Chapter 38: The Wolf's Snare
Techno music blares on the stage as the dancer puts on her act. She's dressed as the bad cop, another girl dressed in a farm girl attire played the roll of the bad girl. The two dance sexily as everyone watches and cheers.
"I really don't see why we had to meet here, couldn't we have met somewhere that's properly clothed?" Joo Kwan sipped her water "It's just as good as any other place" Sunny chuckled "It's a bit more exotic, consider yourself lucky that you're sitting down here and not dancing up there".
"Right, I should consider myself lucky" she snarked "You said that you had someone who could be of use to me" Sunny mentioned "Right, it's actually two of them, I'll bring them over" Joo Kwan waved at two people waiting at the bar. One was male and the other was female. The female was Asian like herself but was a little shorter than Sunny herself, she had her fair share of tattoos some resembling Japanese artwork on her arms and forearms. Her hair was auburn brown and in dreadlocks tied into a ponytail. She looked two years younger than Sunny. She wore a tank top that had a bunch of Romanji characters on the front. The male next to her looked was rather buff, he looked like an athlete. Hell, she thought, maybe he was one. He looked Hispanic with a mixture of European. He looked rather intimidating. His hair was slicked back, giving him more of a professional appearance. He had no tattoos or anything on his skin whatsoever. He wore what looked like a polo shirt and khaki pants. This should be interesting Sunny thought.
"Okay," Joo Kwan introduces the lady first "this is Kimberly Yamazaki. She was in your friend's-" "Ex best friend" Sunny corrects "Right, ex best friend's gang and she struck out on her own. She's been doing freelance work for us here and there, this was sometime before you came back, if you need someone holding a gun then she's the one" Joo Kwan gave her the whole resume "It's Kimmy by the way," the new associate extended her hand for a shake "I finally get to meet you" "You know about me?" Sunny was taken aback "Yeah, Kenny mentioned you a few times" "Bet none of it good" Sunny rolled her eyed "Some good, some bad; I just think you're a bad ass" Kimmy praised "Uh thanks, so are you as good as they say? With a gun, I mean?".
Kimmy pulled out her Ruger SR1911 "Yeah...I'm always ready". Sunny smirked "Well I'm always looking for someone I could use for certain jobs, can I count on you if we pull something off?" "Trust me, my amateur days are behind me" "Okay, welcome to the club then".
"And this here is Rico Bravo" Joo Kwan introduced "Ola" he introduced himself "Rico is from Brazil, he used to be in the Brazilian army for a few years and then went independent".
"Hmm that sounds useful" Sunny looked at him.
"Do you speak English? Or do I need to pay for a translator to accompany you?"
"Yeah I speak English" he spoke "Joo Kwan said that you were in the military, you're just like Chelsea then" "I don't know who that is but yeah I was in the army".
"What did you do?" Sunny asked "I was a paratrooper but my main job was sniper work" he tells "Are you good with...hot situations? You know, crazy?".
"It's nothing that I can't handle" he answered "Okay then, welcome to the team".
"We'll call you when we have a job lined up, until then enjoy the show" Sunny showed them over to the nearby area for a lap dance.
As their new crew members were getting the time of their lives, Sunny looked at Joo Kwan "So have you heard from our mutual acquaintance...? Has anything popped up?" she asked "From what I heard he's taken over the office, certain people in the community are paying more" Joo Kwan had disdain on her face "He's basically flooding everything with his poison" she sighed "Is there anyway that we can get to him?" Sunny wondered "I think it'd be impossible since he has twenty four security; bodyguards and whatnot. He really is a paranoid person". Sunny sighed "What about the other?" "That I don't know, he's gone into hiding; where, I don't know. He could still be in Little Seoul but no one really knows for sure exactly".
She sighed "If you're going against them, then I wouldn't do anything just because we don't know how volatile things could" Joo Kwan suggested "Plus nobody wants to loose you". Sunny looked at the drink in front of her, her mission of revenge would have to be put on hold for the time being. "Things will get settled, when the time is right then we'll strike" Joo Kwan suggest "I guess so" Sunny reluctantly agreed "It's nice that you found us talent, we could use all the help we need".
"What is it that you're doing exactly? I'm not trying to pry" Joo Kwan wondered "Jobs, things that make us money" Sunny vaguely answered "That's not much really to go on" "Things that go bang" Sunny mentioned the word bang "Fine, I'll drop it".
Joo Kwan looked at the dancers as they did their business "I never really imagined being in a place like this, makes me feel weird" she uncomfortably squirmed "Come on, you got to loosen up a bit" Sunny encouraged "Being in a strip club full of scantly clad women and horny men is not my idea of loosening up" "Okay, okay I get it, you're such a worry wart" Sunny chuckled "I can't believe you co own this place".
