Feels like having the 'three new chapters of new story before moving on others' trend in my writings XD. Though it seems some of you guys like this, so thank you.
To Chi Vayne: Well, in J.K's defense, if it happened then we wouldn't have HP like today.
Confusion. Shocked. Terrified. Denial. Depression.
That's mostly what Dumbledore has gone through just minutes after he left the young baby in front of the Dursley house.
After he Apparition himself into the Leaky Cauldron and planned to join the party with the others to celebrate Harry's survival, the Headmaster suddenly felt most of the spells used to track the baby's location and health broke. Baffled, he quickly excused himself and got himself back to the house he just got away from. To his fear, he found no blankets nor the boy in where he placed him, and instead there's a note lying on the doorstep. He quickly picked up and saw a line written on it:
I took him to a better place to live. Don't try finding him. Also his parents would like to defend their friend.
C.
Baffled by the lines, he quickly returns to The Order of Phoenix's hideout and gathered everyone back. Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black were missing however, believed that the latter killed the former and was now being judged in the Ministry of Magic. The Aurors were terrified at the news, and their leader immediately sent them out to try to find the baby, but brought Alastor and Snape with him to the 'supposed trial'. They were lucky to arrive just before Bartemius Crouch Senior delivered the sentence. With the help of Veritaserum from Snape, the Ministry found out the truth from Sirius and thus released him on spot. Dumbledore quickly informed the released Animagus about what happened, and they instantly started the search for the boy.
However, it seemed whoever took the Potter baby did a 'great job' at 'vanishing away' as the whole Order searched for every nook and corner in London and ended up with no simple hints or evidences showing where the baby could be. In the next few days, they started a search in the whole world including the 'Muggle World', but also ended up with no results. For all they can conclude now, Harry Potter was completely disappeared out of the surface of Earth.
…
It's been Christmas, but none in The Order of Phoenix has any feelings to celebrate it. Instead, they're marking every single place they have crossed on the world map and trying to minimize down where they could have missed. They even made attempts at backtracking many places, though that didn't earn them anything.
"Where could he be?" Slamming his hands on the table, Sirius Black shouts in depression. "Even Alastor said there were traces of non-human magic right where Harry was! How couldn't we backtrack it?!"
"Calm down. We're all desperate here, not just you." Lupin sighs as he understands the other Marauder's feeling, but he needs to keep his head cool in order to find a way to find their precious friends' son. "Even the Headmaster couldn't find him…"
"…But, I do hope one thing…" All turn to Dedalus Diggle who's trying to cheer everyone up. "That, whoever holding Harry could give him a good life, right? I mean… the Muggles couldn't really give him all his needs…"
"Then why the secrecy? Shouldn't telling the Headmaster straight-up would be a better idea?" Sirius argues back.
That temporarily drops the sound the room for a moment before it returns as they continue making the plans…
Until Dumbledore and Alastor enter the meeting room. Sirius instantly asks: "Headmaster! Did you find any more clues?"
The latter grunts as he places some broken equipment on the table while the former replies: "Unfortunately no. However, maybe we can think of something from this."
Once everyone sits down properly, Dumbledore explains: "After Harry survived Voldemort's attack…" The name causes the others to slightly shiver. "I have prepared these devices and placed spells in them so they could track Harry's whereabouts. But when I returned back after the next day Harry was kidnapped, most of them were destroyed on their own except one." He points to the only one that's working but not properly. "The only thing that I'm certain to tell from this is that Harry is current safe and alive… for now. It still couldn't point to where he is, unfortunately."
"…Do we know when things go south?" Lupin fearfully asks.
"If it happens, it should have weeks ago." Alastor counters. "There's no single contacts from the kidnapper either. If it's a Death Eater, they would have murdered him on spot…"
The machine suddenly points straight upward, causing the others to look at it in confusion before following where it points…
"So it can even track a soul to a different dimension. Interesting." To their surprise, an opened book floats above them, then it lowers down to reveal a fairy sitting on it. The machine then starts spinning drastically again. "Seeing you wizards fanatically finding the boy starts to get boring."
Instinctively everyone draws their wands and points directly to her. Without anyone saying a word, they all know that the fairy in front of them is responsible for the disappearance of their famous legend.
Alastor's fake-eye turns to Dumbledore, and the Headmaster sees it barely in the corner of his eyes. He starts the question: "Who are you? And how did you get in here?"
"For your second question, I can go to anywhere I want. Even where it's sealed by your weak protection spells." The fairy giggles a bit when she sees everyone stiffens even more after she appears. "For the name, it's Croire."
"You…" It doesn't take a genius to connect her name with the one in the letter left behind. Sirius growls dangerously. "You took Harry away…"
"A question back to you: Would it be good to leave him to that family?" Not fazed a bit, the history-recorder retorts back. "That old lady had the right idea, and yet your old fool just pushed the plan, ignoring the dangers clearly shown from that family."
"…But if you claimed to bring him to a better place, then why not informing me?" The Headmaster asks back.
"First, you're not going to agree. Second, it's interesting to see how you all react. Third reason… well, that's personal." Letting out a cheeky grin, Croire replies.
"…If you're here, meaning you're done playing your games. Where is he?" Sirius is close to firing a curse to the fairy, but he knows that the person before him is the only source to find out where his godson is.
