AN: Well this chapter came out faster than I thought but I wanted to make this one a two-parter. Anyway, please fave, follow, and comment. I'm happy to get feedback but no flames please.
It was a brand-new day at U.A. and both Hero Course classes were gathered at Gym Beta.
"Today is a new day," announced Aizawa, who had brought a large chart with him. "You will now be doing something that will be with you for the rest of your careers before you meet with the crazy geezer." Everyone was on guard now. What would the unpredictable Eraserhead come up with before their new class? "You will now be choosing a Hero name."
Everyone internally sighed with relief, especially class 1-A, feeling like they'd dodged a bullet for now.
"Your performance during the Sports Festival gave the world a sample of your potential. In turn, Hero Agencies all across Japan has given you an offer to take an internship under them." Stated Aizawa as he presented the chart, and a large hologram chart was displayed and showed the amount of internship offers everyone had received. However, it was the top five that got everyone's attention.
Todoroki: 3001 drafts
Iida: 2342 Drafts
X
Midoriya: 1453
Bakugo: 999
Nobody was surprised that Todoroki and Iida had placed at the top. What was surprising, however, was the third spot being blank. "Wait, did Suiseigan come in third place?" asked Izuku. There was no one else who it could be, in his mind.
"He did. However, there was a reason why he was excluded. He had no interest in becoming part of the Heroes course," answered Aizawa.
"Really? I thought he would want to be in the Hero Course," questioned Sero.
"Not everyone is interested in being a Hero, Sero. Now can we move on?"
Vlad King then stood in front of the students. "Choosing a Hero's name is important. Be sure to think hard about it - it defines you and your overall presence as a Hero! Choose wisely!"
Off to the side, Midnight and Silver each held two signs, one with an X and another with an O. "If you want to get your name approved, both Nemuri and I have to agree on it," explained Silver.
"So, let's get to it, my pretties, starting with Aoyama!" announced Midnight.
The young French blonde strutted up to the board and presented his Hero name. "Shining Hero: I Can Not Stop Twinkling!" He read aloud.
Both teachers held up the X signs.
"Too damn long," Silver said flatly.
"Maybe if you combine the Can and Not and make it Can't-" Midnight suggested, before being cut off by Silver again.
"I'd suggest working with your costume, so focus on knights being shining examples of heroism or something."
Aoyoma put his hand to his chin. "A knight? J'aime le nom, ça va, it fits me and my future image." the blonde exclaimed. He then rewrote his hero name and presented it. Shining Hero: Starry Knight.
Midnight and Silver then held up the O sign to show their approval, grinning.
"Next!"
Up next, Ashido presented her Hero name. Acid Hero: Alien Queen.
Both teachers again held up X signs. "Rejected!"
"Huh, I thought it was a good name!" protested Mina, perplexed.
"Aim higher, pink, make it really yours," said Silver.
"But don't overdo it, you don't want to end up regretting the hero name you pick," added Midnight.
Mina then went back to her seat to come up with a better Hero name.
"Alright, to make things go quicker, we'll let you take 5 minutes to come up with a hero name, then we'll let you know if you're good. If we don't like it, we'll circle back to you," Silver told her. After 5 minutes everyone had written their new Hero name down after a long and thoughtful process. After a minute, she then presented her new Hero Name, Acidic Hero: Magnolia.
Silver gave an approving smirk at the pink girl's choice. "Not bad. Next!" Mina grinned in response and jumped in joy, while Silver walked away.
Silver and Midnight then looked at what everyone picked for their Hero name. Some names were fine to them. Phantom Thief, Chargebolt, Earphone Jack, Froppy, Dragon Shroud, just to name a few of the good ones. Others, however…
"Sugar Man? The name you picked was for an old supervillain," Silver told Sato.
"Wait, what?!" exclaimed Sato, dismayed. He then immediately started to erase the name 'Sugar Man' and went back to the drawing board.
Midnight then looked at what Tooru pitched for her Hero name. Reflection Hero: Princess Miraa.
"Ah, much better than the Invisible Girl name!" said Midnight, satisfied, as she patted Tooru on the head, "Plus it's even a pun! Very clever and likely to be popular."
Back with Silver, he looked over Ojiro's new Hero name, since 'Tail Man' was beyond generic. Karate Hero: Viper Strike.
