The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
Friday
"Don't look now" Quinn hissed, her eyes full of excitement, making everyone look anyway "I said don't look"
"Fit as heaven" Brittany smiled looking at the four men that had just entered the café
"We're on holiday, we're supposed to be looking" Rachel piped up, her eyes fixed on one of the mysterious men
"They are kind of cute" Mercedes smiled at her friends
"I can't tell you what I'm thinking I want to do with that dark haired one with the deep blue eyes" Quinn giggled
"Details" Brittany giggled
"Girl" Mercedes laughed shaking her head
"When guys like those walk in the door; you're going to notice" Rachel laughed
"They know it too" Mercedes pushed her nose up at them "Change the damn subject" she picked her coffee up and sipped it
"I thought this was supposed to be a happy vacation?" Brittany sulked
"It is" Mercedes frowned "Sorry, I'm being insensitive"
"We all guilty of that sometimes" Quinn looked at Rachel
"Okay" Rachel held her hand up "Subject change, how about we set up a visit to Blue Mountain?"
"It's nearly one" Brittany gasped
"The darker the scarier" Rachel laughed
"A weekend of fun, that's what you signed us up for" Quinn looked at Mercedes
"It is" Mercedes nodded her head smiling, waiting for Brittany's decision
"Okay" Brittany rolled her eyes "But can I at least have a strong drink, and maybe a fantasy about one of those cuties, before we embark on this death trip"
"That word" Rachel snapped
"What death?" Brittany asked "Girl it comes to us all"
"Finn left us ten years ago, I know, but it's still raw" Rachel snapped
"For everyone I'm sure" Mercedes butted in "Finn, Puck, Santana, even thinking about them is hard" she looked up to the heavens "But guys, we're not the enemy here" she huffed "And we're not here to argue, we're here to support each other in getting through this difficult time, remember?"
"Sorry, and thanks for making this happen" Rachel grabbed Mercedes' hand
"I promised I'd be here for you all" Mercedes smiled
"Okay" Brittany raised her arms in the air "I've ogled, now let's go find something strong to drink" she got up, encouraging everyone to follow
"Excuse me" a voice called after them before they got to the door, they all turned "Your purse" the guy pointed at the table
"Oh" Rachel smiled at the dark-haired guy before grabbing her purse "Thank you" she turned quickly to rejoin her friends "Did you see him?" she squeaked "Too cute"
Brittany was right it was too late for the excursion, with no one willing to take them up the mountain they decided to hit it on the head and wait for the evening entertainment at the hotel instead.
They were sat eating their dinner when the rowdy group caught their attention "It's those guys again" Rachel smiled, she'd talked about the purse guy earlier that afternoon, so they weren't surprised she was excited to see him again.
"Are you sure you're ready to jump in again?" Brittany asked, remembering the last time Rachel tried to have a relationship with someone, it was destined to fail, she set her bar too high, but they couldn't deny Finn was a hard act to follow.
"I won't know if I don't try" Rachel replied
"She's right" Quinn smiled looking over at the guys "None of us will, let's promise to at least try"
"Deal" Rachel and Brittany agreed
"Count me out" Mercedes laughed
"I thought we were here to enjoy ourselves?" Rachel asked her
"A few more of these and I'll get the memo" Mercedes held her drink up "And for me that doesn't include guys"
"Never say never" Brittany warned her
"Excuse me ladies, we wondered if you'd allow us to buy you a drink?" a second dark-haired guy stood at their table asking
"Who's we?" Quinn asked, raising her eyebrows at the guy stood in front of them
"Sam, Brody, Ryder and Biff, that's me" smiled
"Yes" Brittany replied quickly "We'd love that"
"We would?" Mercedes looked at her shocked
"We'll send them over momentarily" the guy told them walking away as he nodded to the waiter
"Hands off everyone, he's mine" Quinn warned
"You haven't even spoken to him yet" Brittany laughed
"Not those guys" she huffed "The hottie that just came over, Biff"
"God, you made your mind up quick" Mercedes laughed
"When you finally find Mr does it for me, it will for you too, trust me" she laughed "I think I just had an orgasm" she laughed, then thirstily took a sip of her wine
"Ladies" the waiter put the bucket in the middle of their table, before placing the flutes, they watched as he expertly opened the bottle then poured it, leaving a card on the table
"What does it say?" Brittany asked Mercedes watching her pick it up
"Love your smile" she looked at the guys "He's not talking to me; I wasn't smiling with those ass holes"
