Through the void, a streak of red. A comet, spiraling through the blackness between stars, aimed at some far-away world. A consciousness slumbering within a shell of spines and flames. An ancient monster. A god from the heavens.
You.
As you slumber in your journey between stars, your mind drifts back to where you came from. You are a great species – or so your inherited genetic memory tells you. You travel between stars, harvesting energy and information from a world over millions of years and using it to grow and birth more spawn, leaving it a barren wasteland before you finally depart. Or so it was for ages, until the last world. The world on which you were born – and the world which destroyed your Progenitor. They had no name, because you have little need for them, but the humans called them "Lavos." The Progenitor, along with all the spawn save you, was eventually destroyed by the power of time travel, harnessed by the humans from the Progenitor's own impact on the Space-Time Continuum. You, as the youngest spawn, avoided the same fate only through not being found. Although the Progenitor's premature death caused some damage to your genetic memory, you still gained a great deal of information, biological and otherwise. You know many things about the humans of your original world, especially the magic they wielded and how it differs from your own. Some specifics are damaged; there are swaths of information with no context that you will have to sort through if you want to completely recall that world.
Still, your mind drifts back to the death of your Progenitor. It is a rare thing, as far as your memory stretches... but how does it make you feel?
Curious. It is surprising that a relatively young race was able to destroy one of you, primarily using gifts harnessed by the Progenitor's presence. That inventiveness was unexpected. Perhaps it could be harnessed?
Your thoughts settled, you begin to feel the pull of gravity once more. Your arrival is imminent and, sure enough, you crash into the planet, burrowing deep into the crust and reaching out for energy and life. Unfortunately, it seems you've arrived very early into the planet's life cycle – there is practically nothing here to study. Well, that's fine, you think as you bask in the warmth of the planet's core. It will simply give you time to grow... and Dream. What do you Dream of?
"Lavos," a beast from the sky who glutted upon the world's energies, ignoring its inhabitants almost completely. {Remember your Progenitor. Associated with your personal power, methods of harnessing it, and your effect on the world.}
QM Notes: Welcome to Devourer of Worlds! This is my first foray into being a QM rather than only a player, and my first foray out of lurking on SV. This quest is driven by narrative – there won't be much dice rolling, and rather things will be determined by your choices. This is the first half of character creation: the second half will deal with some physical aspects, but they require Remnant to do some developing while you nap. If you have questions, shoot them my way.
On Discussion:
If you discuss your options, it may affect the narrative to a degree. For example, if you have a well-reasoned argument between yourselves, you're more likely to be convincing when you try to convince people. Also, discussion makes me happy, and a happy QM is always a good thing.
On Fanworks
: I welcome fan works of any kind. If you want to write an omake chapter, feel free! It doesn't matter if it's intended to be canon or not. Want to write about Blake going insane, taking control of the White Fang, and being Queen Zeal 2.0? Go for it! Omake about other members of team RWBY reacting to the way Blake acts? Sure thing! Omake about Salem and the Lavos Spawn meeting up in dreamland to have tea and talk about humans? Awesome!If I like an omake, I'll reward you. The standard reward is the ability to ask a single question which I will answer honestly, if vaguely. If it's reallygood and I reallylike it, you might end up with a Trait or a Skill related to it.
A Note to New Readers:
The following two posts will contain spoilers for the current state of the quest and your character. They are threadmarked under the Informational category, so if you're only just beginning your journey I suggest simply clicking onward through the normal threadmarks. Whenever your character sheet received an update, a note is placed with the added information, so you won't miss out on descriptions by following along.
Amendment:
Devourer of Worlds has a TVTropes page! Spoilers ahoy, obviously, but you should feel free to check it out or add to it if you feel the urge.