With a thumbs up, Silver glanced at Kirishima as he held his sign. Roaring Hero: Red Riot.
"Not a bad choice, Red," remarked Silver, making Kirishima smile brightly. He then looked at Bakugo's Hero name.
King Explosion Murder
…
…
…
"Denied."
"The hell, WHY!?" demanded Bakugo, gritting his teeth furiously.
"Most sane people wouldn't trust or like a Hero that has a name that sounds like they're going to kill them with grenades strapped with C4," was Silver's answer, "On top of that, it sounds more fitting if it was a finishing move instead of a Hero name."
Bakugo fell silent and glared at the old man for a moment. 'The Geezer at least gave me a good suggestion for one of my Super moves.'
"Try again and make sure its doesn't have the word 'murder' in it, for fuck's sake."
Bakugo grumbled before going back to the drawing board to come up with a proper Hero name.
When Silver looked at Iida, he noticed that the normally enthusiastic student had a stone-cold expression and on his board was just his name. Silver raised an eyebrow as he looked at Iida.
"I thought you would be a bit more enthusiastic and creative with coming up with a Hero name, Daytona." Asked Silver.
"... I'm okay with using my real name," answered Iida coldly.
"Alright, but if you do want to change it, just let the staff know," Silver responded. While he didn't show it, the old man's gears were turning inside his head as he thought about Iida's odd behavior. Whenever someone wasn't acting like themselves, it raised a red flag to him.
Midnight, meanwhile, was looking at Reiko's hero name. Ghostly Hero: Hollow Eve.
"How spooky, it's perfect!" Nemuri proclaimed. She then looked at Tetsutetsu's board to see what he came up with. Steel Hero: Iron Bull. "Iron Bull. Okay, that's a good one," she told him with a nod, smiling supportively. Then she looked at what Shoto thought of. Yin-Yang Hero: Frostburn. "What a splendid name, approved!"
Silver glanced at Sato, who presented him with his new Hero name. Sweets Hero: Sugar Rush. "Well, you're naming your Hero name after your Quirk. It's a good placeholder, so you're good. Plus, Jirou-kun named herself after her Quirk, so you're certainly allowed to as well."
"Thanks, sensei!" answered Sato, cheered up.
Silver then looked over at Kendo and smirked at the name she chose.
Kung Fu Hero: Fire Fist.
"Is something wrong, Silver-sensei?" asked the ginger girl.
"No, it's nothing. Reminds me of someone who called himself that a long time ago," answered Silver. "I know you'll be able to live up to that title. Don't worry, he wasn't a Hero, so there's no need to deal with copyright infringement or anything"
He then noticed Izuku was looking down at the board and there was nothing written down. "You alright, Freckles?" asked Silver as he strolled over to him. "You of all people would have been excited over picking a Hero name. Something on your mind?"
"I have been thinking it through for a bit on it, Sensei. And honestly, I don't know what to pick." replied Izuku, gripping the marker tightly.
Silver took a deep breath and put his hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Just follow your heart for this one. Your brain is good for logic but the heart runs on emotions. When you hear it from your heart, you'll know what to pick."
Izuku then closed his eyes and decided to listen to his heartbeat.
…Gomu
Izuku opened his eyes and before he realized it he saw what he wrote down.
Joyful Hero: Rubberman.
"What do you know, a fine Hero name." Said Silver, speaking at Izuku's choice. "And I believe that should be it. Right?"
"Yes, it does feel right." Said Izuku as he grinned at the name.
"Good. Meanwhile, I'm going to see if Firecracker came up with a name that doesn't involve killing anyone."
Silver looked over to see what Bakugo came up with Explosion Lord God: Ground Zero.
"Close enough, for now. We'll wanna work on the title down the line, but at least you have a better Hero name." Shrugged Silver.
Bakugo glared at Silver but was internally thankful that he'd given him approval.
Once everyone picked their Hero names, Aizawa got everyone's attention. "My fellow staff members and I will be overseeing how training goes for the new class. Old man, don't do anything stupid."
"Really? Do you have that little faith in me, Suzi?" Asked Silver.
"Yes."
"I'm hurt, Suzi."
