Omake: The Ballad of the Reaper

The bar was packed, but it was so quiet that everyone could hear the quiet squeak of her stool as a woman with a guitar took her seat on stage. As she paused to adjust the microphone downward members of the audience held up lights by ones and twos. Lit lighters, candles, glow sticks and more, people held them aloft like a field of stars in the dim room.

The woman with the guitar smiled for a moment before her fingers sketched a slow melody and she began to sing.

When all is lost
When death comes calling
When red eyes light the dark
When there's no more stalling

When fear is here
And it has long teeth
When too many have died
Take your sword from its sheath
and-

The audience broke their hushed silence to shout.

"CALL THE REAPER!"

The woman with the guitar grinned as her fingers sped up and power chords thrummed. Each time the audience shouted she sung a reply.

"When you call the Reaper!"
they say you see a flash of red

"When you call the Reaper!"
an unseen blade leaves Grimm dead

"When you call the Reaper!"
they say you find not death but life

"When you call the Reaper!"
it matters not at all your strife

"When you call the Reaper!"
red rose petals left behind

"When you call the Reaper!"
her silver blade sharp and her silver eyes kind

"When you call the Reaper!"
She! Will! Answer!

Fingers danced and redoubled their tempo for everyone to go through the litany again.
