Yu-Gi-Oh GX – Next Gen X (NGX)
Chapter 3
Electric Shock! Time to Rock!
Waking up the next day, Sho yawned and stretched as he rubbed his eyes. Turning his head, he saw the drooling spirit of Sunny Pixie, snoring on his pillow as he sighed. Moving over to his side desk, Sho grabbed Sunny's card and started to shake it as the spirit shot up quickly.
The pixie looked around confused before turning to Sho with a glare. "PRICK! Don't you know the concept of 'Never interrupt a ladies beauty sleep'!?"
Sho just chuckled and shook his head. "Yeah yeah. All I see is a pain in the ass pixie."
"HOW RUDE!" The pixie floated up as she crossed her arms. "I'll have you know I am peak beauty!"
"Yeah, say that when you don't have tornado bed-hair." The pixie blushed and started to fix her hair as Sho got dressed. "We need to help Miss Hill with breakfast and then head out to Joel's place."
Looking down at his phone, Sho double checked the directions. With a pep in his step, the duelist and spirit went downstairs as a little brunette tackled Sho again. "Big brother!"
The girl was wearing a cute yellow dress, had some pink highlights in her hair, and was wearing a pair of yellow Mary jane shoes. Chuckling a bit, Sho patted the girl on the head. "Hey Selena. You're energetic this morning!"
She nodded and puffed her chest out. "Yeah! I did all my work yesterday! So I can come watch you duel today!"
"That's great! …Although, I'm not dueling till tomorrow." The girl froze as her eyes opened and she looked at Sho in despair.
Miss Hill walked in to see Selena on her knees and hands as a dark storm cloud was over her head. "Oh dear… what happened."
"Oh, you know. Crushed dreams. Lost childhood. The usual of life." Sunny Pixie said this with a laugh as Sho rolled his eyes since no one could see her but him.
Crouching down, Sho patted the sad pouty girl on the head. "She's upset because I'm not dueling today but tomorrow." He then gained a smile as he looked down at her. "But… one of my new friends is dueling today. So we can go watch his duel if you're up for it."
Almost instantly, Selena perked right back up. "Let's go big brother! But breakfast first!" And rushed to head downstairs.
Sho chuckled and sighed. "I swear. She's the dueling bug from me."
"Well hopefully she can wait more…" Miss Hill sighed as Sho turned to her worried. "We're still just scrapping by, so we won't be able to buy anything for her just yet."
Sho frowned before he gained a small smile. "Don't worry Miss Hill. You're doing amazingly." He then pointed to himself with a grin. "And when I win the tournament, we'll have so much funding you won't believe it!"
With a pleased look on her face, Miss Hill nodded as Sho hurried down the stairs. As he did, Miss Hill's eyes widened as she saw an old figment of Sho as a young boy. "…It's nearly that day."
Shaking her head, she smiled. "Better get back to it." And with that, she headed down the stairs.
…
…
…
Preparing himself, Sho turned to Miss Hill as Selena was getting on her shoes. "Well, we're off! We'll be back later tonight."
Opening the door, however, caused Sho to be face to face with Lazuli who was standing in front of a fancy car. She looked at the building but didn't say anything as Sho blinked. "…Lazuli?" Sho raised a brow as he looked at the vehicle behind Lazuli and then back at her.. "Aren't we taking my scooter?"
This caused the girl to groan while Miss Hill giggled. "If you think I'm getting back on the death trap of yours… you're going to have get your brain checked."
…
Sho frowned as he, Lazuli and Selena sat in the back seat of the fancy car. "I could have driven us there on my scooter."
"And I told you… I prefer living." Lazuli said this as the two gave each other glares. Selena was oblivious as to the glaring contest over her head.
Soon enough, the three found themselves within the neighbourhood destination that was offered to them. Turning to the car, Lazuli gave a nod. "You can head out. Thanks again Roland."
The older man nodded as he started the car up once more, driving out.
Sho and Lazuli looked at the suburban neighbourhood with raised brows. Sho turned to the silver haired girl with a confused look. "So… you know which one is Joel's? All he said in his directions was that we'll know."
Suddenly a loud guitar riff could be heard echoing from a single house… followed by a lady shouting out loud. "JOEL! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT VOLUME!"
"SORRY MOM!" A familiar voice could be heard yelling as well. "ACCIDENTALLY SET IT TO MAX!"
The two gained deadpan looks as the lady shouted once more. "THAT WAS NO ACCIDENT AND YOU KNOW IT!"
"Well… I'm not a gambler." Lazuli turned to Sho as she pointed at the house that seemed to be rather loud. "I'm going to guess it's that one."
