Chapter 29: Big City Saiyan Adventure, Part 1

Twilight became night in the industrial district as Goku and Vegeta left Capsule Corp behind. A warm, humid breeze carried the scent of hot dogs and motor oil. As they strode down the street lined by office buildings and factories, the whir of street cleaning bots made the occasional pass. A hovercar rushed by as well, leaving a trail of light. Pedestrians traipsed along the sidewalks, some more eager to get home than others. Laughter entered the saiyans' ears as a young couple zoomed by on a tandem bike.

Electricity buzzed in the background as streetlamps flickered on overhead, the horizon growing dark. Goku and Vegeta walked in silence at first, more interested in their surroundings than each other. As they reached the end of the industrial district, an imposing rotund building loomed on the left—the West City Regional Aquarium. Though closed for the night, the unmistakable scent of fish and saltwater lingered in the air, accompanied by the clicking of playful dolphins emanating from within the walls.

Continuing on their journey, they entered a livelier area—a small business district, leading to the sprawling West City Regional Park. The location boasted various establishments, from banks to burger joints to radio towers, culminating in a great public library, its doors shut on the warm Sunday night.

As they approached the park's grand entrance, an ornate fountain adorned with waterfowl and koi greeted them. Vegeta paused to admire the aquatic display, his gaze fixed on the colorful fish moving gracefully beneath the surface. A wily crow took advantage of his distraction and swooped down, its sharp beak snatching a tuft of hair from Vegeta's head before soaring away with its prize. The startled prince nearly fell face-first into the fountain, but Goku reflexively caught him by the tail and saved him.

As Vegeta regained his balance, he whipped around, scowling as he watched the winged thief disappear into the night. "Damn bird!" he spat, one hand instinctively rising to blast the avian out of the sky.

Goku reached out and took Vegeta's hand, patting it in an attempt to calm him down. "It's okay, 'Geets. It's just a silly bird. I'm sure it didn't mean any harm," he said, light laughter bubbling up inside him. "At least it has good taste, Vegeta! Maybe, it mistook your hair for some prime nesting material."

Vegeta shot Goku a withering glare, his pride stinging from the ambush. "If it comes back for more, it's dead," he growled, using his free hand to reach up and feel around the back of his head.

One corner of Goku's mouth curled upward, amused by Vegeta's stubbornness. He took Vegeta by the hand, eager to show him more of the city. "Fair enough. If it comes back, I'll protect you from its feathery wrath. I promise," he declared, narrowing his eyes and peering around in mock-suspicious.

Vegeta scoffed as he followed. "The only one needing protection will be that damn bird…"

As Goku led Vegeta into the park, their surroundings transformed into a serene oasis of well-manicured gardens bursting with vibrant flowers. The air was saturated with the sweet scent of summer blossoms, a stark contrast to the industrial atmosphere they had left behind. On one side of the path stood a towering Buddhist temple, its ancient hardwood structure adorned with intricately-carved stone statues that seemed to come alive in the flickering glow of hanging paper lanterns. Vegeta's gaze lingered on the temple a moment, a flicker of interest crossing his features before he turned his attention back to Goku.

Past the sanctuary, the path opened up into a sprawling expanse of ornate floral gardens, each bloom meticulously tended to create a kaleidoscope of colors that danced in the light of the lanterns. Goku and Vegeta walked side by side, the former mindlessly holding the latter's hand. As they reached a fork in the meandering garden path, two signs caught their attention—one pointing left towards the West City Regional Zoo where the landscape rose into a dense but manicured jungle and the other indicating a slight right turn towards the West City Regional Lake and Kittycat Island. The distant roar of a lion cut through the night from the zoo's direction, adding a touch of untamed wilderness to the tranquil scene.

Goku smiled eagerly at Vegeta, his eyes sparkling with wonderment. "Which way do you want to go, Vegeta?" the taller saiyan asked, gesturing between the diverging paths. "To the zoo or the lake?"

Vegeta shrugged, his expression unreadable as he panned his gaze between the two options. Finally, he pointed randomly to the path leading to the lake. "I don't know. Let's go that way, I guess."

Goku nodded as they turned to follow the right path, keeping a light grip on two of Vegeta's fingers. Soon, they entered a wide expanse of freshly-cut grass. Palm trees lined the promenade, with hundreds of quivering lanterns hanging from ropes tied between the trees. Laughter and chatter permeated the air as couples and families milled about the area, enjoying the serenity that the park had to offer. Large birds roamed freely in the grassy areas. Turkeys and peacocks strutted about with their colorful plumage on display, fancy chickens pecked at the ground, and flamingos waded in raised fish ponds. Various species of small theropod dinosaurs with long tail feathers darted about. Even wingless ostriches ambled across the walkway, their long necks craning as they surveyed their surroundings with curiosity.

Goku chuckled at the playful antics of the animals and the squeals of the children shyly attempting to interact with them. However, the saiyans' attention was soon drawn to a giant ostrich that appeared in their path. It approached Vegeta, beady eyes fixed on the saiyan prince. Vegeta came to a sudden stop, his gaze locked with the ostrich's in a silent standoff. Goku gently released his hand and stepped back, watching the confrontation with amusement. He knew Vegeta's pride would not allow him to back down from a staring contest, even with a bird. The prince clenched his fists at his side and glared at the animal. After a long and awkward pause, Vegeta finally broke the silence, his voice rising with irritation. "What do you want?!" he demanded, peering at the ostrich as if expecting a coherent response.

Goku snorted and giggled at Vegeta's frustration, stepping forward to offer his own insight. "I think it probably wants food, Vegeta," he offered, using a hand to cover up the wide grin on his face.

Vegeta's scowl deepened at the suggestion and he crossed his arms defiantly over his chest. "Hmph! I don't have any damn food. And even if I did, I sure as hell wouldn't share it with this birdbrain!"

The ostrich did not make to charge or display any kind of aggressive body language. It simply continued to casually stare, looking Vegeta up and down as if waiting for an edible offering of some kind.

"Get out of my way!" Vegeta finally snapped.

