Chapter 10: Tensions Rising and Friends Arriving

At the police station

Mario and Peach were in a room having a discussing Eri's situation with detective Tsukauchi and the hero association representative, who introduced herself as Kata Shirami. Luigi was watching Eri in a waiting room down the hall. Tsukauchi spoke first to Mario and Peach.

"First of all, I would like to thank you Mario and Peach, as well as your brother Luigi. Thanks to your efforts an innocent child was saved and the leader of a dangerous Yakuza gang was apprehended." Tsukauchi said.

"But on that same matter, we request you hand over possession of the child to the proper authorities." Shirami said.

"What do you mean "possession"?" Peach asked.

"A poor choice of words." Tsukauchi intervened. "What she means is to let us of the Japan police force and the hero association take care of Eri. We will make sure she is properly looked after."

"You mean like before? You know, like all the other times Eri went to the police and heroes. When they let Chisaki take her back to do horrible experiments on her. You want us let her go back to that?" Mario asked.

"That was not our fault! There are rules. Without proper evidence there was nothing the heroes or the police could do to help her situation." Shirami retorted.

"So you admit you failed her. Your association and your society let this girl down." Peach said.

"No, that's not, I-I mean..." Shirami began to stutter.

Tsukauchi began to speak.

"Listen, I understand where you're coming from. But what happens when you leave? What if we find the power stars and Cursa within a week and you have to go home. What happens to Eri then?"

"Oh that's easy." Mario said getting Tsukauchi's and Shirami's attention. "She's coming with us."

"What!" Tsukauchi and Shirami yelled in shock.

"That's correct." Peach said. "We plan to bring Eri back and make her an official citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom."

"How?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Through adoption. Me and Mario will adopt her, after we get married of course."

"You can't!"

Shirami screamed. Everyone just looked at her in shock and confusion.

"What I mean is, you can't just take Eri. She has a home and a family here."

"Family? You mean the mother that abandoned her, who you still haven't found by the way. Or her comatosed grandfather, who is also a Yakuza boss. Or her "father" Chisaki, who did all those horrible things to her. Is that the "family" we can't take her from? And what home? The labs where they did all those experiments on her? Is that the "home" you want her to go back to?" Mario asked.

Shirami just glared at Mario while gritting her teeth.

"Well, can you protect her?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Of course. I think we've already proven we can do a much better job than your heroes." Mario replied.

"You think that YOU can do a better job of protecting her than our greatest heroes. You think that you can protect better than All Might or Endeavor? Please Mario, this is not the time for jokes." Shirami retorted.

Mario took in a deep breath before he got up from his seat and stared Shirami in the eyes.

"Listen Shirami, we have faced beings who, even with all the heroes and villains in your world working together, you would have no hope of defeating. We defeated mechanical world conquerors who destroy the power of wishes. We defeated a witch who tried to conquer our world, three times in fact. Once in her body, once when she possessed one of our enemies, and finally we had to destroy her soul to make sure she didn't come back. We defended our home from aliens who have conquered galaxies and were hell bent on wiping us out. We defeated a dream vampire who had the power to make nightmares a reality and was thousands of years old. We defeated a dark jester who, with a snap of his fingers, could wipe out your "hero" society. So yes! I do believe we can protect Eri better than your "heroes" Shirami."

Mario and Shirami just glared at each other until Peach separated them.

"Mario, please calm down." Peach asked.

Mario sat down, but was still visibly angry.

"It would seem that I will continue to speak as Mario is currently too upset to continue."

"That's alright Peach." Shirami said. "It's not your fault that Mario exaggerates his achievements." Shirami said with a chuckle.

Peach just silently glared at Shirami, making her stop.

"Shirami, I do not know why you have this unreasonable disdain for Mario and Luigi but you had best stop. Mario did not lie or exaggerate. The same way your society applauds All Might for his achievements is the same we do for Mario in our world. He is our greatest hero and his adventures and achievements our known throughout our universe. Can you say the same for All Might?"

"Well, that's a bit unreasonable princess." Tsukauchi said.

