Chapter 69: Getting The Shaft
The trailer was empty except for Sunny and Geraldine's cat. Chelsea went over to modify her chopper. While Geraldine went to pick up guns that Arnold was delivering for their job. Sunny didn't mind the silence; she found ways to keep busy. She would wander around the place outside. The many other trailers full of nothing or the occasional question from Chelsea's fellow neighbors would ask her of why she was even out in the middle of the desert hellhole known as Blaine. Good question she would always amusingly wondered and shoots back at the question with a sarcastic answer I guess I needed a vacation which in turn made them laugh themselves to tears.
She wandered around when Chelsea first brought her to Blaine. Their wasn't anything else to do except to try to know the place that she would call home for the time being. It wasn't all the usual things of what she heard about Blaine. Some hippies living whatever luddite life they think they'll live. Some people were ordinary just trying to make it. Then comes the real nasty folks that make Blaine for what it is. Bikers from Liberty City. Meth dealers (obviously). Meth users (even more obvious). Militia nuts patrolling for their supposed enemy crossing the border. Gun runners selling to whoever has the money to buy. Blaine was no different than Los Santos or Liberty City. The weak get rubbed out while the vicious and the deadly shred and tear them to bits.
When Sunny wasn't interested in wandering the desert she would keep busy by jogging to keep up her strength. But on many occasions when Chelsea wasn't around she would sneak into her room to see what kind of person Chelsea was. She already found her old army uniform, swim medals and old one piece swimsuit, she wanted to dig deep on who Chelsea was.
Her room was typical of how she was: messy. A bra here-a bra there. Scattered panties. Candy wrappers. Burger wrappers. Socks. Pizza boxes that were caked in cheese and possible were growing mold on them. "God what a fucking mess" Sunny shook her head "Anyone saw your room Chelsea they'd probably have to restrain you while they clean this stuff out". Her bed was at least somewhat clean but that didn't mean Sunny or Geraldine would sleep on it for fear of getting bit by bed bugs or worse have a lice infestation in their hair. Sunny picked up Jesse. Curious of her design, she analyzed the design. It was unique that this rifle was a weapon. It felt and looked like something from a science fiction movie. The fact that Chelsea kept this thing since leaving the Australian army made it seem fascinating that Chelsea would have that sentimentality to her.
Sunny gripped the front handle and took a battle pose. She held plenty of rifles and other guns before but never held a Steyr before. Let alone she never fired that many bullpup rifles before. She squeezes the trigger.
Click!
"Chelsea you got a strange taste in rifles but at least she's battle worthy". Sunny put Jessie down as she began to look through Chelsea's things. Like a cat she was ever more curious. She finds a box that was unmarked. Sunny gently put it on the ground. She opens with caution.
Sunny felt around and felt something smooth and soft. Sunny picked through and pulled out a dress. A white dress to be exact. "A wedding dress?" Sunny looked on how beautiful it was. The sequins and the velvet, it was surreal that someone like Chelsea would have a wedding. She didn't look like a person who would marry someone. Let alone you would need to get used to some of her habits. Sunny folded the dress and set it aside. She dug more and pulled out a small box containing a beautiful wedding ring. Sunny looked at it. Pure and lovely. Their was something etched into the ring.
'Always -Charlie'
"Charlie...?" Sunny whispered in curiosity. Then it hit her; that day they had dinner with her. Chelsea mentioned having a boyfriend but nothing more than it was a long time ago. The fact that this boyfriend had given Chelsea a ring meant a lot. It was strange to know that Chelsea was that close to being married. Sunny pulls out a small picture album that read 'Chelsea & Charlie' . She opened the album. It was stunning to see Chelsea smiling with her significant other. This man if he were around would be in his late twenty's probably. From the pictures showed he had cornflower hair that a male model would have that anyone could comb back. Light lapis blue eyes that anyone would instantly make someone fall in love with him. That smile would melt the iciest heart in the room if it could. He looked fit enough to be an athlete. Everything spelled instant head over heels in love.