Goku chuckled, patting the prince's back. "Let's just walk around," he proposed, earning a glare from Vegeta as he took him by the wrist and led him through the grass to bypass the ostrich.

Vegeta huffed in annoyance, mumbling something about how the Prince of all Saiyans should never have to walk over the grass for the sake of a stubborn, mindless animal. Goku gently shushed him and pointed ahead as the shimmering waters of the lake came into view around a slight bend in the path.

The tension in the air dissipated once they had left the flightless bird behind. It was replaced by a sense of calm as they continued their stroll. Goku's cheerful demeanor lightened the mood as they approached the lake. The sight of pedal boats shaped like swans and dragons on the surface brought a smile to Goku's face. "Look, Vegeta! Those boats look like so much fun," he exclaimed, pointing excitedly.

Vegeta snorted and rolled his eyes. "If by fun, you mean dumb, then yes, I totally agree."

Goku chuckled at Vegeta's cheeky remark, accustomed to his companion's dry humor. "Come on, Vegeta, don't be such a grump. It could be a nice change of pace from all our training and fighting."

As they approached the docks, Goku's eyes caught sight of a sign posted out front. Boat Rentals: 3,000 Zeni, he mentally read, reaching into his pockets to check his funds. His expression shifted momentarily as he realized that he was carrying the money Chi Chi had given him from their shared savings before the divorce, but he could not help but feel the price was a little steep for a simple pedal boat.

Trying to mask his hesitation, Goku turned to Vegeta with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hey, Vegeta, you know what would be more fun than a boat?" he said, a playful grin spreading across his face.

Vegeta raised a brow, eyeing Goku warily. "What?"

Goku's grin widened as he gestured towards the mysterious little island in the midst of the lake. "How about we have a jumping contest to see who can reach Kittycat Island first? No ki allowed, just good old-fashioned saiyan athleticism," he proposed, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Vegeta stared pointedly at Goku for a minute. "Um, okay, but why would I want to go to a place with such a ridiculous name? What even is Kittycat Island? That sounds stupid," he retorted.

"Pfftftftft…" Goku could not help but stifle a snicker when he heard Vegeta utter the word 'kittycat' with his characteristic surliness and gruff voice. He clapped his hands to his mouth, desperately trying to suppress his laughter as he glanced at Vegeta with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "S-Say that again, 'Geets," he managed to choke out between muffled giggles, his shoulders shaking.

Vegeta furrowed his brow, shooting Goku a puzzled look as if he had grown a second head. "What? Kittycat Island? It's just a stupid name," he grumbled, failing to see the humor in the situation.

Goku's attempts to contain his laughter proved futile as snorts escaped through his clenched fingers. "I know, but the way you say it... it's just too funny," he murmured pitifully, his eyes watering.

"Yeah, whatever!" Vegeta blared, shaking a fist at Goku. "Why do you want to go there anyway?"

Goku's eyes sparkled. "Because I heard there are cute little kitties to pet! It's a popular tourist attraction."

Vegeta turned his nose up at Goku. "I already have a pet. I don't need another."

"We don't have to take one home," Goku retorted. "I just thought it'd be fun to play with some animals."

"Kakarott, if it'll shut you up, I'll go. As long as we don't have to stay for long," Vegeta said, rolling his eyes in annoyance. "I bet you I can make it all the way from here without a running start."

Goku bounced from foot to foot, excited. "You're on!"

Vegeta nodded in agreement to the challenge.

"You go first," Goku said. "I wanna watch. And then you can watch me, okay?"

Again, Vegeta nodded. The prince's expression grew sober as he crouched low to the ground, his eyes narrowing as he prepared to catapult himself into the sky. With a deep breath, he planted his hands on the ground, his muscles coiled with tension as he calculated his trajectory. Goku watched with eager anticipation, his eyes fixed on Vegeta as he waited for the prince to make his move. Vegeta tensed, his gaze locked on the distant shore of the island. In one blinding motion, the prince propelled himself forward with explosive force, his powerful legs launching him into the air like a giant grasshopper. The cement beneath him cracked and splintered, unable to withstand the sheer power of his leap.

Vegeta soared over the calm waters, the wind rushing by as he closed the distance to the shoreline. With incredible agility, he reached out and grabbed hold of the fronds of a towering palm, using the tree to guide his descent to the ground. The palm tree bent low beneath his weight, its sturdy trunk groaning in protest as it leaned inward towards the interior of the island. Goku gaped in amazement as he watched the prince gracefully land in a grove of ferns, releasing his grip on the tree. The palm whipped back with a resounding snap, the opposing force causing the torn fronds to violently slap the surface of the lake. The impact sent medium-sized waves rippling across the water. Nearby tourists stopped and pointed in astonishment, their chatter filling the air as they marveled at the bizarre spectacle. Meanwhile, teenagers and children in the boats whooped and cheered in excitement when the waves came under them.

Goku's eyes dilated at the impressive display of strength and agility. "Wow, that was incredible…" he uttered. Indeed, the feat was not just athletically astounding—Goku even found it a bit titillating.

Determined to match Vegeta's exploit, Goku sprung into action. With a burst of energy, he executed a series of flips and cartwheels towards the edge of the lake. Planning for a lower trajectory than Vegeta, he launched himself across the water with a powerful spinning leap as he aimed for the sandy beach of Kittycat Island. He soared through the air, adjusting his position mid-flight for a perfect landing.

With a soft thud, Goku touched down on the sand, his landing as gentle as a feather. He straightened up and glanced around, a triumphant grin spreading across his face as he surveyed the lush landscape of Kittycat Island. Before Goku could revel in his victory, however, Vegeta emerged from the dense foliage, his eyes wide with alarm. "Kakarott, we need to get the fuck out of here. This island is infested!"

Confusion flickered across Goku's features as he turned to Vegeta, one eyebrow raised in confusion. Before he could even open his mouth to respond, a crescendo of meows began to close in on their present location. Soon, mews and caterwauls erupted from the foliage along with a swarm of domestic cats of all coat patterns, breeds, and ages. They surrounded Goku and Vegeta with curious eyes and twitching tails.

