Chapter 8: Losing Control

Link or rather The Flash is fighting a geokinestic meta-human, Flash was having a hard time defeating him since he needs the ground to run but the meta-human calling himself "Seismic". Pieces of earth and stone erected from underground and hit Flash every turn or step he takes, His flash suit was now badly damaged. People are now worried that their hero is being beaten like a dead carcass. Flash was now on the ground breathless and beaten, barely conscious.

"Come on Flash! Is that all you GOT!" He taunted and kicked Flash sending him flaying like a rag doll. "Get up! GET UP!" He stomped on the ground erecting another Stone that hit Flash in the gut sending him flying vertically. "Is this what the first meta-human is capable of!? GET UP!" He erected more rocks that held Flash up as if he was an offering to the gods, a rock wrapped around both of his hand and both of his legs raising him up even higher. Seismic erected a stepping stone for himself so that he was now at eye level with Flash. "Any last words Flash?" Seismic said holding a sharp rock pointed at Flash's neck. "I gotta say you really disappoint me Flash.. But do know this.. After I kill you, I'm gonna rip off your re-breather, find out who you are and kill your loved ones! HAHAHAHA! And guess what!? hehehe! I'm gonna make them suffer and kill them slowly! hehehe! I will enjoy the every. Second of it!"

Flash's eyes suddenly opened, which was now glowing orange his body began to vibrate and orange electricity surrounding it. He freed his right hand from the rock holding it by destroying it by vibrating his hand. He grabbed a piece of broken rock the size of his hand. "[Distorted Vibrating Voice] You love rocks so much? Here, have some. [Distorted Vibrating Voice]" He smashed the rock on Seismic's Face ripping half of his jaw open. Seismic couldn't process what had happened yet due to how fast it was, but then he slowly felt the pain of losing half a jaw. He stumbled back holding the place where half of his jaw used to be, he tried to crawl away not letting Flash out of his sight. What he witnessed next was truly terrifying, now squirming and crying Seismic tried his hardest to get away from what he is not calling a speed demon. Flash Vibrated his other hands and legs and was not free from Seismic's makeshift rock prison. With a blink of an eye Flash was now in front of him grabbing him by the leg and slowly dragging him on to the main highway. "[Distorted Vibrating Voice] Now.. Let's go for a run. [Distorted Vibrating Voice]" Link now running at Mach 10 dragged Seismics body on the asphalt ripping off his skin. He tried to reduce the damage by encasing his body in rock and soil but, but flash just sped up even more not allowing Seismic to recover.

"LINK STOP IT! YOU'RE GONNA KILL HIM!" Rusl shouted at him from his watch but Link wouldn't listen and continued to run. "Link! LINK! THIS IS NOT WHO YOU WANT TO BE! What would you're parents say when they see you like this!?" Link stopped and threw Seismic's almost limbless and lifeless body. Flash ran to his special place and created a breach to the speed force and went inside. Seismic was still breathing but his whole right arm was no longer attached to his body, his left arm was also gone but only up to the elbow, his right leg which Link was holding was still intact, however his left leg was gone as well. 80 percent of his skin was pretty much non existent at this point, is entire back was burned due to friction. Paramedics arrived sedated him and put him in an ambulance. The medics asked one another to not believing what they had just witnessed and questions of how and why was he still alive. The people who had witnessed the whole thing was scared of what The Flash could do, of what he was capable or, of how terrifying he could be. Upon seeing what The Flash has done, the people were divided on The Flash, is he really a hero or a villain? A savior or a monster?

-Meanwhile in the speed force.