Selena looked up at Sho, a little nervous. "Your friend is loud."
Lazuli moved forward as Sho chuckled weakly. "Yeah… he is."
Approaching the front door and knocking, the three found themselves face to face with a older beautiful lady with a curvy body. She had long black hair, brown eyes and was wearing a blue cashmere sweater, a pair of jeans, and was wearing slippers. Her eyes widened as she gained a big smile and scooped the three into a hug.
Sho was confused, Lazuli was fighting, and Selena was hugging back as the lady squealed a bit. "Oh! My son's friends have finally come over!"
Getting his bearings a bit, Sho chuckled nervously within the lady's surprisingly strong hug. "Y-Yeah. I'm Sho, the feisty one is Lazuli, and the little one is my little sister Selena."
Selena looked at the lady with sparkling eyes. "Hi! I'm Selena! I'm seven! You're very pretty!"
The lady giggled lightly as she let go of the hug, to the joy of Lazuli, as she gave a warm smile. "Well, it's nice to meet you Selena. You look pretty too!"
Coming down the stairs, Sho and Lazuli watched as Joel with a guitar strapped to his back came down along with an older man. He was a taller fit man with a two-toned brown hair, a petite goatee with a chin strap beard, and heterochromia eyes with one gold and one blue. He was wearing a black shirt, a pair of jeans, and was also wearing a pair of slippers.
However, Sho blinked a bit as he stared at the man. "Ummm… hello sir?"
The man blinked, saw the scene taking place as his wife was now hugging the little girl tightly, and sighed with a small smile. "Ah. She's in her own world again."
Joel just sighed as he pointed to the living room. "Wanna sit down for a bit?"
…
…
…
After everything settled down, Sho, Lazuli and Selena were sitting across a sheepish Joel, a blushing mother, and a laughing father. The mother covered her face in embarrassment. "Sorry… I tend to hyperfocus… and it's the first time my baby boy was bringing friends over."
"Mommmmmmm…" Joel blushed a bit as he sighed.
The father just laughed and patted his son on the back. "It's alright son, you know how your mother is." Turning to the three, he gave a chuckle. "A pleasure to meet you all. I'm Joel's father, Jaden. Jaden Yuki." He said that with a smile as Sho saw a winged furball spirit appear around him along with what appeared to be to be a demon with three eyes as well.
Sho didn't say anything but could see the Winged Kuriboh wave to him while the demon stared. He felt uncomfortable for a second before he felt a familiar force, which caused the demon to look away, calming the redhead down.
Jaden then turned and pointed to the blushing lady with a loving smile. "And this beauty here is my lovely wife, Mindy."
Mindy blushed as she pushed Jaden's arm a bit. "Stoppppp…" Regaining her composure, she smiled. "As he said, I'm Mindy Yuki. Pleased to meet you."
Selena looked over at Joel and blinked. Joel turned to look at the little girl as he gave a toothy grin, causing the girl to become shy and look down.
Sho sighed at that and shook his head. "So Joel… we going to head out to your duel soon?"
"Oh! Yeah. I was just finishing up some jams, ya know?" He motioned to his electric guitar as he stood up. "It's a bit of a walk as it's over at the Aquarium." He said this as he showed his phone.
[DAY TWO DUEL: JOEL YUKI VS BRADFORD STANFORD THE THIRD]
The two other teens nod as they stand up, Sho picking up Selena for a piggyback, as they headed out. All the while Joel's parents waved them goodbye.
Once they were gone, the demon spirit floated over next to Jaden as he and Mindy turned to them. "Seems that the redheaded boy is surrounded by spirits."
Mindy tapped her chin as she hummed. "Well… he did have that pixie around him… but I'm not as skilled with this spirit stuff like you two."
Jaden chuckled and patted his wife's head, who smiled happily as he looked at Yubel with a serious look. "Indeed. Despite her size, the Pixie holds a power unlike anything I've seen. I'm fairly certain that spirit is the 'tuner' that Joel was telling us about."
"Not only that, but there also seemed to be other powerful spirits." The demon crossed their arms. "I tried to get a better glance… only for that magician Joel talked about to send me a warning to stop."
Jaden nodded as he watched the group walk down the street with a small smile and wrapping an arm around Mindy's shoulder. "Whatever the case, it seems out son found himself some reliable friends."
The two parents watched happily for a little more before returning back into the house.
…
Reach the Aquarium, Sho, Lazuli and Selena moved over to the bleachers as Joel walked up to a platform, where across from him was a duel academy student wearing an Obelisk Blue jacket. He had long black hair and was giving Joel a look.
Joel prepped his duel disk as he gave a wave to the guy. "Hey man. You my opponent."