Goku's eyes widened in surprise as he took in the sight of the approaching felines. "Whoa, there are so many cats!" he exclaimed, his astonishment evident despite the unusual circumstances.

"It's those weird four-legged creatures like the old man keeps in the Atrium!" Vegeta blared, pointing.

Goku's amusement grew as he recognized Vegeta's distress at the sight of the cats. He turned to the prince with a reassuring smile. "Hey, don't worry, 'Geets. Those are just cats," he explained calmly.

Vegeta raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Cats?"

Goku nodded, his expression earnest. "Yeah, they're friendly animals that Earthlings keep as pets," he elaborated, hoping to ease Vegeta's concerns. "They're not dangerous or anything, unless you're a mouse."

Vegeta snapped a glare in Goku's direction. "I'm no mouse!"

Goku chuckled at Vegeta's defensive remark, but his amusement quickly turned to fascination as he watched the prince become increasingly overwhelmed by the cats. As the furry creatures surrounded him, rubbing against his legs and purring loudly, Goku could see the tension mounting in his posture.

Some of the kittens, emboldened by Vegeta's stationary stance, began to climb up his spandex suit, their tiny claws digging into the fabric as they attempted to reach his shoulder. "Aaaahhh! They're stabbing me with their feet!" he blared, the whites of his eyes growing stark. He remained frozen with apprehension. He dared not make a move for fear of accidentally stepping on one of the little animals.

Goku could not help but chuckle at Vegeta's dramatic reaction, though he quickly masked his amusement with genuine concern as he reached out a hand towards the prince. "Hey, Vegeta, it's okay," he said soothingly, his voice calm and reassuring despite the chaos unfolding around them. "They're just kitties and they're not trying to hurt you. They're probably just curious and want you to pet them."

Vegeta shot Goku a withering glare. "Curious or not, they're stabbing me with their feet!" he repeated, his voice edged with panic as the kittens continued their determined ascent up his spandex suit.

Goku's smile softened as he tried to ease Vegeta's fears. "I know they're a little prickly with their claws, but they won't cause any harm," he explained, his hand still outstretched in an offer of support.

Vegeta's panic began to subside slightly with Goku's reassurance, though he remained on high alert as the one or two kittens reached his shoulders and started sniffing his ears and face. Slowly, he started to relax his tense muscles, realizing that the cats were not posing any real threat. "What do they want?"

Goku's smile widened as he observed Vegeta's gradual calm, relieved to see the prince easing into the situation. However, his amusement got the best of him as he could not resist the opportunity for a lighthearted prank. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he swiftly pulled out his phone and snapped a quick picture of Vegeta covered in kittens, their tiny forms clinging to his spandex suit. With a silent giggle, Goku sent the photo to Bulma, knowing she would get a kick out of it, with no context.

Vegeta narrowed his eyes at Goku, suspicion flickering in his gaze as he noticed the saiyan's sneaky behavior. "What are you doing with your phone, Kakarott? Why don't you make yourself useful and get these prickly little twerps off of me, huh? I don't know how to move without hurting them."

Goku tried to suppress his laughter, unsuccessfully stifling a snicker as he pocketed his phone. "Oh, nothing, 'Geets," he replied with a mischievous gleam in his eyes. Before Vegeta could press him further, Goku's attention was diverted as he found himself in turn bombarded by a flurry of soft bodies. Cats of all shapes and sizes swarmed around him, their mews and purrs filling the air as they rubbed on his legs and attempted to climb up his clothes in a similar fashion to Vegeta. Goku chuckled as he found himself in a situation identical to the prince's, his own laughter blending with the symphony of feline vocalizations surrounding them. "They're drawn to people. Humans love these little guys," he remarked, grinning at Vegeta as he reached to give the cats ear scratches. "I'll help you get them off. Just be patient."

"But, Kakarott…"

Goku could not contain his laughter as he found himself surrounded by the affectionate felines, their soft fur brushing against his skin as they vied for his attention. "Aww, look at these little sweeties," he cooed, reaching down to pet them and give them scratches. "You're so cute, yes you are! Who's a baby, huh? Who's an itty-bitty? Who's a fuzzy? Who gots a li'l pink nose? Ooh, what a pretty coat pattern!"

Vegeta watched Goku's antics with impatience, his annoyance growing as a kitten tried to burrow into his thick hair. "Stop playing around, Kakarott!" he grumbled. "Get these hairballs off of me this instant!"

Goku giggled at Vegeta's demand, though he complied without hesitation. "Okay, no need to get so worked up, Vegeta," he said, still chuckling as he focused his attention on the task at hand. "I've got an idea. Let's use our ki to hover above the ground, then I can come over and help you get them off."

Vegeta raised an eyebrow at Goku's suggestion and nodded, recognizing the practicality of the plan. With a determined expression, he concentrated his energy, lifting himself gently off the ground until he hovered a few feet above the sandy shore of Kittycat Island. Goku did the same, floating over to Vegeta with a grin on his face. Once he reached Vegeta's side, Goku carefully began to peel the kittens off the prince, taking care not to startle or hurt them. With gentle precision, he lifted each kitten from Vegeta's spandex suit and deposited them back down onto the ground below, where they scampered off to join the others.

"There you go, all clear," Goku said with a satisfied smile, admiring their handiwork as the last kitten jumped down to join its furry playmates below. "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?"

Vegeta huffed in response, though there was a hint of relief in his eyes as he floated a little higher and wrapped his tail around a tree limb, allowing himself to dangle upside down as he watched the sea of felines below. Many were looking up with big shiny eyes and meowing at the saiyan prince expectantly. "I suppose not," he conceded begrudgingly, brushing himself off and adjusting his spandex suit. "At least now I can look at them without them bothering me," he uttered, eyes panning the scene beneath them.

Goku scooped up one particularly adorable cream-colored kitten, cradling it gently in his arms as he flew up to the tree limb where Vegeta was hanging upside down. With a cheerful grin, he settled himself on the branch beside the prince's wrapped tail, the kitten nestled contentedly in his lap. "Hey, Vegeta, check this out," he said, holding out the kitten for Vegeta to see. "Isn't she just the cutest little thing?"

