Key Notes:

For security, certain sources have their names redacted.

This report is classified high security and can only be read by members of the office of the Supreme Chancellor.

The following is intended as a general overview of the subject.

Access Recorded File:

Supreme Chancellor, I and several of my colleagues were allowed a brief but enlightening tour of the Federation, make that United Federation Starship Enterprise. All available news, observations, remarks and extrapolations from any exposure to the vessel have been recorded on this report and arranged as followed:

1. Key Ship Details

2. Offensive/Defensive Capabilities

3. Power Generation

4. Additional Observation

5. General Assessment

Please be aware that any speculations are made purely on observations of the vessel and thus might not be one percent accurate.

End Recording

File 1: Key Ship Details

USS Enterprise, registration NCC(Naval-Construction-Contract) 1701

Class: Constitution Class Refit

Length: 305 meters

Width: 141 meters

Height: 71 meters

Mass: 197.543 metric tons

Cruising Speed: Warp 8

Maximum Speed: Warp 9

Note: The figures for speed were provided but no specific answer to what velocities these figures were given.

It is agreed though that warp speed is much slower than hyperdrive, given its limitations and the fact that the United Federation(UFP) have charted only a relatively small corner of their galaxy when compared to the Galactic Republic. It is noted however, that there appears to be a high rate of improvement given that they have only been relying on this warp drive for nearly a hundred years. It should also be noted that while slower, their warp drive makes them unique in our galaxy and harder to track given the much precision navigation for hyperdrive.

Crew Compliment: 432

Fighter Capacity: None

It appears instead of fighters, the Enterprise and possibly ships of the same class only carry several shuttles. Nothing has been shown to suggest that these shuttles are armed in any manner but further observation may be necessary.

File 2: Offensive/Defensive Capabilities

So far, it has been stated that are at least two kinds of weapons used by the Enterprise.

Phasers:

Initially believed to be another word for lasers or even turbolasers but a few discussion revealed the word 'Phasers' to be short for phased energy rectification. We cannot yet tell what the difference is but given the effectiveness showed against three Lucrehulk class battleships, they cannot be dismissed.

Photon Torpedoes

A torpedo designed with anti-matter warheads, suggesting a high yield. Anti-Matter has been considered possibly only theoretical.

Shields:

Their deflector shields appear to be similar to deflector shields used in our galaxy but there has been little time to discover any similarities or differences to make an accurate observation.

File 3: Power Generation

According to the crew who gave us a tour, the Enterprise and by extension the rest of the Federation fleet, rely on controlled matter/anti-matter reactions with a high level of energy extraction and control never before thought possible. Exact output is unknown but is suggested to be on par or even greater than a hypermatter reactor. The crew were surprisingly and yet expectedly cautious over revealing the source of their technology, specifically of how one might control such power, but we managed to learn they utilize something called dilithium crystals to control the power of the reaction. Currently, we have no idea where these crystals might be found or if they even exist in our galaxy.

It is highly recommended that should the Federation gain some sort of foothold in our galaxy; their ships should be closely monitored for signs of a possible source of dilithium that we can then harvest for our own use.

File 4: Additional Observations

The Transporters they use is beyond anything we could have imagined. According to our tour guide, the Transporter's range can reach as far as thirty thousand kilometers. They routinely use it instead of landing their ship or taking a shuttle down to the surface of any planet they make contact with. It is advanced and yet terrifying given that the Transporter supposedly works by breaking their targets down to their molecular level and then reassembles them at another location.

It is almost maddening they use such technology so casually. In addition, they also use a technology called Replicators that are based on Transporters but are an advanced form of Food Synthesizers that allow for the creation of food and even parts. It is likely because of this technology; Federation ships do not require to be built as large as other ships meant to function for over a long period of time in our galaxy. We have little idea of how these Replicators and Transporters work but given the possible supply of power from their warp core, we have to assume it extremely high.

We should also note that the Enterprise is apparently an old ship, having been in service for nearly over twenty years in its home galaxy. Recently, the ship had undergone an extensive refit that took place over eighteen months and essentially a brand-new vessel was built into the bones of an older one. This shows that the technology is rather new but chances are high that it will advance rather fast if they can learn anything new from our own galaxy.

File 5: General Assessment

It is agreed that the Enterprise and the United Federation of Planets are a treasure trove of technology that could greatly benefit the Republic. However, they will not sell their technology to any foreign power they have little knowledge of. It has been suggested that Naboo would at least need a decade of cultural exchange before it can apply for membership. The Federation evidently believes that trust must be built up slowly and cautiously, which is somewhat understandable.

Making diplomatic overtures would make them open to at least consider trade with many worlds, possibly opening a trade between two galaxies. Further observations would be needed before making any conclusions.
