No One's POV
Seconds felt like an eternity for the four friends that stared at the stage in pure disbelief. What was supposed to be a day of partying and fun quickly revealed itself to be what occurs in a nightmare. Screams pierced their eardrums as people were becoming more frantic and aware of the situation at hand. A murder had just happened and no one knew who could be next. This was a fight for survival for them. "¡Qué mierda real! ¡¿Está sucediendo esto realmente?! (What the actual fuck! Is this really happening?!)" Sarita couldn't move her eyes away from the stage as countless people bumped into her. She had almost been knocked over if it wasn't for Victoria catching her fall. No one knew what to do at this moment. Mickie's breathing was becoming louder and faster as her eyes fixated on the hand of the corpse. Her body remained frozen in place until a hand grabbed onto her and started pulling her away. It was Daisy, her other hand grabbed onto her girlfriend and she made a mad dash toward their escape. The redhead wasn't going to sit around and wait to see how this plays out. She intended to protect everyone around her and get away safely. "Estoy tan asustado! (I am so scared!)" Sarita had been the only one that spoke since what happened although it wasn't in English. The others couldn't understand what the Latina was saying but the fear in her eyes told a similar story to them. She was terrified.
Mickie couldn't understand how her security guard was acting so fearless in such a situation. Daisy wasn't trained for this extreme of circumstances, but here she was, running full force into what could be a death trap. The redhead would be willing to defend herself and her friends and knock people over if need be. She doesn't want to resort to violence. Daisy looked around for the best route of escape. The brunette managed to look at both Sarita and Victoria, and that's whenever the realization hit her. Not everyone was here with them. "Daiz, we can't leave! Gabi and Blaire are out there somewhere! They could be in danger too!" She pulled her hand free from her security guard, pointing back in the direction that the two blondes had gone for drinks.
The singer didn't wait for her bodyguard to respond, she turned her heels and was daring to run toward the mass of panicked people. All of this for two girls she's only known for a couple days. One of them had her feelings all over the place, she had just asked Blaire out on a date. She really liked this girl, Mickie could feel deep down that the blonde cowgirl is just what she might need. The other is Blaire's best friend, someone that Mickie was starting to really like as well. She refused to leave without them. Before such an idiotic act could be attempted, Daisy grabbed the brunette's hand and spun her around. "Listen Mick, I am getting you guys to safety first. They will hopefully meet us at the car, they are smart enough to do that, I hope.."
"We will find them Mickers, don't worry. Let's get to the car first so we can think with a more level head." Victoria managed to voice her reasoning to her best friend, understanding completely where she's coming from. She's also worried for Gabi and Blaire as well. "I don't think Blaire or Gabi would want you risking your safety for them."
Mickie knew that her friend was right, but she didn't want to sit idly by and wait for them in the car. Plus they had no idea who's lying dead on the stage right now. What if it was someone she knew? Her heart sank at the next thought, was it possibly one of them? No. There's no way. Right? They hadn't been gone very long. Mickie shook her head, those illogical thoughts away. "But-"
Whatever words were going to be spoken never left her lips, her eyes ended up looking at the stage. They were closer than they were before, sadly they had to go this way in order to escape. "Mick! Let's go!.." Now Mickie was able to get a closer look at the corpse. All the brunette was really able to see was all the blood that covered the body. It made her sick to her stomach, her body refused to move.. Who the hell was that? "Mickie!" Daisy had called out to her friend once again falling on deaf ears. The traumatizing situation is making the singer shut down which is a fairly normal reaction. "Fuck it." The redhead closed the distance between her and Mickie, she reached down to Mickie's leg and scooped them. Mickie gasped realizing that she was being moved, it snapped her out of her thoughts. Her security guard was now running with the smaller woman now in her arms, bridal style.
"The main door to get to the back parking lot is locked babe! Which way do we go?" Victoria had a feeling that some of the stagehands probably locked it to make sure no one could get inside. It's reasonable but it screws everyone else over. What if the killer is back there with them? What if the killer is still lurking around watching the chaos unfold? The only other way would be out toward the main area, where lots of frantic people were. This was the quickest way to the parking lot. Victoria hit on the door a couple times, hoping and praying that someone would answer. The redhead looked over to her girlfriend and gave a smile, gesturing to the two of them and then the door. The raven haired woman knew what her lover wanted to do, "Alright, let's do this. Mickie, hang on tight."
"Wha-" Daisy and Victoria didn't give the brunette any time to ask questions, they both delivered a kick to the door. Even with Mickie still in her arms, the redhead and her girlfriend were able to have enough strength to open the door. "Holy shit, you guys are amazing!" Mickie couldn't believe that the pair had managed to kick down a door with such ease. They were pretty strong individually but together, they were pretty unstoppable. All of them hoped that Gabrielle and Blaire were safe too. None of them have gotten a text message or a call, but in this scenario, no one would be thinking clearly to do that. Mickie pulled her phone out of her pocket while still being in Daisy's arms, she wanted to at least communicate the plan to Blaire. She didn't have Gabi's number yet so the brunette hoped that Blaire and Gabi were safe together…
Around the Same Time..
Blaire paced around impatiently at the bar while the bartender gathered up the multiple drinks that her friends had requested. It had taken them several minutes to just get to the front of the line. She was on cloud nine right now, this day seemed like a beautiful dream. The blonde had finally gotten to spend some alone time with Mickie. She thought it was going to be an impossible feat but thankfully it happened. She got to meet one of Mickie's friends that was performing right at this very moment. All Blaire wanted to do right now was spoil the brunette with what little money she had left. Her hand reached up to the top of her head where her flower crown sat, Blaire couldn't help but smile big. "I hope that we aren't missing too much of the performance, I need to get back to my Darling.." Blaire thought back to whenever they were taking all those cute pictures today, she managed to secure another kiss from her favorite singer. That's whenever it hit her, the blonde cowgirl had yet to tell her best friend the news. "Oh em Gee! Can you really believe that my Goddess asked me out on a date?! I thought I was going to become a puddle on the floor!"
