Day 110, 7:00 AM
UA Dorms
Waking up and having nothing to do, Kaminari sits on the couch with Kurorio and Mineta by his side. Taking careful sips of water they just finished boiling, Kaminari looks over to the shadow merger. "Something on your mind, Kuroiro?"
Kuroiro takes a sip of water. "Still a little sore from the last two days." He pulls up his shirt and reveals his bandages. "Aside from that, I'm okay."
Kaminari turnst to Mineta. "And what about you, what's on your mind, man?"
Mineta pauses. "Boobs."
The electric boy and shadow merger nod. "Yeah," they whisper.
Kaminari leans forward. "So, since we got nothing to do all day... do you guys want to play some video games? You know, to get our minds off of things."
"Didn't Iida tell us not to use too much electricity?" Mineta reminds him.
"Hey, you let me worry about the electricity problem." He puts his bottle down before standing up. "Honestly, if we can't play video games, then I'm going to go out for a ride. I think I'll go on a supply run. Any special requests?"
Kuroiro holds his hand up. "Haven't you combed every store in the area already?"
Kaminari pauses. "Yeah, I did. But... who knows? Maybe I missed something and there's something I'll find."
"I would come with you but I don't want to risk reopening my wound."
"I understand. Mineta?"
"I'll go with you." I'll look like a true hero if I bring supplies back for everyone. Maybe this will get the girls' attention.
"Alright. We can go out this afternoon. We can tell the others we're going for a run and then -"
"Wait, Kaminari, I have to ask: do you have a plan? I get that you want to go out and get more supplies but going out and searching without a destination in mind sounds suicidal. And the town we went to last week might be crawling with zombies ever since that horde that ambushed us."
Kaminari grunts. "I guess you have a point. But... we're going to need supplies eventually."
"Take a moment to relax, man," Kuroiro urges. "We all made it back from the factory. Not unscathed but nobody died."
"That factory could've been full of supplies."
"We should've combed the factory for supplies then do our training. What good that training was when we couldn't put it to good use against zombies."
Kaminari sits down. "Hey, let's try and think of something else guys. I'll go on a supply run later but for now..." He grabs his water bottle. "We'll just... sit here... do nothing."
"Seems like that's all we can do," Mineta lisps, "sitting here doing nothing."
"I actually miss going to school," Kuroiro admits. "I'd give anything to go to one of Present Mic's incomprehensible English classes."
"So what I. Especially Mr. Ectoplasma's math class... even though I didn't know how to..." his brain short-circuits on him, "... how to... carry... the... yay."
Kuroiro laughs. "Did you really short-circuit your brain just by trying to remember a math problem? Kaminari, you are a lightweight, man."
Kaminari shakes his head. "my bad."
Mineta laughs. "Never stop short-circuiting your brain, Kaminari, the girls love it when you short-circuit your brain."
7:15
Bedrooms
Sitting up in his room with a cast around his leg, Monoma is given a bowl of soup that the rest of 1B cooked up for him. Kendo hands him a spoon and watches him take careful spoonfuls of the soup.
"Thank you," the boy with the broken leg smiles. "Don't you want to save this food?"
Kendo scoffs. "You got a broken leg so I think you deserve more."
"Okay, if you say so."
Kendo steps out of Monoma's bedroom and turns to see Kirishima and Tetsutetsu heading into Sato and Yanagi's room respectively to give them soup to help them feel better. Even though Sato didn't suffer any broken limbs, he fell and landed hard on his back, resulting in him getting the wind knocked out of him. He described the pain as feeling like something burst inside of him and he wasn't walking properly. Maybe it was an internal injury but either way, he was to stay in bed until he was feeling better.
Kuroiro was the only one doing the best out of everyone there. And Kaibara. The drill boy had a few cuts and bruises but nothing too severe and he had Kodai to keep him company.
7:20
Kitchen
Deku holds his notebook out while checking the fridge and the cabinets. He takes inventory of how much food and supplies they have. After checking his notebooks, he closes the fridge, where Bakugou steps in his path.
"What are you doing you damn nerd?" He sees the notebook. "What, are you so bored that you're using your hero notebook to take inventory?'
Deku looks at him. "How dare you..." He holds up a plain white notebook. "This is a spare notebook I had with me, not one for taking notes on heroes." He slaps the notebook on the table. "Okay, since we served the injured some soup for the last two days, we've run slightly lower on food. If we keep this up, we should be out of food within a month."
