Hello and welcome back to another chapter! I hope you enjoy it!
I don't own RWBY or anything else that might pop up, please support all official releases.
Weiss's POV
Come to find out, we didn't think of everything when we gave orders to the fleet.
Once again, Professor Ozpin reminded the TV and let the audio of some Atlas reporter and Admiral Picard play again.
"Hello? Are we clear to you?" The reporter stated.
"You're coming in clear on this side, yes." The Admiral responded.
"Great, may I ask who I'm speaking to?"
"You are speaking to Admiral John Picard of the RNS Dreadnought, to whom am I speaking to?"
"This is David Wood from Atlas News, would it be alright if I ask you some questions?"
It was silent for a moment before the Admiral responded, "As long as I can ask some of my own."
"Thank you, Admiral. First question, just exactly what Kingdom do you belong to? From what we know, no Kingdom should have this large of a navy."
Again, it was silent before Picard spoke once more, "We don't belong to a single Kingdom, instead, we belong to all of Remnant. You can see that by looking at the flag that we all fly."
At that, the cameraman zoomed in on the top of the superstructure of RNS Dreadnought and just as he said, the flag of Remnant was being flown with all the other Kingdoms flags right below it.
"So you don't hold allegiance to one Kingdom?"
"Affirmative."
"So it's safe to assume that you are the head of the fleet? You don't answer to anyone?"
"No, I do answer to four people. Infact, maybe you can help me locate them." Admiral Picard stated.
"Oh? And just who can these four people be to hold such power over the largest naval fleet Remnants ever seen?"
"We are looking for Team RWBY who should be at Beacon Academy right now. If it helps, their names are Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. We would highly appreciate it if you could point us in their direction."
Professor Ozpin paused at that point.
The room was deathly silent with Professor Goodwitch staring directly at us and taking subtle glances down at Vulpix, who was just looking at her curiously.
Of course we forgot to tell him to not reveal our names! We literally went over everything else other than that and now we get to deal with it.
I'm just going to blame it on just getting out of a life and death battle and being extremely tired not having thought about that. Still doesn't mean I'm pissed at myself for not thinking of it though.
"Well? Mind explaining why you four are in control of a navy or not?" Professor Goodwitch asked, eyes still locked directly with ours.
I could tell, this wasn't going to be fun explaining.
Weiss's POV
"So, what you're telling me is that you four just woke up a few days ago inside a tavern by an AI voice saying that you were selected for a system to try out? And on top of that, god like made this deal and thrusted it upon you all?" Professor Goodwitch asked while rubbing the bridge of her nose.
We all just nodded our heads yes.
With a sigh, she continued, "Well, we can't exactly just tell the people that. There would be absolute pandemonium if this got out."
"But we can't exactly lie, not that everyone on Remnant now knows that we are in control of a fleet." Yang countered, a sigh of her own escaping her lips.
It was silent for a moment before Professor Ozpin spoke up, "I think I just came up with a solution to all our problems." At that, all our heads turned towards him. Seeing that he had our undivided attention, he continued.
"What I suggest is that we explain that you four came into contact with an ancient relic. What it does is exactly what your system does right now, just that it only gives out these powers at random and it only affects you four. It isn't the most concrete explanation, but it should be enough to explain your powers away."
After a moment of silence, I spoke up, "Well, it's better than nothing and it sounds believable enough." Professor Ozpin just nodded, but before he could continue Professor Goodwitch's scroll dinged. It made me think of all the messages that I know I got after this whole fiasco. That made me mentally groan.
Checking it, I saw her eyes go wide before practically shouting at Professor Ozpin, "Quick, unmute the TV!" The urgent tone of her voice was all that Ozpin needed to not even question it.
"I'm sorry Admiral, can you repeat that?" The reporter said, his voice clear with worry.
"I said that I highly recommend to fly away, a huge horde of Grimm coming from both land and sea are making a b-line towards our position, and they're approaching fast." Picard's voice was grim, but there was a resolute tone in there as well.
Silence reigned for a few moments before the reporter responded, "If it's alright, may we stay and observe?"
