One month passed. One night when Moonlight was sleeping, she was stung by a hornet. Kala and Kerchak awoke immediately to their daughter's screaming wails.
"Oh no," Kala crooned, "It's okay baby."
"Kala," Kerchak said gently, "It's not okay. She was stung by a hornet."
He gently removed the hornet stinger.
"I think we have to move nesting grounds," he said.
He motioned above him to a hornet nest high about the trees.
"It's too risky," he explained.
"Stay with her," Kala said, "I'm going to get the eucalyptus leaves."
"We'll go together," Kerchak replied, "You're not going to the trees by yourself in the dark."
He scooped Moonlight into his arms, and they walked to the tree. As Kala gently applied the leaves to the angry-looking mark, Moonlight's crying subsided and she fell back asleep.
When they got back to the nesting grounds Kerchak beat on his chest. The family rushed out.
"It is time to move our nesting ground," Kerchak told them.
"Now?" Carra asked, "Isn't it a bit dark?"
"Moonlight got stung by a hornet," Kerchak explained.
Terk came over and licked the spot where Moonlight had been stung.
In her sleep, Moonlight smiled.
"There's a nesting ground by the eucalyptus trees," Kala told Kerchak, "I saw it when we-"
"I saw it too," Kerchak reminded her laughing.
It was an hour-long walk. The children were carried on their mother's backs. Moonlight was sound asleep in her mother's arms.
"We're here," Kerchak said finally.
They broke up into groups and chose nests.
Kala spotted the perfect nest. She claimed it for Moonlight, herself, and Kerchak.
"Hey," Kia teased, "I like that nest."
"I have a one-month-old," Kala pointed out.
"I know," Kia said laughing.
She went to take another nest.
Suddenly Kerchak heard the roar of Sabor. He ran out.
"GO AWAY," he roared to Sabor.
"That's no way to greet me," Sabor replied, "I bring you congratulations. I heard you had a new ape. What is her name?"
"Her name is none of your business," Kerchak replied, "I won't let you near any of my family. What makes you think I'd allow you near my baby."
