Chapter 21: A Little Surprise

One day at the Sweet Shoppe, Pinkie Pie was organizing some cupcakes.

"And last we have the cupcakes with purple frosting." she said.

Then she stepped back. She had successfully organized the cupcakes in rainbow according to their frosting. She then went to find Mr. and Mrs. Cake, to get further instructions. Then she heard voices coming the back.

She went to the kitchen, and saw Mrs. Cake on the phone.

"Yes, we can do that. When do you need it again? Okay, and what kind of cake do you want?"

Pinkie walked up to her, and Mrs. Cake held up her finger signaling her to wait.

"Yes, a chocolate cake, with yellow frosting, and some accessories. We'll get right on it."

After writing it all down, Mrs. Cake hung up.

"What's going on, Mrs. Cake?"

"We've just got a big order."

Suddenly, the bell rang from the front.

"Oh, I gotta get that. Can you get more supplies from the back?"

"Okey dokey loki."

"Thanks, Pinkie."

Mrs. Cake quickly dashed to the front, leaving the notepad she was writing on. Pinkie went to get the supplies, and on her way back she glanced over at the notepad. But what she saw made her stop.

On the paper was the order, the name said Shining Armor and Cadance and on the part where it said occasion it read, "new baby".

"Shining Armor and Cadance are gonna have a baby!?" she squealed.

She couldn't believe it, that meant her friend Twilight was going to be an aunt.

"I can't wait to tell her!"

Later on, when she was getting ready to go home, Mrs. Cake stopped her.

"Pinkie, I take it you saw our special order?"

"You bet."

"But you see, it's a surprise. You can't tell anyone."

That made Pinkie freeze.

"You mean I have to keep this really exciting and happy news all to myself!?"

Her pupils went small.

That evening Pinkie paced around her room.

"I can't believe this. How am I supposed to keep a secret like this from Twilight? If I tell her I'd be just a...spoiler. Any ideas, Gummy?"

Gummy who was sitting in his cage, just blinked his eyes. Suddenly, her cell phone rang. When Pinkie picked it up she saw that it was Twilight. She nervously answered the phone.

"Oh, hi Twilight."

"Hey, Pinkie. Guess what, Shining Armor and Cadance are coming for a visit in a couple days."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, and I was wondering if you and the other girls could come over tomorrow after school to help me with something?"

"Sure thing. I'll be there."

"Great, see you tomorrow."

When Pinkie hung up, she flopped down on her bed.

At school, Pinkie was struggling a little to keep the secret.

"You must be excited to see your brother and Shining Armor again." Rarity said to Twilight.

"You bet I am. I haven't seen them in a while. They've been on vacation."

"I bet they were pretty busy." whispered Pinkie.

"What was that?" asked Fluttershy.

"Nothing." Pinkie quickly replied.

School went on normally, and when it was over, the girls went over to Twilight's house.

In her room, the girls made welcome baskets for the couple. Twilight, Pinkie, and Fluttershy were making Shining Armor's basket, while Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack worked on Cadance's. Spike was lying on the bed, watching.

"Can't forget this." said Twilight.

She grabbed a small stuffed horse.

"What's that?" asked Fluttershy.

"It's Brutus Force. Shining Armor used to carry it around like a baby." Twilight explained.

The word "baby" made Pinkie freeze.

"Remind me, why are you putting those kinds of things in Shining Armor's basket?" asked Spike.

In Shining Armor's basket, along with Brutus Force, was an ant farm, and a poster of Smash Fortune.

"I thought it would be nice to fill his basket with things he liked when he was younger." Twilight explained.

"How's Cadance's basket going?"

"It's almost done, darling." said Rarity.

In Cadance's basket was shower gel, lotion, a bag of her favorite candy, and a new hairbrush.

"I can't wait to see their faces when they see them."

"It'll be nice to see them again." Rainbow Dash mentioned.

"Yeah, haven't seen 'em since they got hitched." Applejack replied.

"I wonder if they'll bring any surprises?" Spike wondered.

"Maybe." replied Twilight.

Pinkie twitched, it was hard to keep this secret.

"Pinkie? Are you okay?" asked Twilight.

"What, oh I'm fine. I just..."

Suddenly her phone rang.

"Gotta answer my phone."

She answered it, and it was her mom. After she hung up, she told her friends that she had to go, because her mom needed her help. Normally she would've been sad to leave her friends, but this time she was relieved.

At her house, Pinkie ended up helping her sisters and mom with some cleaning.

"Thank you girls for helping me." Cloudy Quartz said.

"No problem, Mom." Pinkie replied.

As Marble was putting some things away she came across something. She pulled out a book, and showed it.

"Look." she whispered.

Limestone took the book, and saw that it was their family album.

"Hey, I haven't seen this in years." she said.

She opened it, and found the page that held their baby pictures.

"Aw, we were so adorable." replied Maud in her monotone voice.

When Pinkie saw the photos she froze, it made her think of the secret, and she couldn't spill it.

"Pinkamena, are you okay?" Cloudy Quartz wondered.

"I'm fine. I'll just take this book and we can go back to cleaning."

Pinkie quickly took the book from her sister, put the book to the side, and continued cleaning. This surprised her family, but they went back to work anyway.

That night, Pinkie paced around her room.

