Chapter 13: The Azure Concert and the Jungle Sleepover
One cold last Saturday of February 2024, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, along with Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at the Carnegie Library in East Liberty for a sensory-friendly Azure concert. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. The concert featured a violinist and percussion instruments to play with, as well as scarves to wear. We were all clapping, singing along, and dancing to the music. After a mid-day break, we then reconvened at the Moser-Carson apartment in Point Breeze for a jungle-themed slumber party. We jammed out to Kate Bush, Lizzo, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees prior to the party. There were 2 different types of invitations presented and the room was decorated with balloons. Activities included using a get-away box for a treehouse and a Critter Catch game along with Forest Salad to eat for dinner. "I am wondering when you will have a girly/spa/fashion themed slumber party," Sarah remarked. "Don't even talk about that, Sarah," James stated. "Yes, I am enjoying this slumber party out in the rainforest," Henri agreed. "Anyway, I think the themes this year are pretty cool," James remarked. "Well, I would like to have another sleepover where we do each other's hair and paint each other's nails, just like we did as teenagers," Sarah discussed. "But, we would watch age-appropriate movies," I pointed out. "The time when John Paul asked you out on a date to an R-rated movie was horrific!" "Sometimes, people are not as nice as they seem," Carly remarked. "There was a woman named Valerie who never let us have fun the way we wanted to." "That was not very cool now, was it?" Mr. Benson asked. "No, it wasn't," Spencer agreed. "It is a good thing to have fun no matter how old you are." "I am glad that I stayed for dinner this time," Alex stated. "I am not what you call a picky eater but I am trying to watch what I eat to maintain my healthy weight." "What is the update on the summer camp that you have planned for this year, Alex?" I asked. "It's not happening due to me possibly getting the instructor job," Alex told me. "It will be fun when summer finally arrives," Justin stated. "Yes, definitely," Max agreed. "The summer before our senior year was definitely one to remember with our planned activities!" Pretty soon, it was time for all of us to go to bed. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
