Yu-Gi-Oh GX – Next Gen X (NGX)
Chapter 1
A Chaotic Magical Beginning
…Tick tock, tick tock. The sounds of a wall clock echoed within the small room. The room was rather lacking in terms of items, with only a couple of posters here or there of famous Duel Monsters. Other then that was a small dresser, a tall mirror, a desk with a chair with an old Battle City duel disk on the table, and a bed with a nightstand with a set of keys and a deck in a deck case.
In the bed was young man, snoring away in a pair of star pajamas as a ball of light rose from the deck. The light then shimmered as a small see-through figure appeared above him. The figure was a tiny pink haired girl with red eyes, pointed ears, a yellow strapless long-sleeve top, yellow thigh-high socks, a two-piece orange bikini set, orange high-heels, and four blue insect like wings. "Sho. Sho! SHO!"
The little pixie puffed her cheeks as she moved right next to the boy's ear and yelled at the top of her lungs. "SHO! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"
"GAH!" The boy stumbled out of the in fright as he landed on the ground face first. Turning to the now laughing pixie, the boy glared as he gained shark-teeth. "What the fuck Sunny!?"
Sunny, the pixie, just pulled her eyelid down and stuck her tongue out. "It isn't my fault you reacted like that. I was just trying to wake you up so you're not late."
The boy then stopped as he turned to the clock in his room. "…8:45… THE SIGN-UP ENDS IN 45 MINUTES!" He then rushed around his room, throwing clothes around as the pixie rolled her eyes.
In a few short moments, the boy looked in mirror to see himself. He stood there with sapphire blue eyes, bright red hair, and was standing at five foot eight inches. He was wearing a red t-shirt, pair of old navy-blue jeans, a pair of black aviator sunglasses, and a pair of scuffed black boots. Putting on his duel disk, grabbing his deck, and grabbing his keys, he rushed out of the room. …Only to be tackled to the ground by a little girl. "Big brother!"
"…Ow." Sitting up, the boy ruffled the little brunette's head as he stood up. "Not today Selena. I got to hurry to the tournament sign-up!"
Those words caused the girl to gain stars in her eyes. "The NGX! It's starting today!?"
Sho laughed and nodded his head as moved towards the front entrance, where a beautiful older lady with dark-brown hair, green eyes, a pair of circular reading glasses, a beige cardigan, a dull light-blue shirt, a long black skirt that reached her ankles, and a pair of brown slipper shoes. She was standing there with a grey bomber jacket with a fur lining around the collar. "Don't forget your jacket."
The boy smiled and slipped the jacket on, showing that it was slightly too big for him, as he looked at the dark-brown haired lady. "Thanks Miss Hill." The lady gave a look as he chuckled. "Sorry… but no. I'm stick with Miss Hill. I'm not calling my caretaker Eleanor." A sigh came from the lady, but she smiled, nonetheless.
Rushing outside, Sho walked over to a slightly beat up electric scooter. Sitting down and turning, Sho saw Miss Hill and the little girl waving. He also watched as a bunch more kids came out as there were now a dozen kids, all waving and cheering for Sho. The boy smiled and placed his sunglasses over his eyes as Sunny sat down on his shoulder. Then, starting the scooter, the duelist headed out.
His destination? Kaiba Corporation!
Screeching into the parking lot of the building, Sho groaned as he parked his scooter. "God the traffic was absolutely terrible! But we're gonna make it!"
"That is if you can sign up in…" Sunny looked up at central clock tower of Domino City. "…the next five minutes."
"WHAT!?" Turning to the clock tower as well, Sho saw that it was indeed 9:25. "CRAP!" And with that, the boy rushed towards the main entrance of the building. The doors automatically opened as the redhead sped past to the front desk, scaring the receptionist as he slammed his hands down on the counter. "I'm here to sign up for the tournament!"
...
Deeper within the building, there was a large collection of duelists from all over within a large gathering room. All of them were in the 15 to 18 age range as they talked back and forth. Many had Duel Academy uniforms while others were dressed for success.
Meanwhile, above with windows looking down, was a massive control room where many workers were running back and forth. And standing in the middle, looking down at the participants was none other than Seto Kaiba himself. Much older since the years of Battle City but still as powerful as ever.