"Then tell everyone to stop serving the injured soup. And why are they being served soup? You serve soup to someone sick, not someone with broken bones!"
Iida and Kendo come charging out, Iida chopping the air as he says, "We hear you, Bakugou, and we understand what you are saying." He turns to his co-leader. "Maybe we were hasty in giving more food than necessary to the injured."
"They're injured," Kendo argues, "they need their energy more than we do."
Bakugou grunts. "We need our energy too because the healthy ones are going to be the ones getting supplies. We need just as much rest and energy as they do."
"I get your point."
Iida looks at the notebook that Deku opens. "Huh, if we're going to survive for another few months, we're going to need to haul more food. A lot of food."
"Then let's take the school bus and go get food," Kendo suggests.
Bakugou scoffs. "You idiots, don't you know that we need to expand our search? We've been scouting the same area for about four months or so and we're getting low on food. If we want to get more food, we need to go further out. Maybe like 16 kilometers out or so."
"And by 'us' scouting, you mean 'me' scouting, right, Bakugou?" Kaminari's voice calls out in the background.
"Whatever, sparky." Bakugou turns back to the co-leaders. "Oh yeah, and another thing, if Sparky is the only one scouting, then it's going to take him forever to bring in a shitton of food. You want to hear my suggestion?"
"No," Kendo snarks. "But there's no TV anymore so we might as well listen to you."
"Cars. We need more cars. All we have going for us is Pikachu's bike and the school bus. One too small and one too big. What if there's an emergency and we don't have the bus here at the dorms? We need more cars; it'll allow us to carry more load and give us plenty of chances to escape."
Iida gulps. "You do have a point, Bakugou."
Deku looks at his notes. "You know, having a few cars around would be good for hauling in big supplies but... where are we supposed to find cars?"
Bakugou scoffs. "Uh, why don't we try a car dealership or something? Or maybe even a repair shop. Hell, if we go to the outside of the city, we'll find plenty of cars that have been left behind. Assuming the tires haven't been rotted off and they're not out of gas."
"Good idea, Kacchan; it's a brilliant idea."
"Don't praise my idea, nerd!"
Deku rubs his chin. "Where are we supposed to go? Where are we supposed to go in the city? The city will be filled with zombies and taking them all on isn't an option. The pros barely survived so we don't stand a chance. We can't just keep digging around; we need to think of a location that would have a lot of food. We need to find a place that has enough food to feed a small town. Kinda like Lunch Rush did when he fed a town that one time."
"I agree," Iida nods. "Man, I could go for some of Lunch Rush's gourmet cooking right about now."
Deku gasps. "Wait a second." He turns to the rest. "I think I have an idea. It's going to sound crazy but hear me out. What if... we did a supply run... on UA High?"
The room silences to the point where they can hear a teeny tiny needle for a haystack drop against the ground.
"UA High?" Iida looks down, contemplating. "I will admit.. it seemed like the most obvious choice but... that's the place where our friends and fellow classmates died. It's a graveyard and... I don't feel comfortable digging around a graveyard."
Kaminari, Mineta, and Kuroiro step forward, watching the exchange with solemn looks on their faces.
"Hey, Iida, if it makes you feel any better, I'm the one who is going to be digging around in a graveyard." Kaminari shivers so he puts on his hero jacket.
"And probably me," Mineta admits.
"Did the defense barrier do its job?" Kendo asks. "The defense barrier at the front? Did it do its job in keeping zombies out? The power around the city went out and the gate operated on power."
Kaminari smiles. "Well, if it's out of power, I can simply charge it up. And... if the barrier is done, we can walk in."
"It also means that zombies will be flooding the front gates," Kurorio points out.
"Will there be food in there?" Kendo asks.
"There would be," Mineta answers, "after all, UA is supposed to be a school where we train in disaster scenarios and since UA has had run-ins with villains in the past, it makes sense that they would have emergency food in case they need to evacuate people there."
"And what if there are people there?" Deku questions. "Should we bring them back here?"
Bakugou shakes his head. "If people are living at UA, then it means that they're fat on food, all the food is gone, almost gone, or something else. Either way, we're barely surviving ourselves. If we want to make it, we need to worry about ourselves first."
"I hate to say it but he might be right," Iida hesitates. "But if we're lucky, then maybe the people living at UA will let us live there with him."
