The path to their refugee was one in silence. They always preferred it that way, both of them thinking of their current situation, pondering how to best get by in their nightmare reality. Starlight glanced for a brief moment at the hat of Apple Bloom, returning her face to its original position and frowning. That hat always reminded her of times that she craved to leave behind…
-"Run, Starlight! Run!"
-"Starlight, we have to fight them now!"
-Ah, home sweet home- Exclaimed Apple Bloom with a cheerful grin, admiring the enormous building in front of her. Starlight left her trance and mimicked the actions of her partner.
-Where it all began for them. One of the most dangerous places in Equestria- The unicorn said with a melancholic tone, remembering better days. The redhead looked at her sideways with some sadness, remembering herself one of the members who faced destiny that magical day, so long ago.
-It really is ironic, because now it's our refuge- Said plainly, resuming her walk. Her companion did the same. They didn't had to walk that far to see two guards armed with spears warily guarding one of the secondary doors of that great structure. However, as they got closer, those firm gazes softened when they saw the two individuals approaching them.
-Miss Apple Bloom! Madame Glimmer!- A Pegasus greeted affably, while his terrestrial companion smiled broadly- Are you two well?
-Better than ever, comrades- Answered the redhead; stretching her left arm- A little exercise is way easy for us.
-Yes! Ma'am, will we do the Everfree routine tomorrow?- Questioned the terrestrial guard, his voice packed with energy. That enthusiasm soon inspired Apple Bloom, who grinned lightheartedly.
-You bet. I want y'all ready, we'll check all the traps y'all set today- Her voice acquired that crispiness, that authority it had in Ponyville, mixed now with a motivated tone. The two guards raised their right hand to her forehead, making a military salute.
-We'll do, ma'am!
Apple Bloom and Starlight left the guards behind and entered the certainly neglected but now inhabited structure.
-So, Starlight, how did it go?- Asked the redhead. The unicorn raised her left eyebrow- You told me that you'd reveal me your grand finding once we got home- She smirked with sassiness- And what would y'know, we're home, so spit it out already.
-Dear Celestia, you're so eager, Apple Bloom- The redhead said nothing, wanting impatiently- I got quite a few interesting things this time that I'll share once we are with the others- The terrestrial whistled softly with her tongue.
-I hope so- She warned promptly. Starlight rolled her eyes and huffed in exasperation.
-When was the last time I said something that didn't turn out to be true?- That question made Apple Bloom frown.
-You told me you would go into the library and be out in less than an hour...
-...
-...
-Things got… a little complicated on my way out of the castle- The unicorn excused herself with a proud tone, while the redhead exhaled with reluctance.
-Right- She adjusted the rifle on her back- Let's go, they've been waiting for us long enough.
-Alright.
The corridors were full of dust and even cobwebs, the paint and decoration on the walls were worn out. The oil lamps barely provided some dim lighting, a detail that Starlight noticed.
-We should refill them with oil- The redhead turned her orange orbs in the direction of the lamp.
-Tomorrow- she agreed plainly, sentencing that decision. But the purple-haired unicorn raised an eyebrow with a mocking expression.
-I see, age is already slowing you down- The mockery didn't go pass the terrestrial, who answered with a click of her tongue as she opened the last door of the corridor.
-You'd wish, old hag- She adjusted the hat on her head- Soon you won't even be able to get out of your chair- Added with a challenging look. The environment around them became much more lively and bustling, with dozens of voices going around them. Starlight took a quick look at that atmosphere, seeing numerous people living together, exchanging words and supplies. A warm feeling invaded her heart while a gesture of tranquility took over her face, catching the attention of her companion- You like what you see, don't ya?
-Hmm? But of course, I'm just glad to see that the atmosphere is so nice around us considering our reality- Exclaimed the lilac eyes unicorn. The redhead then understood the brief reverie that her partner showed, so she shared her gesture.
-As long as we don't lose hope, this place will keep working- Remarked the terrestrial with confidence and determination.