Walking up to him in a suit was his little brother Mokuba who was now much older. "Hey Seto?" The CEO then stopped as he looked at a note. "There's also a bit of a complication with one of the participants."
Seto sighed and turned to Mokuba. "There's always one individual. So, what's the case?"
Giving a nod, Mokuba pulled out a remote, turning on the monitor of the room. A profile then appeared on the screen. "Sho Makino. He passed the preliminary testing rounds, however, he appeared at the very end of sign up. The staff are talking about whether he should be allowed into the tournament." Mokuba then frowned. "Though… it seems to be more due to his background rather than his skills."
Seto stared at the profile for a moment. "Hmm… Location of residence appears to be Triple Star Orphanage. Seems to have been unable to get adopted." However, when Seto looked at the boy, he noticed something that made him stop for a moment.
Not noticing, Mokuba continued. "Yeah. Unfortunately, the staff at the front held off the sign up for him until past time. It was thanks to our receptionist that I was able to learn about this."
"Give him a challenge." This caused Mokuba to stop and turn to Seto as the CEO continued. "This boy… it's his eyes. My daughter has similar eyes to mine that hold a drive for power. Meanwhile, this boy? He's got a look similar to some duelist I know… An unyielding drive." This brought a small laugh to Seto. "So give him what he wants. A challenge."
...
Sho groaned as he sat in one of the chairs in the main lobby. "Great. Just great. Finally have a chance to prove myself and stopped at the front door." He gave a frown and glare at the whispering staff. "Damn elitism…"
Sunny frowned at the boy when the two then heard a deep calming voice echo out from his deck. "Calm down Sho. They haven't told you to leave yet. It has to go through the upper ranks. There's still a chance."
"…Yeah. You're right." The boy smiled as Sunny sat down on his shoulder again. "Thanks again Arc."
The pixie on his shoulder huffed and crossed her arms. "I could have given you a pep talk as well!"
Sho rolled his eyes as the pixie. "Yeah yeah. Of course you could have you cheeky pixie."
"That's right!" Sunny huffed and puffed her chest out. "And don't you forget it!"
"Brat." Ignoring the offended pixie on his shoulder, he then noticed the receptionist approaching. "So… what's the verdict?"
Giving a slight bow, the receptionist spoke. "Firstly, I am sorry for my colleagues. And as for your registration, Mr. Kaiba approved it." The boy gained a smile as the receptionist spoke up once more. "With a stipulation."
This caused the boy to stop. "Wait, what would that be?"
The receptionist frowned. "Due to our staff's belief, it is decided that one of those non-believers will face you in a duel. If you win, you'll get an apology and a payment fee for this. However, if you lose, you will be kicked from the tournament."
Sho was silent for a moment as he processed her words… before he started to laugh. The receptionist was shocked before Sho calmed his laughs and shook his head. "For a second I thought it was something serious." The boy then stood up from his seat as he gave a fierce grin. "Ain't no way I'm backing down from a duel!"
One of the workers standing nearby snorted. "Yeah right. He's probably just some brat who got off easy. Couldn't duel out of a paper bag."
"Well Mister Matt Burke." Everyone nearby turned towards the now approaching Mokuba. "Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? Because you'll be the one dueling him."
The worker was shocked to be called out, but soon smirked and pulled out their top-of-the-line duel disk. "Why sir… it would be my pleasure."
Mokuba nodded as he motioned for the man to follow. Turning to look at Sho, he smiled. "Guess you'll have to face an uphill battle. But I think you can handle it. After all, it's not the location that determines the duelist."
Hearing the compliment, the redhead gained a feral grin as he nodded. "Bring it on!"
The buzzing of the gathering room continued on until the doors opened to reveal Mokuba Kaiba walking into the room, followed by Sho and the Kaiba Corp worker. Moving past all the participants, Sho and the worker were told to stand at opposite sides of the stage as Mokuba walked up to a microphone.
