It's almost been a week and a half since the Heroes course got their new assistant teacher, and their experience with his teaching methods has been somewhat unorthodox. This training has included carrying their classmate up 12 stories of stairs with a time limit, understanding different kinds of crimes and how to handle them, and how to pickpocket a villain. While these lessons from Silver were not what they were expecting, some of the young heroes in training could see its merits.
"What was the point of some of those exercises?" Asked Sato while coming back from the cafeteria with the rest of his classmates.
"Thinking outside the box... that's what I'm getting." So answered Jirou as she fiddled with her ear jack.
Most of their classes with Silver were odd, and nobody was happy that he ended up taking some of their money from their wallets during the pickpocket lesson. Silver ended up giving back their money after some 'convincing' from Aizawa and Ochako giving him the puppy dog eyes. Though some noticed that they were a bit lighter than usual, Silver had some snacks with him when he gave them back and gave everyone said snacks.
"This is something that can't be put off... our teamwork is fairly shoddy," Midoriya muttered. Izuku was thinking back to his private lessons with Silver for the week.
(Flashback starts)
"Alright, let's see how you throw a punch first, Freckles."
Izuku, Toshi, and Silver practiced in a small room with multiple training dummies in what Nezu dubbed, the Stress Relief Room. Finally, the old vigilante presented a wooden figure to the ninth heir.
"I want you to give this dummy a good solid punch, so let it rip."
With a tentative moment, Izuku punched the dummy. The coordination for his punch was slow, it didn't have any sort of weight behind it, and the punch was as graceful as a drunk trying to do ballet.
"How did I do, Silver-sensei?"
…
…
…
…
…
"Kid, you have a long way to go." Silver muttered in disappointment, making Izuku's color drained from his body as his mouth hung wide open.
"H-H-He's trying...!" Shouted Toshi indignantly as he tried to give his protégé support from the rather harsh statement after spitting out some blood in shock.
Silver sighed as he looked at the disheartened green bean. "I'm not heartless; he just needs some work. Now Freckles, try putting your hip into the punch; put your back into it as well. It will take you a long way."
With renewed energy, Izuku went for a second try at punching the wooden dummy.' Wait, did young Midoriya forget to put on the-'
SMACK!
AHHH!
"Well, Freckles, the good news is you managed to throw a proper punch and leave a good size dent in the training dummy. The bad news….well I think it's a good reminder on why protective gloves are important for this training purpose."
Izuku screamed in pain, rolling on the floor with pain shooting up from his injured hand. He's thankful that his hand didn't break, but it still hurt since he punched a solid object with all his strength without activating One For All.
"Well, kid, you did well; however, just like Pineapple, your lack of foresight will bite you in the ass. Trust me; this is me speaking from experience." Toshi still looked wide-eyed as his student was still rolling in pain.
(End of Flashback)
Izuku shook out his fist, still remembering his first lesson with Silver, always have protection on hand. When everyone got back to class, they found All-Might and Silver having a stare-off.
"What are they doing?" Signed Koda as he thought the air around the two adults was rather tense.
Neither the Symbol of Peace nor the King of Absolute Terror moved a muscle. All-Might blinked before falling to the ground. "Damn it! I was so close to-oh, errr... Hello, my young students! I am here! On the floor with your Teacher's Assistant!"
"Don't drag me down with you just because you lost, Pineapple!"
"It's time for the next exercise for today!" Then, deciding to move on from the rather odd behavior, Iida spoke up. "What does this exercise entail?"
Silver clearing his throat loudly to get their attention, "Well, for one, you're not going to need your hero uniforms for this exercise, and you're not going to the gym either for training. So instead, you're going to head to the front of U.A., and you'll meet some essential people there."
"Yes, Sensei." Most of the class shouted as they headed off to the locker rooms.
(Front of U.A.)
1-A got to the front of the building wearing the U.A. standard tracksuit. Across the yard from them were 20 other students in U.A. tracksuits.
"Who the hell are these extras?!" Shouted Bakugo.
"Says the explosive Pomeranian," Sneered Monona. "So the great class 1-A showed up late? "Why it's true We are superior to you since every single one of you deserves-"
SMACK!