The radio was silent before Picard answered, "As long as you don't get in the way." His voice left no room for argument.
At that, the radio completely went dead, with the fleet switching to their own channels.
Watching, we saw both the Atlas and Menagerie start sending out squadrons of jets. They looked different from the aircraft from Remnant, with a more sleek and angular design. Carrying six missiles each, they were a deadly threat on their own, but together, they would nearly be unstoppable.
"Care to give us a rundown on each step while we wait?" Professor Ozpin asked, breaking me from my concentration.
Getting right to it, we explained each of our ships as quickly and thoroughly as we could.
By the end Professor Ozpin just smiled, "I thank you for naming a ship after me and my fellow Headmasters."
When we told him that the names were randomly generated, it didn't take the wind out of his sails.
The conversation was broken up by the flash of hundreds of missiles hitting their targets. That got our attention once more.
More and more jets were being sent up until no more took off. Thankfully as well, because not long after, the first batch of jets returned, their missiles and guns depleted.
At this point, the Destroyers, which were all on the outside of the formation, began dropping depth charges and firing explosives into the water. It wasn't long till explosions were heard and Grimm dust started rising from the ocean.
From the depths, Sea Feilong and a multitude of other sea Grimm rise from the oceans, throwing all kinds of elemental attacks and changing straight at the fleet.
The Feilong were the most dangerous of the bunch, but were thankfully the least in number, with there only being seven of them.
That didn't make me any less worried though, Feilong weren't one of the most dreaded Sea Grimm for a reason.
The lightning they spewed from their mouth's predominantly hit the Destroyers, though one did hit a Heavy Cruiser, the Ironwood I noticed.
Thankfully, the ships were made of tough stuff and easily took the attacks, only scorch marks were left behind.
The turrets on the Destroyer's immediately took aim at any Feilong they could and opened fire with reckless abandon.
The barrels must have been loaded with fire dust as the explosion they caused on impact was awe inspiring. Unfortunately, one of the Feilong was lucky and was able to make a dash for one of them, the Sea Cat.
It latched on and sent a particularly strong lightning burst directly at the bridge of the ship. Thankfully the ship took it like a champ and brushed it off like it was nothing. Better yet, the Feilong severally miscalculated its approach and paid the price for it. The sailors manning the AA guns were, understandably, not happy about having lightning shot so close to them, so in response, fire dust round's slammed into the body of the Feilong, killing it almost instantly.
The last of the sea Grimm were just now being mopped up and to call it a massacre was an understatement. The Navy performed exceptionally better than we, or they, thought they would. The insane amounts of Grimm dust dissipating into the air could attest to that.
But the fight wasn't done, not by a long shot.
The second group of planes made it back to their respective carriers and landed as fast as they could. Below, I could see the AA guns on all ships pointing to where they came from, ready to launch lead at any moment. But what really got my attention was Dreadnought's main guns turn towards there as well.
I could see why moments later.
On the horizon was the biggest Grimm I've ever seen.
"What the actual fuck." Yang muttered in a low tone of voice tinged with fear but awe as well upon seeing the flying whale.
It was a testament to how shocked we all were for Ruby or any of the Professors not berating her for it. Even though crude, she was voicing what we all thought.
Glancing, I saw Professor Ozpin mouth something, though I couldn't make out what.
"Girls, I hope that ship of yours packs as big of a punch as you say it does." Professor Goodwitch murmured from behind us, eyes locked directly on the screen.
Shaking my head, I turned back to watch the battle unfold.
The whale, while massive, was slow in its approach towards the fleet. The same couldn't be said for the rest.
Nevermores, Griffons, and a whole slew more of flying Grimm came careening towards the fleet at high speed, intent on killing everyone there. And if I wasn't mistaken, that whale Grimm was even spawning some.
As soon as the first of them crossed an invisible line, AA across all ships fired in rage at the approaching Grimm.
The bullets were all apparently fire dust if the explosions in the air had anything to say about it. It was a good choice as well, because with every hit, parts of the Grimm were completely blown off, sending them to watery depths below before they could do any real damage.
The rate of fire was awe inspiring, a literal wall of fire and explosions engulfed any and all Grimm trying to reach the fleet.