"Greetings participants of the NGX tournament! Today is the day that you will begin your journey to become the next King or Queen of Games!" The crowd cheered as Mokuba held up a hand. "However, before we start, we have a sort of exhibition match. To my left, we have our Kaiba Corporation worker Matt Burke who believes that this one participant does not have what it takes to participate in the tournament. If he loses, he will have to admit his loss and apologize to the duelist while also paying a fee." The Kaiba Corp worker pulled out their highest tech duel disc as he sneered at the redheaded boy across from him.
Mokuba then pointed to Sho. "The participate in question is Sho Makino, who is risking his spot in the tournament." He then turned to the boy and smiled. "Be sure to give a strong showing. We want to show the world how this tournament is the cream of the crop."
With that, Mokuba headed to a nearby elevator, heading up to the main deck as Matt scoffed. "Please. You probably got by with pure luck. You're some street rat who never even went to Duel Academy."
Sho just smirked as he activated his old Battle City Duel Disk. "Just because I'm not a rich boy doesn't mean I can't kick ass in a duel. And who cares if I've never been to Duel Academy?" He then placed his shuffled deck into his duel disk and held it out. "Cause the connection I have with my deck? It's a kind of magic that can't be replicated with any amount of studying… Better bring your A-Game… cause it's time to bring the chaos!"
The Kaiba Corp worker scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Whatever bottom-feeder. I'll knock that smug grin off your face and kick you out to where you belong."
"DUEL!" "DUEL!"
-Sho: 4000
-Sho Hand: 5
-Matt: 4000
-Matt Hand: 5
Matt glared at the boy. "Since you're the 'special guest'… you go first." Sho simply shrugged at the insult as he drew a card.
-Sho Hand: 6
-Matt Hand: 5
"Alright then." He smirked. "I'll start things off by summoning Royal Magical Library in face up defence mode!" Sho placed down his card as a hologram of a large library appeared on the field.
...
Royal Magic Library – LIGHT – Spellcaster – Effect Monster – Level 4
0 Attack / 2000 Defence
Each time a Spell Card is activated, place 1 Spell Counter on this card when that Spell resolves (max. 3). You can remove 3 Spell Counters from this card; draw 1 card.
...
...
Up in the viewing, Seto hummed a bit as Mokuba spoke up. "Seems his strategy hasn't changed from the preliminary tests. A spellcaster Spell Counter deck." A collection of images popped up, showing Sho dueling. "He's rather skilled in his technique. Plus, not many duelists go with a Spell Counter strategy."
Seto nodded. "Magicians can be powerful with the right support. Yugi is a prime example… but he also ran other monsters to balance it out." He then smirked. "But this collection… seems this Sho Makino has been collecting quite a powerful roster of cards."
Mokuba nodded. "From what his interview during the testing process stated, he's been collecting his deck since he was around 7 years old… so that would be for nearly 10 years now considering he's 17 years old." The younger brother then frowned. "However, there is one thing that caught our eye."
Seto turned to his brother with a raised brow as Mokuba pulled up a card. "This monster is called Sunny Pixie. A rather unimpressive card at first glance… However, Sho during the testing phase could be heard complaining that he didn't get to summon it at the right moment. And considering the monster's strange description…"
Seto stared at the card with a small look of curiosity. "…Tuner monster? Let's see what that means."
...
Back down on the field, Sho grinned. "I'll also place two cards face down and then I activate the spell card, Swords of Revealing Light!"
...
Swords of Revealing Light – Normal Spell Card
After this card's activation, it remains on the field, but you must destroy it during the End Phase of your opponent's 3rd turn. When this card is activated: If your opponent controls a face-down monster, flip all monsters they control face-up. While this card is face-up on the field, your opponent's monsters cannot declare an attack.
...
Activating the card, a collection of light swords fell from the sky and surrounded the Kaiba Corp worker. As the swords calmed down and stayed in place, a spell counter appeared from them and flew towards the library. Once it approached, it started to float around it.
Royal Magic Library: Spell Counter – 1
"And with that, I'll end my turn." Sho then stood there, prepared for the next turn.
-Sho Hand: 2
-Matt Hand: 5
Matt glared as he drew a card. "Great… a stall duelist. The worst kind of duelist." Looking at his hand, he smirked. "I summon Giant Rat in Attack mode!"
-Sho Hand: 2
-Matt Hand: 6