However, the boy just scoffed. "Opponent? Please. I am your surperior." He placed a hand on his chest and spoke loudly. "I am THEE Bradford Stanford the Third, you peasant! And I shall begin my domination of this tournament with you, you utter flunkee." He then looked at the three watchers that came with him and started to laugh nasally. "And what's this? You befriend yourself with the tournament cheater, a shabby bum and an actual child? How pathetic can you get? Ahuh-huh-huh."
Sho and Lazuli were silent as they looked at one another before nodded. Sho placed his hands on Selena's ears, who was confused, as Lazuli yelled out loud. "KICK THAT PRETENIOUS DOUCHE CANOE'S ASS!"
Bradford look absolutely appalled while Joel laughed and gave a thumbs up. Meanwhile, Sho looked at Lazuli with a raised brow. "…Douche Canoe?" That got him a punch to the side as they focused on the duel.
Joel finished shuffling his cards as he looked at the guy with a smirk. "Well… Time to rock and roll!"
"DUEL!" "DUEL!"
-Joel: 4000
-Joel Hand: 5
-Bradford: 4000
-Bradford Hand: 5
Without even giving him a chance, Bradford snorted. "The upper class go first!" And with that, he drew a card.
-Joel Hand: 5
-Bradford Hand: 6
"I see… time to show how the higher-class work." He smirked as he placed two cards down. "To start, I set two face-down cards… and then I special summon onto the field Kaiser Vorse Raider because I currently control no monsters." As he said that, a blue skinned bigger version of Vorse Raider appeared onto the field.
Kaiser Vorse Raider – DARK – Beast-Warrior – Effect Monster – Level 5
1900 Attack / 1200 Defence
If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: This card gains 500 ATK. If this card is destroyed by battle: The monster that destroyed it loses 500 ATK.
The boy then gave a crooked grin. "But of course, that is not all! I also play Ancient Rules to special summon… Tri-Horned Dragon!" Suddenly a scroll appeared, before burning away to reveal a large scaley blue dragon.
Tri-Horned Dragon – DARK – Dragon – Normal Monster – Level 8
2850 Attack / 2350 Defence
An unworthy dragon with three sharp horns sprouting from its head.
"HAHAHA! See that riffraff?" He pointed to his field. "In just one turn, I have completely taken control of the field!" He then laughed and pointed. "Now hurry your turn so I can take my victory."
Joel just raised a brow and drew a card as he tilted his head at the guy. "…How could you have full control of the field? It's the first turn and I can easily pull something to change the state."
-Joel Hand: 6
-Bradford Hand: 1
Looking down at his cards, he nodded. "Like so." Placing a card, a huge blast of lightning shot past Joel and blasted Bradford's field as his two face down cards revealed Ring of Destruction and Mirror Force before they were zapped a lot and shattered into pieces.
Bradford stared gobsmacked as Joel turned his card around. "Gotta love Lightning Storm. Always a good starter."
Lightning Storm – Normal Spell Card
If you control no face-up cards: Activate 1 of these effects;
● Destroy all Attack Position monsters your opponent controls.
● Destroy all Spells and Traps your opponent controls.
You can only activate 1 "Lightning Storm" per turn.
Joel then looked at the rest of his cards. "But, since you did two summons, I should do so as well. I'll summon Pahunder in attack who's effect allows me to normal summon one level four LIGHT Thunder-type monster except for himself. And I'll choose my Wattcobra, also in attack mode."
As he said this, a man with lightning hair and lightning covering his arms landed in a superhero pose with a grin. He wearing a green uniform as he slammed his fists together and slamming them onto the ground, causing a bolt of lightning to strike from the sky. And from that bolt of lightning came a red and blue lightning snake hissed at the pompous jerk.
Pahunder – LIGHT – Thunder – Effect Monster – Level 4
1300 Attack / 600 Defence
Once per turn: You can Normal Summon 1 Level 4 LIGHT Thunder-Type monster from your hand, except "Pahunder", as an additional Normal Summon.
…
Wattcobra – LIGHT – Thunder – Effect Monster – Level 4
1000 Attack / 500 Defence
This card can attack your opponent directly. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent by a direct attack: Add 1 "Watt" monster from your Deck to your hand.
Joel then grabbed two cards and placed them down. "Now to repeat you even more, I'll place two cards face down…" And he then pointed at Bradford. "And then I'll attack you with Wattcobra."
This caused the Obelisk to blink and laugh. "Are you idiotic? Your monster is too weak-"
However, to the shock of the Obelisk, the snake slithered past the two monsters and lunged at him directly, biting into his arm before slithering back.
