Wiping the sleep from his eyes Pacey stumbled up the stairs. He didn't want to get out of bed, but he needed to try and get back to some sense of normalcy.
He was pleasantly surprised to see his friend back from Massachusetts. "Hey man, your back."
"Yeah." Will smiled taking Pacey's disheveled appearance. "How are you holding up?"
Shrugging Pacey stepped over to the coffee pot, pouring himself a cup. "As good as I can be I guess."
"That's good." The blonde tried to sound happy but seeing his friends depressed look he knew it wasn't. "Do you want to know?"
"Ok…might as well get it out now." Pacey sighed, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms.
"When I dropped the flag off with Gail, the B and B's table was right next to them, and I'm pretty sure I saw Joey's ears peak when I did." Pacey's stoic nod made him uncomfortable, but he went on. "And before I left Andie told me…Andie told me Dawson and Joey are trying again."
Pacey tried to laugh but it came out as more of a strangled sob, his knuckles burying in his tear-stained eyes. "I didn't expect anything less."
"I'm sorry."
"Not your fault man." Pacey sighed running his hands through his hair in frustration. "I knew I was playing with fire. Either I'd get Joey wrath or Dawson's. I just thought…" He stopped feeling tears breach the surface, a sad chuckle on his lips. "When she kissed me back, that something might actually go my way, but I can't compete with Dawson. I've never been able to."
Will was going to ask him to elaborate when the phone came to life. Keeping eyes on his friend, Will blindly grabbed the receiver. "Krudski residence…Andie hey."
Pacey's eyes widened; he figured once he was under this roof that Capeside would stay in Capeside. Boy was he wrong. Raising his hand to his neck he made a cutting motion, mouthing to his friend. 'Don't tell her I'm here.'
Will mouthed back a reassuring, 'I won't' before turning back to the phone call. "Really? Pacey's gone?"
His question made Pacey chuckle. Of course, Andie would turn into an interrogator.
"No…I haven't actually seen him since Dawson's lawn." Pacey mouthed an 'I'm sorry' for him to have to lie to a girl he liked. "Have you checked the True Love?" There was a beat then Will's eyes widened. "Joey's already looked?"
Pacey's head shot up his eyes a mixture of shock and happiness before shaking his head. Even if she did check out the boat it didn't matter, she was back in Dawson's arms anyway.
When Will hung up the phone, Pacey cleared his throat, pushing his coffee cup back on the counter. "I'm going back to bed."
"Alright Pace." Will watched his saddened friend disappear back down to his basement, his heart aching for him.
