Veneer went to talk with Velvet again. "Hey, Vel."
"What's the problem now?"
"It's Cobbie. He's really mad at me for the...fire."
"Well, yeah. It was your fault. You started it."
"You were the reason I did! I know you were going through 'issues' when you were younger, but that was no reason to get mad at him! He invited us over for his birthday."
She rolled her eyes. "You two were always the weird ones. He loved those creepy rubberhose cartoons, and you actually befriended him. I only came with 'cause you said I'd like him too."
"To be fair, the rubberhose cartoon phase was pretty weird...I hope he grew out of that."
"He probably didn't. I was watching him on the news, and he seems like the same dork as before. I think he's starting to turn into one of those cartoons. Notice how he never stopped moving?"
"I think that might be a nervous tick," Veneer guessed. "He did it when we were younger too."
"I can't wait to get out of here! This place is messing with my hair."
"Three days," Veneer said excitedly. "Then we can actually talk face-to-face."
She nodded. "Then Cobblestone and I can have a chat. Or should I call him Fizz, since he goes by that now?"
"That's just his stage name. It's to protect his identity, I think. Or it's just for fun. Idk."
"How's he doing, anyways? I thought he was dead."
"Me too. But he has asthma now? Probably from the fire...He has robot arms and legs, and eyes. He's back to wearing that mask again though. Probably to hide the burn scars."
"But now he's mad at you? Did he do anything else weird?"
"He lost his focus onstage when he saw me in the crowd. Oh, but he has a manager that looks a lot like Crimp. His name's Fold. I think he's a hippie. He's good at keeping Cobbie calm."
"So Cobblestone found one of them too, huh? I told you they make great managers."
"You weren't kidding."
Velvet looked at the clock. "It's getting late, and visiting hours will be closing soon. You better head home."
Veneer looked behind him. The clock read "7:20."
"Yeah, guess I should. See you in a bit? I'll try talking to Cobblestone one more time tomorrow."
"Good luck. Sounds like you'll need it."
"Thanks, Vel."
"Oh, one more thing."
"Yeah?"
"If he actually talks to you, tell him to stop calling me Val."
"Okay. See ya."