-Lazuli: 4000
-Bradford: 4000 – 1000 = 3000
"What!? Explain yourself plebian!" The Obelisk blue stomped their foot on the ground in frustration.
…
Meanwhile, in the crowd, Selena looked at Sho confused. "Why is he having a tantrum? Should we find his mommy to get him to stop?"
Sho had to hold back a laugh as he shook his head. "No Selena… we don't need to do that. He's just…"
"Being a meanie." Lazuli had a shit eating grin as Selena gasped and turned to Joel.
She cupped her hands and shouted. "You can do it! Beat the meanie!"
…
Back on the field, Joel smiled. "It's simple. Wattcobra is able to attack you directly. Not only that…" The cobra started to spark as a small jolt shot back at Joel as he looked through his deck. "I can add one Watt monster to my hand from my deck. Which I choose my little buddy Wattgiraffe."
Looking at his field with a smile, he motioned for the for Bradford to go, who drew with a huff.
-Joel Hand: 2
-Bradford Hand: 2
Suddenly a loud bang noise echoed out as the silhouette of an old warrior was next to Joel before fading. "Oh, don't mind me. I was just activating Thunder of Ruler."
Thunder of Ruler – Normal Trap Card
During your opponent's Standby Phase: You can activate this card; there is no Battle Phase this turn.
A tick mark appeared on Bradford's head as he growled and set both the cards in his hand as he glared. "Your move."
-Joel Hand: 3
-Bradford Hand: 0
Joel stared at his cards for a moment… before he nodded. "Okay. I think that's that."
"Oh ho? Admitting defeat?" The pompous boy was starting to laugh as some other arrogant audience members laughed as well. "Don't have anything to work with?"
However, Joel looked up and blinked. "Wait what? No. I was saying how on my next turn, I've won this duel."
…Silence echoed through the Aquarium before Bradford shouted at the top of his lungs. "ARE YOU INSANE!? You think you can truly defeat me!?"
"Oh yeah. One hundred percent." Joel shrugged and gave a smile. "Hey… this has been fun… but it's time for me to pick up the pace."
"To start, I'll use Pahunder's effect once more to bring out my Wattigiraffe!" Pahunder gave a nod and grin as he slammed the ground, summoning for an electrified giraffe.
Wattgiraffe – LIGHT – Thunder – Effect Monster – Level 4
1200 Attack / 100 Defence
This card can attack directly. If this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent by a direct attack: Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of this turn.
"And now, I'll activate my face down card… Judgement of Thunder." A silhouette of Wattkid appeared as they glowed with power and then fired towards the Tri-Horned Dragon, destroying it.
Judgement of Thunder – Normal Trap Card
Activate only when you Summon a Thunder-Type monster(s). Destroy 1 card your opponent controls.
"Thanks to it's effect, I could destroy one monster on your side of the field." However, he stopped when he noticed Bradford shaking… before laughing out loud.
"YOU FOOL!" Snapping his fingers, one of Bradford's face down cards flipped up, causing a dark Miasma to fill the field. "Because you destroyed a Level 8 or Higher monster on my side of the field… I can activate A Deal with Dark Ruler to special summon from my deck… BERSERK DRAGON!" As the Miasma faded, a black skeletal zombie dragon stood tall as it roared out.
A Deal with Dark Ruler – Quick-Play Spell Card
(This card is always treated as an "Archfiend" card.)
If a Level 8 or higher monster under your control was sent to the Graveyard this turn: Special Summon 1 "Berserk Dragon" from your hand or Deck.
…
Berserk Dragon – DARK – Zombie – Effect Monster – Level 8
3500 Attack / 0 Defence
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned with "A Deal with Dark Ruler" and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls once each. During each of your End Phases, this card loses 500 ATK.
…
In the bleachers, Selena squeaked in fear and hid behind Sho as she was nervous. "…Scary."
Looking at the field, Sho laughed out loud to which Lazuli looked confused. "What the heck are you laughing at you idiot?"
Catching his breath, he pointed to Joel who was standing unfazed. "Joel's got this in the bag. He's not even worried one bit!"
…
Back on the field, Bradford continued to laugh. "All you've done is give me a more powerful monster that on my next turn will attack every single one of your monsters, wiping you out for good!"
However, all Joel did was raise a brow. "Huh. Oh noooo... Anyways…" Ignoring the frustrated pompous Obelisk, he continued. "I'll use my normal summon this turn to summon Brohunder in attack mode." Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the ground next to Pahunder as a shorter kid stood tall with lighting hair, fists of lightning, and a big smile.