"That's a big IF and what's the point of living if there's no defense barrier?"
Deku nods. "He's right; we need to consider if the barrier is up and who is keeping it up. If the power is down, then there will be zombies roaming the front of the campus. If the place is overrun with zombies, then it's a dead end. Unless we want to clear it but it's pretty close to the city where there are other hordes."
"Let's plan a supply run on UA later," Iida orders. He puts his hands on the table. "We should focus on getting more vehicles. As Bakugou has said, getting more vehicles will allow us to have more escape options. And in the event that the bus is too big to drive in or under somewhere, then a car will be what we need. We're going to need to location of all places that might have cars, gas, and food while we're at it."
Deku reaches into his survivor notebook and pulls out a folded-up map. There are several red circles dotted all over the map. "Now, we've mostly searched around this area the most. This area here is where we went to the factory to do training. Going back is risky, especially with all the zombies, so we should avoid this area, at least for a week or two."
"I'm sorry, I have to ask." Kaminari steps forward. "Are we taking the bus to get cars or am I riding out to get cars?"
"Kuroiro is wounded so bringing him along isn't an option," Bakugou scolds. "We'll take the bus because we're going to need as many people as possible to drive as many cars as possible."
"But how are we going to get all the cars in?"
"We got the bus in moron. If we can park the bus in through the front gate, we can drive a few cars or two through the gate. For right now, we should get at least three cars. Specifically, SUVs, something big to carry more than five people. None of those ugly-ass Altimas but SUVs. Vans and pickup trucks will do as well, anything with a lot of trunk space; we need enough vehicles to fit at least thirty-seven people in case the bus goes out."
"That sounds easy enough," Kaminari laughs. "You know, if we want-"
"We can have Kodai come with us," Kendo suggests. "Having Kodai to shrink the cars will prove to be useful. We can use her quirk to make room if we need to while at the same time, always have cars on hand."
Deku smiles. "Brilliant idea. This means we don't have to take the bus. We can have Kaminari ride out with Kodai and bring some cars back."
"If Kodai is coming, can I come along?" Mineta asks. "Please, you never know when they might need my balls."
Kaminari and Kurorio cringe. "Dude, change the wording, bro," they both say.
"Sorry," the small boy apologizes.
7:27
Upstairs, Mina's room
After removing her jacks from the ground, Jirou turns to the other girls in Mina's room as they stare at her with excitement.
"So, what's the haps, Jirou, anything juicy the boys are talking about downstairs?" Mina smiles and leans in.
"Uhh, nothing much." Jirou eyes the other girls in the room. Uraraka, Tsu, Pony, and Komori stare at Jirou. "Just, talking about doing another mission that might involve Kaminari and Kodai."
"Kodai?" Hagakure tilts her head.
Wait, Hagakure? When did she get in here? Jirou spots the floating gloves.
"Well, it's not typical to see Kaminari going off with Kodai," the invisible girl continues. "Kodai is usually seen with Kaibara and Jirou usually goes on bike rides with Kaminari."
Mina's smile widens. "Yeah, I wonder what that's about. Why do you like going on bike rides with Kaminari? Tell me: do you like... riding?"
Jirou gasps. "What?"
"Do you like... riding with him?"
"Uhh."
"Or is it that you want to ride him?"
Jirou feels her heart skip a beat. "That thought never crossed my mind. Honestly... I just like the ride."
"I bet you like squeezing your hands around his chest," Mina says deviously. "I bet you like feeling up his abs. And you're not upset that Kodai's going with him? It's her hands that are going to be on his body, not yours. Doesn't that upset you?"
Jirou blushes. "No."
"Come on, Mina," Tsu begins, "let's show Jirou some mercy. Obviously, she's uncomfortable so... let's drop it."
"I agree," Pony nods. "Besides... Kodai is Kaibara's."
Mina laughs. "Those two are sleeping in the same bed. Do you think they ever..." He marks a circle with one hand and thrusts her index finger in.
Jirou's face turns a deeper shade of red. "Let's not talk about it."
"Kuroiro and Komori," Uraraka suddenly says, "they like to hold each other."
"That's because it's the only way," Jirou argues, "for her to not fall off the bike."
Komori stays silent and nods.
"Hugging people hard," Mina hisses. "You guys seem to like hugging each other hard."
"The four of you spend a lot of time together," Uraraka points out. "Are Komori and Kuroiro growing on you?"