Gabi wasn't surprised at the fact that the singer had asked Blaire out on a date but instead on how fast Mickie did. From their drunken conversation the night prior, it seems the brunette is already really fond of the blonde cowgirl. She concluded that Mickie must have taken her advice from last night. "See! I told you, everything is going to work out. You just needed to be yourself and Mickie can't help but like you back." Gabrielle knew that Blaire really had a chance with the singer and the blonde was rightfully nervous. 'Her celebrity crush practically fell into her lap; they have a mutual crush on each other, Blaire just needs to keep doing what she's doing and all should go well. I am really glad that I got to have that talk with Mickie and understand her feelings a bit more.' Gabrielle smiled at the thought of the budding romance, she sipped on her water and asked, "Do you know when the date is going to be?"
Blaire tapped her chin for a second, trying to remember the entire conversation. "Not yet. Sugar Plum has to see whenever she is free. I don't mind waiting for however long it takes, my Goddess is so worth it. You know that I am gonna worship the fuck out her!" The blonde couldn't resist saying such a vulgar statement out loud, knowing that it would get underneath Gabrielle's skin. She thought back to their first meeting, how both of them were thinking similar thoughts. If things would have gone differently without interruptions, there might have been much more intimacy. Perhaps Mickie and Blaire would have only been a one night stand instead of being friends first. The blonde cowgirl nodded her head in excitement, she couldn't get over how surreal this felt.
Gabrielle looked over at the blonde cowgirl with narrowed eyes. She wasn't going to respond to that last statement, it was a pointless endeavor. "I could deal without knowing that, B. Let's go back to the others." Both of the blondes didn't know how long they had been away from the others, and wanted to get back quickly. Blaire wanted to get back to Mickie's side especially after what happened earlier with Trish. A psychotic ex girlfriend that was trying to steal her Darling away from her. If Daisy hadn't stepped in whenever she had, Blaire was eager to teach the brunette a lesson. No one will ever touch Mickie like that whenever she's around.
"Speaking of dates and stuff like that, I think Sarita really wants you or to at least smash. You should totally let her at least take you out or something, you never know." The shorter blonde decided to tease her best friend, playfully nudging her in the side. She was happy that Gabrielle was easily making friends with Mickie's friends as well. Blaire noticed that the Latina had taken a particular interest in her best friend. She doesn't know Sarita all that well but she seems like a pretty cool chick.
Gabi looked over toward Blaire with confused eyes, wanting to argue about everything involving this group being sexual. Why couldn't she be friends with people? Gabrielle thought back to what transpired earlier with that pervert grabbing her ass. The taller blonde didn't even have time to react to what was going on, Sarita was already in his face. The words that were shouted fell on deaf ears and the Latina kicked him in the nuts and slapped him around a good bit too. The only thing that stopped Sarita was the redhead security guard that defused the situation. Gabrielle was grateful for the assistance, her cheeks heated up upon remembering that. She mumbled under her breath. Why did something like that matter? "I-" Screaming filled the air as they walked out of the bar area, dozens of people were running toward the exits. Both blonde were confused at this sight, but it looked like the mad mob of people were coming from Elias's set. "Wait, what's going on?" More panic ensued as others were learning about what transpired on the stage moments prior. 'This isn't good.'
"Those people looked like they were running from Elias's concert." Blaire's thought immediately went to the wellbeing of her Goddess. What if something bad happened to her due to the careless nature of these strangers? "Let's get back to the others!" Before Gabrielle could let out a retort, the taller blonde had someone run into her. It caused her to stagger, knocking a couple of the drinks out of her hands and onto the ground below. Blaire turned around hearing the glass hitting the floor and another stranger ran into Gabi. She would have fallen if it wasn't for her best friend preventing her fall. "Hey bud! Watch where you are going!" The blonde shouted angrily, grabbing onto the man's wrist and pulling him around to face the blonde. Blaire wasn't going to take this rudeness lightly, "I am talking to you buddy, now apologize and tell us what's going on?" No one messes with her best friend.
The man stared at both of the women like he had just witnessed something paranormal. His face was completely drained of color, he finally managed to part his lips after seconds of silence. "Sorry ladies.. I-.. There's a body.. on the stage of Elias's concert. Someone was murdered here." Time seemed to freeze as both of the women stared at the man in disbelief. There was no way that something like that happened here. Gabrielle swallowed hard, observing the crowd of panicked masses. She always heard stories about horrible things like this but now, it's happened around her. "I am getting the fuck out of here and you should too. Be safe!"
Everything was starting to make sense to the pair of women that stared at the fleeing stranger that gave them the information needed. Gabrielle felt her heart beating so hard that it might burst from her chest, her breathing becoming difficult to maintain. She felt dizzy. "Sugar Plum needs me!" Blaire shouted up, practically throwing all the drinks to the ground to run toward the crowd of people. She was willing to knock down anyone that stopped her from getting to the brunette. She managed a couple steps until a hand grabbed the back of her shirt. She spun around with a scowl, wondering who put their hands on her. The scowl instantly disappeared upon seeing that it was Gabi, Blaire was confused at this action. "Wha- Oh hey Gabi, what'cha do that for?"
"Don't be reckless, B. I am not letting you go into a crowd of people and get yourself hurt. Think about it, Mickie isn't alone. They will make sure nothing happens to her. Let's meet them at the car."