"That blond one looks like the leader too, which means he's all bad" Rachel told them
"I suppose we'd better say thank you" Quinn held her glass up at them the others followed suit, before they set about finishing the bottle
"Is it just me or is this getting creepy?" Mercedes asked having felt eyes on them the whole evening
"We're something to look at" Brittany reminded her as the disco music pumped out
"Fuck it, you only live once" Quinn finally stood up "I'm going to ask him to dance" she stepped off before anyone could stop her, they watched her talking for a while before the guy she had her eye on followed her to the dancefloor
"Girls got game" Brittany shook her head and smiled "And why the hell not, they're gone, they wouldn't want us to live our lives alone, go you" she looked at Quinn waving her hand in the air
"Come on" Quinn called them to join her
"I'm good" Mercedes smiled
"I'm going" Rachel jumped up
"And if you're not going you can watch the purses, yeah?" Brittany asked pushing hers across the table before getting up to join the others
"I guess" Mercedes looked across the dancefloor, rethinking her choice
They'd been on the dancefloor for a while, Mercedes sat smiling at them, they'd had a rough time of things over the past ten years they all had, but these three particularly, losing their partners the way they did, all of them so unexpected. If she had to guess who took it the best, she'd have to say Quinn, not that she wasn't broken for nearly two years, but she'd grabbed life by the horn quicker than the others. She smiled at them at least today it didn't seem like they were letting grief consume them, she'd dragged them back from some dark places in the past.
"Do you?" a voice pulled her out of her thoughts, she looked up to see the mousy blond guy standing over her
"Sorry, do I what?"
"Want to dance" he smiled holding his hand out for her to grab
"I'm watching the purses" she looked at them laying there
"I can get someone to do that, if you really want to dance"
"I..."
"Please" he pushed his bottom lip out and drooped his eyes begging
"One dance" she laughed watching him call someone over to stand at their table "I'm sure he's supposed to be working" she looked at the guy as she walked past him
"He is" he grabbed her hand, she didn't know what to think about his sudden familiarity, but she wasn't repulsed by it. They got to the dancefloor and stood looking around trying to work out what the song was turning into "Sorry" he frowned when it turned into a slow one
"Did you do this on purpose?" she looked into his smiling eyes asking
"I control a lot of things, but the music isn't one of them" he laughed "You did say yes to this dance" he reminded her grabbing her around the waist, even more familiar, but still, she didn't feel repulsed
"You're right about that" she finally smiled grabbing hold of his shoulder as 'She Don't Let Nobody' by Chaka Demus & Pliers played
"So" he broke the silence "They call me Sam"
"Mercedes" she looked up at him for a second
"Are you here for long?"
"Are you?" she quickly looked up at him again
"The weekend, needed to clear my head, make some decisions"
"Same" she smiled "About the weekend thing I mean, not everything else" her eyes held his "So, what is it you're clearing your head about?"
"Business stuff" his face told her she didn't want to know anything else, but she'd found herself in her curious mood, and what the hell, she wasn't going to see him again after the weekend anyway, she felt like messing with his head a bit, so she decided she was going there
"So, you think I can't understand business stuff?"
"No" he pulled back "Sorry I didn't mean to offend you"
"You do that a lot then, offend people?"
"No, I mean I try not to" he rolled his eyes making her smile "What do you do for a living?" he asked deciding not to dig himself in any deeper
She thought about not answering him for a second, but he looked so cute just then, she thought she'd give him a free one "I'm a lawyer, freelance" she looked around the bar "And you, what do you do for a living Sam?"
"Today I'm in the family business" he told her
"Which is?" she looked up at him intrigued
"It's steeped in tradition, secrecy, maybe even a bit of... sorry you're a lawyer, and I wouldn't want to implicate my family" he laughed
"Funny" she laughed, unable to judge whether he was joking or not, they stood rocking to the music, taking in the words
"We need to go" Rachel suddenly grabbed hold of Mercedes' arm yanking her away from Sam
"Sorry" Mercedes let go of Sam and followed Rachel and the others out of the club
"What happened?" Brittany asked as they rushed through the corridors
"Rachel?" Quinn stopped "What happened?"