"How? Mario did it."

"Even so, you can't just take a japanese citizen."

"How about we ask Eri then? Let us ask her where she wants to go."

"She's just a child. She doesn't know any better." Shirami said.

"She knows she can't trust you. She knows that hero society let Chisaki experiment on her because of the "rules". She knows that we saved her, that Mario protected her when no one else could. So tell me how she doesn't know better?"

Shirami just hung her head in shame and defeat while Tsukauchi remained silent. Peach and Mario got up and walked towards the door. Peach then turned back to Shirami and Tsukauchi.

"If your government still wants a mutually beneficial relationship with the Mushroom Kingdom then they will stop trying to take Eri away from us. We decided to work with your government because we believed it to be the best decision at the time, but actions like this are causing us to regret that decision. Please keep that in mind."

After Mario and Peach left the room Shirami turned to Tsukauchi.

"He's lying right? He lied about what he did right?"

"No." Tsukauchi replied.

"But!"

"You know how my quirk works miss Shirami. I can tell when a person is lying and neither Mario or Peach lied."

"So then it's true? Mario and his friends are really that strong?"

"Have you read the reports from Gang Orca's evaluation on their performance during the provisional testing?"

"No."

"I recommend that you do. It'll give you an understanding on how strong our guests are."

With that Tsukauchi also left the room leaving Shirami to just think on the events that happened. Meanwhile, Mario, Luigi and Peach were walking home with Eri in Peach's arms. While walking home Peach noticed Eri was holding on to her with a tight grip.

"Eri, what's wrong?" Peach asked.

"Are you going let them take me away?" Eri asked.

"Of course not. We said we would protect you and that's what we are going to do."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

"Thank you mama."

Eri said as she rested her head into Peach's chest. Peach began to blush a bit when Luigi began to giggle.

"So that makes two children who called you mama. I wonder how Junior will react to this. Maybe he'll get jealous."

All three of them laughed at the thought until Mario stopped. Having images of Junior kidnapping Eri the same way Bowser kidnaps Peach.

"Mamamia."

"What's wrong Mario?" Peach asked.

"Nothing, just had a bad thought."

"Was it Junior kidnapping Eri?" Luigi asked.

"Yeah, how..."

"I think we all thought that." Luigi said.

The three began to laugh it off when Mario's phone began to ring.

"Hello."

"Hello, Mario? It's detective Tsukauchi."

"If this is about Eri."

"No Mario it's not about that. I won't lie and say that I agree with your decision, but I agree with your reasoning. Now the real reason I called is because of two incidents. First, Chisaki, also known as Overhaul, has escaped. His prison transport was attacked by an unknown assailant."

"Unknown? No one got a good look at the attacker or were there no survivors?"

"No survivors, but it's strange. There are no bodies left. No residue, nothing to indicate that the police and hero who were sent to escort Chisaki and his compatriots were killed. But we did find more of that strange energy that was around Mirko's disappearance."

"I see." Mario said in a serious tone. "So that means that the people sent to escort Chisaki are now under Cursa's control."

"Can she do that?"

"Yes, her Darkmess can corrupt anyone not protected by spark or star power. Even we would have a hard time fighting off her control."

"I see. While it's tragic it's a least a small comfort that we can save our men. Can you help us on this case Mario."

"Yes, now about the other incident."

"Hawks, one of our top heroes, has come across a strange object at the bay area near the industrial part of the city. Luckily the area is empty right now so only the police department and the hero association know about it. But we can't get through this energy barrier around the object. Scans show that it has a similar energy reading to power stars, so we were thinking you and your friends could help us out."

"Okie dokie. Just send us the location and we'll be there."

Mario then hung up the phone with Luigi and Peach looking at him with worried expressions.

"What's-a wrong bro?" Luigi asked.

"Cursa. She freed Chisaki and his goons and escaped. Detective Tsukauchi wants our help to try and track them down."

"Oh dear. Well we better help out. Can't let Cursa make an army of Darkmess powered quirk users. Was there anything else he needed?" Peach asked.