"Considering you were an idiot who brought Devil Fruits to a Hero School, I think I have a good reason."
"Fine, fine. Now, can I get on with my lesson?" Silver cleared his throat as he stood before the Hero students. "Now, as a reminder, I am technically Quirkless, but I'm far from helpless. So today, I'm going to give you a crash course in Haki for the first hour."
He then ran off into a storage room, only to reemerge moments later with a blindfold and a large wooden stick. "Now, there are three kinds of Haki and only two of them can be taught. What we are about to do is a training method to potentially awaken your ability to use it."
Mineta started to sweat, a premonition as to what the blindfold and large bundle of sticks were for entering his head. 'Oh God, I think Silver-sensei might kill me first before the Villains do…'
"Now, I'm going to demonstrate the first type of Haki. Shoji, come up here for a moment since you can help out." The multiple armed student came forward as asked. "Now, I want you to take as many sticks as you can and try to hit me while I'm blindfolded."
"Uhh, are you sure Silver-sensei?" asked Shoji reluctantly.
"Don't worry, it'll be fine."
The multi-armed student formed a hand on his extra arms and grabbed a stick in each, while Silver put a blindfold on himself. "Alright, you have 30 seconds to try to hit me. Peach, start the timer on your mark."
Momo then created a stopwatch and set the timer to 30 seconds. "Go!"
Shoji took a swing with his lower right arm, but Silver dodged it. "Your next swing will be from your middle left arm, followed by a fake out with your upper right arm coming at an arc, but actually switching to your middle left arm." As he called out each move, Silver dodged each attack as they were taken.
Shoji was shocked that Silver had predicted his moves but tried to speed up. He swung from the right with all three arms from different directions.
But with each swing, Silver kept moving left and right dodging every strike Shoji threw at him. He ducked and lean back as each strike completely missed him.
"Time!"
Shoji dropped the sticks he'd been using, sweating from the intense effort of trying to hit Silver. "Thank you, Shoji. You can head back and take a breather." Silver took off the blindfold, not even looking winded. "What I just demonstrated was the Color of Observation. In short, it lets the user predict an opponent's attacks."
The students started to whisper among themselves wondering what else it can do. "It's like he can predict the future." Whispered Mina to Kaminari.
"I can also go into U.A. and accurately guess how many people are in the building and know where a specific person is located." Stated Silver. "Not to mention I can gauge how powerful a person's 'voice' is."
"That's four Quirks in one!" Exclaimed Monoma.
"You can say that. However, to best use it, you need to be in a calm state and it has its flaws." Continued Silver. "For example, I can't replace my actual sight with it or see my surroundings."
Mineta stomped on the ground in a huff. 'Damn it! I could have used it for peeping in the girls locker room!'
"And now we'll start practicing it. Midoriya, you're up first." Izuku perked up as he walked over to Silver. "Put the blindfold on, sit down, and try to dodge the stick as long as you can."
Izuku reluctantly put the blindfold on and sat down.
THWACK!
Next thing Izuku knew, he was knocked into the air with a smarting goose egg forming on his head, landing roughly 20 feet away. "Well, that's one done. Firecracker, come on up to the chopping block!" Silver ordered cheerfully.
"I'm not so easily beaten like shitty Deku, geezer!" Bakugo stomped over and put the blindfold on. "This'll be easy."
Not a second later, Bakugo bore a fresh, smoking goose egg on the back of his own head, landing face down beside Izuku, who had woozily gotten to his feet.
Over the next 30 minutes, the entire Heroes course were sporting bumps on their heads.
"Should we consider this child abuse?" Vlad King asked his fellow teachers.
"The dictionary's or his definition?" replied Aizawa.
"Good point."
Back with the students, most of them were nursing their heads. "I think we all know where we stand," commented Awase, rubbing his head.
"Don't fret too much, the beginning of Haki training is always painful. Besides, I still need most of you in one piece so that we can go over the second type of Haki," Silver told them, picking up the many broken sticks he had produced during the exercise. "Now, I'm gonna need Tetsutetsu-kun to help with the demonstration for this type of Haki."
Tetsutetsu gets up to Silver. "So what do you want me to do, Teach?"
"Turn your Quirk on and hit me as hard as you can."
Tetsu soon turns to steel and goes for an overhand attack, striking Silver.