Brohunder – LIGHT – Thunder – Effect Monster – Level 4
900 Attack / 400 Defence
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 Level 4 LIGHT Thunder-Type monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Brohunder".
…
Selena blinked as she looked at the field, seeing the new electric wielding boy monster. She also had a small blush.
All the while, Sho turned and stared at his little sister, holding in a groan. Sunny Pixie appeared and started to poke his cheek. "Hehehe. Looks like little Selena got her first card crush~."
Now, Lazuli wasn't sure what was going on, but Sho was rubbing his eyes. When asked, he responded. "I am trying to fight off a future headache."
…
"Thanks to his effect, I get to add one level 4 Thunder monster to my hand from my deck. And I choose…" Brohunder gave a thumbs up as he turned to Joel and fired at the deck. Joel then held up a card of a graceful samurai warrior lady. "Denko Sekka."
He then looked at the cards in his hand before smiling. "Say. Bradford."
"That's Bradford Stanford the Third to you!" The boy shouted back.
Joel rolled his eyes. "And I don't care. So, what is your Vorse Raider's defence? And what's your Berserk Dragon's Defence?"
The Obelisk was confused but answered. "Kaiser Vorse Raider has 1200 and Berserk Dragon has zero."
"Perfect. Because I play Makiu, the Magical Mist." Suddenly, a large mist started to cover the field and a skull appeared within the mist. "Now, I can either selected a Summoned Skull… or a Thunder Monster on my side of the field. And if your monster has less defence then my monster's attack… it's destroyed."
Makiu, the Magical Mist – Normal Spell Card
Target 1 "Summoned Skull", or 1 Thunder monster, in your Monster Zone; destroy all monsters your opponent controls with DEF less than or equal to the ATK of that monster. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.
A grin started to form on Joel's face. "And Pahunder just so happens to have 1300 Attack."
Bradford's eyes widened as the mist started to circle around Pahunder. Gaining a purple glow in his eye, the lightning wielder started to gather electricity in both his hands, which started to mix of yellow and purple. The charges of electricity grew larger and larger… before he released them at the raider and zombie dragon, blasting them to bits.
With the monsters destroyed, the mist disappeared and Pahunder slowly turned back to normal as Joel grinned. "And there goes your beatsticks. But like I said, it's next turn. Because I can't do a battle phase the turn I activate Makiu. Your move."
-Joel Hand: 2
-Bradford Hand: 1
Bradford was sweating as he slowly drew his card before he blinked. Then, he smirked. "I'll set my one card face down and end my turn."
-Joel Hand: 3
-Bradford Hand: 0
Joel raised a brow but shrugged. "Bad luck man." Looking at his cards, he grinned. "To wrap this up, I summon in attack mode Denko Sekka!" Appearing on the field in a flash was a beautiful samurai warrior lady who slashed her sword. Cherry Blossoms swirled around her.
…
Sho nodded. "Joel's won."
"Yep. Idiot can't be stopped now." Lazuli said with a wise nod.
Selena, meanwhile, looked back and forth between the two confused. "What do you mean?"
"Heh. Just sit back and watch sis. The meanie is in for a massive shock." Sho said this while patting her on the head.
…
Joel nodded as he smiled. "And now it's time for battle! Pahunder, attack Bradford directly!" Pahunder gave a grin as he slammed his fists together and started to run towards Bradford.
However, the Obelisk smirked. "You fell into my trap you riffraff! I've won! I activate Blazing Mirror Force followed by Ring of Defence!" He went to activate his cards as there was a flash of blue. Bradford was confused but shook his head as he pressed the button…
…And nothing happened. "WHAT!?"
-Joel: 4000
-Bradford: 3000 – 1300 = 1700
The pompous boy was confused as he was punched with the electrical fist of Pahunder as he looked at Joel with a glare. "You cheat! You hack! How could you stop my duel disk from working!?"
Some of the Obelisk's fellow pompous elitists complained as well. All the while, Joel just looked confused as he tilted his head. "Cheated? Do you not know card effects?"
Suddenly, Denko Sekka appeared next to Joel with a glowing blue sword as the black haired rockstar grinned. "See, Denko Sekka has a special effect. She can't be special summoned sadly… but, while I control no set spells or traps on my side of the field…"
Denko Sekka – LIGHT – Thunder – Effect Monster – Level 4
1700 Attack / 1000 Defence
Cannot be Special Summoned. While you control no Set Spells/Traps, neither player can Set Spells/Traps nor activate Spell/Trap Cards that are Set on the field.
"…Then no one can set any spells or traps. Nor activate already set spells or traps!" Pointing to the two cards set on the field, he grinned. "Meaning no Blazing Mirror Force for you."