Vegeta glanced up at Goku and the kitten, his expression softening slightly at the sight. Despite himself, he could not help but be charmed by the innocence and playfulness of the tiny creature in Goku's arms. "They are kind of interesting," he admitted begrudgingly, his gaze lingering on the kitten.

Goku beamed in response to Vegeta's reluctant acknowledgment, gently stroking the kitten's fur as he continued to shower her with gads of affection. "See, I told you they're not so bad," he said with a grin. "Sometimes, it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the little things in life, you know?"

"Oh, shit!" Vegeta blared, pointing in alarm at the trunk of the tree below as some of the more ambitious felines began climbing the bark to reach the two saiyans in the branches above. "Kakarott, let's get out of here. I don't want to have a repeat of that earlier debacle," he decreed, uncoiling his tail and flying above the canopy, well out of the animals' reach. He called down to Goku. "Let's go somewhere else!"

Goku had a hearty laugh at Vegeta's sudden alarm as the kitties started climbing the tree trunk in pursuit. With a quick kiss between the cream-colored kitten's ears, he gently returned it to the ground before following Vegeta, flying up above the canopy to safety. "Alright, Vegeta, let's go back to the mainland."

With Vegeta leading the way, they soared back across the lake, the cool breeze whipping past them as they descended to the grassy shore amidst a grove of trees. Goku took Vegeta's hand and led him back to the wide promenade that they had been on previously, noticing a gathering of curious humans gathered around the broken cement where Vegeta had launched himself onto the island from. Ignoring them, they walked past the small crowd and continued onward, heading towards the far end of the park.

As they exited the green space, they found themselves among tall stone government buildings. The air was filled with the sound of peaceful demonstrators holding signs and chanting about something. Vegeta shot a glare at the noisy crowd, clearly unimpressed by the commotion. Goku gently nudged Vegeta's arm, redirecting his attention to a bustling commercial area up ahead filled with neon lights and lighted billboards. "Hey, look over there, Vegeta," Goku said, pointing towards the lively scene. "That looks like a fun place to check out. What do you say we head that way? Ooh, I think I smell food."

Vegeta glanced at the neon lights, his expression softening as he considered Goku's suggestion. He nodded in consent to the plan and then chuckled. "Ever the shameless glutton, are we?" he teased Goku as he noticed the taller saiyan sniffing the air. "Even for a saiyan, your stomach is a bottomless pit."

Goku grinned sheepishly at Vegeta, rubbing the back of his neck with a chuckle of his own. "Heh, guilty as charged," he admitted. "But hey, food is one of the best parts of any adventure, am I right?"

Vegeta rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

Goku and Vegeta wove through the dense crowd, Goku holding onto Vegeta's tail to ensure that they would not get separated amidst the throng of people. Vegeta grunted in annoyance, but allowed Goku to guide him by his caudal appendage as they pushed through the bustling streets. As they turned a corner, they were met with a sea of humans, anthros, and various other Earthling types, all moving in different directions with purpose. The strip ahead was lined with fancy and popular restaurants, their inviting aromas mingling with the chatter of the crowd. Goku's stomach rumbled loudly. He could not help but drool at the tantalizing smells of gourmet cuisine wafting through the air. The prince noticed Goku's excitement and smirked in amusement at the other saiyan's uncommonly voracious appetite.

Their journey through the crowd continued until they reached the next block, where they stumbled upon a massive food festival. Goku's eyes widened with delight as he spotted one of his favorite dishes being celebrated: dumplings. "Nuh uh!" Goku blared in mock disbelief. "You've got to be crudding me!" He spun around to face Vegeta, his saliva glands producing a waterfall from his mouth. "Dumplings!" Goku exclaimed, tugging gently on Vegeta's tail to get the prince's attention. He bounced up and down in excitement, his enthusiasm infectious. "Come on, Vegeta! Let's go check out the Dumpling Festival!"

Vegeta raised a brow at Goku's exuberance, casting a glance toward the festival grounds. "Alright, fine, let's go. Just try not to eat everything in sight, Kakarott," he chided. He followed Goku, curious to see what culinary delights were on offer. As they entered the lively festival, Goku's eyes widened with uncontainable excitement at the vast array of dumplings on display. The festival grounds were adorned with colorful paper lanterns, illuminating the crowd, and the air was alive with the tantalizing aroma of sizzling meats and savory spices. The festival instantly drew Goku in like a moth to a flame.

"Look at all these different kinds, Vegeta!" Goku blared, his voice filled with childlike wonder.

The selection was truly impressive. There were rows upon rows of stalls offering an astonishing variety of dumplings, each more enticing than the last. There were traditional pork dumplings, steaming hot and served with a side of tangy dipping sauce. Nearby, a vendor offered ostrich dumplings, their delicate red meat encased in a golden-brown wrapper and sprinkled with fragrant herbs. Farther down the row, Goku spotted a stall selling dinosaur meat dumplings, their savory filling bursting with rich, gamey flavor.

"Not bad. The variety is huge," Vegeta remarked, a hint of interest flickering in his eyes as he surveyed the diverse offerings. "But don't get too carried away, Kakarott. We don't have all night."

Goku was already too far gone in his excitement to heed Vegeta's warning. He spotted a sign advertising free samples and dashed over to it, his mouth watering at the thought of trying every flavor. "Samples!" Goku exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with joy. "Vegeta, did you hear that? We can try them all!"

Vegeta rolled his eyes at Goku's boundless jubilance, but he relented, allowing the other saiyan to indulge in the culinary adventure. Each sample consisted of a mini dumpling, perfectly sized for a single bite. Goku wasted no time in darting from stall to stall, eagerly collecting samples of every flavor.

There were duck dumplings, their tender meat infused with aromatic spices and wrapped in a thin, delicate skin. Nearby, Goku found quail dumplings, their succulent filling bursting with savory goodness. As he made his way through the bustling crowd, Goku marveled at the sheer variety of flavors and textures on offer, his taste buds tingling with anticipation. His excitement knew no bounds as he collected two samples of each flavor available. With each new dumpling he added to his rapidly growing pile, his grin widened, his eyes shining with delectation. The vendors looked on in amazement as the big orange saiyan expertly navigated the crowded festival grounds, his enthusiasm infectious.