"But-"
"Would you want Mickie risking her safety to save you?"
"No-"
"Then I imagine she wouldn't want you to do the same, they will meet us at the car." Gabrielle managed to speak logically despite the situation at hand, Blaire begrudgingly admitted defeat. The best friends held each other's hands as they ran the opposite direction from the fleeing crowd. Blaire led the way. There weren't many ways to the VIP parking area but the blonde cowgirl remembered an area that she and Mickie went to during their first meeting. It was past the bar area near some of the booths. They had snuck away to talk privately after Mickie's disguise failed miserably. The cowgirl remembered seeing the same parking lot they arrived at in the distance.
Realistically the girls could probably run back to their hotel rooms if the action was needed but the blondes, more specifically Blaire, wouldn't leave until she knew about the singer's wellbeing. The blue eyed blonde navigated the pair through all the booths and back toward the barricade dividing the sections apart. Without a second thought, they moved it toward the side and ran past. Within a minute, the duo were able to make it to the parking lot where some cars had already left the scene. Daisy's car was still present however they were the only people present. "They aren't here yet. We gotta go back for them!" Blaire exclaimed, her face emphasizing the panic she was feeling.
"B.." Gabrielle folded her arms across her chest, she was doing her best to cease the trembling her body was doing. What would have happened if the shorter woman hadn't had caught her? Her thoughts are going to the worst outcome of her being trampled by the panicked crowd. This situation was truly terrifying. "Wait a little longer.. Please. I know they will show up." Blaire clicked her lips together, wanting to protest but didn't, she knew that her best friend needed her more. Both blondes leaned against the car, exhausted while their eyes stayed glued to the entrance to the set areas. Seconds turned into a couple minutes with no one showing up. Blaire was getting impatient, she could hear the police sirens in the distance. The cowgirl didn't want to think the worst that something happened to her new friends. She closed her eyes until she heard Gabrielle speak. "See I told you.."
The confused blonde opened her eyes to see all four women coming toward them, she let out a gasp. Gabrielle sighed in relief although both blondes noticed that Mickie was being carried by Daisy. They both immediately thought that Mickie had gotten injured by the crowd but those thoughts washed away as the singer was put down by her security guard. "Guys, oh thank god, you are both okay!" Without hesitation, the brunette made a dash toward her new friends with a tidal wave of relief washing over her. She had been worried sick that they wouldn't make it back here or hear about what happened. Fighting back the tears, Mickie pulled the girls into an embrace. "We were worried sick about you guys!"
After a few seconds, Gabi removed herself from the embrace and looked over toward the one that was walking up to her, Sarita. The fiery brunette didn't have any smart remark to see which told the blonde everything she needed to know. All of them were traumatized by the event but many others witnessed it first hand. Blaire wanted to hold onto Mickie for dear life and never let go. The embrace between the pair lasted a little longer as the shorter blonde spoke, "Sugar Plum! Thank heavens, I was so worried.."
"I am fine. We are fine." The singer clarified, releasing the embrace instead opting to hold Blaire's hand for comfort. Sarita leaned against the car next to Gabrielle. Mickie's brown eyes directed her attention over toward the couple. She noticed that her security guard was on her knees, sweating profusely as the redhead looked to be struggling to catch her breath. "Daiz-"
Daisy didn't even give her boss the chance to finish what she was saying, the redhead knew that Mickie would feel some guilt about this. She'd find a way to blame herself for freezing at the sight of the body. It was a natural reaction. "I am fine Mick. Don't worry about me, this was nothing." The redhead tried to play it cool as Victoria was working on helping her lover to her feet.
Victoria resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her girlfriend's lying, the raven haired woman knew instantly that she was overdoing it. It was her style. She made sure that Daisy was able to stand alone; she held out her hand. "Give me your keys sweetie, I am driving." The security guard arched a brow over to her girlfriend. She parted her lips to speak but Victoria pressed a finger against them. "Don't argue with me, Missy." Daisy let out a small scoff, begrudgingly digging into her pockets. She hands the older woman the keys, Victoria gives a pleased grin. She gives Daisy a small peck on the lips before turning to the others. "Get in the car, I don't care who sits where." The others didn't really argue with that logic, the four climbed into the backseat with Mickie once again sitting on Blaire's lap. Everyone was able to breathe a small sigh of relief knowing that they escaped that hell as the police sirens grew louder and louder.
A couple minutes later..
Traffic was hell entering into the festival that had thousands in attendance, as multiple police officers entered the scene from the VIP in the back of the establishment. They arrived as fast as possible upon receiving the distress call but with hundreds of people already fleeing the scene, it makes interrogating that much more difficult. It was expected. The task of calming that many people with the strong possibility of a murderer being amongst them was merely impossible. The officers were well aware of this scenario upon receiving multiple calls about what had transpired. It sounded like something from a television show but here multiple policemen stood baffled. One woman in particular had been called specifically to investigate the crime scene. She exhaled a sharp breath, mentally preparing herself for whatever the woman was going to look at. If she had been called here, there is a possibility of what she's going to be dealing with. "Tell me, what information have you been able to gather about the victim thus far? Do we have a name?"
The officer crouched down and with her glove she gently pulled back the sheet to look at the victim's face. The lifeless green eyes stared back at the police woman as she reached over to gently close them. She pulled down the sheet some more to see what appeared to be the main cause of death. Her throat was slit so wide, death would have been almost instant for the poor girl. "Yes ma'am, the victim was identified as twenty year old, Toni Storm. She was a volunteer stagehand for the festival and was helping with Elias's set."