Bradford was silent as it started to pale. "W-Wait a minute… Then that means…"
"Yep. You're all done, and I didn't even have to bring out the bigger guns." Pointing forward, Joel had a confident smirk. "Time for the grand finale! Denko Sekka… finish this!"
The samurai lady nodded as she got into kneeling stance. Hand on one blade, she slowly started to take the sword out of a sheath as a blue lightning glow shined from the blade. And with a moment of silence, Denko Sekka opened her eyes and rushed at the speed of lightning, slashing Bradford before she faded away.
-Joel: 4000
-Bradford: 1700 – 1700 = 0
JOEL WINS
Bradford fell to his knees in disbelief as Joel gave a grin and a two-finger salute. "And that's the show! Thanks for the duel!"
Walking back over to the three spectators, Selena looked up at Joel with sparkles in her eyes. "That was so cool! You were like ZAP and ZOW!" Selena was moving her arms like the electric wielders. "And then there so many cool monsters! Like Denko Sekka and Brohunder!"
Joel laughed as he patted the energetic girl's head. "Well I'm glad I was able to provide a fun duel." Looking around, the boy gave a grin. "Say, since we're here, why don't we stick around?"
Sho and Selena became silent as they turned to one another. While the duel arena section of the Aquarium is open, the rest you have to pay for.
However, they were stopped as Lazuli slapped Sho on the back hard. "OW! Hey!"
"Calm down idiot one." She gave a smirk and a shrug. "I may not shout it from the rooftops, but I can pay for you two. Let me be the rich biiiii- rich girl for once." She said as she stopped herself from swearing.
Gaining a thankful smile, Sho soon grinned in excitement. "Sure! Let's do it!"
…
As the three were leaving the Aquarium, a sleepy Selena on Sho's back, the trio had smiles and laughs. Lazuli in particular was ribbing Joel. "Man, you have some crazy luck huh?"
The black-haired boy laughed and pushed the silver-haired girl slightly. "Shut up! It's not my fault the whale decided I was the perfect target for the splash zone."
"You mean the first or the fourth time?" Joel gave a small glare at the smirking Sho. "What? I'm just saying."
After some time, the laughs started to quiet, and it was just them walking back down the road. However, at some point, Lazuli stopped and turned to Sho. "Okay. I was holding off on this since… well… it's kind of a weird thing to ask. But I have to know…"
Almost instantly, Sho stopped moving and sighed. "…You want to know how I got Arcanite Magician and Sunny Pixie?"
"I mean, she's not wrong." Joel had his hands in his pockets. "You kinda came out of nowhere with a brand-new summoning method never before seen. Hell, have you seen some of the words online?"
Sho raised a brow as Joel moved his phone in the redhead's face. Taking a gander and reading it, his eyes widened. "I made national news!?"
Sure enough, the article was one from across the sea. All over the world people were talking about Sho as there was a recorded clip of Sho pulling of his synchro summon. Comments were a mixture of people requesting to buy Sho's cards, demands for the cards to be put into mass production, challenges from duelists, and many people claiming how he was a liar and a cheat.
All this made Sho stop as his mind raced. "I… I thought people were looking at me weirdly. But I just ignored it." Back at the orphanage, there wasn't much internet access, nor did they have any television since the old one broke. Out of all the kids, only Sho has a cellphone as he was the oldest and pretty much the secondary caretaker. So to find out he was famous worldwide was… shocking. "So, I'm some sort of…"
"Internet celebrity? Yep." Lazuli crossed her arms and raised a brow. "Of course, you're still an idiot so don't let that fame get to your head."
Those words made Sho stop and sigh as a small smile formed. Joel and Lazuli weren't going to change because of something like this. He then rubbed his chin in thought.
However, he then felt Arc place a hand on his shoulder. "If you want, you can tell them. Though I would recommend waiting until after your duel tomorrow."
"Yeah!" Sunny Pixie then formed as well in front of Sho. "They may not be able to hear us like you… but we're fine with you telling. More people to know my awesomeness!"
With a chuckle and the okay from the two, Sho nodded and looked at his two friends. "How about this. After my duel tomorrow, I'll tell you how I came to getting my cards."
Getting nods, the three continued onward as Sho thought back to that day. The day where things changed for him.
Where everything got as little more chaotic.
-TO BE CONTINUED-
Hello everyone! Void here!
And we've seen the deck of Joel Yuki… A Watt/Thunder Deck! There's more than meets the eye, but I hope you'll enjoy it!
And surprise! For those who thought Joel was close to Jaden and Joey… well yeah. He's the son of Jaden, who in this story married Mindy! Why did I do this pair? Well… truthfully, it's an untouched pairing and one that I think could work if done right.