In the photos Chelsea looked happy. Really happy. It was strange that they looked like an actual couple. Sunny stared. It reminded Sunny of the way Roberta and her showed their love to one another. Sunny combs through the album; nothing but smiles and love. She then finds a group photo. Their were a few of them. Sunny recognized Chelsea and Charlie but everyone else not so much. Two more women and three other men. Something catches her eye; the individual standing next to Charlie; his face had been scratched off.
You usually would do that if you had hated someone. But Sunny saw what looked like stab markings all over that peculiar individual. Which meant that Chelsea really hated that person with a burning desire to kill. By the looks of it something, whatever it was, must have happened and whatever happened it must be a personal matter to Chelsea. Everything spelled violence and vengeance with the stab markings.
What could have to happened back in Liberty City? And with this photo, why did Chelsea hate this peculiar person?
Chelsea was a mystery to Sunny and Geraldine. Even if Sunny and Chelsea did break the ice sharing their backgrounds about what made them who they were, their were things that Sunny still didn't know about Chelsea. Or Chelsea simply refused to say and would get defensive about it. Before getting her snake bite Sunny remembered how defensive Chelsea got when she asked her about her time in Liberty City. She snapped.
What happened in Liberty? Why don't you want to tell me...?
Sunny packed everything back into the box and put it back in it's original place. She didn't need to give Chelsea a reason to not trust her. She wanted her to tell that side of her story when it's the right time.
She heard the champagne starting to pop on her phone. She quickly went to grab her phone. Pierce's name was on the screen. Sunny swiped the talk app.
"Yeah?" she answered "Hey, we're still trying to find Shafyee but I found one of your friend's labs where he cooks crystal" Pierce says "Where?" Sunny asked urgently "There's an old silver mine just outside of Paleto. Tapped into some reports of Asian men in suits bringing out vans and collecting oil drums".
"Guessing they're not collecting toxic waste for the EPA?" Sunny sarcastically guessed "You guessed correctly, sorry to say your ex best friend and his little mark buddy isn't there but destroying that lab might piss him off to get his attention". Sunny scoffed "Well that's just as good, I'll take some joy in just destroying his shit". As soon as Pierce hangs up Sunny went around to look for a set of keys. Chelsea took her Fugitive and she couldn't use that. Calling a taxi was out of the question. Sunny then remembers that Chelsea had a pick up truck, a Rebel to be exact.
She found the keys for that pick up. Sunny looked at Jessie. It was only for one day and one time that she would borrow something from Chelsea. Hopefully Chelsea won't mind that Sunny borrowed her just for the day. "Chelsea says you're a hell of a girl to have in a fight, so let's put it your money where your barrel is".
Sunny grabbed the magazine clips. She inserts a clip in the chamber and cocks her. Lock and load as they would say.
...
Sunny found the mine. Apparently this mine was bought by an anonymous business man. Really though that supposed 'business man' just flashed some cash to avoid doing paper work and being asked unnecessary questions.
An abandoned mine is perfect. No one would suspect that it could hide a meth lab. Hell, who would look in a creepy looking mine?
Sunny snuck through the entrance. She firstly attached a piece of yarn to mark her way back. It was silly but last thing she wanted to do was get lost in some mine. The darkness made it hard to see. Sunny used the flashlight on her phone to see. Just like any operation, big or small, just follow cat the piss smell of meth.
She kept following the stench. Until she saw the light. Sunny sneaked as quietly as possible.
The smell got stronger. Sunny finally crosses into the lightened area. She quickly hid and observed. This was a big operation. It could probably produces enough meth to supply addicts for a year or more, and just like any operation it was sophisticated.
"Geulsse, dangsin-eun geugeos-eul bol geos-inga...(Well, will you look at that..." Sunny looked as she saw where all the chemicals that were and with the current batch it should be enough to light the place on fire "loma-e gass-eul ttaen (When in Rome)".