"A smack on the head for running your mouth before the exercise begins? I agree. Plus another for antagonizing them in the first place, Copycat." Silver interrupted, smacking the blonde copycat once again. Behind Silver were their respective homeroom teachers and All-Might. All three had neutral expressions as they saw what the old vigilante had planned.
"I'm curious to see what he has planned." Said Vlad.
"Whatever it is, he asked Nezu for permission and gave him the go-ahead," Aiwaza answered his coworker.
"May God have mercy on their souls."
"That depends on your definition of mercy."
Silver had the Heroes Course lined up and in order. "Today, you will be given a task that will be grueling and backbreaking."
A few students gulped in fright, while others were starting to sweat bullets, but whatever this grueling task may be, they will tackle it head-on.
"You're going to help make a garden for the front yard of U.A.," Silver stated with a smile.
After hearing what they were doing, a few students flopped to the ground in shock.
"Mon éclat sera souillé!" Aoyama shouted dramatically while on the ground.
"What the hell kind of training is that, you geezer?!" Screamed Bakugo. "We're was training to be Heroes, not some damn flower presser!"
"You're going to have a team-building exercise that will benefit both classes to be united as one, Firecracker. Now quit complaining and grab a shovel." Silver answered Bakugo sharply. He tossed the explosive blond a shovel and motioned him to get to work. Bakugo looks down at the shovel and back up to see that he was dead serious.
"Keep whining, and I will make you compliment everyone in both 1-A and 1-B."
Bakugo paled at the threat. Like hell, he will give any damn praise to those extras. With a reluctant grunt, he walked off before shooting Silver a glare. "Alright..." Bakugo growled through gritted teeth. Without any other words, he stomped off to start this lousy exercise.
Meanwhile, with everyone else, things were going much more smoothly.
"Let's trim some of the other bushes here," Kinoko said as she dragged Kamikiri over to the hedges. "Can you make these hedges an awesome shape, Kamikiri?"
The mantis boy smirked. "Definitely." With a quick flick of his wrist, Kamikiri generated two blades into his hands.
"Oi, we were supposed to cut these hedges together!" Ojiro shouted. In his hands were a pair of sheers ready to trim down the large bushes before them.
"Just get your ass over here, tail boy, and don't get in my way!" Kamikiri yelled out to Ojiro. Finally, the tailed boy relented and helped Kamikiri out despite the rude demand.
With Izuku, he was looking at a large mural with the school's logo in the center. With him, Ochako, Shoda, and Yui had brushes and paint in hand. "How are we going to paint this Deku?" Asked Ochako.
Izuku cupped his chin in his hands. "Let's start in the center, mainly to get a baseline of how things will go from there."
"Wait, what about the color patterns for it?" Asked Shoda as he was unsure which color to start with for the mural.
"I don't know? Maybe red?" Izuku suggested.
"I think white would work better," Yui added.
"Let's start with white then."
As they talked, a student with a comic bubble walked over to the group.
"Hey Manga, want to help?" Shoda asked, noticing the other boy's head forming the shape of a paintbrush.
Manga nodded. "Watch this," he said, taking the brush Shoda offered him and marching towards the canvas.
The boy set to work, leaving the others stunned as he painted with the confidence of a master.
Ochako blinked. "Huh," she said. "That's...interesting. I didn't know he was an artist."
Shoda shrugged. "It's been his hobby since middle school," he replied.
"Do you think his quirk helps him?" Izuku mused, pulling out his notebook almost by reflex. "Maybe makes him better at visualizing, or gives him more experience with creating things-"
Yui shook her head, cutting off Izuku's rambling before it could get started. "He's just...good," she said quietly.
Manga just hummed to himself, lost in his little world as he continued to paint.
While the painting group was busy, Koda and Toru were pressing flowers near the front of the school entrance.
"Come on, guys! There's so mushroom to plant these lilies!" Kinoko happily remarked as she got next to Toru.
Toru groaned at the rather lame pun from the mushroom girl. "...Why... must ... I suffer..." Toru pretended to gag and fell onto the grass, falling on her back. Kinoko, meanwhile, raised an eyebrow and giggled at the rather over-dramatic response. She offers a hand to the invisible girl as she felt it grip tight and pulled her off the ground.
