Chapter 9
Kagome just sat there, white-faced and wide-eyed, after he finished his sentence. This must be a joke; or she just imagined what he said.
"That can't be… You just met me." She said quietly.
He looked solemnly, with a tinge of love. "Yes, you met me in your current form. But 500 years ago we were to be married and unite the demon and human world forever. Until some bastard came and shot you with an arrow and ended your life."
Her breathing started to become shallow, she was getting overwhelmed with this new revelation. She started to panic, this couldn't be real but her body was agreeing with every word he was saying; as she a missing puzzle piece was slotted in and finally completed the mystery of her life.
She swiftly got up. "I need to leave."
"Kagome, you cannot run from this; you and I bound together for life. Now that I have mated you, your memories will start flowing back and you need me to help you guide through it." He said, as he stood up to try stop her.
"Mated?" She stilled.
"Yes. That tattoo on your neck is my mating mark. When we made love last night; I bit your neck and forever took you as my eternal mate."
She reached and touched her neck, sensation flooding her when she touched the mark he left on her. Something flashed in his eyes when she touched her mark; something close to lust.
"It affects me as well, when you touch the mark. I understand you are overwhelmed with this information, kitten, but if you touch that mark again; I will bend you across this table and have my way with you." He said, lowly.
Heat flooded Kagome, and it made her feel more confused at to what was happening. All of this was too much for her. She didn't know what to believe, but hearing those words come out of his mouth made her hot and bothered.
"I need time to think; this is all too much for me. All too strange." She said quickly, getting up from her seat and running away from him before she could change her mind.
She quickly made it back to the dance studio and made a beeline for her car. Pulling out of the driveway, she looked in the rearview mirror and for a split second, thought she saw Sesshomaru's car before racing out the parking lot and heading to Sango's houses.

Kagome made it to Sango's house in less than 20 minutes, breathing hard as she stumbled out her car and quickly ran to the front door and pulled it open, slamming herself inside. She leaned against the closed door; nothing could stop the feeling that she was still being followed.
Sango arrived at the top of the stairs, stunned to see Kagome in such a state. "Babe, what's going on?"
It took a second for Kagome to regain her breathing to a normal pace before answering.
"Sango, everything is so fucked up. I've got this tattoo on my neck that Sesshomaru claimed is a 'mating mark' because is now some 500 year old demon and I am his reincarnated mate. I don't know what to do, it shouldn't be real but my body is saying I need to believe him." Kagome spoke fastly.
Sango just stared at her as she rambled on. As soon as she was done, a solemn look cast over Sango. Kagome stared at her.
"What?"
"I didn't he would tell you so soon." Sango said quietly.
Kagome blanched at this statement.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Kagome asked.
Sango just looked at her, unsure.
"Sango, tell me what is going on right now." Kagome demanded.
Sango hesitated. "500 years ago, I was tasked as your protector as you got ready to unite the demon and human world with Sesshomaru. He tasked me himself and I failed when that bastard shot an arrow through your heart during the ceremony. For half a millennia I've been waiting to redeem myself and protect you once again, only making sure you stay alive this time."
Kagome was actually speechless; no words or thoughts could she form. She had been lied to by her best friend for her entire life.
"Did our friendship actually mean anything to you; or was it just duty bound?" She asked with venom in her voice.
Sango looked genuinely hurt by the question.
"Sesshomaru only tasked me with the task of your protector because I was your best friend. Kagome I've known you my entire life and it nearly killed me when I saw that arrow in your chest." Sango said, her voice breaking.
Hearing that nearly broke Kagome's heart, she stared long and hard at Sango before they fell into each others arms, tears falling.
"What do I do Sango?" Kagome asked.
"Unfortunately since Sesshomaru has marked you, you can't run from your past anymore. The memories are going to resurface and you need him there." Sango said as she pulled away from her best friend.
"But why can't you help me through them?" Kagome asked, wiping her eyes.
"Because you have underlying miko powers and the resurfacing of the memories could flare them up and nearly destroy you. Sesshomaru has mated you and can take half the powers ability into his own demon energy to spare you from death." Sango said solemnly.
Kagome paled at the thought of her dying.
Suddenly a knock sounded through the empty household and both girls could guess who it was. Kagome couldn't bring herself to rise from he couch so Sango got up and went to the front door. Hushed conversation flowed into the living room until Sango stepped through with none other than Sesshomaru.
The way he looked at Kagome nearly made her crumble and run to him. But her mind was so scrambled at the moment; to full of fear. So she just stared at him.
"My love, it was not my intention to overwhelm you with this information." He simply said, striding to her on the couch, keeping a cautious distance as he sat down as to not to frighten her further.
She didn't say anything further, so Sesshomaru and Sango exchanged looks. He looked back at his mate and realised there was no more hiding and had to tell her everything.
"My love, I know this is a lot right now but I need to tell you this."
Kagome looked at him, he could she the distant want in her eyes and that gave a bit hope that this would all work out.
"Given the fact that we are mated now, your memories will appear very soon and you would need to be with me as much as possible so I can help protect you." He said slowly as to not frighten her further.
"So what does that mean?" Kagome asked warily.
"I need you to move in with me."