"So young.. What a tragedy. What other information do you have about Miss Storm? Considering that Samson's performance was whenever the corpse was revealed, that should narrow down the potential window of whenever the murder took place." The longer the woman stared at the corpse, the less things made sense to her. 'There was a rag that was shoved into the victim's mouth to gag her and muffle her sounds. Since the body was discovered before it entered rigor mortis, the muscles were not stiff enough to keep it in place. However if the cause of death was slitting the throat, why would such a thing matter?' The police officer continued to pull down the sheet, noticing multiple stab wounds and slices all over the body. 'Twenty one.. Twenty two.. Twenty three.. Twenty three stab wounds and eight cuts from her torso down to her lower thighs. Her clothes were never torn so there doesn't seem to be any initial sign of sexual assault. But if my deduction so far is correct, this isn't a random act of violence; this is personal.'
"Talking to the other stage hands, Toni's behavior was no different than any other day. In fact, she seemed to be happier than usual. She had a special pep to her step as they described. She was last seen about two hours ago before Elias went on stage, most assumed she went home for the evening." He gave her all the information that he managed to gather in the few minutes being on the scene. No one has thoroughly examined the body or any of her belongings. That was her job until the coroner arrived to take the body for an autopsy.
"I see, thank you Mustafa." Her attention drifted back up to the victim's neck as she gently tilted the head to the side. 'There is slight discoloration to the skin which meant bruising, so the murderer had their hands wrapped around her neck. The marks were consistent with strangulation. The slit throat could simply confuse our investigation. That would be the obvious deduction upon seeing this body.' She wasn't ready to relay her hypothesis to the other detectives just yet, she had a hunch that this wasn't an average murder scene. "We have a two hour window to deduce what could have happened to our victim and how her body managed to get secured into the banner." The banner would have been one of the last things set up for Elias's performance and it would take multiple people to set up. How would no one notice the weight? "Mustafa, whoever set up the banner would be our prime suspect. The other theory I have is that someone put the corpse in there after the initial setup or they have knowledge about how these kinds of festivals work."
"I'll talk to everyone that worked on the stage of Elias's performance, I will also talk to Elias himself to see if he can provide any insight." The officer known as Mustafa decided it was best to leave the detective to her work and went backstage to interview anyone possible, just one clue is all that is needed to get ahead.
The woman in uniform stared down at the corpse, deciding to gently lift the shirt up enough to see her waistline. It was then that she felt her heart stop, everything was making sense now. Carved skillfully into the abdomen of the victim were two symbols, one on each side of the pelvis. The first wouldn't make a bit of sense to anyone else other than her, it was merely a circle with a dot in the middle. The second symbol was an eye inside a pyramid looking triangle. Her hunch was correct. 'The Eye of Providence has always been a mark of theirs, it's like they are constantly taunting me with such a thing. The Circled Dot is new but they are conveying the same message. This person sees themselves as a God or some divine entity. It's sickening. But this pattern certainly is unlike them, three victims within the span of three days. Something has transpired to make their behavior change. No. They are becoming more confident of their ability to murder and get away with it. However..' The left pocket in the jeans seemed to contain some items that hadn't been seized yet. She pulled out what seemed to be a cell phone, a small wallet and a sheet of paper. The wallet had nothing of importance to the investigation, two twenty dollar bills, a debit card and her ID. Next was the piece of paper that was folded neatly in the pocket although the crimson splatter on the paper told a different story. This was planted by the killer. She sighed, opening the paper and written in crimson was.. 'Gets all up in your head and keeps you up at night.' "Damn it! I am sick and tired of your games." She cursed, taking off her hat for a brief moment, and ran her hand through her dark locks.
"Oi babe, what ya need me to do?" A new feminine voice called out in friendly and unprofessional fashion. The police officer let out a sigh as she looked up at her partner with a deadpan expression on her face. The woman had a pale complexion and medium length black hair that went past her shoulders. She stood at about five and a half feet tall.
"Daffney, I told you to never call me that again." Daffney Spruill has been on the police force for about six years now. She had a very unorthodox way of thinking which has come in handy for several cases and is known to be a master of disguise. The raven haired woman has a plethora of accents mastered to perfection and tons of outfits for the job. The pair had to go undercover assignment about two years back as a couple and ever since then, the pet name 'babe' has stuck around.
Officer Spruill let out a scoff as she leaned over and snatched both the cell phone and the wallet out of her partner's grasp. "Tisk tisk, so touchy, let me assist ya, gimme this." The raven haired woman arched her brow, cocking her head at the phone screen. The lock on the cellular device looked to have a pin of six numbers. This could be a simple task or they would need a technical expert to bypass the lock. Daffney scratched her forehead, flipping over the wallet to examine its content. She typed in a couple numbers but didn't get it the first time however the second time the police officer had succeeded in unlocking the phone. "Well I have gained access to the victims cellphone. How does it feel to have a genius on your team?" Daffney stated with the utmost confidence.
The other officer looked back up at the raven haired woman. "Her passcode was her birthday, wasn't it?" She wasn't very impressed by her partner's antics. That was the first thing she was going to attempt before the other officer stole the phone.
"You couldn't have pretended to be amazed by my skills of deduction!"
"Whatever." A chuckle escaped her knowing that Daffney was trying to lighten the mood a tad; it's a serious situation at hand, this serial killer has already struck again. 'To do such a thing in a massive public area is definitely against their normal MO. In fact it's the complete opposite of the profile I have given them beforehand. This is rather bothersome. Are they attempting such methods to confuse me or are they taunting me? The killer could easily blend into the crowd and walk out scott free. Hell, we could have walked past them on the way in.' The officer continued to look down at the piece of paper, reading over the lines once again. The words meant nothing to the police woman. Was this some kind of message? It was possible that this note was simply to stir the pot even further and means absolutely nothing. "This is definitely the work of the Devil's Advocate, however comparing this victim to the double murder, it seems odd."