"Seriously though, I really do want to plant some mushrooms for the garden so we can use them for cooking."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Toru shouted excitedly as they ran off to a different area to help with growing mushrooms. Koda followed after them, seeing how they would need the extra help.
Meanwhile, near the courtyard, a pair of students were having a bit of a disagreement. "What are you doing!?" Shouted Tenya as he marched toward Juroto and gave him a stern glare.
"Simply moving these ferns at the corner, so they don't interfere with these bushes being trimmed within accordance with Silver-Sensei's suggestion," Shishida responded.
"But they will clash with the lilies and daffodils!" Tanya shot back as he started to make a chopping motion with his arm.
Shishida started to frown. "I disagree vehemently. They actually mix well," He firmly stated as he glared at Tanya.
"I disagree with your disagreement. The ferns will make the patterns uneven!" Tanya countered as both boys looked ready to blow into a full-blown argument.
"Cease your arguing at once, both of you!" Ibara stated as she got between both Tenya and Shishida. "This is a sacred place, do not sully it with your pettiness." She scolded them.
"... Alright. I apologize for being ungentlemanly, Sir Iida." Shishida apologized while looking ashamed for his outburst.
"... I concur. I should be more open-minded to suggestions." Said Iida before he stretched his hand. "Let's go with your suggestion for the fern placement."
"Thank you, good sir. Let's continue with our work."
Over on the opposite side of the yard, Bondo and Sato finished planting some trees as Bakugo kept digging up more dirt. The explosive blonde was digging aggressively as soil and rocks were being flung. "Sheesh, Bakugo. Can't you try to take it down a notch?" Sato asked his classmate.
"SHUT UP, EXTRA!" Bakugo shouted at Sato as steam was pouring out of his ears.
"Is.. he always like this?" Bondo asked Sato as he peered over his shoulder.
"Yeah, you kind of get used to it, but then….I don' know." Sato answered.
"... at least we don't have to deal with him entirely."
"O.I., I CAN HEAR-" Bakugo shouted until he felt something, or rather someone hit him in the back of the head. He turned around and saw Silver was giving him a stern look.
"The point of the exercise was to form bonds, not to burn bridges with everyone you meet."
"Why the hell should I care for them?! They'll just get in my way!" Bakugo shouted back at Silver, who held his gaze to the explosive blonde.
"Keep that attitude up, and I will be damn sure to make good on following through with my punishment." Bakugo cringed at this and knew that Silver was not screwing around with his threat. He grumbled to himself and stomped off to the other side of the yard. Sato and Bondo looked at each other and shrugged before getting back to work.
Behind them, Tsu and Tokage were working on watering the recently planted trees. Silver tasked both of them with watering the planted trees, and so far, they are making progress as they decided to talk with each other. "So what do you think of Silver-sensei, Tokage-san?" Asked Tsu.
Tokage took a moment to think before answering. "He's a bit out there, but I can see the method to the madness." She responded while flowering a small Sakura sapling.
"He also makes the lessons more engaging. But, unfortunately, as much as I like having All Might as a teacher here, he is not good at teaching, kero."
"Where do you think he comes from?"
Tsu placed her finger on her chin to think about the kind of place Silver would come from. With how he acts, it must be somewhere that's pretty wild, in her opinion.
While the two girls talked with each other, the perverted trio of the Heroes Course was checking them out from a distance. Tsubaraba was relaxing on a tree while Mineta and Kaminari leaned on their shovels. "Damn, Tokage has a really nice rack on her," Mineta commented while a tiny bit of drool came out of his mouth.
"Yaoyorozu has a bigger pair than Kendo. Both are still sexy." Tsubaraba answered the shorter boy.
"Well, true... but where do you think Tokage ranks in comparison to them?" Asked Kaminari. Mineta and Tsubaraba took a moment to think about their answer, with the latter scratching his head.
"I say that she would be in the top 5 in my book," Tsubaraba responded.
A thought came to Mineta as he shared his idea as all 3 of them were blissfully unaware of the looming shadow over them.
"Hey do you think if Tokage can split herself, do you think she can lick he-"
Bonk! Bonk! Bonk!
All three boys were faced down on the ground with lumps on their heads. When they looked up, they saw a displeased-looking Silver staring them down. "You three should be planting marigold seeds, not that type of seed!"