After what seemed like an eternity of collecting, Goku returned to Vegeta, who patiently waited leaning against a nearby stall. The prince had not moved a muscle, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched Goku's antics with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "Hey, Vegeta, look what I got!" Goku exclaimed, holding up the overflowing plate of dumplings for Vegeta to see. "I took two of each!"

Vegeta raised an eyebrow at the mountain of mini dumplings on the paper plate. He huffed and picked one up between his thumb and forefinger, examining it before popping it in his mouth. "That's not bad."

Goku chuckled. "That one was the wild horned mutton flavor!"

Vegeta quirked an eyebrow, a hint of skepticism coloring his expression. "You remember the flavor of each one?" he asked incredulously, clearly impressed but also slightly suspicious of the claim.

Goku nodded eagerly, his grin widening as he explained. "Yeah, of course! I love food, Vegeta. It's one of my favorite things in the universe!" he pointed out, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "And each one has its own unique flavor, so it's easy to remember! See, this one is ostrich, this is beaver, this is pork…"

Vegeta shook his head, bemused. "Leave it to you to turn sampling dumplings into a memorization exercise," he remarked with a short of amusement, though there was a fondness in his tone.

As they finished off the plate together, Goku identified each flavor, agog with each new tasting. With every bite, Goku's giddiness grew, his taste buds treated to a symphony of flavors from around the world. Once they had polished off every last one, Goku found himself torn between his favorites: the wild duck, the Papayan octopus, and the billy gruff goat. He began to ramble on about the unique qualities of each flavor, unable to pick just one as the clear winner. Vegeta rolled his eyes, though he could not help but grin at Goku's unbridled zeal, knowing that their big city adventure was far from over.

"Where to now?" Vegeta asked as they exited the festival grounds.

Goku peered around, looking at all the street signs. One in particular caught his eye, as it pointed to an even busier area filled with even bigger highrises. "The entertainment district! I think Baudway is somewhere in there, but they also have a ton of museums and all kinds of other fun stuff." His eyes lit up with excitement at the prospect of exploring the area that he had only seen before in passing. Leading the way, he guided Vegeta through the busy streets, each turn revealing even stranger sights than the last.

As they walked, they encountered a rotund middle-aged man wearing sunglasses despite the lateness of the hour, casually strolling with a cute winged baby dragon perched on his shoulder. A sign in his hand offered passersby the chance to take pictures with the rare creature for a small fee. Vegeta casually raised a brow at the unusual sight, while Goku grinned in delight, tempted to take a snapshot himself.

Farther down the street, they passed an exotic flower shop built like an ancient monastery, its entrance adorned with vibrant blooms of all shapes and colors. Strange and alluring scents wafted through the air, enticing them to linger. Goku could not resist stopping to admire the flowers, while Vegeta regarded them with mild interest, his saiyan senses detecting something peculiar about their aroma.

As they continued their stroll, a towering giran wearing a spiked trench coat ambled past them, casting a sidelong glance at the saiyans. Vegeta narrowed his eyes at the imposing figure, his defensive instincts kicking in as he assessed the potential threat. Goku, however, remained unfazed by the peculiar character. As the towering giran turned to face them, Vegeta instinctively lowered his stance, readying himself for a potential physical confrontation. However, instead of aggression, the giran's beady eyes sparkled with interest as he opened up his massive trench coat, revealing rows upon rows of different kinds of fungal herbs neatly organized within. Goku's curiosity rose and he leaned in to examine the merchandise with wide-eyed wonder. "Either of you fine young gentlemen interested in shrooms?" the giran asked.

Vegeta scoffed at the offer, his skepticism evident as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Do either of us look like chefs?" he retorted, his saiyan pride bristling at the implication. "No thanks, we just ate."

Goku was undeterred by Vegeta's dismissal. "Wow, these are amazing!" he proclaimed, his eyes scanning the assortment of exotic mushrooms with genuine fascination. "Do you grow all of these yourself?"

The giran nodded eagerly, a toothy grin spreading across his reptilian face. "That's right! I'm the best shroom grower and merchant in town," he boasted proudly. "I've got everything from Golden Gills to Silver Spores, guaranteed to give you a wacky trip or even enhance your senses!"

Vegeta arched a brow, still skeptical of the giran's claims. "And why should we believe you?"

The giran grinned wickedly. "Why so serious, little monkey man? For new customers, I give free samples, and I haven't seen either of you two around before. Wouldn't you like to go on a wild ride?"

Goku placed a finger on his lower lip in curiosity. "Wait, you mean these mushrooms will take us on a trip? What, are they like magic or something?" he inquired, scratching the back of his head.

The giran nodded. "Shrooms, otherwise known as magic mushrooms."

Goku's eyes widened in fascination. "Oh, really? Where would they take us?"

The giran chuckled. "Wherever you wanna go, daddio. Make a wish and count to three. You get me?"

Goku turned to Vegeta with a pleading look, his desire evident as he considered the giran's offer. "Vegeta, come on, this sounds amazing!" the taller saiyan implored, his voice brimming with exuberance. "Imagine the adventures we could have with these magic shrooms! We could go anywhere, see anything!"

Vegeta regarded Goku with a mixture of amusement and exasperation, his arms still crossed firmly over his chest. "You can't seriously be considering this, Kakarott," he replied, his tone incredulous. "We have absolutely no idea what these magic mushrooms will do to us. It's too risky!" he insisted.

Goku's expression fell slightly at Vegeta's cautious response, but his sense of adventure remained undiminished. "But Vegeta, think about it," he persisted, his eyes shining with excitement. "We're saiyans! We thrive on adventure and danger! This could be the opportunity of a lifetime!"

Vegeta sighed, knowing he would not be able to dissuade Goku once he had set his mind to something. "Fine," he relented begrudgingly, shaking his head. "But if anything goes wrong, it's on you, Kakarott."