"Oh, that a strange object was found in the industrial area. I believe our friends have arrived."

"You mean?"

"Correct Luigi. Our smaller counterparts have landed."

"Then we better hurry up and find them before chaos ensues."

With that the trio took off to the coordinates Tsukauchi sent. They were greeted with a task force guarding the area around a strange bubble.

"Well hello there. You must be the VIPs at U.A.." A hero with large red wings greeted.

This was Hawks the current number three hero.

"Glad you made on such short notice. We really need this thing to be moved asap."

Mario nodded and walked towards the energy bubble.

"Hello. It's-a me, Mario!"

Mario yelled at the bubble. But nothing happened. Mario sighed and knocked on the bubble in a specific rhythm(The beginning of the Super Mario theme). The bubble began to dissipate, revealing a white spacecraft inside. The doors opened and the officers were shocked to see small rabbit like creatures dressed as Mario Luigi and Peach come out. Suddenly a small white disk shaped robot flew up to Mario.

"Oh thank heavens you're here and in good health. When we lost track of Cursa we feared that she had attacked you while we were still navigating the space between universes." The small robot said.

"We're fine Beep-o, but Cursa is already here and causing trouble." Mario explained.

"Oh dear. Is it just like Alabasta? Does she have a Darkmess army already?" Beep-o asked.

"Not yet. But we should find her quickly and nip this problem in the bud."

"Agreed. Hmm? Mario, who are all these armed men?"

Mario turned and saw the police force and Hawks standing by.

"Right. It's okay! They're friendly!"

The police force lowered their weapons and riot shields upon hearing that while Hawks approached.

"Good to hear. So who are your friends Mario?"

"Hello good sir. I am Beep-o, a robotic assistant to Mario and his friends in their fight against Cursa."

"You might want to keep that information on the down low. We're trying to keep Cursa a secret from the public."

"Really? By the way, why do you have wings. Are they a special piece of equipment?"

"Huh? Oh right! You don't have quirks where you come from."

"Quirks?"

"I'll explain later Beep-o." Mario said.

"Right. They may be your friends Mario but we still need to bring them in for questioning." Hawks said.

"Okie Dokie. I better come with them."

"Why? Have some information they can't share?"

"No it's just, well, things tend get a bit "chaotic" with these guys. Trust me, it's best if I'm around."

"Okay." Hawks replied in a confused tone.

With that Peach and Luigi took Eri back to their house while Mario went with Hawks and the Rabbids back to U.A. for a interview and evaluation on these new allies. It was also determined that the spacecraft could be hidden at U.A. for now as it had plenty of space and security only beaten by Tartarus, this worlds maximum security prison.

U.A. Highschool

Later at U.A., Hawks took off to do his hero patrol while Nezu, Tsukauchi, Shirami, All Might, Midnight, and Mario were in the conference room with the rabbids. Aizawa was asked to join along with them but was held up at the hospital for a health check-up. Thanks to Mario and Luigi his injuries from the USJ were not that severe and he was healing up nicely. He was about to walk into the conference room when.

"THAT DOES IT!" Shirami screamed as she burst out of the conference room. "These things are infuriating! I swear if I have to hear another "yo, yo, yo" or take another selfie I'm going to lose it!"

"Really? Hashtag, crazy selfie!" Rabbid Peach said as she took a selfie with her and a distraught Shirami.

"AAHHH! I never want to see another rabbid ever again!"

Shirami screamed as she stomped off. Aizawa was left confused, just staring at the situation and this "rabbid" creature dressed as Peach.

"Well that was interesting." Midnight said as she walked out with everyone else.

"So I take it the meeting didn't go well." Aizawa said.

"Depends Aizawa. We did get all the info we need and acquired new allies and tools in our fight against Cursa. So it went well in that sense. But the rabbids are quite "lively" to say the least. If it wasn't for Mario and Beep-o we would all have ended up like the representative." Nezu explained.

While Aizawa was processing this he saw All Might walk out with Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi playing with his hair.

"Okay, that's enough now. Seriously, that's my hair not rabbid ears!" All Might yelled as he tried to get the rabbids off of him.

