Virgil was back home after a pleasant visit with the family. Dad was always ecstatic to see the baby, as was his sister and it was good to see his nieces. But it was nice to be home with his two kids and wife.

"Hello?"

"My son is having a fit over a banana," Jefferson sounded exasperated.

"That sounds fun," he tapped away at the buttons of his controller.

"He wanted a banana, so I cut one up for him. But he didn't want it cut up like that. So I got him another and cut it in half, then he didn't want the butt. So I offered him the other side but apparently they're both butts," he rubbed his forehead in frustration as Virgil laughed.

"Sounds like you're having a wonderful morning. How has school been? A lot of tests coming up?"

"I think so, winter break is around the corner."

"He's probably regressing more from stress. You want to come over and have adult conversation, while he plays with my kiddo's toys?"

Jeff sighed, "I'd appreciate it."

"Alright, I'll grab you both in about 30, think you can be ready?"

"I'm ready now. Let me get the boy together," he hung up to go grab his kid.

"People don't say goodbye these days," Virgil set his phone down before going back to fighting zombies in his game.

Within twenty minutes there was a ring at the bell.

"Come on, we're going to visit Jess and Virgil," Jeff took his son's hand, pulling him out of the apartment and locking the door.

"Visiting?" Miles felt a little nervous.

"Yeah," he walked out to greet the man, "Thanks, how's it going?"

"Going well," Virgil smiled, "Hi Miles, being a fuss bucket?"

"No," he muttered, still nervous, "Are we going somewhere? Like another museum?"

"Nope," he stepped in the apartment and opened a portal.

Jeff paused, backing away some, "What is…?"

"Let's go," Virgil unceremoniously pulled them both in.

Jefferson's feet hit the floor of the man's house having a near heart attack as he searched for his child, who was still at his side.

"You're OK, buddy," the dread head pat his shoulder, "It's weird the first few times, but you get used to it."

"What the h3ll just happened!?"

"We used a portal to get to my house," he shrugged, "Let me give you the tour!"

The tour only took a few minutes in each room. His room, baby's room, Miguel's. His office, both bathrooms, kitchen and such. Was nice having a decent size family home.

"We may remodel one day. Seriously thinking about doing something with our basement," Virgil spoke nonchalantly.

"Ok, I'm going to need you to do all of that again. What about the portal?!"

"You're still on about that?" He tsked, "I told you man, we live in an odd world. But, to put it simply, this is the dimension I live in with my family."

Jefferson stared at him like he grew two heads.

"Go play, Miles, me and your pops are gonna have some adult conversation. Miguel has a sweet train set."

Miles smirked, he saw it earlier but all he needed was the ok. With that he rushed to check it out.

The men sat in the kitchen, with Jeff slowly, very slowly, coming to terms with what just happened.

"So…this is another dimension? And you can just casually go between them with a watch?"

"It's pretty nifty," Virgil nodded, "It's really Jess' but she left it when she took my baby to the doctor."

"Oh…ok," he shook his head, "Uhm…I forgot why I'm here now."

"You wanted to get out of the house, since someone was being cranky," he glanced to Miles with a smirk as the teen stuck his tongue out at him.

"I have a lot more questions for you now."

Miles quietly listened in on his dad's conversation. Jeff shook his head in disbelief at what the man told him.

"So there are just a bunch of vigilantes running around? What do the police here do?"

Virgil shrugged, "What they can. But it's a bit different here than for you. Heros are less vigilantes and more extensions of the police. I used to be one when I was younger. But I'm retired."

"What's younger? Twenty?"

"14," he corrected.

"Fourteen!? Where were your parents?!"

"Finding ways to help other bang babies."

"I…I'm sorry?"

"Bang babies, we got our powers through this convoluted gang fight, that led to the police doing something that led to a bunch of gas," he nervously tugged at his dred.

"An accident."

Miles leaned in, listening more intensely to the conversation.

Virgil shrugged, "That was an awkward conversation. But my parents understood that none of us asked for it to happen. Some of us made the best of it, some made the worst of it. And some tried to pretend it didn't even happen."

The younger man smiled, "You remind me a lot of my dad."