As the massive rat monster appeared on the worker's side of the field, he then smirked. "I then place two cards face down and end my turn. Your move."
-Sho Hand: 2
-Matt Hand: 3
Sho rolled before regaining his grin. "My turn! Draw!"
-Sho Hand: 3
-Matt Hand: 3
Sho drew his card as he looked at his field. "And I'll start this turn off by activating Spell Power Grasp!"
...
Spell Power Grasp – Normal Spell Card

...
"This card allows me to add a Spell Counter to one face up card on the field. Which, in my case, will be my Royal Magic Library!" He then grinned. "Not only that, but I also get add one more Spell Power Grasp to my hand from my deck! However, I'm only allowed to activate this card once per turn. But… since this is a spell card…"
A magical blast hit the library as a second spell counter appeared floating around. However, once the spell card finished, a third spell counter appeared and began to float around the library.
Royal Magic Library: Spell Counter – 3
"Now I'll activate my Royal Magic Library's effect and draw one card." The three spell counters then disappeared as Sho drew a card and grinned. "And I'll summon the card I just drew! By sacrificing my Royal Magic Library, I can summon Chaos Command Magician!"
The library the swirled and vanished into a vortex as a green robed figure burst through.

"And now I'll attack your Giant Rat!" The green-clad spellcaster moved to strike as Sho pointed to his set cards. "However, not only that… I can activate my face down card! Magician's Circle! With this card, I can bring out a spellcaster with 2000 attack or less! And I'll be bringing out my buddy, Crusader of Endymion!" Suddenly, a massive magical circle appeared as a magician with floating armour around it appeared.

...
As the monster finished spawning, Chaos Command Magician had finished rushing towards Giant Rat, slashing it in half as it exploded, and wind blew back at Matt.
-Sho: 4000
-Matt: 4000 – 1000 = 3000
"Since you destroyed my Giant Rat, I can now special summon in attack mode one EARTH monster with 1500 or less attack points!" Matt then reached into his deck and smiled. "And I'll be summoning Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts!"

-Sho: 4000
-Matt: 3000 – 1000 = 2000
The man then pointed up with a grin. "Fierce leader of the forest, answer my cry! Defend the beasts and smash whoever comes in your way! Come forth! Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest!"
After the chant, a loud rumbling could be heard. Suddenly the ground burst open as a large hulking beast jumped out and slammed it's fists on the ground before yelling out loud.

"…Shit. That's a big problem." Sho stared at the beast with a serious expression. "But no matter! I can still take out your Gazelle! Crusader! Attack his Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts!"
"Not so fast street rat!" The man smirked as he pointed to his face down card. "I activate Horn of the Phantom Beast!" A red glow started to form around Gazelle.

Sho could only watch helplessly as his Crusader got slashed to pieces by the beast. With his monster's destruction, the winds of destruction blew back at Sho.
-Sho: 4000 – 400 = 3600
-Matt: 2000
"But not only that. Since Gazelle destroyed your monster in battle, I get to draw a card." Gazelle gave a mighty roar as the red glow appeared on Matt's deck, drawing a card."
-Sho Hand: 3
-Matt Hand: 4
The redhead duelist groaned as he looked at his cards. Nothing he can combo into yet… So, he sighed and nodded. "Alright then. I'll end my turn." And with that, the Kaiba Corp worker drew his next card.
-Sho Hand: 3
-Matt Hand: 5
Smirking at his hand, Matt looked at his field. "I activate Forest to increase all my Beasts my 200 Attack points." As he said this, a massive expansive forest appeared around the two duelists. Similarly, a light green glow appeared around Matt's monsters before disappearing.