Jaden is a laidback but confident individual who's main goal is to hang out with his friends and have sweet duels. Mindy is a kind-hearted girl who, while a little scatterbrained, is energetic and creative. The two could help each other's strength and support each other's weaknesses. That and it started from me making Joel's design, realizing I need a black-haired individual, and then connecting to Mindy… so… Tada!
Who knows, maybe in the future I'll write spinoff stories for pairs like that one. But either way, Joel's duel!
I'll be honest. The deck I have at the moment is in a rough stage, but the idea is the same. LIGHT Thunder monsters to help with the Watt archetype. How that'll look later on, who knows. But give me some suggestions for the deck! I'm always happy for them.
Though, don't pick a Tuner monster for the Watt archetype. I already picked which one.
…
Now, with that taken care of… I actually would like to spend this time to answer some questions given to me. I don't normally get questions, so this is a bit of a different section for myself… but HunterHQ? I hope this answers your questions! As well as respond to pokemonking0924.
(I've never had so many questions, but I actually love answering and talking to the readers so yeah!)
…
To start… pokemonking0924.
Nice to know the rules of this tournament but even though there's no official ante rule something tells me that some people will still do it.
Glad that the rules are well accepted! I tried to make them reasonable while still allowing me creative freedom. As for the card ante… Perhaps? Who knows~ (Well I know but shhhhhh. Suspense!)
It was also nice to meet the others two main characters Lazuli and Joel, Lazuli is definitely nicer than her father but definitely has his intelligence and determination.
As for Joel he kind of looks like a punkish combination of Joey Wheeler and Jaden Yuki.
You kinda nailed Joel on the head a bit. And yeah, Lazuli is pretty much that one friend who will make fun of you but will kick someone's butt they make fun of you.
I made them the other two protagonists for a reason. They all have their own ambitions but they're also not completely the same. Sho is confident and somewhat cocky. Lazuli is more logical and foul-mouthed. And Joel is laid-back yet still energetic.
Lazuli's duel was great and I like how you used those alien counters, I bet her deck uses not only the Alien archetype but also alien looking cards like that Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon
Ha! Yeah, that's the idea! Each character has their 'main styles/cards' but overall the decks are meant to feel free and not constrained to a single archetype. And as you saw, Lazuli has few more tricks that just Alien cards.
I'm also interested in seeing Joel duel during the second day of the tournament and Lazuli's sister Lapis duel Sho on day three
Keep up the good work
Well thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the story and I hope that the duel lived up to your expectations! I also have a lot of plans with the duel between Lapis and Sho! So I hope they'll be worth it!
…
And now, with HunterHG!
First synchro monster ever is it? Wish we knew how it happened in the anime but perhaps events here may lead to 5Ds slowly coming together even?
This is a small spoiler, but I'm actually going to try and explain how this came to be in the next chapter. The idea I had for this story was that Synchro Monsters first started to appear sometime back then. And yes… this is technically the first experience of a Synchro Monster within this story's world.
This story in general is more just a "separate world" scenario. I don't plan to go super serious with this story as it's more of a fun pastime. Nor is it a direct connection between GX and 5Ds. But if I can make an interesting story, that'll be neat.
Other spellcaster tuners later can be night end sorceror and frequency magician, maybe more spellcaster synchros like tempest magician, explosive magician or enlightenment paladin? Also fusion like Supreme Arcanite magician, Quintet magician. Maybe later Arcanite magician assault mode? Ritual like legendary flame lord also too.
Okay. So, I will admit this. For the deck that I've created for Sho? Sunny Pixie is the only tuner. Sunny was picked to be his 'spirit partner' as well as a kind of balance to Sho. A duo who's usually kept in check by Arcanite Magician.
And another thing I plan to stick to? Only 1 tuner per duelist. Prime example? Joel. The Watt archetype has multiple, and while part of me is like "Give him all the tuners"… it just wouldn't feel the same. Perhaps in the future more will come but as the story is right now? The story will only have 1 tuner per duelist.
So there won't be Night End Sorcerer or Frequency Magician for Sho.
As for Synchros, Fusions and Rituals? I'll answer some of them. Mainly synchro and ritual.
Tempest Magician? No. It is currently on the banlist for a good reason. And I'm trying to make decks following the current Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Banlist. But if Tempest was unbanned… I'm not too sure? The combo to basically burn the opponent, especially if the starting LP is 4000? Too strong.
Explosive Magician? This was guessed before but yes. Explosive Magician is in the roster.
Enlightenment Paladin? Ehhhhh no. It's one of the cases where it's too connected to Pendulum Monsters. And my brain is not ready to handle a story around that. It's only Synchros and POSSIBLY if I feel like it… XYZ.