"Link, What happened back there!? What was that!?" Rusl asked him shaking him. "You almost killed a guy!" Link was still processing everything upon regaining his control back, still bloodied and bruised Link sat down on the ground leaning his arms on his knees. With his suit torn and damaged beyond repair he decided to rip it all off, removing his smashed up goggles, ripped gloves, damaged re-breather and what was left of his pants, he was only in his boxers now. "Come here kid." Link was unmoving just sitting there with his eyes wide open tears falling from his left eye. So Rusl moved close to him and sighed. "Kid this was your second time fighting a meta-human and you placed a man in a state far worst than death? I've heard what he said.. About what he was gonna do after he kills you.. It wasn't right.. But I wouldn't let him kill you or your family and friends." Rusl spoke up what was on his mind but Link was still unmoving. The Speed Force appeared in the form of his Grandfather and placed it's index finger on forehead.

"What do you think you are doing?" Rusl said.

"[Multiple Voices] Taking away his pain. [Multiple Voices]" The Speed Force implied that it could take away Link's memories of what happened today, Rusl knew what exactly it was doing, but stopped it from doing so.

"You can't just take away part of his memory!" Rusl said.

"[Multiple Voices] One of my champions is in pain. I'm going to relieve him of his suffering. [Multiple Voices]" The Speed Force said.

"How is he suppose to learn and become a better champion if you just take away core part of his memory!?" Rusl snapped at The Speed Force.

"[Multiple Voices] Fair enough. [Multiple Voices]" The Speed Force then disappeared into nothing leaving Rusl to help his apprentice. He noticed Link needed more time to himself to process everything, he waited until he was ready to talk, it took a couple of hours but then suddenly Link spoked.

"I didn't regret anything Rusl.. He deserved to be on that state." Link said with no emotion.

"I guess you must feel pretty good about yourself then?"

"You didn't see what I saw Rusl!" Link replied his voice now full of anger. "You didn't see what he did to that innocent family who was just minding there own business! You didn't see the look on that child's face when she was impaled by rocks! I TOLD HER IT WAS OKAY! BUT I COULDN'T SAVE HER!" Link was now screaming. "For all I care he deserved more than that! For what he placed that family in to!" It was Rusl's turn to stay silent, he didn't hadn't knew what really happened. He was only there when the fight almost ended.

"Link, I-i-I'm sorry I didn't know.."

"Damn right you didn't!" Link replied.

"But still.. You shouldn't have done what you did.. After all he was still human."

"He's not a human he's monster, a psycho who enjoys killing, a monster who's only good for one thing! A monster who deserves to be put under!"

"So it's just gonna be like that!?.. You're just gonna go around deciding people's fates just because you can!? You're not a god Link! You were chosen by The Speed Force to be it's champion! To do the right thing!.. WE! DO NOT! KILL! There are consequences to everything Link.. and the sooner you realize that, the better." Rusl finished.

"You don't get it Rusl!"

"No! YOU DON'T GET IT!"

"Ugghh!" Link screamed in frustration and created a breach and exited the speed force. He was running around the city but everywhere he stopped people are afraid of him. Some putting their children behind them, some ran away or backed away slowly. He just continued running and running until he accidentally opened a breach similar to the speed force but it was covered in red electricity instead of orange. It was calling for him tempting him to go inside and lose control it was tempting him to unleash his rage and kill every meta-human he encounters. He was slowly giving in but the the speed force appeared to stop him from going inside the red speed force breach.

"[Multiple Voices] Link, there are still a lot of things that you should learn about the speed force.. Follow me. [Multiple Voice]" The Speed Force asked Link to follow it. It opened a breach to a new world where everything was desolated and in ruins. "[Multiple Voice] Wherever there's positive, there will always be negative.. It is the same case as the speed force.. In this case I'm the positive speed force.. and the one that called you was The Negative Speed Force.. [Multiple Voice]" The Speed Force gestured for Link to follow it. "[Multiple Voice] The positive and the negative speed force had always been at war with one another.. And in some of the worlds across the multiverse the positive lost.. Such as this one. [Multiple Voice]" The Speed Force showed him what happens to a world where the negative speed force snuffed out the positive speed force. This world was dead, it has red skies instead of blue, people are suffering and death could be seen all over the place.

"There's also a negative speed force? Does it also have champions?" Link asked and The Speed Force answered with a nod. "So, what is the difference between the speed force the champions of the negative and positive speed force.?" Link asked again.