Matt then smirked. "And with that, I'll end my turn." Sho stared at the man with a slight sweat of worry.
-Sho Hand: 4
-Matt Hand: 2
"Alright… My turn." Sho then looked at his hand and frowned. He didn't understand the fusion considering Gazelle was stronger. Yet… he didn't have much to work with anyways, so he stuck with it. "Well, not much I can do right now, so I'll just attack Chimera with Chaos Command Magician!"
Matt smirked and pointed to his other face down card. "I activate Beast Soul Swap!"

"Now, thanks to Ancient Crimson Ape, I gain 1000 life points whenever a monster I control is destroyed and sent to the graveyard!" He then held up a familiar card. "But I'll be using those 1000 life points to bring out my Green Baboon once more!"
-Sho: 3700
-Matt: 2000 – 100 + 1000 - 1000 = 1900
Sho cursed as he watched the earth tear open once more as Green Baboon hopped back out. "And due to Chimera's effect, I can special summon back to the field… Gazelle! Back once more!"

Rubbing his eyes, Sho groaned. "Of course it was a bait. And I fell right for it…" The redhead then looked down at his field before sighing. "I will set one monster on my side of the field… and I will end my turn." He said this with a frustrated voice as people started to chatter.
Sho was in a rough spot. Two powerful beasts and another monster on the field ahead of him. No solution in sight, so to many, it was. He could hear people questioning his skill. However, he wasn't going to give up. Not now, not ever!
-Sho Hand: 3
-Matt Hand: 2
"Man… I wish I was able to have Yellow Baboon on the field. Then this would be over even quicker." The man sighed overdramatically. "But I guess this is fine. I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Swords of Revealing Light."

-Sho: 3700
-Matt: 1900 + 1000 = 2900
Matt then smirked. "Now! Green Baboon! Attack his Chaos Command Magician! FERAL BEATDOWN!" With a roar, the beast struck.
Jumping up onto the forest trees, Green Baboon jumped back and forth before jumping high into the air above Chaos Command Magician. With a downward swing of his club and a loud roar, the club smashed into the magician, turning it into a pile of shattered pieces as Sho felt the winds of damage once more.
-Sho: 3700 – 400 = 3300
-Matt: 2900
"And now I attack your face-down with my Ancient Crimson Ape!" The ape gave a roar as it ran forward, slashing the face down monster with it's sword, revealing a masked clown smiling as it was sliced in half.
Sho watched as his face down clown shattered to bits as he shouted out. "I activate the effect of my destroyed Peten the Dark Clown!"

...
Suddenly, a black vortex appeared as Peten stepped out, bouncing happily. "By banishing Peten when he enters the graveyard, I can special summon from my hand or deck… Another Peten! So I'll summon him in defence mode!"
Matt scoffed at the clown. "Just a weak defence. I'll destroy it with my Gazelle!" The king of mythical beasts rushed forward and slashed clown into pieces… as a black vortex appeared again and out stepped another Peten.
Sho shook his head. "I can also banish that Peten to bring out my THIRD Peten in defence mode!" He then sighed… he made it out of the onslaught.
However, his opponent then laughed. "Whatever. On my next turn, you're finished! Because I end my turn." Giving a cocky grin, he huffed. "Make your last turn last street rat."
"You're wrong!" Sho glared at the man as he looked down at his deck. "My deck and I have improved over the years! Do I make mistakes? Yes. Do I win all the time? No! But do I give up? HELL NO! Because the duel isn't over until the last card is played!"
Sho then placed his fingers on the top card of his deck, preparing to draw. But just then, he felt a small presence touch his hand as he knew exactly who it was. Determined, he pulled with gusto. "I DRAW!"
-Sho Hand: 4
-Matt Hand: 0
Looking down at the card, he saw it was none other than Sunny Pixie. "Heya partner. Ready to win this game?"
The image on the card winked with a grin. "Let's do it!"
Sho grabbed a card from his hand and smirked. "I activate from my hand the spell card Magical Dimension!" He says this as strange sarcophagus appeared.

