of sleep.

"I think you should take a nap."

"I don't recall you being a medical professor." Law scolded. "I only take diagnosis and treatment instructions from certified doctors."

"If you say so." Robin sighed. "Chopper always mentions that you work too hard."

That little runt.

"Fine I'll go take a nap."

"Wonderful." Robin smiled at him. Law called in Chopper to keep an eye on his patient while he took his so called needed nap.

Robin adjusted herself under the blanket and watched as her bright eyed student trickled in.

"How are you feeling Robin?"

"A little better. Dr. Law said that the chemotherapy is working."

"I told you he could do it!"

"We'll see." She patted his head. "I think I'm going to take a nap too."

Law awoke with a jolt. His head flipped back and forth looking at his surroundings.

Right, I took a nap after that woman convinced me that I needed one.

Law hadn't been in the napping room for months, maybe a year. He'd never had the time and had been convincing himself that he could only get the best sleep on his bed at home.

His body felt... weird. Like it was strangely loosened up and he felt heavier than normal. Maybe it was time to take those vacation days.

The Miracle Surgeon yawned as he headed back to Robin's room. He passed by many coworkers who had bewildered expressions plastered on their faces. Not that they had reason to, he was human after all.

He went back to Room 206 where Chopper greeted him with big, sparkly eyes.

"How was your nap?" He whispered.

"... Fine." Law answered in a similar volume. "Why are we-"

Chopper pointed to the bed where Robin was sound asleep. Her face was calm and her breathing was quiet and peaceful. Law motioned that Chopper could leave and he took a seat next to his sleeping patient.

She's... different. Any other cancer patient would be begging for their life to be spared. Begging me to save them. She doesn't seem to have that death grip on living that others do.

Law pondered the strange woman as he noticed her stir and her azure eyes open with a flutter.

"Have a good nap?"

Robin yawned before letting out a short laugh. "I should be asking that to you."

"It's as good as a nap as I'll get." He grunted.

"I'm glad you took my advice and actually rested."

Law couldn't help but be unnerved by her laughing at him constantly.

"Why aren't you afraid?" He demanded.

Robin hummed to herself. "Afraid of what?"

"The cancer. More specifically, dying."

"I had a near death experience when I was young, in comparison this is sunshine and rainbows."

Law's brow furrowed, he could tell that she was being extremely broad, save for the fact that it was a near death experience. He decided not to press further, not yet at least.

"If the chemo and radiation therapy work you should be able to return home in a few days. You won't have to be in this depressing hospital more than you need to be."

"That's a relief, thank you Dr. Law."

"You can just call me Law."

Robin blinked in surprise. "Well alright then. Thank you, Law."

Author's Note: Um, hi i guess. Thanks for reading so far. I'm trying to incorporate the strawhats but it's kinda hard considering this is a Modern AU and there's a massive age gap. Anyways thanks again :)