The old vigilante scolded the three boys. "I'm not gonna make that joke because I'm too classy for that. Now get moving!" The trio soon scrambled to their feet, grabbed their shovels, and decided to get to work. Silver watched the three getting to work and started to reminisce about himself. 'Ah, to be young and innocent, again.' Silver thought to himself as a blissful smile crept upon his face.
However, when he looked across to see how everyone was getting along, he saw that Todoroki was by himself planting alone shrubbery. 'What's he doing by himself again?' Silver thought to himself as he approached Shoto. "You know, the point of this exercise was to socialize with your classmates?"
Shoto briefly looked up and then looked away from Silver to focus on planting his bush with an emotionless expression. "... I'm not that close with either of them."
Silver tilted his head and crossed his arms. "Yeah, and I can tell. Since I got here, you never seem interested in interacting with anyone, and there's another odd thing I noticed as well."
"... I'm not here to make friends. I'm just aiming to be a top hero... that is all."
Silver gave him a rather stern look. "If you aim to be the number one hero, then why are you half-assing all your work? You only ever use the right side of your Quirk."
Shoto's stoic face briefly cracked as he had a rather hateful glint in his eyes and slammed his fist into the soil. "It's because the left side uses his power... I swore never to use it. "
It took Silver a moment before it clicked on who Shoto's father was. "Oh, right." Silver's face softened a bit as he looked rather sad. "How about we talk more in private about this problem, kid." Shoto thought about it for a moment and nodded. Silver gestured to the entrance of U.A. and waved to Aizawa and Vlad. "I'll be back in a few minutes, and I trust you 2 to be able to hold down the fort while I'm away." Silver called out to the two homeroom teachers.
Aizawa gave a quick nod, and Vlad waved them off. "Alright, don't take too long." The blood hero shouted back. Silver gave a quick thank you, and he led Shoto to the school entrance to have a private chat.
Over at a different part of the front entrance, Mina and Pony were working on planting some. Lavender seeds. "Oh, hey. You have cool h-h-horns" Said Pony as she still struggled with speaking Japanese well. Mina perked up at the compliment as she took a good look at Pony's horns.
"Thank you. I like your horns too, Tsunotori-chan!" Mina complemented back as she was giddy to make another friend.
Pony looked back at the pink girl as she complimented her horns. "R-really?" She asked as Mina jumped with joy and nodded.
"Let's be 'horn buddies' for life!"
Pony started to grin ear to ear as she hugged Mina. Both girls squealed with joy at the new friendship they had formed. The noise they made caught some of their classmates' attention from how loud they were.
Momo and Kendo were coordinating their classmates on where to work and who to be paired up with at the center of the courtyard. Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Kendo turned toward Momo. "Wow, this work is pretty exhausting. But, I'm surprised that most of my class is getting along with your class despite Monoma's attempts."
Momo looked at Kendo. "I'm curious, though, Kendo-san. Why does he have such a vendetta against my class?" Momo asked as she tried to figure out why Monoma was hostile to 1-A.
"I honestly believe it's more his inferiority complex than anything." Kendo answered.
"Inferiority?"
"He doesn't have a Quirk that would make him a front-line hero. Since those are what most people look up to and your class surviving a Villian attack made him resentful."
Momo couldn't help but feel kind of sorry for him. Sure he was a jerk, but she still wants to help him out. "Has he tried to talk out his inferiority complex with anyone?"
Kendo had a sad smile grace her face. "Unfortunately, he closes up before saying anything about that."
Momo rested her chin in her hand. "Hmm... was he bullied possibly? Prior to U.A.?"
Kendo shrugged. "I honestly don't know he never-"
CRACK! SPANISH!
Both girls turned their heads toward the behind them as they saw a giant water geyser shooting up. "What the-"
"Yaoyorozu! Get over here, now!"
A few minutes prior
Far off near the back of U.A., Kirishima and Tetsutetsu were making holes. It's been a physically demanding task, but both boys were digging diligently. Tetsutetsu glanced at Kirishima before smirking. "I can dig faster than you," Tetsutetsu stated as he started to dig faster.
Kirishima had a fire in his eyes at the challenge. "I'll show you how manly I can be!" He shouted with passion and started to dig faster. Both boys kept digging and digging with sheer intensity until…
CRACK!
"Huh?"
SPLASH!