"By sacrificing my Peten, I can target one spellcaster in my hand and special summon them!" He then smiled as his Peten jumped into the sarcophagus which closed. "Sadly as this is my third Peten, I can't bring him back due to the others being banished away."
"However, it's not just a special summon… because I'm allowed to destroy one monster on the field!" The redhead then pointed his finger at Gazelle. "Now… I'll destroy your King of Mythical Beasts while I special summon from my hand Dark Red Enchanter!"

...
As the sarcophagus shook, it soon opened to reveal a red robed magician appeared who swung his staff with might. With a power wave, a slash of magic shot towards Gazelle, slicing it in half and shattering it, leaving Matt in shock.
The shock soon turned into laughter as he shook his head. "You idiot! You just destroyed my weakest monster and gave me another 1000 life points!"
-Sho: 3300
-Matt: 2900 + 1000 = 3900
"You've just doomed yourself even more!"
Sho, however, simply smirked. "You may think that, but I'm turning this game around! Because now I'll summon the key to our victory. I summon from my hand… Sunny Pixie!" Appearing in a flash of light was none other than Sunny, his partner.
"Oh yeah! Time for me to shine!" The pixie spoke confidently as Sho rolled his eyes.
"It really is. Let's do it partner!" He gained a confident smile on his face. One that Sunny matched.

However, this summon made the Kaiba Corp worker burst out laughing. "Seriously!? That weakling is your ace?" Some of the crowd laughed with him.
Sho just shook his head and smirked. "Nope. She's the KEY to my ace." This brought a wave of confusion as Sho breathed in… breathed out…
Suddenly, the boy moved his sunglasses down from his head and gave a grin. "Okay… here we go. The first time we'll get to pull this off. Let's do it to it!"
Taking a deep breath, Sho shouted from the top of his lungs. "I TUNE MY LEVEL 1 SUNNY PIXIE WITH MY LEVEL 6 DARK RED ENCHANTER!"
This caused a wave of confusion along with some gasps of shock as Sunny Pixie flew into the air followed by Dark Red Enchanter. Sunny then turned into a single large ring as Enchanter flew into the ring, turning into six stars.
Sho simply held up a fist with closed eyes as he continued to speak. "From the cosmos of mysteries, with arcana we shine! May he burst his way forward with magical might!" The stars and ring turned into a flash of light as Sho opened his eyes. "I SYNCHRO SUMMON… ARCANITE MAGICIAN!"
The light slowly disappeared as standing on the field was now a Dark Magician look alike, only he had greyish blue hair, red eyes, purple tinted skin, red markings, and a white and light purple robe. In his hand was a familiar staff, similar to that of the one and only Dark Magician. The magician, once he landed on the field, turned to Sho with a determined expression. "Shall we take care of this foe and claim victory?"
"That's right Arc!" Sho smiled with hope as he looked at his true Ace Monster. "This duel is ours!"