Does Sho have other Synchro Monsters? Yes. Am I going to explain… welllllll… you'll have to wait and see.
As for Ritual and Legendary Flame Lord… No. That monster has been talked and guessed a good number of times but no. They are not in the deck for a specific reason. Again, you'll have to wait for his next duel to understand.
Green baboon's effect to special summon itself happens only if the destroyed beast isn't during the damage step which I assume during battle. So couldn't have been brought out with giant rat destroyed by battle.
… … Wait really?
-checks the card's effect again-
…Oops?
So, there's a fair chance I mess up and make a mistake with the game rules… THERE IS SO MANY TO REMEMBER! But hey. If I mess up, we can have a laugh but still enjoy the fun duels!
But thank you for pointing it out! I didn't even realize.
This seems a bit similar to when Yuya first brought out pendulums in Arc V and was considered legal.
Kinda yeah. Technically by the game's standards… It's legit. Duel Monsters be hella wonky with magic and spirits.
Will you use arc v fusions and synchros too? Even characters from there or the GX manga?
Probably? I don't know all the eras and such as I'm rather old-schooled.
(I stopped back when Zexal and the first wave of XYZ monsters came out.)
But basically, nothing is off limits. Except cards on the banlist currently. And for the characters? That all depends on how the story progresses. But I'm tending to do a mix of the Anime and the Manga, as with me using cards like Fiendish Engine Ω.
Going to do any opening or ending or reply to reviews?
Well… I'm doing reply to reviews right now! But if this will be a common thing, I don't know. I've never done review replies much before, so this is kind of a new thing. It's a maybe but unsure.
As for opening and ending? Like for an anime? I would love to do one but I'm holding off until I feel like we've reached a point where it won't spoil any ideas or anything. It's also a maybe right now.
Chet and his love for bikes is it a hint for duel runners to come in the future?
If anything, the hint was more Sho and his electric scooter. But nah. Chet's love for bikes was more because he was supposed to be a one-off character who used a Biker deck.
…That kinda changed and he's gonna grow in the story more but yeah!
Lapis and Lazuli, Seto sure has his hands full with 2 kids, though who is the wife or are they adopted? How old is Mokuba now?
To answer quickly, they aren't adopted. Wife will be revealed later (when I settle on a pick). As for the ages… we'll get back to that.
Any other legacy characters like Yugi, Joey later?
Oh 100%.
Lazuli I can see the potential for the alien synchros though would Sho be targeted because of his rare cards?
Oh, this I can answer. There will be synchro for other characters. What they will be depends.
As for Sho being targeted… who knows~
Other counter cards include predator counters from predaplants, cubic counters from cubic.
Huh. I'll have to look into them! Thanks for the suggestions!
How many years later is this from Jaden?
So, this is going back to the Mokuba question. The answer?
…Please don't ask me for specific dates and times. My brain can't handle keeping track of all that. To put in a simple term… the main characters you know and love? Adults. They're all adults. And that works for me!
Will it be explained how synchro and tuners came to be? The creation of the first Ener D reactor?
For synchro and tuners, it'll be next chapter where I explain an understanding as to HOW they came to be.
As for Ener D reactor… I had to look up what it was to refresh my memory… Probably not gonna go into that.
Later on fusion and ritual tuners even in the future they have for cyberse one ritual tuner. Only one fusion tuner in existence also.
I have no clue. It'll depend on how the story goes but… I highly doubt it? Because tuners in general are going to be rather rare cards? They hold an ability no other monster can do.
Any other types like illusion type, cyberse or even rush duel cards as well?
Illusion and Cyberse? …Depends? Don't know much about them so I can't say for sure. It all depends on whether a deck in the story works for them.
But Rush Duel Cards… Very high chance of no.
…
And there you go! I answered what I could!
If I were to do a response section again, I might try and stylize it differently? But overall, proud of how this went.
But yeah! Don't expect me to keep doing chapter posts like this. My mind is an enigma, and it writes whenever I feel like it.
Also, I want to say thank you to pokemonking0924 for the card suggestions! I've been seriously considering them and do plan on using some! Some I've already had planned but yeah! Thank you so much! And I'm excited to hear even more!
Anyways, back to the chapter talk! Yeah, for those wondering… no. Bradford isn't going to be coming back like Chet. I want to make SOME one-shot characters as opponents cause… otherwise this story would be bogged down with characters.
Next chapter, we're going over where Sho got his Synchro and Tuner from as well as going into the next big duel between him and Lapis!
But… that's all for now! Until next time! See you all later!