Komori finally finds the courage to speak. "Kuroiro is nice to hang out with. He may be rough around the edges but he's a sweet guy."
Jirou goes next and shrugs. "Well, we did spend the first day of the outbreak surviving together so I'm pretty sure a bond formed."
"Good," Pony smiles. "Speaking of which, where is Shiozaki?"
7:55
Outside the UA Dorms
Following the vine girl outside of the gate, Sero swings to the bottom using his tape arms and begins following the religious vine girl carefully behind. Knowing how dangerous these forests are, he keeps an eye out in all directions to make sure nothing bad happens to her. Sero follows, a kitchen knife in his back pocket ready to slice and dice any zombies that come his way.
Spotting the vine girl stopping near a fallen tree where a walker was lying on, Sero approaches her, only to find that holds a knife up and stabs the walker in the brain. Stopping suddenly, he stays behind a tree while keeping a sharp eye out. Sero begins to approach her before noticing one more walker approaching Shiozaki.
Shiozaki quickly restrains the walker before getting in close to stab it in the brain. Dropping the zombie to the ground, Shiozaki turns and spots Sero ten feet away from her.
"What are you doing here?" she asks.
"I could ask you the same thing. Why did you sneak out?"
Shiozaki looks ahead. She holds up her knife. "Because I knew the others wouldn't agree with me. They wouldn't like it."
"You coming out here, killing zombies? What, are you getting some practice in?"
"I'm not killing zombies. I'm... putting them out of their misery." She chokes up. "I just can't help but feel bad for these zombies. These people are dead but... they're trapped in their own bodies. Stuck in purgatory, forever, until they die. I can't stand seeing these zombies."
"So you came out here to put these zombies out of their miseries," Sero realizes. "Do you believe it? Do you believe you're putting these zombies out of their miseries?"
"Do you?" she counters. "Or do you see these people as nothing more than walking corpses?"
"Uhh, honestly, the idea never crossed my mind. I just saw them as zombies and nothing more."
"And what if it was your mother that you saw? Your mother is a zombie, walking, staggering the earth until someone puts her out of her misery. Never having a funeral, never having a grave, no closure, and living with the knowledge that the thing that was once your mother is now a killing machine. Can you live with the knowledge that your mother is a zombie?"
Sero pauses. "No, I guess not."
"And what would you do if she was a zombie?"
"Put her out of her misery, I guess."
"And that's what I'm doing."
"But... these aren't your parents, right?"
She looks down at the blood on her knife and cringes. "No, but... it doesn't matter. I came to UA to be a hero. Not to kill or take my opponent's life... but to deliver salvation to others."
"I remember. I remember you saying that when Present Mic called you an assassin."
"We haven't come across another living soul in months so I can't offer salvation to survivors... but the least I can do is put zombies out of their misery to make sure they're at peace." She looks at him. "I couldn't help but notice that you came alone. You came here, scolding me about sneaking off when you're sneaking off after me?"
"Yeah. I guess that makes me a hypocrite."
"I'm grateful that you came out looking for me."
Sero looks around. "Are you okay with being out here? These zombies are dangerous."
"I know. I've seen first-hand what they've done but still can't stomach the idea of leaving them out here."
Sero's eyes dart downward. "Do... would you like some company? You know, what if there are runners or beasts? You'll want an extra pair of hands, just in case. And our quirks are kinda compatible for capturing and killing zombies." He pulls out his knife. "How long do you plan on staying out here?"
"I try to free as many souls as I can."
"Well, it's too dangerous to be out here. I'll help you kill some zombies but... the first sign of a horde, I'm swinging us out of here."
"Like Spider-Man?"
"Just like Spider-Man."
Sero and Shiozaki turn and see several walkers approaching them. The two of them use their quirks to restrain and kill as many zombies as they can. By the time they're done, they manage to kill seventeen zombies with Shiozaki killing ten and Sero killing the rest.
8:31
UA Dorms
Climbing on his bike, Kaminari starts up the bike and twists the throttle a few times. Kodai climbs on the back and hangs on tight. Kaminari looks at the others.
"Alright, so... can we go over the plan again?" Kaminari asks reluctantly.
Deku inhales deeply. "Okay, I have marked three locations on your map for you to dri- ride. To ride to. Places for you to ride to so you can look for cars and gas. One's a repair shop, and the other two are car dealerships. Your job is to drive there, find several cars that are in good condition, and bring them back using Kodai's size to shrink the cars."