"[Multiple Voice] Not much of a difference between the both of you except for a few abilities and instead of orange lightning streak they have red.. It wasn't always like this.. Until a scientist from earth- prime tried creating his own speed force.. A negative version which other speedsters referred to as the negative speed force.. The scientist unleashed the negative speed force across the time stream and the multiverse.. It became sentient and became my opposite.. Hence me being in the war with it since the dawn of time. [Multiple Voice]" The Speed force finished.

"So it wasn't really created in the dawn of time but instead it was created in the future. It just happened that it was released all over time itself hence it being there ever since the beginning of everything along with you.. Man time travel is a complicated thing is it?" The Speed Force then gestured for Link to follow it. It opened a breach to the speed force. Link was hesitant at first but entered anyway when he realized Rusl wasn't there.

'"[Multiple Voices] It was wrong of me to try to take your memory of what had happened. Rusl only wanted you to learn about the consequences of one's actions. It was not my place to interfere with how he teaches his apprentice. [Multiple Voices]"

"You don't have to explain yourself to me. I am more than capable of dealing with this myself. In fact, if it makes you feel any better. I don't really guilty of what I did.. I did what I did because he deserved it.. He was a psychopath!" Link justified his actions knowing Rusl wouldn't approve of what he did.

"[Multiple Voices] I for one will not judge you for that.. But in human's nature, it is morally wrong for you to kill a fellow human, just because he was mentally unwell. [Multiple Voices]"

"Great! Now you sound like Rusl!"

"[Multiple Voices] Rusl only wanted what's best for you. [Multiple Voices]"

"Nobody gets me here!" Link snapped.

"No I totally get you kid." Out of nowhere Rusl began speaking startling Link in the process. "I know you don't want to see me but.. Know that I get why you did what you did.. Trust me I've been there, and you don't have any idea how much I wanted to just go to the edge and kill every enemy I have.. But we must be better than them.. I know you don't get it now but you will soon. Swooping down to their level makes us no better than them.. Here I made you this." He tossed ring to Link, it looked like an iron ring but somehow it felt different. It was as if it was vibrating and it also glowed blue. Rusl explained what the ring is maid out of and it was made out of calcified speed force energy that he forged into a ring. It also has a tiny compartment behind a lightning bolt symbol that if Link presses releases a super suit similar to his own but is made of speed force energy so he won't have to worry about damages when he's fighting. "I haven't figured out how to put the running shoes in there but this should do for now." Rusl gave Link a running shoe similar to what he has but it has a lightning bolt on it's sides. "I've been working on this for a while and thought when the right time comes I should give it to you.. Given that you'd probably find a new mentor.. It felt right to give this to you as a parting gift." Rusl finished.

Link couldn't say anything. Before he could thank Rusl, Rusl already left the speed force and went back to his earth. Link was at a lost of words staring at The Speed Force looking for answers on how to fix what was broken.

"[Multiple Voices] I think what Rusl was trying to say is that he needs time to process what he was feeling.. Listen Link.. There's someone I would like you to meet. Wait here. [Multiple Voices]" The Speed Force disappeared for a second but then came back right away.

"Who is this character you would like me to meet? By the way I don't know if you noticed but I'm still on my boxers, so I really need to change."

"[Multiple Voices] Nonsense! Wear what Rusl gave you. [Multiple Voices]"

"Oh yeah! Totally slipped my mind!" Link pressed the lightning symbol on his ring and out popped his new Flash suit. He quickly changed into it but felt like he didn't really deserve it, It was as if it didn't fit. "I doesn't feel right on me."

"[Multiple Voices] Well, Rusl made it for you. [Multiple Voices]" And as if on cue the person The Speed Force wanted Link to meet got there.

He was a head taller than Link but was wearing a red suit similar to Link. "Hi! I'm Link Morgan!" The strange man said then taking back his hood and taking off his re breather to a much older Link that looks to be in his twenties.

