Story 1

Today we rejoin our heroes in the fields north of Goldenrod City.

"Are you sure it's okay for me to look around?" Casey asked.

"It's fine, Molly said they were still working on her dad so we have a few days still." Ash reassured. "So what rare Pokemon is out here?"

"A bug type and a fast one." Casey said, showing a photo of a red Pokemon with wings.

"What's it's called?" Ash asked.

Elsewhere

"They're called Yanma." James said, seeing the red Pokemon flying around the field. "They're a bug and flying type, and apparently it can flap its wings fast enough to shatter glass."

"And how is this supposed to help us take back Johto?" Butch asked.

"They're incredibly rare, and if they're rare then that means they're powerful!" James exclaimed.

"I think you and I need to redefine your definition of powerful." Butch said.

"Well what about those?" James asked.

"Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash called out.

"Bayleef use Razor Leaf!"

Pikachu and Bayleef had begun chasing after some Yanma in the distance as Ash and Casey quickly followed behind them.

"Isn't that one of your twerps?" Butch asked.

"Along with one of his new twerpettes." James said. "And that Pikachu is a powerful package."

"And I've read about the other one, a Bayleef, they're also supposed to be mighty strong physically.". Butch said.

"Great to hear." James said. "Let's get them!"

"Now that sounds like a plan." Butch said, the two sneaking off.

Back with Ash and Casey

"Beedrill use Rage!" Casey called out.

Beedrill flew ahead, striking a Yanma, knocking it back to the ground with a fair amount of damage dealt.

"Pokeball go!" Casey called out.

A Pokeball flew out, striking the Yanma, enveloping it in a red light.

"Prepare for trouble if you'll please." James said, stepping into the way of Casey and the captured Yanma.

"And make it double, I can't believe I'm using their theme." Butch said.

"It's Team Rocket, and… some weird new guy?" Casey said in confusion.

"His names Bint, and he's another member of Team Rocket." Ash said angrily.

"IT'S BUTCH AND YOU KNOW IT!" Butch argued. "Forget the motto, Primeape let's go! Use Thrash!"

"Weezing you come out too!" James called out. "Use Sludge Bomb!"

"Pikachu use Thunderpunch!"

"Beedrill you use Rage!"

Beedrill flew forward, breaking apart Weezing's Sludge Bomb before striking the poison type with its stingers, while Pikachu sent an electrifying punch up Primeape.

"Primeape use Dynamic Punch!"

"Weezing use Double Edge!"

"Beedrill use Twin Needle!"

"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"

Beedrill knocked back both of Team Rocket's Pokemon into their trainers, sending out a bolt of electricity at them, sending them all flying off.

"That was weird, what do you think they wanted?" Casey asked.

"I'm not sure. Usually I let them go through their motto and monologue before fighting them." Ash said.

"Why, that seems pointless and a waste of time." Casey said.

"Yeah, but it usually gives me a minute or two without having to think much." Ash commented.

"Well, either way I managed to catch a Yanma, so I guess it's mission accomplished." Casey said, picking up the Pokeball.

"Yeah, I'm just wondering where their partners were, usually they're on separate teams." Ash said, deep in thought.

Near Ecruteak City

"I knew we shouldn't have trusted those two to go alone, even you're more competent than they are." Cassidy complained, as she and Jessie were waiting.

"Will you give it a rest and just shut up!" Jessie argued. "We need to find a sign of that bird Giovanni was talking about."

Story 2

"So this is the national park?" Ash asked, as the duo reached a large park.

"Apparently." Casey said.

"Ash, hello again, what are you doing out here?" Bugsy asked, walking up.

"Just passing through, what are you doing out here?" Ash asked.

"There's a bug catching contest that I'm helping judge." Bugsy said.

"A bug catching contest?" Ash asked. "An entire contest just dedicated to that."

"Yeah, it's actually a pretty big event." Casey said.

"And yet you decided to catch Yanma not far from here." Ash pointed out. "So what's the goal of this contest?"

"It's pretty straight forward, anyone can try to catch a bug type with special park balls and the captures will be judged at the end. With the victor winning a prize." Bugsy said.

"It has been a bit since I've caught a bug type and I'm short a few Pokemon right now." Ash said. "How about it Casey, want to participate too?"

"I think I'm all set on bugs right now." Casey said, holding Beedrill and Yanma's Pokeballs.

"So what other rules are there for the contest?" Ash asked.

"You can only enter with one Pokemon, all the others will have to stay behind." Bugsy said. "The contest lasts for half an hour and then it will be judged."

"And do I get to keep whatever I catch?" Ash asked.

"Of course, win or lose, you get to keep what you catch." Bugsy said.

"Alright, sounds like fun. How about it Pikachu!" Ash said excitedly.

"Pi!" Pikachu cheered.

"Alright, Casey mind holding onto these in the meantime?" Ash asked, holding Gligar, Houndour, and Totodile's Pokeballs out.

"Sure why not." Casey said, taking them from Ash. "Good luck."

A bit later during the contest

"Alright, we need to find a bug type Pokemon, the only question is which one?" Ash asked.

"Freeee." A Butterfree cried out.

"Hey a Butterfree, why don't we catch one of those!" Ash said, chasing after the bug type.

Pikachu leapt after his trainer, chasing after the bug type to a pond as it landed to get a drink.

"Alright, just need one shot." Ash said, grabbing a Park Ball. "Park Ball, go!" Ash exclaimed, tossing it at the Butterfree, only for it to fly off, the Park Ball flying over the small pond, hitting a Scyther in the head, and failing to catch.

"Okay, just don't react, maybe he doesn't know it was us." Ash said calmly.

"SCYTHER!" The Scyther yelled, flying at them, slashing his scythes left and right.

"Never mind, run!" Ash said, taking off with Pikachu in his arms.

Casey watched from the stands at the video feed of Ash and Pikachu running from the Scyther.

"Man I'm glad we didn't participate." Casey sighed.

"Yan!" Yanma buzzed watching the feed as well.

Ash and Pikachu leapt over a wall, narrowly avoiding Scyther's attacks.

"Pikachu, we need to stop running, we're better than this!" Ash said.

"Pika!" Pikachu said, slapping his cheeks to generate a small amount of electricity.

"Alright, use Thunderbolt!" Ash called out.

Pikachu sent out a blind bolt of electricity as Ash leapt back over, throwing another Park Ball at the Scyther.

Scyther dodged out of the way of the electricity, being struck by the park ball, this time going inside as the ball began shaking.

'ding ding ding'

A small bit later at the end of the contest

"And first prize goes to Ash and Pikachu for their capture of a mighty Scyther." Bugsy said, walking over to Ash. "Here as a reward for your capture have this, a Sun Stone."

"Cool." Ash said, looking at the stone and park ball. "Welcome to the team Scyther."