"I don't know what I've done, or why I've done it" she burst out crying
"Okay, come on" Mercedes grabbed Rachel's arm "Let's get back to the suite" they walked in silence to their suite
"What the hell happened?" Quinn asked when they got inside "We were having such a good time"
"He asked me out" Rachel gasped
"And?" Mercedes looked at her blankly
"You have got to be shitting me" Brittany sat on the couch pissed off "I say this with love" she looked at Rachel "I fucking understand why Tana wanted to slap the crap out of you every time she looked at you"
"Britt" Quinn snapped
"What?" Brittany tone surprised she was being questioned
"It wasn't just Santana" Quinn rolled her eyes smiling
"No, it wasn't" Mercedes sat next to Brittany to listen to Rachel's story "So, he asked you out and you said?"
"Yes, I said yes, and I don't know why"
"Maybe because you wanted to?" Quinn looked at her puzzled
"Maybe because you wanted to do this again, I mean we all know how you love centre stage" Brittany snapped
"Is Santana in here somewhere?" Rachel asked looking around the room
"Okay" Mercedes pulled it back "It's been a long day, what with travel, heavy food, dancing, let's do our thing and call it a night"
"I'm up for that, I'll get the munchies" Brittany smiled, they all looked up at the door knocking
"Did anyone order anything?" Quinn asked
"No" they replied watching as Brittany got up to answer the door
"Oh" she smiled "Someone's reading our minds" she opened the door to the trolley full of goodies "Did you do this?" she asked Mercedes, pulling the trolley in
"Honestly I didn't"
"There's a card" Brittany grabbed it and opened it "After all that dancing, all I want to do is eat, I thought we might do that together" she raised her eyebrows "No name" she turned the card for everyone to see "It's got to be from Ryder" she giggled "Not just a cute face"
"Brody and I had a conversation about sweet things, before I freaked out" Rachel told them "Maybe it's from him"
"Or maybe it's complimentary" Mercedes added "Come on ladies, get over yourselves"
"So" Quinn looked at her with squinted eyes "What was that with Sam?" she grinned "I thought you didn't want to dance?"
"I didn't, but he asked politely and well, there's something about him, I couldn't say no"
"You like him" Brittany smiled
"This weekend isn't about me" her eyes lit up "Gummy bears" she grabbed a few "Rachel, it's your turn to choose the movie" they all grabbed their snacks before settling in front of the large screen TV watching Rachel flick through the channels
"More snacks" Quinn got up to answer the knock this time "Hi" the male voice rang through the room "Could I speak to Mercedes please?"
"Sure" Quinn backed into the room "Mercedes, Sam's at the door for you"
"What the..." Mercedes looked at him, before getting up to see what he wanted "How did you know what room we were in?"
"Confession" he smiled "We own the hotel" he frowned "I get to know these things"
"Did you send the snacks?"
"Yes, we did"
"Thank you" she smiled, trying to calm her fluttering stomach "What can I do for you?"
"I was wondering; well actually my friends and I were wondering, if you ladies would like to join us for breakfast in the morning?"
"Downstairs?"
"No" he laughed "Somewhere I don't own"
"Sure" she smiled "About eight?"
"Could we make it seven it's a way out, be prepared to travel?"
"Sure"
"Great, so we'll see you at seven?"
"It's a... whatever that is" she laughed awkwardly "Goodnight"
"Don't let the bugs bite"
"There are bugs?" she looked around the room
"No" he laughed
"I'm joking" she grinned
"Goodnight" he laughed shaking his head as he walked away
"What did he want?" Quinn asked as the door closed
"They want to take us to breakfast" she laughed "I said yes"
"Yes" Quinn and Brittany punched the air with excitement
"See" Rachel sat up "Don't you think this is too coincidental?"
