Andre sat at the gangs usual table in the Asphalt Cafe, repeating one thought over and over. "This cna't be real…."
"I'm right there with you, buddy." Robbie tried to comfort his friend. "But I was also right there at the audition. No way around it, she's the best drummer we've yet seen."
"So, why's Andre so bummed?" Jade asked as she and Beck made their way to the table, lunch in hand.
"DON'T….." Dre started, "say it. Just, don't."
"Okay, whats going on?" Beck wondered aloud.
"Andre and I were starting a band." Rob started.
"I was starting a band." Andre corrected. "Robbie just happens to be one of the best guitar players around, and if I wanted to play the right mix of music, I needed really talented musicians. So, I recruited Robbie, despite his utter lack of cool, cause of course I don't need that. Worse comes to worse, I just put a fast food bucket on his head, and give him some odd nickname, like GNR."
"Who's GNR?" Tori asked as she arrived.
Cat, who'd been at the table the whole time, smiled up at her friend and just said "Hii all, I've been sitting here watching Andre and Robbie trying to form a band. I was gonna join, on account of me playing the guitar, cause all Hollywood Arts students have to play an instrument. Only, Rob is the guitarist, so I wouldn't have much of a roll. Besides, more of s singer here."
"So, who's GNR?" Tori asked again.
"Guns N' Roses, which never answers the question, why the N? I mean, I get it, and or N, just, why the fudging N?" Jade asked. "But shame on you for not knowing that, Vega."
"Wait, I've heard of them, I think, but they're rock, right?" Tori asked.
"Rock, bordering on heavier stuff." Jade told her. "Older chiz, but the music, it has soul, and a meaning, and lets be honest, they were way into the cinematic when they wrote their stuff. Good music from a time just before the album died in favor of the single."
"And that's not the point." Robbie said. "The point is, we asked around, looking for the best possible musicians to fill in Dre's band, and of course, you got me for guitar, though I'd play base if Cat really wanted to play guitar..."
"Better if you went the other way." Beck told them. "The base, a hard instrument to master, but it's still mostly rhythm, unless you're doing something like 'Addicted to that Rush' where the base solo has to rock."
"Mister Big, another 80's hair band." Cat filled in. "What? I was sure Tori didn't know."
"It's okay." Tori told the petite girl. "Whats up with all the ancient music here?"
"Jade loves singing some chiz from the forties." Beck told her. "So, ancient music, kinda good to know."
"Sides, every so often, a band re-releases an old song, sometimes modernized, and it can even be a hit." Andre was now into it. "Like, way back in the early nineties, Whitney Houston did 'The Bodyguard.' You have to have seen that movie. But the love song from it, that chiz was written by Dolly Parton way back in the early seventies. Re-reliesed music making a splash."
"And that's why Andre is so bummed?"
"No, he's so bummed because…" Robbie started.
"Hi all." Trina interrupted as she approached. "Not gonna stay long, I heard Martin Tyler is single again, and I wanted him to get the full Trina experience. However, I just came by to say hi to my sister, and to let Andre here know, I reconsidered, and after getting a lot of constructive advice from my percussion instructor, I've decided to go ahead and maybe join his band. I mean, what's the worse that could happen. I understand a lot of very successful actors have their music sidelines. Even Bruce Willis had his own musical side hustle."
"Wait, Trina's the drummer?" Jade was astonished. "But she has no rhythm. How do you keep rhythm if you don't have any?"
"That's just it." Robbie said. "She has great rhythm, just as long as that's what she's focusing on. Plus, and please no one say anything, she chose drums back when she heard there was this singer, from way back, who played drums."
"Sheena E?" Jade asked.
"Phil Collins." Cat added.
"Dave Gohl?" Tori said. "See, I know some of the old timey bands."
"Foo Fighters are still making music." Andre chided his best friend.
"So what?" Beck asked. "So are the Rolling Stones."
"Didn't they retire?" Trina asked. "Oh, wait, I'm off to stalk some cute guy. Of course, once my fame kicks in, I'll have all the cute guys I can handle. So, bye."
"We asked around, and then, because we refused to believe it, we had her audition." Robbie explained. "Told her Rodger Simmons would be watching. He's cute, right?"
"Guys solid." Beck agreed. "Hay, as Rex would say, I'm secure in my manhood. I can say those things."
"So, because Trina is the best drummer in school, you gave her a shot, and she nailed it?" Tori asked, not quite believing.
"Best drummer we've yet seen." Robbie confirmed.
"But I can't have her as a part of this band." Andre said. "I just, she's so bad. How can she be that good at the drums? If I recruit her, I'd need to ride heard on her, keep her in line, and not have her harass the boys in the other bands as we fight our way up. I'm risking enough with Rob here in the band, due to his terminal lack of cool. Can I really lose that much cool?"
"Let me ask you this?" Tori pushed. "You said you needed the best musicians, because you're gonna be playing some of the hardest music in pop and rock, right? I've heard that some legendary drummers did amazing things with Rhythm, but is having the best that essential?"
"Screw that, you need her to put some sex appeal back in the band." Jade said, and immediately all eyes were on her. "I've always said no one likes her and she was untalented. I never said she was ugly. Honestly, her body type will draw a lot of eyes to your group. Not saying I like the idea, just, it'll be the best thing you can do. That, and recruit someone who can cover the guitar to fill in the base, a keyboardist, and I assume Andre here is planning on singing?"
"That's the plan." Andre said. "Just, Trina…?"

Review, who thinks Trina would make a good percussionist?