-I know, Apple Bloom, it's just that...
She fell silent, preferring to keep her pessimistic thoughts to herself, not wanting to also make her companion moody. However, the redhead composed a worried expression on her face, clearly showing that she had failed in her goal.
-Hey girls!- The two turned around, seeing an individual approaching them with one hand raised, greeting them. Both returned the gesture with a smile, recognizing him instantly. His striking purple, scaled skin was what generally identified him. He was of considerable height, if she remembered correctly, he was over two meters tall. His emerald green eyes shone brightly, while his short hair of the same color matched his orbs. He wore a purple short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. Finally, his marked muscles stood out in his clothes, as he carried a large bag in his back with one hand.
-Well, well, well, if it isn't our favorite dragon- Starlight exclaimed in complicity and with a friendly expression. The alluded widened the smile on his lips, somewhat sheepishly.
-My favorite unicorn.
-Oh my, am I your favorite unicorn? What about-
-Alright, alright, you got me- The dragon smirked teasingly- My second favorite unicorn.
-Tch, you jerk.
-What do you have there, Spike?- Inquired Apple Bloom, curiously. He took the bag out of his back and raised it a little higher than his stomach.
-Fifteen kilos of flour- Both the terrestrial and the unicorn shared a glance before returning her eyes to the dragon, with the unicorn raising an eyebrow, skeptical of the answer.
-Why are you carrying fifteen kilos of flour?- The dragon clicked his tongue.
-Because I'm a flour lover, of course- The witty response made him and Apple Bloom share a small giggle.
-So funny, Spike- The aforementioned cleared his throat
-Pumpkin asked me for ingredients for a cake she's planning to make- Starlight's pupils contracted slightly when she heard that.
-Hmm? That interests me- The redhead indicated honestly.
-Speaking of which- The unicorn removed the backpack from her back, bringing it to the front and attracting the attention of the other two individuals- I'll show you what made the delay worth it- She mentioned, referring to Apple Bloom, who crossed her arms.
-I'm starting to hope your reason is just good enough to allow me to kick your ass- The redhead warned seriously. Spike let out a small groan, remembering the mission of the two individuals in front of him.
-Right! How did it go today?- The dragon inquired with intrigue, somewhat anxious to know the conclusion of the two partner's initiative- Did you get the thing?- The unicorn remembered the important object she was carrying in her backpack, the objective and central point of her trip to the library. Her pupils contracted in some panic, remembering how she threw the backpack to the side in her fight against them.
-Uh...
-What?
The unicorn chose to find a better place to take that backpack and unpack everything. She saw an empty table and quickly approached the piece of furniture, followed closely by her two companions.
-Hmm I think I better start to stretch my limbs- Said Apple Bloom. The purple-haired unicorn began to extract everything she was carrying in that bag, being observed now in silence by the terrestrial and the dragon. The latter saw one of the cans that now rested on the table. He took it and read the contents.
-Chocolate pudding- His eyes shone brightly- By Celestia, chocolate!- He shouted with energy and a huge smile, as if he were a little kid in front of a sweet. The redhead's pupils also contracted, stunned.
-What!? Let me see that!- The dragon carefully threw the can at her- By all that's holy, it's true!- She turned her gaze to Starlight with a good-humoredly expression- Would you look at that? You were right, you slug- The reaction of the unicorn was null, worrying her companions as she was searching her backpack- Starlight?
-Starlight, are you okay?- Spike asked somewhat anxiously, seeing the lilac eyes apparent frenetic search. The terrestrial and the dragon exchanged a glance before turning their attention at the unicorn, with the redhead placing a hand on her shoulder.
-What do you have there?- The lilac-eyed mare held a copper object in her hands. A trembling smile hung on her lips, while a feeling of relief ran through every fiber of her body.
-It's not damaged...
Apple Bloom smiled broadly when she saw that object. Spike imitated her action shortly after.
-The coil- The green-haired dragon said plainly with some dazzle. Starlight smiled with confidence.
-It's time to turn the radio on again.