Goku's face lit up with a wide grin. "Yes! Thanks, Vegeta! You won't regret this, I promise!" he cried, already turning back to the giran with gleeful anticipation. "So, uh, how do we do this?"

The giran grinned mischievously as he handed Goku and Vegeta each a small strip of a dried pink and purple mushroom, fitting neatly in the palms of their hands. "Here you go, fellas. Consider it a gift from Spirulan the Giran," he noted with a wink. "Now, let me tell you about the best spots in the entertainment district to get the most out of these babies." Pointing in various directions, he explained the options. "You can head down to the psychedelic light show under the theater dome down 67th Street, or check out Chilly Chonka's Ice Cream Factory up on Briefs Avenue. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you can venture into the Subterrace, accessible from any one of the heavy-duty elevators in the city. Any of those places will guarantee you a wild ride unlike anything you've ever experienced before."

Goku's eyes sparkled with delight, while Vegeta remained hesitant but intrigued. "So, what do we do with them once we get there?" Goku asked, peering down at the strip of mushroom in his palm.

The giran leaned in, his voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "Once you reach your destination, you simply put the shrooms under your tongue and let them soak for a bit," he explained. "Once they're reconstituted with saliva, just chew and swallow them down and let the magic happen. Your wacky trip should start kicking in within a few minutes. If you like it so much you want more, talk to Chip at Chilly Chonka's Ice Cream Factory and tell him you're looking for Spirulan the Giran. Then I'll find you."

Goku nodded eagerly, his saiyan spirit brimming with anticipation. "Got it! Thanks, mister!"

With that, the giran nodded and peered around suspiciously before strolling off casually into the crowd.

Vegeta glanced down at the shroom and then up at Goku. "Well, where do you want to go, Kakarott?"

Goku's eyes lit up as he considered their options. "Let's go to Chilly Chonka's Ice Cream Factory! We can grab some cones before or after we go on our trip. It'll be the perfect way to sweeten things up!"

Vegeta arched a brow, unfamiliar with the milky concept. "Ice cream?"

Goku beamed at Vegeta, realizing he had a chance to introduce his saiyan comrade to one of Earth's greatest culinary delights. "Oh, Vegeta, you're gonna love it!" he proclaimed. "Ice cream is this amazing frozen dessert made from milk, cream, and sugar. It comes in all sorts of flavors, like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. And there are even crazier ones, like cookie dough, rocky road, and bubblegum!"

Vegeta listened intently. "Uh, okay. Whatever, Kakarott. Let's go."

Goku led Vegeta to Chilly Chonka's Ice Cream Factory. The garish building stood multiple stories high, painted in bright colors with childish designs inspired by sweets of all kinds. Two giant sculptures of ice cream cones flanked the grand entrance on each side. Energetic carnival music drifted from the interior, adding to the whimsical atmosphere. As they approached, Goku's eyes widened as he panned the lively scene. A short line of people waited outside the entrance, their anticipation evident. Drawing closer, Goku spotted a sign proclaiming that tickets were 4,000 zeni apiece, but they included all the ice cream one could eat. His eyes turned to stars, convinced that the price was more than worth the offer.

"All-you-can-eat ice cream for just 4,000 zeni! Isn't that amazing?" Goku blared excitedly.

Vegeta snorted. "Well, I don't have any Earth currency on me and I don't feel like breaking in either. Maybe, we should go to the other place?" he suggested, intent on turning away and heading back.

Goku's aspiration remained undiminished as he tugged on Vegeta's tail and flashed a handful of bills before his eyes. "No worries, Vegeta! I've got it covered," he declared with a grin, waving the money in front of the prince's face. "I'll pay for both of us. Come on, let's go try some ice cream!"

Vegeta eyed the bills warily, reluctance in his visage. He turned away from Goku. "I don't like owing people," he muttered, though the idea of trying this mysterious dessert intrigued him. Suddenly, he turned back, reconsidering. "On the other hand, I think I have a way that we can make it even. Do you remember when I told you about the time that I confiscated Yajirobe's sword because he stole my dinner?"

Goku's grin faltered momentarily as Vegeta mentioned not wanting to owe him a debt, ready to brush it off with his typical easygoing nature. However, his curiosity was piqued when Vegeta brought up the story involving Yajirobe and a stolen dinner, which he recalled hearing mention of right after their fishing trip. "Wait, what happened with Yajirobe and your dinner?" Goku asked, his interest fully captured.

Vegeta smirked at Goku's eagerness to hear the tale. "Ah, well, that incident," he began, a hint of annoyance creeping into his voice as he recalled the memory. "I was in the forest just outside West City a few months back, attempting to recreate an ancient saiyan recipe using substituted Earth ingredients. I left it cooking for many hours, infusing it with all the essence of a true saiyan feast. But when I returned, the entire pot was licked clean and I found that fat fool Yajirobe passed out in satisfied bliss not far away."

Goku's eyes widened in disbelief as he processed Vegeta's story. "What? No way! Yajirobe ate your entire dinner?" he exclaimed, incredulous. "I assumed before that he could have only eaten part of it!"

Vegeta shook his head. "The man has a saiyan-sized appetite without the metabolism to match. Anyway, as punishment, I kicked him around a bit and took his sword. He begged for it back, but I could not be swayed. However, that's beside the point. I had gone to so much trouble to recreate that recipe and never even got to taste it to see if it turned out well. I can only assume it did given its treatment from the fatso. If you'd like, I suppose I could try again some day soon and make a batch for you. You know, to repay you for covering tonight's excursion. It sounds intriguing and I'd rather not miss out. Deal?"

Goku scratched his head, a mixture of surprise and amusement crossing his features as he listened to Vegeta's story. "Wow, Vegeta, I'm kinda surprised you didn't just kill Yajirobe right then and there," he remarked with a chuckle. "But hey, good on you for showing some restraint. I'm proud of you!"

Vegeta grunted, a faint hint of satisfaction coloring his expression at Goku's praise. "Well, for a moment, I was so hungry I considered cutting his stomach open, but then I realized the food would've tasted like vomit, so I didn't bother. I just ran off and took down the biggest dinosaur I could find and ate it raw."