"You are referring to the cause of death and how the crime scene is set up. Mister Copeland's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head meanwhile Miss Dumas had been stabbed twice in the stomach before getting shot in the head. Seems rather strange.." Daffney remembered the investigation being a bit different compared to the usual regarding this case. This serial killer had claimed over a hundred victims at this point in the span of around four years. 'That crime scene was too clean compared to a majority of the others. Copeland looked like he was shot while he was sound asleep. Dumas must have woken up at the sound of the gunshot. Why wouldn't the killer just shoot her? Why would they go through the trouble of punishing her and risk getting caught? It wasn't the normal torture methods we have seen thus far. Could that one be a cheap intimation? We don't release all the information regarding the case to the public so how would they know about the symbol? They are playing us for a fool, damn bastard.'
"Precisely, Miss Storm has twenty three stab wounds, eight cuts, bruising on her neck and her throat slit. I believe the cause of death is potentially strangulation along with succumbing to the stab wounds. After her passing, the assailant slit her throat to throw off the investigation. The bastard made the symbols on the pelvis and wrote this note in the victim's blood."
"Oi, it's like they are taunting us, that sick fucker." Daffney angrily voiced her thoughts on the situation. It was weighing heavily on her mind. This wasn't making sense, after numerous investigations and victims. They haven't figured out anything except a hypothetical profile for the killer. No evidence has ever been found. The raven haired woman steered her focus onto the victim's phone as she went through the text messages within the past day or so. She messaged her mother and a couple friends but other than that, it seemed dry. "The text messages seem to be normal for any young adult woman. Nothing here screams 'I'm going to murder you'." Daffney decided to look at the pictures and one thing in particular caught her eye. "Hm? This is interesting. Babe, take a look at this, could it be a lead?"
"Stop calling me.. Wait.. that's.." The lead officer stared at the photo dumbfounded as the person in the photo was definitely a familiar face. She reached over and grabbed the phone, and looked at whenever the photo was taken. The date was today and it was about an hour before the other volunteers claimed they hadn't seen the victim since. Letting out a sigh, the officer stood to her feet, giving one last sympathetic look at the corpse below her. This was the only lead for now and she was going to do whatever it took to bring the bastard to justice. This photo could help add pieces to the puzzle and the officers were missing a lot. "Come on, Daffney, we are going to investigate this lead further."
At Mickie's House..
No one really said a word as the six of them rode in the car on the way home. Shock washed over all their smiles, what was supposed to be a fun day will forever be remembered as a nightmare. It all happened so fast for them, one minute they were waiting to hear Elias sing and the next moment, a body crashed onto the floor. Mickie was thankful that she didn't initially see it like some of the others but that mangled hand still stayed engraved in the back of her mind. How could someone do such a thing? Who was it? Were they able to catch the person responsible? Thinking about the entire thing made Mickie's stomach twist in knots, she felt like she was going to vomit. Blaire sat beside the singer on the sofa, trying to digest what happened herself. The blonde cowgirl wasn't there to witness what happened personally but their other people's perspective she understood. Her baby blue eyes locked onto her Goddess, who had tucked her knees close to her chest, almost like she's protecting herself. Such a heinous thing would be traumatizing to see. Blaire reached over and gently wrapped her arms around the brunette. She pulled her closer to cuddle her, Mickie gave the petite blonde a smile, wiping the lone tear that rolled down her cheek. Gabrielle sat in the loveseat, her eyes scanning the room. Her heart was frantically beating trying to think of a solution to make things better but was coming up blank. The adrenaline of running through the crowd of people is still flowing through her. The panicked screams of strangers echoing in her ears. The taller blonde wasn't there whenever it happened, she could only imagine how bad the others were doing. Sarita sat at the other end of the loveseat, her eyes closed for a majority of the time they had been home. Her mumbling was incoherent to the rest of the girls, truth be told, the latina didn't have an idea what she was trying to say either. Sarita looked over to the taller of the blondes, "Gabi, can I have a hug? Just for a bit.. I promise, no funny business." It was almost like a plea as the farm girl didn't even protest due to the situation at hand. She pulled the latina close to her as she almost heard choked sobs escape the older woman.
Daisy was the only one not sitting down in the house. Her adrenaline was still running full speed. Thankfully her instincts managed to kick in instantly after she was able to digest what had happened. Her first thought was to protect those present and that's what the redhead did. Sure she had been in tense situations before being a bodyguard and all but nothing like this. It was a terrifying experience. The redhead looked over to her lover, who uncharacteristically hadn't spoken a word either. The raven haired woman sat in the chair, her body trembling at what happened. Everything felt so surreal to her, she couldn't believe that happened. The security guard walked over to the chair and leaned down. "Are you okay, babe? You're still shaking.. It's okay, I am right here." Her tender touch to her girlfriend's cheek was enough to snap Victoria back into reality..
Victoria wasn't sure how to feel about the situation at hand, she wanted to be strong for everyone else but her body wouldn't stop shaking. Whenever the corpse landed on the stage, her body was frozen in place, she couldn't move. Her heart felt like it was going to explode out of her chest. It was her girlfriend that acted so quickly and saved them from being knocked over and trampled by the panicked crowd or worse. She didn't want to think of that last part. Her tired, puffy eyes looked up at her girlfriend, who tried her best to give a reassuring smile. "I'll be alright, thanks to you babe." She managed to utter out, leaning up to give Daisy a small peck on the lips.