"Well believe it, I know it seems weird but we managed to turn over profits in this place" Sunny sipped her club soda "With everything that's going, I think we needed sometime to relax" "Don't we all" Joo Kwan sighed "There's an office in the back, so you don't feel uncomfortable; would that make you feel better?" Sunny playfully asked "That's all you had to say" Joo Kwan got up and saw a sight that made her sigh "Oh god" "What?". She pointed to the stage.
Chelsea had snuck into the dressing and found a surfer girl get up. She started dancing to a techno beat. Her dance routines were slightly off but people still cheer her on. It's only when when she took off her top that things got crazy, thankfully her nipples were X'ed over with black tape. "Chelsea, get down from there" "What? I'm working" Chelsea smiled as she counted the money from her purple thong "Are you employed here? Huh?" Sunny scolds "Uh I know you, so I guess I am" she shows the money which was almost in the twelve hundred range "No, keep it; ugh" Sunny backed away "Suit yourself". Just then Sunny phone starts to vibrate. She sprints to the entrance. She looked at the number, she didn't recognize the number.
She swipes the app "Hello?".
"S-Sunny? It's Linda". Sunny was surprised that she heard her sisters voice "What do you want?" "Listen, I-I need you to meet up with me", she scoffed "Why? Are you planning on finally arresting me?" "No!" she yelled as if something was wrong "Listen, somebody's after you". Sunny could sense the fright in her voice "What are you talking about? Who?".
"Some people, they're bad; they've been watching you".
Her heart beats with uneasiness "I think I'm being followed...I'm really scared, I just need to meet you".
"O-Okay, where?" "Terminal, Warehouse 54; please get here; I'm really scared" she could hear the shake in her voice "Okay-okay, I'm going".
After hanging up, Sunny scrambled to her car. This didn't feel like a trap but that didn't mean that she would let her guard down.
...
She manages to find the warehouse. Everything was deserted. Sunny felt uneasy. Their was a tense feeling of uncertainty.
Like what if this was all a trap? Or worse, what if Linda decided to finally kill Sunny?
The second one was more likely propitious but it didn't make her stop feeling uneasy.
"Hello?" Sunny called out. Nothing. "Anybody here?" all she got was silence "Well that's very rude".
"GET DOWN! GET ON THE FLOOR!" a voice screams at her as men in tactical gear rush out "GET ON THE FUCKING FLOOR NOW!" Sunny planted herself on the floor I fucking knew it was the first thing that went through her mind. A man with salt and pepper hair along with a mustache comes out out of the shadows, he wore what looked like a detectives badge around his neck. He must be the head honcho she thought. One officer puts her hands over her head and roughly brings her up to her knees "Sun Hi Rhee" the detective called Sunny by her full name "What do you want?" she asked "I'm Detective Victor Wolf, Los Santos Police Department; we have a warrant for your arrest; we'll make it go away if you'll help us". Sunny laughed "Look, if this is someone's idea of a joke, and if that's case then I'm not laughing" "This isn't a joke" he sternly looked at her.
"Well let me see the warrant then" she demanded "There is no warrant, not yet at least".
"Look, I've done stupid things as a kid but I'm legit; so I don't think their's any merit for an arrest". Wolf didn't seem to be interested in a plea bargain "You don't happen to know Linda Rhee, would you?", Sunny seemed hesitant to answer "I-I d-don't..." she stammered "Do you know her? Yes or no?" "L-Look, Rhee is a common Korean name; I think you got the wrong person here". That didn't seem to satisfy Wolf "Okay, we're going to have to do this the hard way" he motioned to bring the leverage over "What are you...?".
Two officers bring over a woman with a sack over her head and her hands tied behind her back. Her physique looked familiar. "Who is...?". They force her onto her knees. Wolf then pulls the sack off. Sunny's eyes widen in her horror as Linda, bound and gagged, was staring at her with fear in her eyes. "What the fuck?! You son of a bitch!" Sunny tried to run towards her sister but she was slammed onto the ground "Let her go you fuck!" she struggled to get free "So, how do you two know each other?" the detective looked at her, Sunny remained defiant and didn't say anything "Hmm, maybe this will jog your memory" he pulls out a Glock 17 and points it at Linda's temple "STOP! DON'T! PLEASE!" Sunny pleaded as she starts to cry "Are you going to tell me your relationship to her...? Or do I pull this trigger?". After a moment Sunny finally looks up.
"She's my sister! Okay! Are you happy now?!" she breathes heavily "I knew she wasn't telling me something" Wolf grinned "Guess Officer Rhee wasn't honest after all" he laughed "Your sister here, she's been nosing around, she found certain things she shouldn't have seen. She quit the force and tried to run for it" he explained "Could have jeopardized everything we built".
"Look, I have money! I'll give you whatever you want! Just let her go!" Sunny pleads "I don't care about your money, instead you are going to help us out" he ordered "Certain individuals out there have it out for us. You're going to leave in the next few days to Blaine County, we'll be in contact when you're needed". Wolf walked towards Sunny "If you don't do as you're told, well police officers who die in the line of duty get quite a funeral" his hand lifts her head by her chin to face him "Do I make myself clear?". Sunny snapped and tried to bite him. He was fast. Wolf Smiled, a little pup trying to bite. His hand strikes her across the face. He nodded to two officers. They pull out stun guns. The triggers are pulled and the probes snake their way onto her skin. The electrical currents zap her muscles. Sunny contorts and screams, her tears fall down her face.