CLANG!
The old teacher didn't budge an inch and didn't look like he was hurt. Tetsutetsu, on the other hand, clutched at his fist, which throbbed.
"W-What? I was steel, but it fucking hurts?!" he exclaimed. Most of 1-B were shocked to see Tetsutetsu in pain, let alone swearing.
"What just happened!?" shouted Pony in English.
"Sorry Steel, you can head back to everyone and I will explain everything." Said Silver as he pats the boy on the back.
Tetsutetsu heads back before Silver continues his lesson. "The second type of Haki I just demonstrated is called Color of Armament."
"Wait, so is it like my Hardening quirk?!" Exclaimed Kirishima.
"And my Steel Quirk?!" Adds Tetsutetsu in shock.
"It's similar but not exactly the same." Explained Silver.
"What else can it do!?" Kirishima and Tetsutetsu shouted in unison.
"It can work as invisible armor and lets you bypass abnormal defenses, like from a Quirk or Devil Fruit."
"Wait, like bypass intangibility?"
"Yeah, and it allows you to get in a proper hit. Not to mention you can imbue this type of Haki into any object you touch."
To demonstrate, Silver picked up a non-broken stick and transferred some of his Haki into it. The stick soon turned black, light reflecting off it oddly. He walked over to a spare concrete pillar that Cementoss had already made, and smashed it with the stick, crushing a large chunk out of the side, much to the shock of all of the students.
The students marveled at the demonstration. "Can it heal injuries?" asked Mina.
"Nope, and it doesn't protect you from internal damage, either.
Also, it can be overwhelmed by an excessive amount of physical force and needs a bit to recharge once you run out."
"Now tell us about Conqueror's Haki!" Bakugo demanded forcefully.
Silver looks at the explosive quirk user in confusion "And how do you know the name of the Color of the Conqueror?"
"Zato-san helped explain it, Sensei," answered Ochako.
"Huh, he surprised me once again," muttered Silver, before moving on with his lesson, "That particular Haki can't be taught. Only one in several million people are born with this ability."
"What?! So it's a lottery!" exclaimed Monoma, dismayed.
"Yep! You have it or you don't. It can't really be taught, only harnessed," explained Silver, "Right now, we're going to learn how to use Devil Fruits and how to fight a fruit user for. I'll need everyone who ate a Devil Fruit to come up."
Vlad King rolled out a small TV that had 10 groups displayed on the screen. "Anyone whose name shows up - you will be fighting. One Devil Fruit user versus three opponents. Rules for the exercise are simple: each round will be two minutes, you have to pin the Devil Fruit user for 5 seconds for the other team to earn a point. When the 2 minutes are up and the user has not been pinned, they win." Names started to roll. After a minute, the groups were shown to everyone.
Group 1:
Midoriya Izuku vs. Todoroki Shouto, Monoma Neito, and Iida Tenya.
Group 2:
Ashido Mina vs. Sero Hanta, Nirengeki Shoda, and Tokage Setsuna.
Group 3
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu vs Komori Kinoko, Sato Rikido, and Kaibara Sen
Group 4
Yaoyorozu Momo vs. Kaminari Denki, Fukidashi Manga, and Yosetsu Awase
Group 5
Yanagi Reiko vs Bakugo Katsuki, Tsunotori Pony, and Kamakiri Togaru
Group 6
Tokoyami Fumikage vs. Mineta Minoru, Tsuburaba Kosei, and Ojiro Mashirao
Group 7
Uraraka Ochako vs Hiryuu Rin, Kodai Yui, and Jiro Kyouka
Group 8
Hagakure Tooru vs. Bondo Kojiro, Aoyama Yuuga, and Kuroiro Shihai
Group 9
Kendo Itsuka vs. Shishida Jurota, Shiozaki Ibara, and Koda Koji
Group 10
Kirishima Eijirou vs. Shoji Mezou, Asui Tsuyu, and Honenuki Juzo
"Uh, Silver-sensei?" asked Reiko quietly, raising her hand.
"Yes, Gloomy?"
"Isn't it unfair for the match to be three on one?"
