"Well, while everyone is thinking about that." Scott said. "I'll make my report. I had pretty much ruled out Sinister as a suspect because he's always focused on our family lines." He indicated himself and Jean. "And what our genes could produce. But I double checked anyway. During the time period in question he didn't leave England. So unless he was working through someone else, with some other goal, it probably wasn't him."

"Which relieves my mind, at least somewhat." Jean said. "It means Sinister at least, probably isn't going to take any interest in them."

"Yeah, it would give us all even more incentive to kick his ass around the block a few times." Logan muttered.

"I also checked into this Initiative group that Mr. Harris mentioned." Scott continue, trying to maintain some professionalism in light of learning of the existence of a previously unknown sort of stepson. "They've been active off and on since WW II and their mission statement, like with the Weapon Program, changes according to the mood of whoever's in charge. In WW II, intelligence determined that Hitler's interest in the occult had led to him discovering the existence of demons."

"Bad enough he knew mutants existed and his scientists did some nasty stuff with them." Logan interjected.

"In the case of vampires and demons they apparently intended to use them against allied troops." Scott replied. "The Initiative group working in Sunnydale was using control chips implanted in their brains that fired off pain signals in an effort to control them."

"Figures, too many people can't just leave well enough alone." Logan said disgustedly. "Basically the same thing the Nazis wanted, weapons."

"Yes." Scott agreed. "And for now the Initiative does seem to be shut down. The Army division that was working with them has gone in a different directions, hunting demons and exterminating them."

"The Weapon Project had a period of wanting to exterminate mutants too." Logan added. "These kind of groups always seem to swing back and forth between the two extremes."

"But the good news is, the Initiative wasn't active during the time frame in question and if they were involved in these kids creation would have taken an interest in Mr. Harris when they became aware of him and the Slayer, Buffy Summers, while they were in Sunnydale. Dr. Maggie Walsh, leader of the Initiative at that time, took a dislike to her and tried to kill her, mostly because she asked too many questions about things Walsh didn't want anyone knowing about, like the demon cyborg project. Which the kids put down, hard."

"Good for them. Nice to know the kid's in the family business of kickin' ass." Logan said cheerfully.

"In fact." Scott said. "None of the known groups or scientists seem to have been active in the area during the time in question. So I went in a different direction. I asked Kitty to put her hacking skills into play. She dug into the kids parents medical records and I can answer the adoption question. No, neither of them were adopted. Cordelia's birth mother, who died when she was three, had something in common with Jessica Harris, who also gave birth to Xander Harris. Both of them made use of the same gynecology clinic for their routine care. The clinic was known as McGregor Gynecology Services and had two doctors on staff. Christopher McGregor and his wife, Annalise. Both were board certified gynecologists, surgeons, fertility specialists and geneticists. Though they only advertised their gynecology services. Both Cordelia's mother and Xander's mother's records show they both had a cyst on their ovaries removed. The timing puts it at less then ten months before each of them was born. They were not pregnant at the time of the procedures."

"It suggests that the procedures were unnecessary." Jean said. "And merely a ruse to impregnate them artificially. They'd be under anesthesia and a pregnancy could be written off as a failure of birth control due to antibiotics."

"I had Kitty dig deeper." Scott added. "Twenty eight other patients of these two doctors also had cysts removed during this time period and reported pregnancies soon after."

"Which suggests Sunnydale may have more created mutants." The Professor said thoughtfully. "It also suggests these two doctors were aware that Cerebro probably wouldn't be able to pick any of them up in a routine scan. Which further suggests, they knew why it wouldn't pick them up."

"Which might be this dimensional portal or the Magic field around the town or a combination of the two." Logan stated. "They set up shop in Sunnydale on purpose, to hide whatever their end goal was or is. Are they still doing this?" He asked Scott.

"No, they're both dead. They were both found dead twenty two years ago. Victims of a wild animal attack. Which is a code used by the corrupt officials in the town for vampire attack." Scott answered. "Their clinic was shut down and their patients went elsewhere. And not the same clinics or doctors. No one bought the practice and here's something else of interest, the entire building burned down the same night they were found. Gas main exploded. The gas lines in Sunnydale are terrible." Scott said sarcastically. "They're apparently very badly maintained as they're constantly leaking and causing hallucinations and explosions. Like the one that blew up the High School." He added.

"Someone found out what they were doing and stopped them and covered it up." Logan concluded. "But doesn't seem to have gone after or exploited the kids. More mysteries. Question, were these two doctors." And now Logan was being sarcastic. "Mutants themselves?"

"Not ones we were ever aware of, but I did find out that they were buried in Sunnydale, if we decide to investigate them." Scott said.

"We should." Jean said. "For all we know, they're DNA was also used. Xander and Cordelia are not related to each other, which relieved them greatly when I told them, but they may be related to some of these other created mutants. We need to find them too. Xander and Cordelia activated in stages and I'm not certain if they activated when they meant to. Cordelia especially, her mental abilities seem to have been forcibly activated. Xander's may have activated prematurely as well, he was under a great deal of emotional stress at the time, it could have had an effect."