Goku shuddered. "Yeah, that woulda tasted yucky. Ewww! But good on you for showing a little restraint," he said, his eyes widening with excitement the moment his brain caught up with him and he processed Vegeta's earlier offer. "W-Wait, really? You wanna make me dinner, Vegeta?" he asked excitedly. "That sounds amazing! But let's not consider it a repaid debt. I would've bought you a ticket for free, Vegeta, even if you didn't offer to make me an ancient saiyan recipe in return. Okay?"

Vegeta nodded, a rare smile gracing his features. "Sure, whatever. I'll show you how to prepare it, too."

Goku started bouncing on his feet. "That's awesome, Vegeta!" he wailed. "And hey, if you need any help gathering ingredients or anything, just let me know. I'm more than happy to pitch in!"

Vegeta nodded appreciatively. "Yes, that'll reduce the preparation time for sure. Although… it takes almost eight hours to cook, so either we would have to make a camping trip out of it or we would have to lug all the gathered ingredients back to Capsule Corp. I guess it doesn't matter either way."

Goku became ecstatic at the prospect of making a camping trip out of preparing the ancient saiyan recipe. "A camping trip sounds awesome, Vegeta! We can make an adventure out of it!" he exclaimed, pumping his fists up and down with elation. "We'll gather all the ingredients, set up camp in the wilderness, and cook up a storm under the stars. It'll be like one of our training trips, but with delicious food!"

Vegeta nodded. "Uh, sure. I think some time in the autumn would be our best bet since we won't have to worry as much about the summer heat. Speaking of which… do you want to do it before or after we summon the dragon? Because, well, I'm thinking that if we wait until after we summon the dragon, then we can also use this camping trip to do that special, ahem, thing you wanted to try," he proposed with a subtle waggle of his dark eyebrows. "That way, we'd have privacy. No way are we doing it on Capsule Corp property! It makes too much noise and there are too many snoops and security cameras."

Goku's face instantly heated up as he caught onto Vegeta's hint. He started inadvertently fanning himself with the zeni bills in his hand. "Uhh… err… I… uh…" His cheeks flushed crimson and his heart sped up a few beats as he processed the ruttish proposition. "Uh, well, uh... I-I guess after summoning the dragon would be g-great," he stammered, his voice shaky as he attempted to regain his composure. "Privacy s-sounds good, and, um, yeah, I totally agree that Capsule Corp might not be the best place for, um, that."

Vegeta smirked, clearly enjoying Goku's flustered state. "Excellent. It's settled then," he said with a nod, his tone highly amused. "But for now, let's focus on investigating this factory thing, shall we?"

Goku nodded, grateful for the change of subject. "Yeah, ice cream might help cool things down!" he replied ecstatically. As they reached the entrance to Chilly Chonka's, Goku's excitement bubbled up once more, eager to indulge in the sweet treats inside. "Let's join the line. I can't wait to try all those flavors!"

Vegeta grunted in response, following Goku to end of the queue as his mind drifted to the mysterious culinary experience that awaited them. Meanwhile, Goku bounced with excitement, eager to indulge in the tasty adventure and already looking forward to their future camping expedition. As they neared the entrance, they were greeted by an alcove with two ticket dispensing windows on each side. The line of avid patrons divided into two streams as people shuffled forward to purchase their tickets.

Goku stepped up to one of the windows, a wide grin plastered across his face. "Two tickets, please!"

The male attendant behind the counter, wearing an ice cream swirl-themed hat, smiled warmly at Goku's childlike enthusiasm as he punched a few buttons on the vintage ticketing machine. "That'll be 8,000 zeni total," he announced cheerfully, holding up two silver tickets adorned with whimsical ice cream designs. Goku eagerly counted out the bills and handed them to the attendant, who exchanged them for the tickets. "Here you go. Enjoy your visit to Chilly Chonka's!" the man declared, waving them through.

Goku beamed at Vegeta, holding up the tickets. "Got 'em, Vegeta! Aren't they pretty? Let's go inside!"

Vegeta nodded, his expression unreadable but with a hint of curiosity gleaming in his eyes. "Lead the way, Kakarott," he acquiesced, following Goku as they made their way through the entrance.

Goku presented the tickets to the attendant at the door, who took them and stamped the back of the saiyans' hands with Chilly Chonka's logo in non-toxic silver ink. "Enjoy your visit, gents!"

As they entered the main lobby, they were enveloped in a world of strawberry pink walls adorned with fanciful designs of cherries and rainbow sprinkles. The tantalizing scent of freshly-made ice cream was pervasive. Laughter and squeals of excitement echoed in the chamber as colorful lights danced across the walls. At the doughnut-shaped front desk, a friendly lady attendant welcomed them. Goku stepped forward and took a brochure from the pile, stepping out of the way to give other patrons room.

"Come on, Vegeta. Look at this!" Goku said excitedly. With the prince at his side, he unfolded the pamphlet, his eyes lighting up with excitement as he scanned the contents. "Wow, check it out! There's a map of the main exhibit!" he exclaimed, pointing to the colorful illustration of the factory's layout. As Goku scanned the text, he noticed a section outlining guidelines. Clearing his throat, he began to read aloud, making sure Vegeta heard every word. "It says here that for hygiene purposes, not everything in the main exhibit is actually edible. They use inedible materials to mimic the look and feel of chocolate, marshmallow, ice cream, and so on," he explained, his brow furrowing as he absorbed the information.

Vegeta nodded attentively. "So, in other words, Kakarott, try not to eat everything in sight."