"Rabbid Mario! Rabbid Luigi! Stop it now! Or you'll get no pizza tonight!" Mario ordered.

Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi suddenly stopped and jumped off of All Might.

"They're like children. Are all rabbids like this?" Midnight asked.

"Don't lump us all together." Edge said as she walked out.

"Our apologies and thanks Edge. We are grateful that you weren't as "energetic" as your compatriots." Nezu replied.

"Hey! Wadda ya mean by "energetic"?" Rabbid Mario asked.

"It means exactly what you think it means." Mario explained.

"That I'm macho." Rabbid Mario replied as he struck a pose.

All of the heroes and Mario just sweatdropped at this.

"Look, normally I can deal with your antics but it's been a very stressful day. Plus I have a new responsibility at home, so for her sake you're going to need to tone down the chaos." Mario said.

"Ah, you're speaking of Eri." Nezu said.

"Huh? Eri? Who's Eri?" Beep-o asked.

"She's my soon to be daughter."

Everyone, except Nezu, stared at Mario in shock.

"What? How!? When!?" Beep-o frantically asked.

"I'll explain later. Let's just go home for now." Mario then turned to Nezu. "Thank you for your patience and for letting us store the space ship here."

"It is no problem Mario. You are one of us now and have selflessly offered to help us. It's the least we can do."

"Thank you. We'll see you later."

"Yes, tomorrow when classes start up again. We have a special announcement for both 1-A and 1-B so we need you and your brother there."

Mario nodded and left with the rabbids. Once they were gone Nezu turned to his fellow teachers.

"That was something. I really hope those rabbids don't frighten Eri."

"You mean the little girl Mario and his friends saved. Does he mean what he said? Is he really going to adopt her?" Midnight asked.

"Yes. Both him and Peach. From what he's told me they plan to take her with them once they go home."

"Can they do that?" Aizawa asked. "She's still a japanese citizen, can they really take her."

"They made it clear that they will, no matter what. Eri's situation has left quite the stain on our society in their eyes. They consider it a massive failure on hero society as a whole."

"That's not a fair judgement. There are rules that..."

"Must be followed before heroes or the police can do anything, I know. And it's because of those rules that a child was forced to endure cruel experimentation throughout most of her life. While Mario doesn't hold it against any of us personally he believes it marks a larger problem in our hero society. As such, he and his friends do not trust us with Eri's safety."

Nezu's explanation seemed to have struck a nerve with everyone. They all stood in silence while All Might pondered on Nezu's words. He understood this problem well, in fact there were instances where he may have taken matters into his own hands. But because of his popularity and the fact that everything worked out in the end he was let off with a slap on the wrist. Other heroes would have had their licenses revoked and be labeled vigilantes.

"Still, would it be best to leave Eri with them. Especially with their new guests?" Aizawa asked.

"I think it would Aizawa. In fact, it might be just what Eri needs." All Might said shocking everyone.

"Really All Might? You do remember what those rabbids were like right?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Of course I do old friend. They were very chaotic, like a cartoon, and that might be what Eri needs to help her forget her painful past. Some light and hilarious chaos to distract her from those dark times and help her smile again. After all, did any of you feel endangered by the rabbid's antics?"

The rest of the group just looked at each other as All Might had a point. Sure the rabbids may have driven them up a wall, but it wasn't malevolent just very chaotic. Like what you would see in a Looney Toons episode.

"I see your point All Might, and with Mario Peach and Luigi there I do believe it would be best for Eri to stay in their care." Nezu said. "Now with that settled, we must make preparations for the sports festival. We need to tighten security for this year thanks to the USJ incident."

"I'll begin looking for extra heroes to patrol the grounds." Midnight said.

"I'll start creating training regimens for my students." Aizawa said.

"And I'll leave you all to it. I still have some cases to go over." Tsukauchi said as he bid everyone goodbye.

"Now then, let's get to work everyone. There is much to be done and so little time." Nezu said.

"Yes sir!" Aizawa, Midnight and All Might replied.