"What that I booked a random flight to Jamaica, booked a random hotel and then we meet some random guys?" Mercedes asked
"Someone's had a change of heart" Brittany smiled at Mercedes
"Yes" Rachel replied "It's too much too fast"
"Girl it's been years, and I for one have cobwebs where life should be" Quinn told her
"It's breakfast, nobody said yes to marriage" Mercedes reminded them "Movie" she told Rachel, as Quinn opened the champagne
They sat watching the usual chick flick until the drink took effect, eventually settling into sleep
Saturday
"Mercedes" Quinn shouted through her bedroom door "You're making us late"
"A girl has to look her best first thing" she walked out with her colourful lace trouser suite on and string boob top
"Fierce" Quinn commented, she was stood in a lime green bikini with matching sarong across her hips
"They won't know what hit them" Brittany smiled posing in her all-in-one skin fitted white lace trouser suit, Rachel stood next to her with her calf length blue lace beech dress with floppy hat to match
"I believe breakfast is served" Rachel laughed "Let's do this" she led the march toward the door
"I'm starving" Mercedes closed the door behind them
They got downstairs to find the waiting car "Morning Ladies" their driver smiled
They got in the car and settled in to drink the beverages provided, gasping at the beautiful coastline as they made their way through St James, right along the beach front all the way through Hanover and into Westmoreland.
"This better be good after that build up" Mercedes warned as the car slowed near the harbour
"Sailing?" Quinn asked excitedly
"They own a yacht?" Brittany jumped out the car, the others followed walking fast towards the yacht
"No shirt, isn't he fit?" Quinn ginned as Biff came into view, they were full on kissing before a word was said
"Hi" Brittany smiled grabbing Ryder's hand to board
"Morning" he smiled kissing her hand before helping Rachel and Mercedes onboard too "This way" he guided them, leaving Quinn and Biff to themselves "We'll need a minute or two, you'll find everything you need here, we'll be with you as quick as we can" he showed them to the seating area "Will" he called him over before he left the ladies to themselves.
The yacht was like a mini ship it had five floors to it, a gym, large dining room, around ten cabins across two floors, hot tub and a small bar room. Once they'd explored the yacht, they were taken back to the dining room where there was breakfast laid out, fit for a king. They enjoyed food, music, and conversation, they were genuinely shocked when they finally got back on deck to see they were surrounded by water.
"We're due back for lunch" Sam told them "Come with me" he pulled Mercedes to go with him "I want to show you the family space"
"Do you think you should?" she giggled
"I don't know what it is about you, but my heart tells me I should" he grabbed her hand again and walked back into the dining room and through to another part of the yacht "The lounge" he smiled at her face lighting up at the sight of the plush white and gold room
"This is amazing" she spun around to take it all in
"This is the business room" he laughed pulling her through the room "Games room" he opened another door and went in "You up for it?" he asked picking up a snooker cue
"Never played"
"I'll teach you" he picked another cue up and gave it to her "You use that to hit the balls" he smiled
"I know that much" she laughed
"You can break" he nodded at the table, watching her walk around it to try to find something to hit "Here" he stood behind her "Let me show you how" she trembled at his hands moving against hers, it was like nothing she'd ever experienced before, her stomach was playing havoc. She found herself learning less just for the repeated pleasure of having him close, his hot breath making her eyes close as it hit her neck. The pressure of his body against hers as he leaned in to point her in the right direction, everything heightened her senses. She lost control when his hand reached for her thigh and he gently pushed her to lean across the table to get to the balls, by the time he helped her back down she was done.
She won, and she knew he'd let her, then, as the prize he allowed her to request anything she wanted "This isn't me" she turned to look at him "But I'm on holiday, flattered, and you are hell of a cute" she giggled "Can I?"
"Anything you want" his voice begging her to ask
"Can I get a kiss?" she looked into his eyes and smiled at him moving towards her, the next thing she knew they were moving, there was a bed, then they were naked, breathless, satisfied, and she was smiling "Sorry I sort of made you do that, I didn't expect this" she looked at him
"No need for sorry, I wanted to do this, but I didn't expect it either" he lay on his back and breathed out heavy "Have you googled me?"
"No" she looked at him puzzled "Should I?"
"Maybe you should before this goes any further"
"Why are you telling me this now?"
"Because I need you to know what you're getting yourself into"
"We slept together, no, we had sex, what do you think we're getting into"
"Do you think I wouldn't know you were a virgin as soon as I went there?" he sat up to look at her "You choosing to give that to me, means you felt something, I need you to have your eyes open before you fall in love"
"Don't presume you know anything about my heart" she sat up telling him
"I'm not" he bit his bottom lip frustrated "I need you to know everything about my life before I give mine" he got off the bed "Mercedes, I don't sleep around, I've never brought anyone here before, but the first time I saw you I thought maybe" he picked his phone up and handed it to her "Google me, Sam Evans"
Reluctantly she sat on the bed doing as he'd asked, words leapt out at her sounding alarms; firearms, drugs, violent criminal, ordering deaths "Is this you?" she looked up at him asking
"It's my family"
"But do you do this too?"