What seemed like hours but was actually minutes went by as the guns fired without stopping. You could only hear the sounds of explosions now, the reporter's voice having long been covered by the sounds.
Finally, after countless minutes of repetitious AA fire, the guns went silent.
When the wall of smoke that covered part of the battlefield finally dissipated, it was made clear that the next wave was minutes out before they were in range of AA once again.
At that moment, the radio cracked and the voice of the Admiral, whose voice sounded a whole lot more horse, came back on.
"I would highly recommend covering your ears right now. It's about to get loud. I would also suggest getting the cameras ready, we're about to see that whale sink to the bottom of the sea where it belongs." With that, the channel went quiet once more.
The reporter shouted to the pilot to hover while simultaneously directing the cameraman to get the shot possible of what was about to happen.
Dreadnought's guns were aimed directly at the whale, all but roaring a challenge at the beast. Picard came on one more time to tell that they were launching rounds in thirty seconds.
Everyone leaned forward, not wanting to miss a single second of what was about to happen. It was the longest thirty seconds of my life, but finally…
*BOOOOM!*
The sixteen, twenty-two-inch guns of Dreadnought roared out, shaking the Bullhead the reporter and the camera was in, even at their distance.
Dreadnought herself moved at least fifty feet in the other direction from the shock wave of the broadside she unleashed; I'm sure there were more than a few crewmen thrown to the floor from it.
But it was worth it.
The shells impacted and the whale was immediately covered in an explosion, preventing sight of the creature for a moment.
The results were made clear soon enough.
From the clouds, the whale descended to earth. The entire front of its body was completely gone, the only remnant being the tail of the beast. It felt like hours as we all watched as the last bits of the creature hit the water and dissipated into the air.
It was silent for a moment… before the school itself started to shake.
There were loud cries of victory and cheers all around Beacon, celebrating the killing of the absolutely gargantuan whale Grimm.
Ruby couldn't contain herself any longer and launched herself from her seat and joined along with them all. The rest of us weren't far behind.
We jumped and shouted, hugging and kissing one another in victory, not even taking the Professors in the room into account. That was, until Professor Ozpin cleared his throat and got our attention.
"I must say, I'm extremely impressed with your ship's performance. Whatever I was expecting, this was not it. This cleared my expectations by a mile." He said with a truly sincere and massive smile.
"I think we just found our way to bring the fight to the Grimm. Go on back to your dorm, I'm sure you have tons of people to contact about your new powers anyway." The way he said that last bit made it seem like he enjoyed the way our faces paled at realizing the ungodly amount of calls we would surely receive.
At that moment, the radio onboard the reporter's Bullhead came back to life, getting all our attention.
"This is the RNS Summer Rose to Dreadnought on all channels, we have a message for you." The Captain of the Summer Rose spoke. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Professor Ozpin's eyes light up at the name.
"This is Dreadnought, what's your message?" Picard asked.
The radio was silent for a moment before the Captain said, "Temper, temper." Before going silent. We were all left confused but Picard, and from what I could tell, the whole entire bridge of Dreadnought got a real good laugh out of it. Thinking on it further, it was actually quite funny and it seemed the others agreed as well.
"Well," Professor Ozpin started, "you four best be on your way, I'm sure we all have much to do now." At that, we solemnly nodded our heads, getting a chuckle from Ozpin.
"Well, let's go, I'm sure dad's called us a hundred times by now Ruby." Yang said while walking towards the door. Ruby moaned in a way that all but told she would be on her scroll for at least an hour just to reassure her dad. Walking out, I thought about whether we could get back to our room without being stopped.
I was wrong, we got stopped near constantly.
Well, took longer than expected, but I hoped you enjoyed nonetheless!
So, we got to show off the navy, finally. Been waiting to do that for a while now. I hope I did it justice and I hoped you enjoyed it!
If you didn't, let me know, that way I will know how to do better on it. If you liked it, also let me know as it will only motivate me further!
There was also a reference to naval history in there, shoot a comment if you spotted it!
But, that's all I got for you, so until next time, and have an amazing day!