Instead of sitting with her girlfriend, the redhead walked back over toward the kitchen to fetch a bottle of water. Mickie watched her best friend pace back and forth for a minute or so before speaking again. "Daisy.. You really pulled through for us, I don't know how you are so composed after all that.. I never could." There were small mumbles in agreement from the other girls at the redhead's quick thinking. Daisy didn't really didn't give a verbal response, instead she gave a small smile. The singer wanted to add onto how proud she was of her security guard's actions until something caught her eye. She watched the redhead's hand tremble almost uncontrollably and that's whenever it dawned on Mickie. Daisy was just as terrified as everyone else in the room, she was just keeping a strong face about it. 'That's always her style.. I wish she'd open up about her feelings more.' The brunette thought to herself, almost feeling a burst of guilt about putting everyone in that horrible situation. If they would have just stayed here, then none of that would have happened, right? None of them would have witnessed that. Mickie's stomach twisted into knots once again, a wave of nausea surged through her. Gently tapping the cowgirl's forearm, Blaire understood that Mickie wanted to stand up and released the taller brunette much to her dismay. The singer walked over toward the kitchen until a knock on the door made everyone freeze. Daisy let out a sigh, begrudgingly heading over to greet the unexpected visitor. That was until Mickie grabbed her arm. "Please, sit down and rest, I'll get the door." The brunette gave her a comforting smile; she reached down to Daisy's hand and gave it a soft squeeze. The security guard surprisingly obliged her request and went to join her lover on the sofa.
Mickie heard another knock at the door and faint mumbling on the other side of the door. The voice was one that the singer couldn't recognize off hand however that was answered when the door was opened. Two women in police uniforms stood in the doorway, Mickie would have been confused, maybe even nervous about this encounter if it wasn't for one of the women standing right in front of her. "Oh hey Katarina!" The brunette exclaimed with excitement upon seeing her friend, which got the attention of all the others in the house. "I am surprised that you are off early.."
"Nice to see you chipper as usual, love, considering what happened at the festival." Katarina could sense the tense atmosphere in the household without even taking a step inside. Mickie wasn't surprised that the raven haired woman knew about what happened at the festival, it's literally her job. Both women followed Mickie into the house, everyone seemed to be torn up about what happened today. It was a natural reaction to something as scary as this. Multiple pairs of eyes looked up to meet the German woman's gaze. "I came here for multiple reasons but more importantly at this moment, are you guys okay?"
Daisy and Victoria both gave weak smiles, mumbling a small yeah to their friend. Sarita was less verbal compared to the others that witnessed the tragedy themselves, she gave a weak thumbs up. Blaire gave a 'yeah' but was way more concerned about Mickie's wellbeing than her own. Katarina looked over to Gabrielle since she was the only one besides the singer who hadn't answered. The taller blonde stared back at the police officer for a moment, giving a nod of acknowledgement. Her attention went back to the floor right after. "As well as we can be."
The raven haired woman exhaled, giving a weak smile toward her friends. Upon hearing what happened, her thoughts immediately went to her friends, knowing they would be at that festival. There were hundreds.. no thousands of people in attendance so the odds of the victim being one of them were practically zero. But those thoughts ran rampant in Kat's mind until she could confirm it. The officer rarely admitted it out loud but her friends meant everything to her. Katarina gestured over to the slightly shorter officer to her left, who hadn't said a word since entering the home. "That's a relief. Allow me to introduce you ladies to my partner, this is Officer Daffney Spruill."
"Congratulations, she's gorgeous!" Blaire exclaimed, clapping her hands together. Katarina clicked her lips together staring over at the blonde for a moment. She wasn't well acquainted with the petite blonde yet so Katarina was unsure if this was a joke or not. Some of the other ladies chuckled at the blonde's naivety.
"I like this one, I like her spunk!" Daffney let out a laugh, pointing over toward Blaire.
"I don't think she means partner in a romantic sense, B." Gabi politely made an attempt to correct her friend. Mouthing an 'I'm sorry' over to Katarina, before looking away from the police officer.
The shorter police woman slung her arms around her co worker's shoulder, causing Katarina to look toward her with curiosity. "Of course not, she keeps rejecting me but anyways, babe, let's get to the real reason why we are here."
Katarina wanted to make a retort about Daffney's previous statement but decided against it. There wasn't any time to proceed with such pointless bickering. However Spruill was right, she needs to now focus on the task at hand. "Very well then, there is another reason why we decided to personally pay you a visit after what happened. We believe that you ladies might hold some important information regarding the homicide and I need any information you have relating to today." This really made everyone's attention focus solely on Katarina as most of them were confused on how that was possible. "More specifically to you Mickie, we have evidence to show that you interacted with the victim roughly three hours before the body was discovered." It was the first time that Katarina spoke more like Officer Waters instead of their friend.
That got eyes to deflect over toward the brunette, who stared back at Kat baffled on the information she just received. "I interacted with someone, right before they were murdered.. What? That doesn't sound…real..." Her inner thoughts were spoken out loud as that nauseous feeling was starting to stir in her core. Was this unknown guilt she was feeling justified after all?
"My Darling did nothing wrong!" Blaire decided that enough was enough, she hated the accusations that were getting thrown around at her Goddess. Her Darling could never do anything wrong and plus she was with Mickie for a majority of the afternoon. Mickie walked back over to the sofa and sat down beside Blaire, soothing the blonde that everything was okay.
Spruill decided not to ignore the defensive outburst from the blonde woman. She reached into her pants pocket and pulled out the cell phone recovered from the body. "We never stated that she did, Miss James is merely a key witness and we have this photo here to prove our claims as factual."