"Okay? Hello I am also Link Morgan.. Are you me from the future?" Link asked his older self.

"Ah no, I'm from earth-316, The Speed Force told me to meet you here." Link of earth-316 replied.

"So you're my doppelganger." Link said.

"Yes that would be the right term." His doppelganger replied.

"So you're also The Flash huh? Another speedster Link in the multiverse, this must be a default." Link earth-62 said

"I hear that! Although I'm not The Flash, Hero name's Hot Pursuit! Not to confuse with the Hot Pursuit on a cosmic motorcycle, But you haven't met him yet so I don't see the point in telling you that." Link earth-316 said.

'Bit of a blabber mouth is he? Well that's a contrast.' Link thought to himself trying not to speak his mind really hard. "So why did The Speed Force want you to meet me? And I'm pretty sure it ain't to exchange pleasantries." Link said with sarcasm in his voice.

"No, it told me you almost killed a meta? Well actually it told me you placed him into a fate far worst than death. I didn't think I'd see the day where a doppelganger of mine is capable of such acts.. Kid you're worst than me. I killed my Seismic a long time ago, my earth and yours are more in common than you think.. What happened to us are the same with a slightly few differences. Look kid once you killed you'll get a taste for it.. I suggest you drop this "My way or no way" act and get your head outta your ass." Link earth-316 said.

"Great! Another one of this lecture to convince me what I did was wrong!"

"What you did was wrong! Seismic has a family you'll find out soon enough he has a little daughter who doesn't really know that her dad was a total psycho.. And once you see that look on her face when she realizes her father is a arm less, one legged brain dead vegetable? It will eat you up on the inside! And you're gonna feel like a kid all over again! You know the feelings you felt when you lost your parents? Yeah that." Link earth-316 said, but Link earth-62 refused to believe so Link earth-316 pulled him to face him and placed a finger on his forehead. "Still not convinced? How about a preview!" Link earth-316 vibrated his hand and charged a jolt of electricity and released it on Link earth-62's forehead causing him to feel a shock and sees Link earth-316's memories. "Didn't know speedsters could share memories now do you!? Take it aaaalllll in!" Link earth 62 witnessed everything his doppelganger has been. From Killing Seismic, to seeing the look in his daughter's face upon knowing that Hot Pursuit killed his father, From going negative and killing more meta human criminals, to finally killing his mentor.. Who was also a doppelganger of Rusl. Link earth-62 started to scream not wanting to see it anymore he dropped to the floor of the speed force and started breaking down seeing the look on Rusl's face upon taking his last breath, his vibrating hand in Rusl's chest. "That's right kid, Loose control! Wreak havoc! GO NEGATIVE!"

"I don't wanna do it! I DON'T WANNA SEE IT ANYMORE! MAKE IT STOP!" Link earth-62 now rolling on the floor, he felt like he was living Link earth-316's life and it was a nightmare. He wanted it to stop but it just kept playing in his head. He tried to calm himself down but it doesn't seem to work.

"That's right! That's what happens if you keep going this rout. It only gets worst from here, from what I've heard you don't have a special someone to confide in with! hahaha! So! Enjoy the nightmares kid! There's hope for me after all! I'm not the worst variant of me after all! Hahahaha! Be seeing ya kid!" And just like that Link earth-316 left the speed force and went back to his reality leaving Link earth-62 to deal with the memories he was witnessing.

When he regained his composure Link got up and ran exiting the speed force went home took of his suit and placed it inside his ring, and took off his ring threw it across his room and hugged his knees and broke down crying in the corner of his room. He kept on saying "I'm sorry Rusl!" over and over and over again, he did nothing all day besides cry, get angry, and feel nothing at all. He refused to eat causing him to pass out due to his hyper metabolism as a speedster. His grandmother and grandfather took turns checking up on him asking him why he doesn't eat or speak. Hours become days and he was missing school so his friends tried to visit him but he still refused to come out of his room and talk to them. When he passed out again he didn't wake up anymore and when his grandmother checked on him she screamed and feared the worst upon checking his body for cuts she couldn't find any upon checking his pulse it was there but fleeting. They decided to take him to the hospital.

