"Hey, Harris." Percy West, Captain of the basketball team called out. "Coach Morris wants to see you after classes let out for the day, don't be late, he's a stickler."
"Uh, yeah sure." Xander said, wondering why the Track and Field Coach wanted to see him. "I'll head over to his office after my last class lets out."
"Hey, Xand, love the new look." Larry, long time bully of one Xander Harris called out as Xander walked down the corridor.
"Uh, thanks, man." Xander wondered if Larry was just trying to get him to lower his guard before trying to hassle him again.
"Harris, party at my place this weekend." A jock who's name Xander couldn't remember called out. "Bring Cordelia and your hot rod, give you a chance to show it off."
"My hot rod?" Xander asked, confused.
"The one you got from your uncle."
"My uncle's got a lot of cars." Xander answered, thinking the jock meant his Uncle Rory who restored cars as a hobby.
"Awesome, can't wait to see one of them. Cordelia knows my address, see you Saturday evening."
"Uh, yeah. Saturday." A very confused Xander headed for the library and sanctuary from the barrage of strange comments coming his way. What was going on?
"Giles, has someone been playing with Magic?" Xander asked as he came into the library.
"Why? Has something happened?"
"People are being nice to me and inviting me to parties. That's never happened to me, Giles."
"It seems Cordelia may have been correct in her assertion that a change in your wardrobe would facilitate a change in your classmates attitudes towards you."
"All that because I got new clothes?"
"There is truth to the expression, 'clothes make the man,' Xander." Giles told him. "Perhaps you are seeing that idiom being played out in real life."
"Xander." Buffy and Willow pushed into the library. "What have you been telling people?"
"I haven't been telling anyone anything, why?"
"Because apparently you've inherited millions of dollars from your uncle and a fast car and now the whole school thinks you're cool." Willow told him.
"All that because of a change in clothes?" Xander repeated, astonished. "Wow, Cordelia really was right. She'll never let it go now, oh gods, she's going to make me go shopping again." Xander plopped into a chair as he contemplated the horror of another shopping expedition, Cordelia or no Cordelia, men were not meant to shop!
"I overheard the Cordettes talking." Buffy said. "They're going to help Cordelia mould you into an acceptable boyfriend. Harmony called you a hottie."
"Ew, did you have to tell me that? It's Harmony!" Xander wanted to disappear. Harmony was a viciously mean bitch at the best of times. "Some people are only attractive if they never open their months." He said, glancing at the girls, who were staring at him. "What? Is what I said offensive or something?"
"In general, it kinda is. But that's not the problem." Buffy answered.
"Xander, have you been feeling neglected by us?" Willow asked anxiously.
"No, I'm the one who told you to back off and get a new attitude, Willow, remember?"
"Yeah, I remember." Willow said, feeling miserable that her crush still seemed mad at her. "Xander, I don't know how else to say this - ."
"You've gone invisible, Xander." Buffy said bluntly. "We have to figure out how this happened and fix it. If you're not feeling neglected or ignored like Marcie was, then maybe it's a spell. Maybe someone is jealous of your new found popularity."
"Seriously? I've been popular less then three hours apparently and I didn't even know it. You're sure I'm invisible? Because I don't feel like I am."
Both girls looked surprised and then Buffy tentatively said. "You're not invisible anymore, Xander. Why aren't you invisible anymore?"
"Well, let me think about this for a minute. You mentioned that Harmony thought I was hot and I was thinking I want to disappear so she doesn't see me. Trust me, it's not flattering to have Harmony express interest in me. And then I said I don't feel like I'm invisible and you said I'm not invisible anymore."
"Xander." Giles suggested. "Think about being invisible."
"Uh, okay." 'Invisible.' Xander thought. 'How do I think about being invisible? Do I imagine myself being invisible?'
"Xander, you're invisible again." Buffy said.
"And now you're not." Willow told him.
"Apparently you do have a type of camouflage ability, Xander." Giles stated. "The ability to go invisible at will. An astonishing ability indeed."
"Really?" Xander said. "It's a good thing I'm not twelve anymore."
"Why?"
"Because almost every twelve to thirteen year old boy in the beginnings of puberty thinks it would be cool to be invisible and sneak into the girls locker room." He answered. "Don't worry, I'm well past that stage."
"The stage of being a pervert?" Buffy asked.
"The stage of being a teenage male with more hormones then blood in their brains." Giles answered. "Xander, I trust you to use this ability responsibly."
"Thanks. I promise to try not to let you down. So what do I do about this apparent new found popularity of mine?"
"You borrow a car from your Uncle Rory." Cordelia said, coming into the library. "And take me to the party on Saturday."
Buffy and Willow turned to look at her.
"What? Cat ears, remember? I could hear you talking down the hall. Xander can go invisible at will and he has no plans to invade the girls locker room. So party, Doofus?"
"Is it worth it? Will it actually be fun?"
"Yeah, he throws good parties. Nothing like the demon worshiping frat boys."
"Then I guess so. I'll talk to Uncle Rory about borrowing one of his cars."
"Xander." Willow said. "What about the fact that everyone thinks you're a millionaire now?"
"Hopefully they'll forget about it when the next rumors to hit the mill come out. Anyway, I've got some assignments to work on."
"Me too." Cordelia said, taking a seat next to him. "Tomorrow we're doing those career assessment tests. Any idea what you'd like to be when you grow up, Xander?" She grinned at him.
"Anything but a prison guard." He joked back.