"I've made deals before" he looked at her "And already I've told you more than you should know"
"I can't be around this; I can't be around you" she told him getting up "You need to take me back to the hotel" she started picking up her clothes
"Mercedes" he got up to stop her "Please, let me explain"
"You should have told me before we had sex"
"If I'd thought a kiss was going to take us here, I would have"
"Take me back" she ordered, putting her clothes on, he didn't say anything, he got dressed and went to give the order to return, the air full of ice for the journey back
"What happened?" Brittany asked as they sat in the car, having cut their day out abruptly
"Did he try to force himself on you?" Rachel asked
"No" Mercedes smiled "I forced myself on him"
"He rejected you?" Quinn snapped angrily
"No" she looked at them "We had sex"
"So, what happened?" Brittany asked confused "You didn't like it?"
"Sam Evans, google him" she told them watching Rachel take her phone out "I found Mr does it for me, and he's a..." she watched as Rachel's eyes widened at her findings
"Gangsters?" Rachel looked up at Mercedes "We had breakfast with gangsters?"
"I had sex with a damn gangster" she huffed "Me, the lawyer"
"It wasn't all bad, was it?" Quinn smiled
"Did you not hear me say I jumped him" Mercedes smiled "Why did he have to be a freaking gangster"
"Do you have to be a lawyer" Brittany asked
"Yes"
"I'm just saying, if he's that good, sacrifice happens a lot in relationships" she frowned
"I'm not in love with him"
"Yet" Rachel added "I can tell you will be"
"And soon" Quinn told her, they sat reflecting on the day and their lives, the reason they'd taken the trip was to try to provoke change, each of them had, but in doing that there was a sadness about losing memories they'd already created with someone else.
"I think I'm ready for this relationship" Rachel announced as the car pulled up outside the hotel
"Biff makes me laugh, I want to see where it goes, but no promises" Quinn told them
"I don't see a future for Ryder and I, but there is fun to be had" Brittany added
"I'm still at the starting block, only without my virginity" Mercedes sulked
The day went as they'd originally expected it to with a full pampering session, cocktails, laughter, and sun, they went to bed early ready for the early flight the next day
Sunday
"Are we ready?" Rachel stood in the doorway asking
"Yes" Mercedes smiled "I've checked everywhere" she fanned them out
"Thanks for the weekend, Mercedes, we needed it" they all hugged
"Come on" Mercedes pulled away from them "I have a client at six"
They grabbed their bags, caught a cab and headed to the airport, they were exhausted from lack of sleep and too many cocktails the night before they slept most of the journey home. They got back home and went their separate ways, most were back to work on Monday, Mercedes was working later that evening. She just about got home, dropped her bags, had something to eat, grabbed a shower and got dressed ready for work. She jumped in her car to make the ten-minute journey across town to her place of work
"What are you doing here?" she looked around the car lot before looking back at Sam "How did you... you own this building too" she nodded
"No" he smiled "I needed you to hear me out"
"I have a meeting to get to" she made to step off
"Just five minutes, just let me say what I came to say, please" he gave her those eyes again
"Four"
"So, I told you I was taking the weekend to make a decision" he started
"And?"
"You helped me make it, I'm out"
"Of?"
"You're not about to make this easy, are you?" he laughed "My father asked me to make a decision about where my life was going, I didn't want into the business, but I didn't know what I wanted to do, you helped me work that out"
"How?"
"I couldn't see anything outside of the business and then I met you, the possibility of a life with you is enough to pull me away from it, I want a normal life, with a normal person, a family, house, pets, all of it"
"And who told you I was ready for all that?" she laughed
"You did" he walked towards her "When you made me the one"
She wanted to push him away, tell him to leave her alone, but her body betrayed her, she grabbed his neck and pulled him in kissing him enough to let him know what she wanted "I wished I could hate you" she whispered as she let him kiss her neck
"Impossible" his breath hit her skin, and made her insides jump, she knew what she wanted, right there, right now, and she took it
"Sorry, I..." she pulled her skirt down and picked up her panties
"Don't" his fingers stopped her lips "I wanted this, then, now, and every time after this" he smiled "You make my heart jump"
"Don't ever make me regret this"