As the guards were conservsing amongst themselves Sunny launches her attack.
Bullets tear through them. Now everyone is on alert and aware theirs an intruder "Geunyeoleul gajda! (Get her!)". She quickly ducks behind a rock. Sunny aims Jessie and takes down the first two thugs shooting at her. The way Chelsea's rifle tore through them made them look like ragdolls. It astonished Sunny that this rifle that Chelsea loved and adored was not only her most deadliest weapon, but also her best friend.
She takes another three down all the while hitting drums and chemical sets. More start coming "Oh fuck!" Sunny cursed as she reloads a magazine. She pushed a drum full of whatever chemicals that were in it. It rolls and rolls. Sunny starts to shoot at it as whatever was in there was leaked and caught fire.
Boom!
It explodes sending fragments flying across. Several pieces hit some thugs. A hot piece lands on a puddle of chemicals. Methenamine along with PCP are combined with various chemicals. Mix the wrong ingredients and a potential explosion can happen. And at this second those peculiar pieces have landed in those chemical puddles. A new fire starts quickly and spreads. "Oh shit!" Sunny saw the fire spread, she knew what that meant. She quickly shoots down a thug and runs back back towards the entrance.
The fire starts to spread. Sunny quickly follows the rope "Thank fuck I used this".
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Three loud explosions boom are heard.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Several more booms are heard. Sunny kept running "Shit! Shit! Shit!". She looked back briefly and saw the flames now turned into a ball of inferno and death. And it's rushing straight at her "SHIT!" Sunny's legs increase in speed as she bolts as fast as a rabbit. The entrance is in sight. The flaming death starts to catch up to her.
Out she finally goes and quickly covers her head. A gust of dust and fire burst out.
Sunny got back up and dusted herself off. She looked back at her act of destruction. If she was a science nerd then she would have gotten an A+.
Sunny looked at Jesse, amazed that Chelsea's rife helped her "Well guess Chelsea's bragging about you was right, guess she deserves a reward for having you at her side".
A bullet whizzes' past her. She see's that the cavalry has arrived. " I nal-i neomu wanbyeoghaess-eul ttae! (Just when this day was going so perfect!)" she cursed out as she shoots her attackers dead. Sunny quickly ran back to the Rebel.
She quickly starts it up and speeds off.
Sunny looked back at the rearview. Two truck loads of them are coming up from behind "Oh fuck! Can't they fuck off?". She speeds through traffic with thugs shooting at her. Several strike the Rebel "Oh fuck, Chelsea is not going to like that". Sunny speeds up. She dodges left to right. They're still behind her. Sunny see's a nearby gas station nearby. It was a risk but she may as well take the chance.
She quickly takes a right towards the gas station. Sunny hits the gas. The store workers quickly run out the store as two cars barrel towards the station. The Rebel nearly careens into the station but Sunny manages to control it and makes it through. The car behind crashes into a bollard. The truck's driver gets ejected through the windshield. His bloody head split open. The passengers crawling out of the wreckage.
Sunny looked back through the rearview. The second truck was coming up fast until it caught up to her. It rammed her twice and tried to run her off the road. Sunny in return rams them back. She ends up denting Chelsea's Rebel "Oh fuck, Chelsea is going to be freaking out when she see's this!". She see's a construction crew doing work "Okay get ready for a whole lot of extra work you guys!".
With all her force Sunny rams the truck hard. It crashes into a cement truck. A slew of cement flowed out the mixer and into the truck. They're going to need a new detailing job after today she tells herself.
Sunny kept driving. That was one important meth operation but Sunny figured that sooner or later that she's going to need to do more than just destroy their meth operation. It occurs to her that those two pricks need to be taken down. Problem was though Sunny couldn't take them down with just Geraldine and Chelsea at her side, she knew full well that she needed an army to take them on. And just like her Sunny knew that there might be a few people or so that hate those two arrogant asses. Sunny didn't know where to look but she knew the one person would help her and like her wanted that asshole of a grandson dead as much as her.