Linda screams through her gag and starts too cry herself. If she could yell out her name then she would. Wolf punts Sunny in the stomach. She coughs as she catches a glimpse at her sister. Her tears stream down her face, her desperate plea of 'Save me'. Sunny reaches her hand out. Wolf's foot crushes it with his foot. "Ah! Argh!" she painfully exhaled "We're done here, we'll be in touch" two officers grab Linda and forcibly hoist her up.
Everything get's blurry. Sunny's mind goes dark as she passes out.
It was two hours when she finally woke up. She thought it was a nightmare. But it wasn't.
She picked herself up slowly. Her face was dried with her tears. As loud as she could she screamed. A rageful scream echoes through the warehouse. She let's out mournful cry. It was all those painful memories all over again. And now it's even with a deadlier price too it.
...
Ever since she got home, all Sunny did was run everything that happen in her head. Working for a crooked cop to save her sister. He said that Linda had been snooping around and had found something incriminating. He said that Linda had quit the force and tried to run for it. Sunny thought that maybe that she was planning to warn her but got caught. Now she was caught in a situation that could get the both of them killed.
"God, what am I going to do...?". Blaine County was another world and the only people she knew from that place was Chelsea. She smelled of hillbilly and weirdness. And probably meth, even though she swore she never touched the stuff. She knew her way around the place, maybe it wouldn't be as bad it sounds.
"So I see you got yourself into a bad situation" an unknown voice scares her out of her seat. Sunny turned around and saw an unknown face that she never seen before. He stood there with his arms crossed. He looked young like almost twenty something but she could tell that he may have been older, probably around thirty. He was around six foot one, taller than her or Geraldine and Chelsea. His hair was cut professionally, it was walnut brown and gelled back. He had no facial hair whatsoever, in fact his face was as smooth as marble. No cuts or razor burn, just solid. He wore dark aviator sunglasses, Sunny couldn't see his eyes; it gave him an eerie feeling. A feeling that he didn't look human. He wore a dark gray suit with a matching gray tie. Everything about this person spelled mysterious.
"Who the fuck are you? How did you get into my house?" Sunny was already on edge from before "You don't need to scared" the unknown man spoke softly "Did that scumbag cop who kidnapped my sister send you? Did he decide that he's just going to kill me?" she grabs hold of a knife "No but I know what happened, and I think I can help you".
If Sunny had her gun then maybe she could subdue him but something about him spelled professional.
"My name is Pierce" he introduced himself "I know about that indictment they were talking about," he mentions "you already know that there isn't one and I'm going to make sure that it stays that way". Sunny looked at the man as if he was kidding "I'll put this in simple terms" Pierce looked at her "You and your friends help me and my people out, you don't go to jail for a long time" Pierce proposed "I keep the District Attorney from going after you for an unknown homicide that occurred earlier in the year in the city of a low level drug dealer" Sunny stood there stunned "W-What homicide? I wasn't even here earlier in the year" "Don't worry, the evidence doesn't even exist yet and even if it does go through the prosecutors office, it'll be destroyed before it gets made" he reassured "You need my help". Sunny looked at Pierce, unsure if this was a trick. This man, whoever he was, is making her work for him or else she'll go to jail for a murder that she had no part in.
"Say I help, what do you get out of it?" she questioned "For starters, I know about that friend of yours; the one who fucked you over; I know a few things" Pierce mentioned Kenny "You're bullshitting me" "I'm not, if you're asking for where he is then I can't help you there but I know about his operation".
"Where he manufactures his stuff, they are in certain areas in Blaine County and throughout this city. Not just one specific place". Sunny stared at him with the knife pointed at him "You need to give me an answer" he stares down at his watch "And you need to be quick about it". For a moment there wasn't much of a choice. Sunny knew already that she was backed into a corner. Two different people are going to make her do things for her to fight for her freedom and for the sake of saving the only family that she has left. Like from all those years ago, what choice did she have.
"Okay, you have a deal" "Good".
"I'll be in touch" Pierce walked to the front door and left. Sunny sprints to the door. Oddly enough, he was gone. There was no car or anything, like a ghost he was gone. "Jesus" she breathed "What the hell did I get myself into...?".
Everything felt like a spy novel. It took a bit for her to realize that somebody else behind the scenes were pulling the strings. She wouldn't be in control. Now her fate and the fate of her sister were in the hands of a shadow. He meant well but who knows what agenda he has planned. All she knew for sure, was that she's in something that there's no turning back. She looked at her phone and goes to the person that she's going to have trust for the time being.
"Chelsea? I need to ask you something, Blaine County; how well do you know the place?".