Goku laughed. "Yeah, but not to worry! The brochure says that there are plenty of edibles dispensed throughout the exhibit, seamlessly integrated into the landscape. We won't go hungry, that's for sure!" With shared excitement, Goku and Vegeta set off to explore the wonders of Chilly Chonka's. They followed signs that led to the main exhibit and arrived at a tall candy-decorated double door, beyond which lay a room that seemed straight out of a dream. Upon entering, they found themselves in a fantastical space with candy-colored pastel walls, gumdrop seats, and a flowing river of milk winding its way through the room. Goku's eyes sparkled as he took in the whimsical surroundings. "Wow, Vegeta, look at this place! It's like we've stepped into a candy wonderland!" As Goku marveled at their surroundings, he glanced down at the pamphlet once more, eager to learn more about the exhibit. "Hey, check it out," he said, pointing to a particular section of text. "It says here that the milk isn't real, it's just colored water to give the illusion of milk. Otherwise, it would go sour. Pretty neat trick, huh?"

Vegeta shrugged, his gaze sweeping across the room as he took in the details. "Whatever works."

Suddenly, Goku's attention was drawn upward as he heard a faint rumbling sound. He looked up just in time to see a banana-shaped canoe gliding gracefully toward them along the dairy river. "Hey, 'Geets, look!" he exclaimed, pointing excitedly at the approaching boat. "I think that's our ride!"

Vegeta blinked in surprise, then turned to Goku with a raised eyebrow. "We're supposed to get on that?"

Goku nodded eagerly. "Yep! Come on, Vegeta, let's hop on board!"

Vegeta stepped forward to board the boat, but suddenly Goku grabbed his tail, stopping him.

"Oh, wait. We almost forgot," Goku declared, pulling his shriveled magic mushroom out of the pocket of his orange gi and holding it in his hand. "I think maybe we're supposed to take these now?"

Vegeta turned around and raised a brow, his eyes widening in recollection. "Good thinking, Kakarott," he uttered, pulling Goku aside as another group came through. "Over here," he beckoned, gesturing to two nearby gumdrop seats out of the main path. The prince sat down first and pulled out his own shroom as well, examining it. "I think, maybe, since these are magic, we should agree on a destination so we won't end up in separate places, don't you think?" he proposed, examining the shroom in his palm.

Goku sat, nodding in agreement. "Good point, Vegeta. So, uh, where do you want to go?"

Vegeta glanced down at the shroom in his palm, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "I wonder if this thing can do time travel. Think about it, Kakarott," he mused aloud, turning the dried mushroom over in his hand. "Imagine being able to visit Planet Vegeta during its glory days, before Frieza's tyranny…"

Goku's eyes widened. "Whoa, Vegeta, that would be amazing!" he exclaimed, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "To see our home planet in its prime... That's something I'd definitely want to experience!"

Vegeta bobbed his head in affirmation. "Indeed. It would be interesting to witness the greatness of the saiyan empire firsthand," he said, a hint of nostalgia coloring his tone, "before all the shit hit the fan."

As they contemplated the possibility of time travel, Goku's mind began to wander to other potential destinations. "Hey, what if these shrooms could take us to a place that only exists in our imagination?" he suggested, a spark of fantastical whimsy in his eyes. "Like that food planet I sometimes dream about! Can you imagine, Vegeta? A world made entirely of delicious food! That would be something, huh?!"

Vegeta's eyes widened. "Oh, yes. That's a dream I've had before, too. I wonder if maybe it actually exists and when we dream about it, we're just prophesying. Maybe, this shroom could help us find out?"

"Yeah, let's do it, 'Geets! We should probably think of a place that we know exists in the present day, just in case the mushroom's magic isn't powerful enough for time travel or fantasy destinations."

Vegeta nodded in agreement, a thoughtful expression on his face. "That's a good point. Perhaps, we could use it to find out the present whereabouts of the Cold family in space," he considered.

"That's a great idea, Vegeta!" Goku exclaimed, impressed by the smart suggestion. "If we can find where they are, we can help King Kai discover what they're up to and if they're actually a threat."

With a shared sense of purpose, Goku and Vegeta compiled a mental wishlist for potential destinations, considering their options carefully. "I think we should agree to a first choice, a second choice, and a third choice," Vegeta proposed, his brow furrowed in concentration. "That way, regardless of how powerful the shrooms are, we'll both end up in the same place. I'm torn between the food planet and Old Vegeta," he admitted, indecision in his voice. "What about you, Kakarott? You be the tie breaker."

Goku's face lit up. "Honestly, Vegeta, I want to visit the food planet more than anything," he admitted. "I've always dreamed of exploring a world made entirely out of tasty edible things!"

Vegeta bobbed his head, his expression firm. "I concur. The food planet it is. And if that proves to be beyond the shroom's capabilities, we can settle for Old Vegeta, followed by the Colds' location."

Goku grinned, feeling a rush of excitement coursing through him at the prospect of their upcoming adventure. "Sounds like a plan, Vegeta!" he determined, eagerly holding out the shroom.

Just as Goku was about to pop it into his mouth, Vegeta's hand shot out to grab his wrist, stopping him in his tracks. "Hold on, Kakarott," he spoke, his voice and face serious. "I think, as a precaution, maybe just one of us should take the shroom first and the other merely observe. In case it doesn't work or causes a bad reaction, it would be good if the other is still… present, so to speak. What do you think?"

Goku's face turned thoughtful, recognizing the prudence in Vegeta's words. "Yeah, that would be wise," he acknowledged. "It's better to be cautious, just in case. But then, who should take it first?"

Vegeta hesitated for a moment, his brow furrowing in contemplation. After a brief pause, he sighed and straightened his posture. "I suppose I'll be the guinea pig," he volunteered reluctantly. "If it starts to work, I'll call for you to join. However, if I have a bad reaction, take me back to Capsule Corp for help."

Goku nodded, his admiration for Vegeta's courage evident in his eyes. "Thanks, Vegeta. That's really brave of you," he said sincerely, offering a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I'll be right behind you."

As another banana boat arrived on the milky river, Goku and Vegeta boarded, taking their seats. Vegeta faced forward, but Goku sat facing back so that he could keep his eyes on the prince. The smaller saiyan discreetly popped the pink-purple shroom into his mouth and hid it under his tongue, his gaze meeting Goku's as he did so. Goku watched him intently, a mixture of fascination and apprehension swirling within him. Gradually, the canoe began to move with the current, heading for a dark tunnel ahead.