Arcanite Magician – LIGHT – Spellcaster – Synchro Effect Monster – Level 7
400 Attack / 1800 Defence
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner Spellcaster monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned: Place 2 Spell Counters on it. This card gains 1000 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. You can remove 1 Spell Counter from your field, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target.
...
The Kaiba Corp worker pointed at Sho in shock. "W-What the hell!? What kind of cheating card is that!?" He then turned up towards the boss with panic. "Boss! We have a cheater! This can't be allowed!"
...
Meanwhile, up top, all the workers were panicking while Mokuba stared at the screen in shock. Alarms were going off due to the unknown monster's appearance. "…S-Synchro summon? What is all this!? We've never heard about any new summoning condition being created!" He then turned to his brother who was silently staring at the screen. "Seto?"
And to Mokuba's surprise, Seto burst out laughing. "How long has it been since an unknown factor appear!" An old look entered Seto's eye. The same one he had when he tried to obtain the Egyptian Gods. The itch for knowledge.
"So that's why Sunny Pixie was so special! A Tuner monster to summon this mysterious Synchro Monster!" Seto laughed loudly as the workers started to look nervously at their boss. "Whether it was Pegasus or someone else, these cards are legitimate! There's no fake cards at all!"
Suddenly, Matt's words echoed up to the main deck as Seto confidently walked over to the microphone and spoke with a grin. "Our systems are top of the line and are built to detect whenever an individual uses any sort of cheated or fake card." The grin grew wider. "And this… Arcanite Magician? …Did not set off those systems. Meaning that this 'Synchro Summon' is legal in every possible way."
...
Hearing this caused the audience to look at the Magician in awe. Matt on the other hand looked in frustration before shaking his head. "Whatever! He'll fall flat just like the rest of your silly wand waving monsters! My monsters will beat over him!"
Sho just shook his head. "You should know the oldest rule of Duel Monsters… Never assume anything! Because Arcanite Magician has a powerful effect!" Suddenly, the ring that Sunny turned into sent two spell counters down as they circled Arcanite Magician. "When Arcanite Magician is Synchro Summoned, he gains two spell counters. And he gains 1000 attack points for each one!"

2400 Attack / 1800 Defence
"There's more to his effect! But first…" The ring above then changed back into the shimmering figure Sunny Pixie as she sent a small light beam down at Sho. Once the beam dissipated, Sunny disappeared into light. "Because I used Sunny Pixie to Synchro Summon a monster with the LIGHT attribute, I gained 1000 life points."
-Sho: 3300 + 1000 = 4300
-Matt: 3900
"And now? I'm going to use Arcanite's special ability!" People waited with bated breath as Sho smiled. "I can remove 1 Spell Counter from anywhere on my field to destroy one card my opponent controls." He then smirked. "And I was saving the right card just for that!"
As he said that, Sho flipped over his face down card. As he did, a large black stone with the Spell Counter symbol appeared. "My Pitch-Black Power Stone!"
...
Pitch-Black Power Stone – Continuous Trap Card
Activate this card by placing 3 Spell Counters on it. Once per turn, during your turn: You can target 1 other face-up card on the field that you can place a Spell Counter on; remove 1 Spell Counter from this card, and if you do, place 1 Spell Counter on that target. When the last Spell Counter(s) is removed from this card, destroy it.
...
Sho pointed at the Kaiba Corp worker's two monsters. "By removing two of the three spell counters of my power stone… I'll destroy your Ancient Crimson Ape and then your Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest! GO! ARCANA DESTRUCTION!"
The magician smirked as he started to spin his staff around. With a glow at it's end, he pointed it towards the power stone as a spell counter came out and rushed into the staff's gem. Then, with gusto, he pointed the staff at the red ape monster as a massive blast of magic shot forth, destroying it into pieces.
Following this, Arcanite Magician pointed his staff to the power stone once more as another spell counter exited the stone and entered the magician's staff's gem. Turning to the Green Baboon, he gave a smirk. "Farewell." And with that, he aimed at the beast and sent another blast of magic, shattering the beast defender into many pieces.
With the board now clear, Matt was sweating. "E-Even if my monsters are destroyed, I'll still survive this turn. You're monster isn't strong enough!"
However, Sho just gave a confident grin back. "That's where you're wrong! Because I'll activate Pitch-Black Power Stone's effect and send it's last Spell Counter onto Arcanite Magician!" The final spell counter escaped the stone as it shattered into a million pieces. The counter then moved to the synchro magician and circled around him with the other two counters.

3400 Attack / 1800 Defence
"But that's not all! Because I activate my last card in my hand! SPELL POWER GRASP!" The worker's eyes widened as he remembered. Activating the card gives another copy, even if you can only activate once per turn.
So he could only watch as a blast of magic shot towards the magician. From that blast came a fourth spell counter that started to float around Arcanite Magician as the four worked into a double ring X formation.

