Chapter 2
Sara knew she was in some sort of trance staring out of the window, while Greg was waiting for some solid and complete response for his question.
She knew she could trust him, he was one of her best and beloved friends. The thing is, she just couldn't talk too much about her ex-husband, because… Well, it made her way too sad.
But she would try, because it was time to let people in. She knew how much Greg enjoyed her company and how much he cared for her. He wasn't there for the juicy gossip.
So she shook her head and tried again.
"My… life with Grissom, with Gil," she smiled, "was very happy, Greg. I miss it everyday. Sometimes I even–"
"What?"
She was looking at her left hand as if something was missing.
"Sometimes I still play with my, now, imaginary wedding ring, you know? I keep scratching it's old place with my thumb" - Sara told him laughing.
"Wow! For someone who couldn't stand marriage…"
She laughed a little more
"It's not true. I'm just not someone traditional, that's all. And my marriage wasn't a traditional one, or our whole relationship, since the beginning".
Yeah, it wasn't traditional at all.
For starters, they were coworkers and no one knew about their relationship situation. Took a while for her to define it as a relationship, to tell you the truth.
She kept asking herself if it was too soon to "talk about it". But those thoughts disappeared one day, when they were having hamburgers for dinner at her place.
They were talking about something she couldn't quite remember and when she lifted her head, spotted a little bit of ketchup near his mouth.
Even though he had a napkin in his hands, it was so natural to just reach out and clean it with her hand, that she did. He wasn't taken aback and smiled at her as a thank you.
She smiled back.
So, why potentially complicate things between them, when she finally could - and oh she would - just reach out and touch him? She was really glad with their silente arrangement.
Grissom, on the other hand, could be a little more traditional. He was half on top of her, on her couch, when he stopped kissing her. She looked at him surprised.
"You know, I realized that we are about a month and a half seeing each other" he told her, and she raised her eyebrows in acknowledgment. "And I was thinking, maybe we should go out on a date"
"What do you mean?!"
"We should go out on a date" - he repeated slowly.
"I heard you, I just… How?"
He kissed her softly.
"Well, we can dress up and I will pick you up, obviously…" he kissed her again "and we can go to a restaurant, maybe catch a movie after, or take a walk, if you're on the mood, and…" he kissed her once more "and I will walk you to your door–"
"A real gentleman, he is"
He smiled
"I like to believe I am" Kiss. "Anyway, I'd walk you to your door, make sure you're safe. And if I'm lucky, you're going to accept my goodnight kiss and…" Kiss. "and if I'm even luckier, you're gonna ask if I want some coffee, and I will say yes".
That made her laugh hard and kiss him even harder.
"Oh, a man with a plan, I see"
He looked seriously at her. "Not a plan, a wish"
Less than two months together (could she say together at that point?) and he wanted a date. A perfect date. He clearly gave a lot of thought to that, as everything he does.
Even though a lot of people knew them in Las Vegas and it was risky to go on a date, dressed up and all, she wanted that adventure. Oh, she wanted it bad.
"Okay" - she agreed.
"Okay?"
"Yes, let's…uh… do it"
He smiled and kissed her.
"I'll pick you at seven, ok?" - he asked while getting up.
"What, is it today?!"
"Yeah, why leave it for tomorrow? See you at seven"
When he closed the door behind him, she realized she would be the responsible one in this relationship. But she was happy to.
"The thing is, I was proud to be married to him"