Daffney turned the phone so Mickie and Blaire could see what photograph the police officers were referring too. The second that the singer laid eyes on the photo, she felt her heart sink through her body. She let out a sharp gasp, "That's Toni.. You are telling me that Toni.." Katarina parted her lips to speak but remained silent, the confirmation Mickie needed was gained through the officer's sympathetic blue eyes. 'Toni's dead. That sweet young girl.. And we were some of the last people to see her alive. Who would do such a thing!' The brunette fought back some sniffles and tears forming in the corner of her eyes. She barely knew the blonde but yet, her heart really hurts.
"That is correct, love. I am sorry to relay this information to you and I am not sure of the relationship with the victim. Can you give me any information that might help narrow the window of whenever the murder took place?" Katarina knew that Mickie had a heart of gold, that she was probably finding some way to blame herself for the murder even though this was most likely harsh circumstances. The others were of course also shocked by the news.
Mickie wiped her eyes, doing her best to compose herself. She did her best to recall what happened hours prior. "I hadn't met her before today, we hadn't been backstage hardly five minutes whenever she had exclaimed my name, recognizing me. She introduced herself as Toni Storm and that she was a huge fan of mine. She said that she was working the day of my performance and too nervous to talk to me back then. Toni had.. asked for a selfie which I was happy to do. After the picture, she joked about how her friends were going to be so jealous about the picture. She gave a big smile and said if we needed anything to not hesitate to ask her. That's the first and last time I saw Toni.." The interaction lasted a couple minutes but no one could imagine how the blonde would be remembered now by the others.
"Thank you, love. And please, don't blame yourself, you certainly couldn't predict such a tragedy would take place." The taller police officer spoke reassuringly, noticing the tears attempting to form in Mickie's eyes. 'That could explain other statements about the victim being happier than usual. Meeting someone you idolize would do that to you. Could that mean that the motive could be jealousy, envy perhaps? This could simply be a coincidence and a giant waste of time.'
"Would you mind giving individual alibis about what each of you did after your encounter with Miss Storm? I know it's a lot to ask but maybe something else happened that could be a link we need." Daffney added in, they already had the information provided by their lead but they needed to be thorough. One extra connection could be what was needed to capture the Devil's Advocate once and for all.
"I'd be happy to provide any information that might be helpful to you guys. I know the others would comply as well. Although it might not be linked to the murder, Trish decided to start her shit again." It was Daisy that decided to respond to the shorter police officer. Spruill cocked her head at the mention of the brunette woman, not familiar with the name which meant that Katarina knew this woman.
'It's been about six months since the last incident with Trish. And today of all days, she decides to reveal herself. Could it be connected? I'll have to bring her in regardless, due to her violating the restraining order.' The German woman thought to herself, remembering the last time that she was called in relation to that deranged woman. "Patricia Stratus attended the festival despite you having a restraining order, that's troublesome indeed."
"I have the suspicion that she was following Blaire and I for a while, although I have no concrete evidence to say it's a fact. Just a hunch. Trish sexually harassed me, even putting her hands on me. Blaire was able to get me away as Trish immediately wanted to fight Blaire but Sugar Plum was doing her job and looking out for my safety. I was so scared that I couldn't call out for Daisy. Thankfully Daisy came to the rescue and scared her away." The singer recalled that dangerous encounter to the best of her abilities. Thinking about her obsessive ex girlfriend made her body tremble slightly. Mickie's thoughts ran rampant on what could have happened if Trish hurt Blaire and Daisy wasn't able to intervene in time.
"I know some of the history of Trish's behavior since I was acquainted with her for a time but describe some more for me. More specifically her jealousy issues."
'The best course of action to take right now is to pull them one by one to the side and get their story about what happened after meeting the victim.' "While Katarina is talking to Miss James about our potential suspect, I will pull three of you ladies to the side one by one to get your alibis. The others will go and talk to Katarina whenever she is ready." Daffney was quick to deduce who the potential ones that were paired off together were. It would be in the best interest of their investigation that they each take one from the respective groups. That way they get stories that aren't tainted with the others' words.
"Are you saying that you really suspect us?" Sarita spoke for the first time since the police officers had arrived in a defensive tone. She was very offended at how the officers were constantly questioning her friends. One of the officers was Katarina, someone that she considered a dear friend..
Katarina strongly disliked that she had to interrogate her friends, she hated that she had to observe them like potential suspects. The chances were almost nonexistent but it wasn't zero. She didn't want to have to look at them in such a negative light but her occupation calls for it. "No, this is simply to help gather intel with the only lead that we have at this time." The woman from Germany said, trying to reassure them. The taller police officer focused her attention back to the country singer. "Mickie, love, can we discuss this somewhere more private? I am grateful for any extra information that could be given." The brunette nodded her head as the pair decided to walk toward the master bedroom. Daffney pointed toward the patio door and Victoria volunteered to go first and tell her story. She just wanted to help the officers in any way. All of them felt the same way, and just one small clue could lead to finding the asshole who cut a young woman's life tragically short.
Blaire's POV
A Couple Days Later..
"Yeehaw!" I shouted as Buttercup and I galloped across the field. "Come on slowpoke! Catch up if you can!" I yelled over to Gabi, who was riding her horse, Nyx, far behind.
"Come on Blaire, we don't have time to run around anymore. You know we have to get back to the stables and feed the animals their lunch. We already let them wait an hour longer than we should have. If we don't get back now, we'll have a mutiny on our hands!" Gabi exclaimed, trying to convince me to turn around. At her reasoning, I sighed, agreeing with her. Why does she always have to be right about things?
