A New Beginning - Chapter One
Quick summary to know what's going on:
Two years have passed since the events of DSOD. Yugi has taken ownership of his grandpa's game shop. His best friend Joey Wheeler and his sister Serenity got an apartment and work at Yugi's game shop.
It's 5:00 am in the morning, Yugi is outside the front entrance of his game shop sweeping. He never understood why his grandpa did this, his grandpa always told him that he wants to give his customers a good impression so they know it's a good place to shop at.
"You're up early Yug," a familiar voice coming from up beside him. "The shop is open till 6:00, isn't it?"
"Hey Joey," Yugi replies in excitement. "I just want to make sure everything is in tip top shape before opening time."
Joey simply nods in understanding. It's been two weeks since Yugi became the new owner of his grandpa's shop, and Joey and Serenity have only been working there for a few days.
"So Joey, how are you and Serenity liking your new apartment?" Yugi asks.
"Oh it's great, we both love it!" Joey replies. "Serenity is still asleep at the apartment, so she'll be here in a little bit." Joey informs.
"That's good," Yugi replies. "Glad to hear you both are doing alright."
After a few minutes of chatting, Yugi's grandpa comes out through the front entrance.
"Good morning Joseph," says Solomon as he's greeting Joey. "You're up bright and early."
"Morning Gramps." Joey replies. "I thought I could surprise y'all by being early for once, but I guess Yugi beat me to it."
All three of them laugh. A few minutes later, Serenity drops in.
"Good morning everyone!" Serenity says.
"Good morning!" Everyone replies.
"I still can't thank you enough for giving me and my brother a job here, Yugi." Serenity says.
"No need to thank me at all," Yugi replies. "You and your brother are like family. How can I say no to both of you."
"Well guys," Joey informs everyone. "The game shop opens in twenty minutes so we better get ready for opening time."
"Alright," Yugi replies "I just need to finish up sweeping and I'll be right in."
Everyone replies with an okay and goes on in.
After five minutes of sweeping, Yugi starts to head back inside. But before he grabs the doorknob, he stops to notice the young woman that just opened up the small building next to his shop. Her name was Chiharu Taiyou. She was a year older than him and she had short black hair and purple eyes. She was a short lady, probably as tall as Serenity, and she wore a white and blue shirt with a black shirt over top of it and blue jeans. She wears a green colored apron around her waist, but only when she's working. She owns a bakery called Apron Strings that opened up a week before Yugi became the new owner of his grandpa's game shop.
Chiharu turns around and sees Yugi outside his shop. "Good morning Yugi!" Chiharu says in excitement.
"G-good morning Chiharu!" Yugi timidly replies slightly blushing.
"Are you ready for another big day?" Chiharu asks.
"Yep. Me, Joey, and Serenity are getting ready for another big day." Yugi responds, still slightly blushing.
"Joey and Serenity?" Chiharu asks, curious about who he's talking about.
"That's right, you haven't met them yet" Yugi immediately realizes. "They're my new employees, I'll have to introduce them to you later this afternoon."
"Okay." Chiharu says. "I'm happy to see you have someone to help you."
"Oh u-uhm, th-thanks." Yugi replies blushing even more, but not enough to be noticed.
"Well, I better get inside before the bread in oven gets burnt." Chiharu says.
"Okay, I'll see you this afternoon." Yugi says.
"Okay, bye Yugi." Chiharu says as she turns to leave for her bakery.
"Bye Chiharu" Yugi replies.
As Chiharu is walking to her bakery, Yugi can't help but keep watching her. As soon as Chiharu goes inside her bakery, Joey shows up out of nowhere and says "She's cute!"
"Gaahhh, don't scare me like that." Yugi shouts as if he was about to jump out of his skin.
"So Yug, who was that cute girl, is she your girlfriend?" Joey asks, ignoring Yugi's words.
"N-no, she's just a friend." Yugi replies as he starts to blush even more intensely than before.
"Your face says otherwise buddy." Joey says, being a little suspicious of his friend.
"I'm serious, nothing is going on, I swear." Yugi replies, trying his best to convince his friend.
"Oh well," Joey simply says unconvinced. "It's almost time to open up so go get ready."
"Alright." Yugi says, still blushing.
Yugi and Joey head on inside the shop, but not before Yugi would flip the sign on the door to say 'Open'.
And with that this chapter is done. This is my first ever fanfic, I hope you like it and stay tuned till chapter two. Now I would like to explain a few things. First, this fanfic will center around the manga more than the animé. Second, I'll be using the English names of all known characters. I'm doing this because I'm used to referring to them by their English names despite this fanfic taking more after the manga. Third, there will be no Peachshipping in this fanfic at all. Now for that last one, I can explain. I love the Yugi x Téa ship, but I thought it was too basic and common. So I decided to try something different. The last thing I have to explain is the OC. One thing I've known about OC's in Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfics is that most times they're a duelist. So I wanted to try something unexpected. Anyway, that's all I have to say about this fanfic. Until chapter two comes out, please review and let me know if I made any grammar errors so I can fix them for any future stories.