Matt paled as he took a step back. "W-Wait! Wait a minute!"
Sho, however, shook his head. "Hell no! We're not waiting at all!" Sho clenched his fist as he grinned. "We've waited long enough for this chance and now it's in front of us!" Arcanite Magician nodded as Sho turned to the crowd.
There was a collection of people, many were staring in shock and nervousness at the strange monster summoned. However, Sho could feel it… around fifteen other stares that held the same determination that he held. The drive to be the best and take it all the way to the top.
So taking a deep breath, Sho raised his fist and shouted to the heavens. "This is but my stepping stone! Because remember this moment! The moment the future King of Games summoned his ace!" His grin grew wider and wider. "BECAUSE WE'RE TAKING IT TO THE TOP! WE'RE GOING FOR THE THRONE AND NO ONE CAN STOP US!"
Pointing at his opponent, Sho called his final command for this duel. "Arcanite Magician! Finished this duel! CHAOS ARCANA!"
With a raise of his staff, the four spell counters flew into his staff's gem as it glowed with a powerful light as the magician then started to spin it around faster and faster before releasing a large magical wave at the Kaiba Corporation worker, who upon receiving the hit, felt the damage wave too strong that is sent him flying backwards.
-Sho: 4300
-Matt: 3900 – 4400 = 0 (LOSE)
SHO WINS
Standing proud and looking back at his duelist, Arcanite Magician nodded as Sho grinned right back. Appearing on Sho's shoulder was Sunny Pixie as the three felt their bond grow. And that won't stop anytime soon.
After all… this was only the beginning.
The NGX Tournament is officially starting!
-TO BE CONTINUED-
Hello everyone! Void here!
And oh god! I've done it again.
Welcome to another story? Tada?
Okay. So for context, I love Yu-Gi-Oh. A lot. It was one of my biggest fandoms I loved growing up. And then… I stopped after 5Ds. Yet, I was always a GX kid. So, I started to get back into Yu-Gi-Oh.
-Looks at current modern-day Yu-Gi-Oh-
…Nope. Not that.
See… I want to write an old-school Yu-Gi-Oh story as my craze over the franchise has not gone away. But, with GX and all that… I wanted to try and make some characters with their own unique decks and boss monsters.
And firstly we have our protagonist… Sho Makino! With his ace monster Arcanite Magician! And his spirit partner Sunny Pixie! Though, I'm not going to reveal this until next chapter… but Arcanite is not the only boss monster in the deck!
Side Note: The design I went with for Sunny Pixie is apparently the original Japanese version? It was simply the one on the site I was using to create these decks for work.
But this brings up another factor. Synchro. Is everyone going to have Synchro?
No. Synchro is going to be this strange occurrence that only a select few like Sho can access. But they're going to be VERY rare. Even then, Sho only has one other Synchro monster in his extra deck. It's also why Sunny Pixie is his spirit partner. Because she's Sho's only tuner monster.
Following this… No. There won't be any XYZ, Pendulum and especially no Link Monsters. Link Monsters are too confusing for me, Pendulum feels like a lot for this story, and XYZ… honestly had the best bet of also being a part of the story… but I decided to stick with just Synchro.
Finally, for legal cards, I'm going off the recent January TCG Banlist as well as allowing newer modern-day monsters… if they fit that is.
Side note: What did you think of the duel? I've never done this before so I'm trying to find a balance. Currently I'm doing "every card" and I'm planning to have it so that I don't need to repeat cards. But if there's a more efficient way to do this, let me know! Because I want to do these rather well!
Either way, I hope you'll all enjoy this story. Cause despite how much it took, I had fun writing this. Also, if anyone has a deck theme you wanna throw my way, let me know. And if you want the deck lists for the duelists posted as well, let me know!
But… that's all for now! Until next time! See you all later!