It took a while for her to find a liquor store to pull into to get a moment for herself.
"Yeonboseyo? (Hello?)" Joo Kwan answered "Joo Kwan? Naya (It's me)".
"Oh Sunny, where are you? I haven't seen you in a while" Joo Kwan was amazed that she heard from Sunny "Your girlfriend said you're in the desert, I can't believe you're that far out".
"Well I needed to clear my head with everything that happened to us" Sunny says as she pulls a five dollar bill to pay for her soda "Listen I didn't call just to chat" she get's straight to business "Did Park have any other people aside from me or Kimmy Yamazaki do business for him?" she asked "Like other groups?".
"We did but we did it with select groups from the local street gangs, similar to the gang that you and Kimberly belonged to" Joo Kwan states "Why are you asking?".
Sunny undoes the cap "The way I figure it out is this; we gotta take it back" she summarized her idea "You mean...?" "Ye (Yeah): we need to take Little Seoul back".
Sunny takes a swig of soda.
"We're going to need an army if that's the case then" Joo Kwan says with enthusiasm "Uh huh, that's why I was asking if you knew anyone to help out with that".
With a brief pause Joo Kwan returns with some information "I might know some people who have scores to settle with that arrogant snob and some others who might be interested in helping...for the right price". Sunny takes another swig of soda "Tell me you're keeping your ear to the ground"
"I hear from people around, it's rumored that your ex best friend apparently has some enemies of his own. Namely he's being greedy and certain cliques of the gangs that he works with feel like he's not giving them their worth of salt. And theirs's some here to there who just want them out". Sunny threw her bottle away "So we might have potential allies when we're ready then" "Yes" Joo Kwan answered "We'll need them then, send whatever information you can about them when you have it".
They say their goodbyes and hope they can retake what they lost.
...
Sunny walked through the door of Chelsea's trailer. Chelsea and Geraldine were eating pizza as Sunny came through "Geez where'd you go?" Chelsea asked "Yeah girl you just vanished and didn't need tell us" Geraldine looked on how dusty Sunny was "Sorry, had to say goodbye to some old friends" Sunny grimly says.
Chelsea noticed that Sunny had Jesse "Hey, what the hell are you doing with Jesse?".
"Oh I barrowed her just for today, she came quite in handy" Sunny said as she handed Jesse back to her rightful owner. Chelsea eagerly takes her beloved rifle and inspects her for any damage "Thank fuck, theirs no scratches on her".
"Also" Sunny tosses Chelsea her car keys "I borrowed your Rebel, uh it got some dents while they were chasing me"
"Dents? What do you mean dents? What kind of dents?" Chelsea curiously asked "Um well..." Sunny showed her. Chelsea's jaw dropped in shock as she see's the damage to her Rebel. The bullet holes, the blown out rear windows, a side mirror hanging from a thin piece of wire and the many dents and scratches covering the front. "M-M-My car!" Chelsea almost cried "It's not that bad, I'll text the number of a guy who could repair it for you" Sunny tried to in some way to make it up to her "Also FYI you need to get your tires realigned, just a friendly reminder".
Chelsea went over and kicked the right tire in frustration as she just repaired it after that construction job. Then suddenly all four tires popped and the drivers seat door broke off. Now it's going to take another repair job to fix it, Chelsea starts to cry like a fussy little girl. "Goddammit!" she sobs like a ten year old "No! No! No!".
Sunny looked at Geraldine "Tell me you guys still have some pizza left?"
"Yeah we still have some left, we was just waitin' for you to get back" Geraldine leads the way to dinner "I'll tell you everything over pizza, it was a hell of a day".
Chelsea wept and wept. It was hard enough to repair it the first time. Now it was going to need more than just another coat of fresh paint to make it look good.