Water started to spray both boys as they were knocked off their feet from the water pressure.
"Oh crap! We must have hit a water pipe!" Kirishima shouted as he tried to close the pipe but kept getting pushed back from the water blasting into his face.
Tetsutetsu then charged at the broken pipe with a war cry. He tried to hold his ground against the geyser of water but was washed away and landed into the mud. "This is getting worse!" Tetsutetsu yelled out as he slammed his fist into the dirt.
"Aizawa-sensei! We need help!" Kirishima called out as he kept trying to get close to the broken pipe.
Both homeroom teachers heard the call for help and almost had their eyes pop right out of their sockets. "YAOYOROZU! KENDO! GET OVER HERE, NOW!" Aizawa shouted as he quickly made a call for the maintenance bots while Vlad ran over to the valve system to turn off the water. Both girls rushed past their teacher to see what was going on.
"What the hell happened?!" Kendo asked Tetsutetsu as her hands grew bigger to block out the spewing water.
"Well, me and Kirishima were having a manly digging competition, and we accidentally broke a water pipe," Tetsutetsu responded as he tried to stand up but slipped back into the mud.
Vlad is turning the water faucet to the right as hard as he can to decrease the flow of the water." Come on...move…" Vlad grunted as he slowly managed to turn the faucet to budge as the water pressure started to get weaker.
Thinking fast, Momo took off her tracksuit jacket, lifted her shirt, and activated her Quirk to make pipe repair equipment. "Thanks for the save, Yaomomo and Kendo." Said Kirishima as he found his footing to not slip in the mud.
"You're welcome," Momo answered back. Then, she started to work by laying out the repair equipment as the repair bots came rolling in.
"Man, we don't get paid enough to fix the screw-ups these morons make." The red repair bot said to its blue counterpart as it picked up the tools Momo made for them.
"Yeah, we need to get a pension for more vacation time." Said the blue repair bot as it weld the broken pipe.
"Let's bring this up to the boss next time."
"Oh totally, and maybe I can put in my two weeks' notice as well."
The red bot locked its lens camera to its partner. "... too soon. Maybe after a year."
The blue repair robot looked down. "Right, I forgot what happened to poor Jerry."
"Agreed," both bots soon got to work fixing the pipe. Finally, after 10 minutes, repair bots repaired the pipeline and gave a thumbs up that Aizawa and Vlad did the job.
After a quick scolding over the shoveling competition, everything went smoothly. By the end of the lesson, nearly both classes formed a strong bond. Silver couldn't be happier with the results. "Well, I have to say that this went much better than I thought. Don't you agree?" Silver asked the students.
Most of the students took a moment and answered Silver's question. "While it was unorthodox, I believe this exercise gave me and everyone from my class a better understanding of our sister class," Momo answered.
"I agree as well, Sensei," Kendo answered back with most of her class nodding in agreement.
Bakugo, Monona, and Shoto were relatively quiet. The latter had a look of contemplation as he thought about what Silver talked with him about in private. Bakugo and Monoma both refused to look Silver in the eye. "Alright then, you kids, and get going. And make sure you rest up for Saturday since it's a big day for ya." Silver announced that the class was now dismissed.
As the students were making their way out, Silver looked back at Shota and Vlad. "Well, a few hiccups here and there, but otherwise, I say that it was pretty damn successful."
Shota gave the old man a hard look. "Fine, this exercise does have some benefits for both classes." He admitted with a defeated sigh while Vlad nodded in agreement. "I'm sure if we didn't have your qualified insight, things would have been worse."
Silver gave Aizawa the stink eye for the rather snarky remark and looked back at the students. Inside U.A., Toshi has observed how the class exercise went. 'So, the exercise went off with minimal issues... you surprised me again, Silver.' The Number one Hero thought as he watched how Silver's odd exercise had helped start the bridge between both Hero classes and helped them form a bond. They all were talking with each other, some laughing a bit, but it's out of goodwill.
Toshi looked up to the clear blue sky as he started to ponder to himself.
'Looks like Silver's first foray into teaching hasn't gone off the rails yet. I misjudged you, Geezer, but it's still too early to tell if you are serious.'
With the U.A. The Sports Festival is coming up in 2 days; everyone will see what the world's best hero school has to offer.