The people began to notice that Flash is no longer patrolling the city and criminal meta humans decided to grab the opportunity and wreak havoc and do what they do best. Which was doing crime, one crew in particular calling themselves "The Fearsome Four" a group of former humans now meta-humans with diverse abilities in their arsenal. The leader calling himself Hydro, who has water powers. Another member of the group was blackout, he has the powers to control and create electricity. The third member was a female meta called Killer Frost, she has the power to create ice. And lastly Metal-Man a meta that could turn his skin into any metal, he was the group's bullet proof, taking gunshots without even denting or scratching his metal skin. For days this crew has been wreaking havoc all around the city stealing from bank after bank after bank taking whatever they want and murdering innocent civilians along the way. They were all over the news and no one could stop them, not even the military.

They were able to stabilize Link's condition and he woke up 4 days later. The doctors were shocked that his body managed to suck up and absorb a large amounts of IV bags that a human body wouldn't able to consume. What they didn't know was that Link was no ordinary human, he was a speedster a class of meta-human that could move at lightning speed. When he was finally being discharged he still refused to talk, all those feelings of sadness, anger, and guilt all disappeared and was replaced with nothing at all, he felt nothing, he felt empty.

Upon reaching home he immediately went to his room and went back to his corner and just sat there staring at nothing. The Speed Force talked to him trying to convince him to become who he was meant to be, but it was faced with radio silence. The Speed Force left but then Rusl spoke to him from his watch meanwhile the Fearsome Five was wreaking havoc downtown, they ran out of banks to rob and was board so the decided to just mess around and kill people.

"Link! Please Link! Get out of your slump! Go be The Flash! Your city needs The Flash, it needs you! Look I know you made a mistake but all great heroes make mistakes, don't let one bad mistake get you off track from doing what's right! You have to get back up and keep fighting! Link, The Speed Force chose you for a reason! Link! People are gonna die! Whatever your doppelganger showed you and said to you it's not gonna happen! I'll make sure of it! I'm not giving up on you so don't give up on yourself! You're new to this but you're already one of the best heroes I know! Please don't let it go to waste!.. Know that I'm very proud of you no matter what! Now go and save the day! Like you usually do! You're better than this, you are tougher than this, now run Link! Run!" Orange electricity began to appear on both of Link's eyes, and in a split second he was gone, and the ring which he threw across his room was also gone.

Mean while The Fearsome Five where having the time of their lives destroying the city, until a red blur with orange lightning streak took one of them out. Metal-man was the first to be immobilized, The Flash tied him up with a heavy duty rope and wrapped him on a street post. "[Vibrating voice] And then there was 4. [Vibrating Voice]" The whole group turned to face in the voice's direction and what they witnessed shock them.. He was there. The scarlet speedster, the fastest man alive! The Flash.

Hydro created water and splashed it on the ground creating a wet circular area around his crew he asked Killer Frost to freeze the water around them and so she did creating a slippery terrain surrounding them. "Try running on that speedy!" Hydro taunted and challenged him to do so. Link sarcastically applauded them for coming up with a plan.

"[Vibrating Voice] So let me get this straight you're the fearsome four right? So what do I call each of you then? [Vibrating Voice]" They tried to answer him but he cut them off. "[Vibrating Voice] Wait, wait, wait, wait! Let me guess. You're H2Bro *Points at Hydro*, and you're blueberry Popsicle *Points at Killer Frost*, and you are if I were to guess.. Sparky? *Points at Blackout*, and the guy hanging tied to a post must be... The Tin can! [Vibrating Voice]" The Flash smiled and nodded feeling proud of the names he has given them.

"MY NAME IS HYDRO!" Hydro screamed.