"Hm… now should I tell you directly or not…" Croire makes an 'I'm wondering' face, causing the man to grunt curses to her. "Well, you would figure it out anyway… when he's eleven." She then notices the wand of the wizard firing out a spell to her, which is absorbed by the invisible shield constantly surrounding her. "Oops, someone's having short-tempered."
Sirius plans to fire once more but Dumbledore raises his free hand in front of him to stop him, so he begrudgingly obliges. The Headmaster then asks again: "What do you want from Harry? Or do you want something from us?"
"Well… that's for you to make a guess." The sentient tome chuckles again. "However, there's something I can guarantee you: your little baby will be safe with the people I sent him to. Even if I plan to make it around in the future, they would just outright lock me up for an amount of time depend on how bad those plans are."
That answer makes the wands waver. While they're very cautious of the being before them, from what they can tell, she hasn't spoken a lie yet. At least they can be at ease that Harry won't be in the harm way, for the time being.
"But… at least you can tell us how these people are… what they are?"
Turning to Dedalus, Croire starts thinking if she should answer or not. "…You know what, since it's been two months already, I can at least answer that for you."
Now that's a spark of hope for everyone around her.
"Though, don't keep your hopes up. I'm just entertaining myself here." Seeing those sparks slightly die down causes her to nearly burst out laughing. "Let's see… Those people aren't ones you should make an enemy of. To get the point: one of them can take your deadliest spell head-on and survive. The other can just destroy the planet if she wants to."
"…" There IS someone other than their celebrity survived that? And one that she claimed to be able to destroy whole Earth at will?
"They're not wizards or Muggles, in your terms."
"But they can perform magic." Dumbledore adds.
"Didn't I just tell you they can lock me up if they want to? Anyway…"
"How could something that's not human be better growing him up as… even Muggles?" Sirius wants to say insults to the house Harry was supposed to stay with, but decides to not to and just says it generally.
"Like I said, in your terms. I never said they're not… though I never said they are." She grins seeing the confusion on the wizards' face. "Also, you just happened to know one of the worst Muggles."
"Good." The Animagus is at least okay at giving other Muggles a chance.
"Back to before… now, what should I tell you more…"
Before she could mutter out anymore words, another portal appears directly below the book, and the magical detector points directly to it again. Then, to everyone's surprise, two tips of enormous fingers reach the book and instantly close it, trapping the fairy inside. Even she's caught off guard when it happens as she struggles to push the fingers out, though that's just to keep herself comfortable since she knows she won't be able to fully escape.
"Oi! That hurts! Do you really have to do so?"
There's no reply, however, and the fingers pull the fairy with her book back into the portal, leaving the surprised wizards behind.
Alastor's fake-eye catches on the detector's activities. When everyone gets their mind back, he speaks out: "The thing pointed to that fingers, or where it came from. It must be one of the 'people' that fairy-thing told us about."
"…A Giant." Lupin can only think of one creature that could have that kind of hands. However, he denies it himself: "No, not even the Giants have that big of a hand. This is something more. We just saw only the tips of the fingers…"
"How she's not dead is my surprise." Dumbledore raises a different concern. "Right now she's the only way to know if Harry is safe or not and his whereabouts."
"Let's hope that she's not locked away." Sirius says as everyone calms down and retracts their wands. "We still need answers."
The Headmaster then notes another matter: "…What should we say to the public? I'm sure the Ministry would want to know what happened."
"How about… saying that Harry got new parents?" It comes from the most optimistic wizard in the group. "It's technically not wrong, and we can say that these parents don't want to be known publicly so we disclose it."
"…That would also work." Dumbledore agrees. "But I really hope Harry can grow up well and… not doing bad things."
"Given that he's James and Lily's son, I doubt it." Sirius gives out a cheeky grin now knowing the baby is okay. "That kid's smart since birth, I'm sure he's fine."
…
"Having the other CPUs gossiping is bad enough already! I don't want others to know more!" The person grabs Croire with both her hands and shouts embarrassingly the moment the giant fingers drop the fairy into their house.
"Hey, I'm having fun here! Don't stop me from…"
"YOUR FUN, NOT MINE! The moms around here are already enough!"
"They aren't that bad." The other one in the room joins in as he's feeding a happy Harry. "They did give you good advices…"
"Growing HER is a handful already!" The girl slumbers back to the table where the other two are while letting out her grip on Croire. "I'm surprised that you're already adapted. Didn't think you could handle this."
"Hey, say that to the Head-of-multiple-families-at-once. He can give you a lot of things to know about."
"But that means I admit that I need his help, and I don't want to do so."
"Well, without his help, you wouldn't be here, right?" They then see Harry trying to touch the girl's face with his tiny hands. "Looks like he still favors you over me."
The girl's face lights up like Christmas tree, though with embarrassment, and she pouts at how he addresses it. Still, she gently grabs the baby and mentions the man to give her the bowl to feed him. "Bastard."
"You have to stay with this 'bastard' until Harry's eighteen… or he decides to move out like IF and Compa." Seeing the reluctant look on her face, he teases: "You don't want it to happen, do you?"
"…Bastard."
A small giggle causes both to look up again to see Croire floating away, again. The man sighs and says: "Avoid interacting with the wizards for now…"
"Nope. Don't care what you say." That's what the fairy says, but she also doesn't have any plans to talk with them, yet. "See you around soon."