"Aww, I wanted to ride around a little more. Buttercup is having so much fun! Aren't you, you pretty girl." I said, cooing to my beautiful palomino, patting her mane with affection.
"I get it. It was fun to ride around a bit, especially with everything that has happened the past week. Riding always clears my head of everything. Maybe we can take another lap later if we have time? Don't forget we also have to wash and brush the horses today too." Gabi spoke, giving her horse some pats of her own as I thought about her words. The past few days still seem like such a fever dream to me. I got to see Mickie James perform live in person, that alone would have made it a perfect trip. But no, it got a zillion times better after hitting the bar. Meeting her.. Kissing her.. Holy shit, I even have a date lined up with my Goddess at some point. I haven't seen her for a few days and the last day I saw her was the chaos at the festival. It was pretty scary, I don't want to think about that.
"Fiiiine. Let's head back. Do you think we could take a mini break first though? I wanna grab something quick to eat too before we start." I said giving in. My stomach growled at the thought of food. The taller blonde rolled her eyes, knowing that I was just trying to make excuses to procrastinate feeding the animals. I know, it's important work. While I do love feeding the animals, I do have this ongoing beef with a particular rooster that keeps trying to attack me every time I try to enter the chicken coop. I shuddered at our last confrontation where he started chasing me and pecking at my legs. Animals usually love me but that particular rooster despises me with every fiber of his being.
"Alright, don't take too long though. I'll take the chicken coop today, since I know you struggle with Alfonso." Gabi chuckled, knowing exactly what I was thinking. At the sound of the rooster's name, I pouted.
"I'll beat him one of these days!" I say, angrily shaking my fist in the air.
"Ah yes, you're going to beat a cock. How very Blaire of you." Gabi teased, amused by my anger. Frankly that surprised me a little bit, not the sweet innocent one making a dirty joke like that.
"You know, you could get some action if you wanted too. You definitely have some options." I said in a sing-song voice, wiggling my eyebrows. Sarita definitely wants to smash, she has been flirting with her for the past couple days. She wasn't being subtle about it in the slightest. Then there's Katarina, who I don't really know but looks to have some kind of interest in my bestie.
"No thank you, I am fine as I am." My best friend responded, her cheeks a hint of red from blushing. I giggled at her response. I love my best friend but I do love teasing her too. I wonder why she never seemed to really show interest in anyone. I love flirting and getting with other people, it seems like she doesn't like to do the same. I shook my head, shaking away the thoughts.
"Anyways, let's head back to the stables. I'll race you there!" I shouted before galloping back to the stables, not waiting for Gabi, hoping I'll beat her there.
I heard a distant shout which I wasn't worried about as I raced the horse back to the farm. The trees blurred by and the wind blew against my hair. I let out an exhilarated scream as Buttercup galloped away. Seeing the stables come into view, I pulled my reins in, slowing her down into the gates. Within a minute, my blonde best friend galloped into the stables behind with her horse. Hoping off my horse, I gave Buttercup a pat on her neck.
"Aren't you such a pretty girl, huh Buttercup?" I said, patting her more. Grabbing a brush I began to brush her mane. Buttercup is a beautiful blonde palomino horse. She has long blonde hair on the top, and her tail, I keep braided so that way we always match. Buttercup neighed, as I brushed her, pushing her nose into me for more head pats. In the corner of my eyes, I saw Gabi was also brushing and feeding Nyx. Nyx, on the other hand, is a black and white paint horse with more of a tobiano spot design. My stomach growled as I saw Gabi reach for an apple to give to Nyx. Rubbing my belly I let out a little groan. After riding for so long I am staaarving. I should run away now and get some food before Gabi insists on feeding the animals.
"Alright, well I'm going to head back to the house and grab something to eat. I'll see you in a bit?" I say as I make my way to the backdoor of our small, two bedroom, ranch house.
"Okay! I'll get started with the chickens then. Don't take too long!" My best friend called from behind. Skipping the rest of the way to the back of the house, I yanked open a dark brown door and walked into the side of our kitchen. The kitchen was a medium sized kitchen, which was just enough space for the two of us. Gabi and I took turns cooking and cleaning, but Gabi always made the best food. Especially when she added a bit of her magic touch to it. Walking over to the fridge, I yanked the white door open to check for any leftovers. There wasn't anything left, considering I snacked on most of it last night when I got the midnight munchies. Aww, I hope I didn't eat everything. I really don't want to cook anything right now. Just as I was about to close the fridge door, I spotted something behind the fresh vegetable we just gathered. It was one of Gabi's sandwiches!
"Mmmm, I love Gabi's sandwiches! I don't know what magic she uses, but she makes the best ones!" Taking a bite of the leftover sandwich I let out a moan of delight. It tasted so good! My stomach let out another growl before I could take another bite. Starving, I devoured the rest of it in a few bites. Finally feeling satisfied now that I have food in my stomach, I felt suddenly tired. Looking over at the time, only a few minutes had passed since I had gone inside.
"It doesn't hurt to lay down for a bit right?" I say to myself. Making my way up the stairs to my bedroom, I unhooked my bra from behind, before taking it off from under my shirt. As I entered the room, I flung it off to the side before jumping into bed, facing down.
"I know you want to go to the rodeo, but at least take me to dinner first." A familiar voice said from inside my room, making me scream, jumping up from the bed.
Author's Note: Tori here! So we finally found out who the victim is, poor Toni. And Kat as a cop is pretty hot. She could totally put me in handcuffs! (Daisy here: Me too Tori, me too. Also that nightstick could have some extra use.. K. I am leaving.) Anywho, I'll let you guys be as I go simp for Katarina in the corner over here. (I am coming too.) K Byeeee!