"Not really, considering all the ones that are fighting alone ate Devil Fruits. Devil Fruits have versatility, not only in their powers but also the fact that their users also have Quirks. Now, Group 5 and Group 10 are up first. The former will be monitored by me and the latter monitored by Aizawa."
While the assigned groups got up, Kirishima and Reiko weren't sure about how to use their new powers. "Got any advice, Teach?" Kirishima asked, hoping Silver would give him any good advice.
"Don't think, feel."
"The old Bruce Lee quote? Alright."
Kirishima marched up to face Shoji, Tsuyu, and Juzo. The dyed redhead took a deep breath as his face rapidly took on lion-like features before his body fully transformed into a giant, red lion.
(Play OST: UMVC3, Iron Fist Theme)
Shoji launched three of his fists at Kirishima, striking him in the face. However, the redhead tanked the hits, the blows bouncing off his hardened skin with a heavy, but dull thunk. With a mighty roar, Kirishima pounced on Shoji in retaliation, and chomped down on his right shoulder.
Tsu took advantage of Kirishima being occupied by running towards the red haired teen and leaping into the air...
Wham!
Kirishima felt the taste of a hard foot into his cheek. He tried to swat her away, only to find that his paws were sinking into the ground.
"Got him!" Called out Juuzo, touching the ground with his hands.
'How am I supposed to get out of this one?!' wondered Kirishima, struggling in the liquified concrete. However, after a moment, he remembered Silver's mention of hybrid forms for Zoan fruits. Using the newly discovered instincts of changing shape, his body shifted, becoming more humanoid. He then let out a loud roar which caused Juuzo to lose focus, turning the ground solid again. Kirishima leapt towards Juuzo and grabbed him by the waist. He leapt towards Juuzo, grabbed him by the waist, lifted him up and slammed him to the ground, before throwing him at Shoji. Juuzo then smashed into the multi-armed teen, both of them crumpling to the ground.
With two of his opponents down, Kirishima then charged at Tsuyu since she was the only one left standing.
Tsuyu croaked in surprise and tried to leap away. However, Kirishima was much quicker and pinned the frog girl to the ground. Tsuyu squirmed underneath him, cringing away with a ribbit as his hot breath washed over her face. As Tsuyu struggled, trying to figure out how to get out of the pin, an idea occurred .to her. She took a deep breath, and spat a massive wad of mucus into the boy's face.
"Gah!" Kirishima yelped as mucus was launched at his eyes and soon let go of Tsuyu, trying to wipe the spit from his face. He was then blindsided by Juzo, he and Shoji tackling him to the ground. Both boys struggled to hold Kirishima down as he thrashed to get them off him.
"Time! Shoji, Honenuki, and Tsuyu-chan win!" announced Silver, calling off the match.
(End OST)
Juzo and Shoji then released their hold on Kirishima as he turned back into a human. Silver then ran over to the group to give them his observations. "Nice thinking with the mucus attack, Frog-chan," He complimented Tsuyu.
"Thank you, ribbit."
Silver then looked at a very sweaty Kirishima. "Kirishima, I wanted to let you know that while you did alright, you let your wild side control you."
"Oh, sorry about that," Kirishima, rubbing the back of his head.
"Don't apologize to me, apologize to Shoji since you bit him."
Kirishima got up and bowed to Shoji. "I'm very sorry for biting you!"
"No problem, the teeth didn't get too deep." Shoji waved off.
"As a warning, Zoan fruits can be a double-edged sword. While it can enhance your body, you could end up being overwhelmed by a thirst for battle, since yours is a carnivore," explained Silver. He patted Kirishima on the back. "But, as a teacher, it's my job to help you find that control."
Looking over, they saw how Group 5 was doing. Bakugo, Kamakiri, and Pony all lay on the ground, curled up in the fetal position as six ghosts floated around them, chanting, "Negative! Negative!" Reiko stood tall and proud, the clear winner of the match. Almost all the Hero Course students shivered at the power of the Horo Horo no Mi, and took a step back away from Reiko. All but one student marveled at Reiko.
"Revelry in the dark," muttered Tokoyami, a light blush under his black feathers.
End AN: Part 2 will be more action based so stick around to see what's next. I would also want to take a moment of silence for Ichirou Mizuki, the emperor of anime songs, who sadly passed away from lung cancer. May his music continue to inspire generations to come.