"Okay, Pinkie. Shining Armor and Cadance will be coming tomorrow. Which means I'll only have to keep this secret a little while longer." she told herself.

She then turned off the lights, and went to bed. In her dreams, she saw babies everywhere. Baby animals, baby plants, even her friends as babies.

The next morning, Pinkie was hoping school would go by quickly. She manage to get through her classes, and keep the secret when she was around Twilight. When school ended, they all walked out of the building.

"So, Twilight ready to see Shining Armor and Cadance today?" Pinkie asked.

"Actually, they called last night and told us that they may not be here for another two days." Twilight told.

Pinkie couldn't believe her ears, she'd have to keep this secret even longer?

"What!? Are you serious!?" she cried.

This surprised the others.

"Uh, I mean okay."

"Pinkie is something wrong?" wondered Fluttershy.

"Uh..."

"You seem to be holding something back, darling." Rarity told her.

"Well..."

"If you're keeping something secret, you don't have to you can tell us." Rainbow Dash offered.

Pinkie began to sweat, and looked nervous.

"Go on, tell us." urged Applejack.

"You'll feel better." Twilight replied sincerely.

As Pinkie looked at her friends with understanding looks, her nerves began to unravel.

"All right, the truth is..."

Before she could say anything more a familiar voice called out to them.

"Hello, ladies."

The girls turned their heads, and saw Shining Armor and Cadance.

"Hi, girls."

Pinkie was so relieved when she saw them, she collapsed on the ground.

"You okay, Pinkie?" asked Fluttershy.

"Oh, I'm fine." she said.

"Shining Armor, Cadance you made it on time." Twilight said happily.

"Yeah, turns out our plans changed, and we got here as scheduled. So we decided to surprise you and pick you and your friends up." Shining Armor explained.

The girls squealed happily, and hurried to their vehicle.

As they drove down the street, they happily chattered while Pinkie stayed quiet.

"By the way Cadance, why are you wearing that sweatshirt?" Twilight wondered.

Cadance was wearing a black sweatshirt, which was odd since it was warm outside.

"Oh, I just feel a little chilly." Cadance replied.

"Well as soon as we get home, I've got a surprise for you two."

"Oh really?" replied Shining Armor knowingly.

When they got to Pinkie's house, Shining Armor stepped out of the car along with her.

"Just gotta check the tires, I think I might've run over something. Can you help me real quick, Pinkie?"

"Sure."

The two crouched down, and Shining Armor whispered,

"Judging by how quiet you've been I'm guessing you found out about our call to the Cakes?"

Pinkie just smiled sheepishly, and blushed.

"I'm impressed you've been able to keep this secret so long, since you're one of Twily's best friends."

"Does this mean you're gonna tell her now?" Shining Armor quickly shushed her.

They listened, and realized that the others had not heard her.

"You're going to have to wait a little longer. But don't worry, it won't be much longer."

"It better not." Pinkie whispered.

The next day, the girls met up after school.

"So did Shining Armor and Cadance like their surprises?" asked Applejack.

"You bet, you should've seen their faces." Twilight said.

Last night Cadance was happy with her basket, and when Shining Armor saw his, it was like he turned into a little kid again.

"So Twilight...how are Cadance and Shining Armor doing?" Pinkie wanted to know.

"They're fine, but they said they wanted to tell me something at the Sweet Shoppe today."

"Oh really?" wondered Rarity.

"Yeah, but they want us to pick up a couple things first."

She then took out her phone, and looked at the notes.

"Come on, we gotta get to the store."

And off they went.

They went to a grocery store, and started shopping.

"Okay, we need to get some mini water bottles, some mini hot dogs, and mini popsicles." told Twilight.

"Well let's get on going." urged Pinkie.

"What's the rush, Pinkie?" Applejack asked.

"Just...really want to see what the surprise is."

The girls left it at that, and grabbed the items. Once they had everything, they went to the Sweet Shoppe.

At the Sweet Shoppe, the girls saw that not only Shining Armor, Cadance, and Mr. and Mrs. Cake were there, but Night Light, Twilight Velvet, and Spike too.

"Hey, Twily did you get the stuff?" asked Shining Armor.

"Yep, though I'm curious, are we having a party?" Twilight wanted to know.

"Yes, but we're celebrating is the surprise." Cadance told her. Pinkie began to tremble and sweat.

"What is it?"

"Well the things we asked you to pick up are all small and sorta cute things." Shining Armor explained.

"I guess so."

"So what else is small and cute?" Cadance wanted to know.

Twilight thought for a little while, and Pinkie kept twitching.

Then it hit Twilight. "

(Gasps), wait a minute. Are you guys...?"

The young couple looked at each other. And the Cadance took off her sweatshirt to reveal that she had a little baby bump.

"We're having a baby!" the two announced.

That's when Pinkie exploded.

"A baby! They're having a baby Twilight! Hooray!" she cheered.

"So I'm gonna be an aunt?"

Her family nodded. And then she hurried up to the couple and hugged.

"This is so exciting, I can't wait to see the baby."

"Neither can we." replied Shining Armor.

Everyone then began celebrating and congratulating the couple. Then Shining Armor and Cadance went up to Pinkie.

"Thanks for keeping the secret, Pinkie Pie." Cadance told her.

"Oh, it was no problem, honest." Pinkie replied.

But behind her back she had her fingers crossed.