"[Vibrating Voice] Hydro? Hydro what cephalus? [Vibrating Voice]" He shot water at Flash but then he dodged it. "[Vibrating Voice] Okay so. So just Hydro! Got it! Message received!... Are you sure it's too late to change it? I like Hydrocephalus better since you must be full of water in your head and s- [Vibrating Voice]" Flash was cut off by another water launched into his direction. "[Vibrating Voice] Is he always like this? [Vibrating Voice]" He was then dodged yet another water shot. "[Vibrating Voice] Listen here magikarp stop splashing water around, it's darn right wasteful. [Vibrating Voice]" Flash said crossing his arms.

"Blackout get him!" Hydro commanded. Blackout did as he was told and shot electricity out of his hand in Flash's direction.

Flash used flash time and everything stopped. He walked towards the ice covered ground with no problem due to his ability to move at super speed that it doesn't matter if the ground he was stepping on was slippery. He grabbed Hydro and placed him on the area he was standing on previously. Flash then went to take Hydro's place which was in between Killer Frost and Blackout. He then stopped using flash time and his speed causing Blackout's electricity to hit Hydro instead of Flash. "[Vibrating Voice] Friendly fire is on and it was super effective! [Vibrating Voice]* Hydro was passed out due to the amount of electricity he took from his own teammate. Flash looked at Killer Frost taking in her angry and confused look. "[Vibrating Voice] Oh don't look at me like that it was him! [Vibrating Voice]" He said pointing his thumbs at Blackout. Killer Frost without thinking shot at Flash who effortlessly side stepped causing Killer Frost to hit Blackout Freezing him in place. Flash capitalized and untied Metal-man and threw him at Killer Frost with the help of his super speed he could throw even the heaviest of objects with no effort due to the kinetic energy he's building up. When he stopped using his speed Metal-man already hit Killer Frost. Link not wasting anytime grabbed the heavy duty rope and tied them all up in a group and left everything to the police.

Rusl was waiting for him inside the speed force who witnessed everything that he did and was smiling at him. Link not holding back ran to Rusl at super speed and embraced his mentor apologizing for what he did and thanking him for the suit and the pep talk.

"I'm sorry too Link! I should have handled it a little more maturely. You earned that suit, no need to thank me. And as for the pep talk? It wasn't really a pep talk! I meant every world of it! Someone's here to apologize to you too." Rusl pointed behind Link and saw Link earth-316

"I'm sorry for what I did Flash.. I didn't want to do it but.. You are hard I mean HARD to convince.. Like damn! I did what I did because I really don't want you to end up like me.. Yes I killed people and yes I killed my mentor but.. I'm on the road to redeem myself. But with the help of my wife Kara I think this journey of mine would be less troublesome.

"Kara? Who's that Link?" Link earth-62 asked.

"I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise for you Link!" He winked at his doppelganger and walked slowly to create a breach to exit the speed force.

"Wait! What about Zelda?" Link earth-62 shouted at his doppelganger.

"We ain't really for each other bud! She's with Marth!" With that Hot Pursuit started running and created a breach to exit the speed force.

"Rusl he isn't really evil was he?" Link asked his mentor who smiled at him.

"Just because a hero lost his way doesn't mean he's irredeemable.. You must never forget that everyone deserves a second chance.. and not all those who are connected to the negative speed force are evil, I know speedsters who are connected to the negative speed force that are noble and are willing to sacrifice their lives just to save people, there are also some speedsters who are connected to the positive speed force who are vile and evil creatures.. So don't let you're guard down Link." Rusl advised his apprentice before making his own breach and exiting the speed force.

-In the area where Link and his parents had the accident.

A time breach opened and out came a mysterious speedster with red lightning, around Link's height and build. "Gideon, what year is this?"

"[AI Voice] It is the year 2180. [AI Voice]"

"Did the Dark Matter hurricane already happened?"

"[AI Voice] It already did. [AI Voice]"

The mysterious speedster laughed in satisfaction. "Then I'm in the right era.. hahaha! I'll see you soon." "[Distorted Vibrating Voice] Link! [Distorted Vibrating Voice]" With glowing red eyes he smiled a sinister smile.