Hastume steps out. "And if you're lucky, you can bring an extra car or two for me to scrap for parts. I'm sure you all love my babies but of course, I'm going to need some more supplies. I got several ideas to help you kill zombies but I'm going to need parts."
"Thank you, Hatsume," Kendo nods.
"Yes, thank you," Iida goes next before turning to Kaminari. "Listen, we are counting on the two of you to stay out of trouble. We will get this car situation under control first before we head to UA for a supply hunt."
Kaminari repeats the plan out loud to make sure he's got everything. "Okay, I think I got everything." He checks his holster to make sure he's got a knife. "Yeah, I got a knife. And you, Kodai?"
Kodai holds up a knife before pocketing it
"Okay, good. Then... if we travel light, we should be good then. By the way, do you have the jerry cans?"
Kodai reaches into her jacket pocket to pull out a tiny jerry can.
"Okay. We can fill up on gas later."
"If the car's working, shrink it, get it to the gas station, and fill it up. And fill up the jerry can while you at it," Deku reminds.
"Duly noted." Kaminari drums his fingers on the bike. "Okay, we should be good to go. Anyone want to say goodbye before we head off?"
Kaibara steps forward. "Come back alive, Kodai." The emotionless girl nods. He turns to Kaminari. "Both of you come back alive."
Kaminari laughs. "Don't worry; we will." He pulls his mask up before revving the bike up.
Jirou comes running out at the very last second and waves at Kaminari, who misses her by three seconds. "Damn it."
"Let's hope Sparky can handle himself out there," Bakugou grumbles.
"It's okay," Deku insists, "Kaminari can handle himself out there."
8:46
With Kaminari
Riding the bike once more, Kaminari feels as free as a bird soaring through the cloud. He smiles behind his mask before he takes a trail and keeps a sharp eye out for zombies. The day prior, he managed to clean the zombie blood off his blue sunglasses so he could see properly.
Kodai clings to Kaminari by similarly hugging him to Jirou, making Kaminari remember something.
"Hey, Kodai, I've been meaning to ask: are you and Kaibara in a relationship?"
Kodai says nothing.
"I promise I won't tell anyone." He rides around a log. "If you guys are trying to keep it a secret; don't worry because I'm good at keeping secrets. You sleep in the same bed on a regular so... it raises some questions."
"We're close," she says simply.
"Oh, you're close. But... have you guys done the deed yet? You know... uh... making out... in bed... without any clothes?"
"Sex?"
Kaminari feels his face heat up behind the mask. He distracts him by riding over a small hill. "Yeah, I guess you can say that. Are you guys... you know... having...?"
"No."
"Oh okay." He sighs, letting a big puff of air out. "By the way, I've been meaning to ask: what's it like to be in a relationship? Because... I'm kind of picturing myself in a relationship with one of the girls. If I told you who then she'd probably kill me. Unless you can keep a secret. Can you keep a secret?"
"Yes."
"Okay," Kaminari smiles giddily. "I like Jirou. I think I'm in love with her. I don't know, I seriously like hanging out with her. She's super fun and fricking awesome. And she's got a killer attitude to her. How did... how did you and Kaibara fall for each other."
"He saved me."
"Oh, just like that? He saved you and you started sleeping together?"
"We slept together for comfort."
"Oh, for comfort, and then it blossomed into a relationship. I think I get it. Well, Jirou and I love going on bike rides and... I like having her hug me from behind. It's kinda similar right?"
"Kinda."
"Oh, good. You know, you're kinda easy to talk to, Kodai. Does Kaibara say the same thing?"
"Yeah."
He chuckles. "I'm not surprised. Quiet, but a good listener. I bet Kaibara likes that trait of yours the most. Am I right?"
"Yeah."
"Cool. Do you uh... got any relationship advice?"
"You're not in a relationship."
The electric boy winces. "You don't have to remind me."
As the two of them continue to ride off the distance, Kaminari's mind wanders back to Jirou. He's thinking of what she's doing while he's gone and remembers how she wasn't there to wave him off. Very rarely did Kaminari go on supply runs without Jirou. Sometimes Kuroiro and Komori wouldn't come with him but Jirou... Jirou was always there with him. Kinda like a second limb or how the Siamese twins were always together.
I miss Jirou already.
