I didn't get any reviews for the first chapter but it's fine, I'm not the same person I was a few years ago: I won't demand reviews and I won't begrudge anyone for not reviewing.
Besides I'm already used to getting no reviews, anyways.
You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verse
MARK POV
The Next Morning
I wake up, smiling as I see Addison sleeping.
She looks like an angel.
"Good morning, Red," I place kisses on her neck, her nose and her lips.
"Good morning, Mark." she groggily replies.
"Did you sleep well?" I ask.
"I did." She turns to her side, covering herself with the covers of the bed.
I decide to let her sleep longer and instead focus on our son, walking into his nursery.
"Daddy!" Steven squeals, standing up in his crib.
"Hi, buddy!" I pick him up and envelope him in a hug, "Let's get you your bath."
Steven frowns, "No bath!"
"Bud, you have to get clean," I try to reason with him, "How about we eat breakfast in front of the TV after you take a bath?"
Steven thinks, "Okee!"
I scoop him up and bath him, then I make him a bowl of cereal and set it in front of the TV where SpongeBob SquarePants plays.
After he's all done and playing with his toys I walk back into our bedroom where Addison still has the covers over her head and lay in the bed with her for two hours.
"Time to wake up sleepyhead," I whisper, "It's almost noon."
"But I'm tired!" Addison whines.
"I know what will wake you up," I smirk while playing with the drawstring of her pjs.
As we sit in chairs on the back porch afterwards, there's some awkward silence for a couple of minutes until Addison pipes up.
"Mark, babe?" She asks.
"Yes, Red?"
"Why did you break up with Lexie?" There's the million dollar question.
"Hmm—" I start recalling our breakup.
"Mark," Lexie says, "I'm sorry but I can't do this anymore."
"Can't do what?" I question, confused.
"I can't keep up the stepmother and future step-grandmother act any longer." Lexie sighs.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying I can't be a mother figure to your daughter and potentially help raise your grandson."
"Why are you doing this?"
"Your child is nearly the same age as me, do you know how uncomfortable it makes me whenever people judge me for dating a man who's almost 20 years older than me and who's daughter is almost the same age as me?"
I stand up, "I can't believe you, Lexie!"
"I love you Mark, but I just can't do this anymore." Lexie looks at the floor.
"If you don't want to share my life with me," I turn towards the door of her bedroom, "Then we shouldn't be together."
"Goodbye to our relationship, Mark." I leave her bedroom and Meredith's house.
At that moment, I realize there's only one person I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Addison.
"You then decided—" Addison starts, but I cut her off.
"I wanted to be with you," I hold her hand, "Yes."
"Wow, I—"
"I never stopped being utterly and madly in love with you."
"Mark," Addie says, "I don't know what to say."
"Addie," I put my finger on her lips to get her to stop talking, "You don't have to say anything." I then continue, "We never should've got a divorce in the first place and I never should've let you go to LA by yourself.
"Mark—"
"I'm still talking," I kiss her lips before continuing, "None of those girls I hooked up with or dated after our divorce, I had feelings for."
"You had to have felt something for Lexie though, right?" Addison asks.
"Well yes, I had some feelings for her but nothing compared to what I have for you." I kiss the top of her head, "I will never love anyone the way I love you."
I stand up and walk back inside to check on Steven who is now asleep in his crib, leaving Addison surprised at me pouring out my heart to her.
Emma walks down the stairs wearing in her pyjamas and yawns.
"Good afternoon, Emma," I kiss her forehead.
"Good morning, Dad," She says before she covers her mouth in shame, "Mark. Good morning Mark."
"Hey," I raise my hands up, "You can call me dad if you want."
"Okay," Emma smiles, "Dad."
"So, how are you feeling?" I question.
"Exhausted," she puts her hand on her mouth and yawns, "The baby has kept me up all night with the kicking."
"Here," I gently grab her hand and carefully take her to the back porch, "Come sit down with us."
Emma nods, sitting in the chair next to her mother who's now in the middle of us.
"Has anything exciting happened, Emma?" Addison asks her daughter.
"Well," Emma starts, "I'm going out with Pete, I talked to him about my feelings and now he asked me on a date."
"Pete, the guy with the needles?" I question with a raised eyebrow, "Him?"
"Oh, Mark!" Addison playfully punches me, "Let her have fun!"
"Alright," I agree, "You can have fun but if he hurts you, he's going to have to deal with me."
"He's a good guy!" Emma protests, "I don't think he will hurt me."
"Just in case he does, I will deal with him."
A couple of hours later, I'm sitting outside with a bone dry cappuccino in hand when my phone rings.
I pick it up, asking, "Hello?"
"Hello Dr Sloan," Richard's booming voice comes on.
"Dr Webber," I question, "What is going on?"
Richard begins, "When are you coming back from LA?"
"I don't know yet." I say nonchalantly.
"We need to work out things."
I think about it for a while, then pick the phone back up.
"I quit my job at Seattle Grace for the time being and I am staying here in Los Angeles." I answer.
So Mark quit his job in Seattle, what will happen next?
