Chapter 42: Visiting The Space Center! Steven Explains About The Asteroid!

As night fell, the girls finally arrived at Rustboro City's Pokémon Center. After having dinner, they tucked themselves in to be ready for the meeting with Steven and his father tomorrow.

-Meanwhile At The Celestial Observatory in Mossdeep City's Space Center-

On most nights, the work for the scientists at Mossdeep City's Space Center was very quiet. But tonight was gonna be very different as suddenly alarms started blaring. Then one of the junior scientists yelled out to their boss, who it turns out was Dr. Kozmo.

Junior Scientist - "Professor Kozmo! It's... It's a disaster!"

Dr. Kozmo rushed over to his junior's monitor.

Junior Scientist - "The meteoroid's trajectory-it suddenly changed direction! Now it's on a collision course with our planet!"

Dr. Kozmo was stunned at what he was hearing.

Dr. Kozmo - "What? Recheck the data! Update the course calculations and confirm the new trajectory!"

One of the Space Center's female scientists quickly did just that.

Female Scientist - "Target locked on! Confirming the meteoroid's new expected trajectory now..."

After a few moments, the new data showed up on the female scientist's monitor.

Female Scientist - "According to the numbers, it should make impact... Somewhere southwest of Sootopolis City, on a small island off of Route 131!"

But there was something that still didn't make sense to Dr. Kozmo.

Dr. Kozmo - "But changing trajectories midflight...It's almost like it's alive."

Junior Scientist - "But Professor, what should we do? What Do We Do?!"

Dr. Kozmo - "Calm yourself, man!"

Junior Scientist - "Y-y-yessir..."

Dr. Kozmo was then deep in thought.

Dr. Kozmo - "...Hmmn. So it's come to this."

-The Following Morning On Top Of Sky Pillar-

During the following morning, the scene changes to the top of Sky Pillar. There, a female grunt wearing a mix of Team Aqua and Team Magma's outfits was standing at the summit, a Whismir off to her right.

? - "...Looks like I won't be needing this..."

The grunt then removed the outfit, revealing herself to be the Zinnia, the Draconid's current Lorekeeper.

Zinnia - "Phew! That's sooo much better! Ooooh, I feel so free! That uniform got pretty stinky after a while! And all sweaty, too!"

Aster - "Zinnia!"

Zinnia then turned her attention to the Whismir to her right.

Zinnia - "Ohhh, my adorable little Aster! Are you that happy to see me looking like myself again, hmm? Ahhh, you're just too darned cute! Like always!"

Zinnia then calmed herself, focusing her attention back to the matter at hand.

Zinnia - "Phew. But there's not much time left for us. It'll only be a matter of weeks...No. Days. Things have gotten a bit tricky now, since Michael managed to stop both of the super-ancient Pokémon from being revived like it should've been. Not that it's a really big deal. I've already thought of a new plan. If I just tweak a bit with this Key Ring I stole from that green haired kid, or perhaps another Key Ring with plenty of THAT built up..."

Aster - "Zinnia..."

Aster sounded a bit scared, thinking that Zinnia's new plan was taking things a bit too far. Zinnia looked skyward.

Zinnia - "I swear I'll protect you. ...Aster."

-Meanwhile Over In Rustboro City-

Back with the girls, they woke and showered, had breakfast, then quickly made their way over to Devon Corp. They saw that Steven was out front waiting for them.

Steven - "Girls... I'm sorry for summoning you all so suddenly."

Twilight - "It's ok Steven. What you have to show us must be pretty important."

Steven - "It is. My intuitions are well known to be right after all. However, I'm sorry to say that it's not happy news that brings us together right now. Sigh. This isn't something we should discuss in public. Now follow me inside."

The girls followed Steven to the top floor of Devon Corp, where his father Stuart's office was. The girls stood together in front of Stuart's desk, while Steven was off to the side.

Stuart - "Ah, welcome, welcome. It's good to see you girls again."

Twilight - "Likewise Mr. Stone. So I'm guessing you have something to tell us as well."

Stuart - "Yes. You see, it all started 3,000 years ago..."

Clair - "This is the story of the Ultimate Weapon, isn't it?"

Stuart - "Who do you girls know about it?"

Steven then facepalmed.

Steven - "Apologies father. I had forgotten to mention to you about how Michael had explained about the Ultimate Weapon to me, Lance, Leon, and the girls back in Sootopolis City when we had also asked him about the Great Tree."

Stuart then laughed.

Stuart - "Well if the rumors about how much of a genius Michael are 100% true, then I shouldn't be mad at all about the boy telling you all the story before me. And besides, Hoenn was able to create a positive out of the conflict too."

Weiss - "How so?"

Stuart - "My grandfather, who was also the President of Devon Corp before me, came up with the idea of using the energy created by the Ultimate Weapon to instead HELP improve the lives of people and Pokémon. Thus, Devon Corp created Infinity Energy, which is considered the greatest achievement in Devon Corp's history."

Ruby - "Now that's a pretty awesome achievement to have."

Stuart - "Thank you Ruby. That means a lot to hear. In fact, the Devon Parts you girls and Michael recovered for us back then were in fact parts of a motor to help make it possible to power Captain Stern's submarine with Infinity Energy. It wasn't long before we began to expand our attempts to further human development. Currently, we're exploring space itself. The rockets that launch from Mossdeep City's Space Center using our Infinity Energy... They're the true results of our dreams, passion, and technology. Surprised to find out that they could end up as our best hope to save our world too."

Roxanne - "So what's the major problem then?"

Stuart - "Ah, yes. The real reason why I called you all here. The overwhelming catastrophe that which now approaches us. A huge asteroid, more than six miles in diameter, is currently on track to collide with our planet."

The girls blood went cold at hearing that as they quickly tried to understand their current situation.
