A/N The Valentine's Day request is here.
It was a chilly winter on Friday in February, today was Valentine's Day and everyone was giving gifts, flowers, cards, teddy bears, and chocolate heart boxes. At school, Autumn, Sawyer, and the kids gave each other Valentine's cards they made from home and bought at the store. They had a big Valentine's Day party, where they drank fruit punch, ate Valentine cookies and cupcakes, and watched Valentine cartoon movies (Winnie the Pooh A Valentine for You and A Charlie Brown Valentine). After the party was over, everyone went to celebrate Valentine's with their friends and families.
The bus driver stopped the bus to take Autumn home where she lived, and Sawyer was going with her. Before they got off, they gave the bus driver Valentine cards.
The bus driver said, "Thank you so much, girls. Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn and Sawyer said, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn and Sawyer got off the bus, and the bus droves away to take the kids home. Autumn and Sawyer went inside to get warm.
Autumn said, "Hi, Mum."
Sawyer said, "Hi, Mrs. Dalten, Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn's mom said, "Happy Valentine's Day to you too, Sawyer. Girls, would you like to decorate Valentine cookies and cupcakes? I just got done baking them."
Autumn and Sawyer said, "Yes."
Autumn and Sawyer took off their jackets, scarfs, hats, mittens, and snow boots, and started washing their hands. Autumn and Sawyer started to decorate the cupcakes and cookies. After it was done, they looked so amazing and pretty.
Mrs. Dalten told them they can have one of each. So Autumn took a Valentine cupcake and Sawyer took a Valentine cookie and began to taste it.
Autumn said, "It's good."
Sawyer said, "Very good."
They asked if they could have another one but Autumn's mother told them later because they were having pizza for dinner.
Autumn's mom said "While you girls go play and wait while I order the pizza."
Autumn and Sawyer said, "Okay."
So, Autumn and Sawyer went along upstairs in Autumn's bedroom to play with Thomas toys.
Autumn asked, "Don't you wish you could meet Thomas, Sawyer?"
Sawyer said in reply, "Maybe I did, only imagination."
Autumn said, "Why don't you come and meet him now?"
Sawyer said, "Really? You mean it?"
Autumn said, "Yes, just close your eyes and touch my Thomas toy. And then something might happen."
Sawyer said "Okay I'll do it.". The girls filled their minds with thoughts of Sodor
Autumn and Sawyer touched the Thomas toy, closed their eyes and began to leave.
When they arrived at Sodor, Sawyer couldn't believe her eyes. Tthe Island of Sodor was real only in storybooks, televisions, and movies.
Sawyer said on arrival, "Wow this is amazing. I guess using our imaginations did work."
Autumn replied, "I told you. Come on, let's go find Thomas."
Then Autumn and Sawyer went to go find Thomas. When they arrived at the station, Autumn spotted Thomas over there and then they rushed to meet him.
Autumn said, "Hi Thomas. Happy Valentine's Day." and hugged her friend.
Thomas said, "Hello Autumn. Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn said, "Thomas, this is my new friend Sawyer."
Thomas said, "Hi Sawyer."
Sawyer said, "Hello Thomas, it's nice to meet you. I've heard of you and I'm a big fan of yours."
Thomas said, smiling cheekily with twinkling black eyes, "I'm glad. So you're the one who helps Autumn to stop the bullies picking on her."
Sawyer said, smiling "Yep, I don't like it when they're being so mean to Autumn so I stood up to them, and I also stood up to the big kid who lives on the other side of the neighborhood away from Autumn."
Thomas said, "You're lucky you have Autumn as your new friend since she won't be lonely anymore." He remembered how Autumn's 2 other friends didn't see her much outside of school, because they each lived in a different neighborhood from her.
Sawyer told Thomas, "I'm glad I met Autumn, she's my best friend."
Autumn heard and said, "You're my best friend too, Sawyer."
Then Autumn and Sawyer shared a hug and smiled.
Autumn asked her little blue engine friend, "So what are you doing Thomas?"
Thomas said, "I'm taking the passengers for a Valentine party at the Town Square."
Sawyer said, "Oh that sounds fun.". She could tell by the tank engine's demeanor he viewed as a fun job.
Autumn said, "Can we join?"
Thomas said, "Of course. Hop aboard."
Autumn and Sawyer hopped aboard on Clarabel. The passengers arrived and climbed aboard, then Thomas set off to the party. When they arrived at Town Square, the passengers and Autumn and Sawyer got off to have fun at the Valentine party. Just then Stephen and Bridge arrived.
Stephen and Bridget said,"Hi Autumn."
Autumn replied "Hi. This is my friend Sawyer."
Sawyer said, "Hi, Stephen."
Stephen replied, "Hi Sawyer."
Bridget added, "Nice to meet you."
Then they set off to play Valentine games. After it was getting late and the party was over, Thomas took the passengers home, while Autumn and Sawyer stayed behind. Autumn made her rounds of Sodor with Sawyer following.
The girls went to Vicarstown and found Rosie on a siding with tear-filled eyes. Autumn went to the red tank engine and Sawyer followed, then sat on the ground beside Rosie.
Autumn climbed on Rosie's buffer beam and gave her a big hug. She said, "What's wrong, Rosie?", then broke the hug.
Rosie began to cry. "N-No o-one l-loves m-me. Th-Thomas l-loves A-Ashima a-and I-I d-don't k-know i-if th-the o-other t-tank e-engines l-love a-anyone," she sniffled, huge tears streaming down her cheeks. Her face was wet with thick tears.
Autumn pulled out her hanky and said, "There, there Rosie. Let me wipe your eyeballs. Just let it all out because I'm for you, to wipe your pain away." She listened attentively, trying to present with Rosie and imagining how broken-hearted Rosie was, as she softly dried her friend's tears, gently rubbing her cheeks and wiping her tear-filled eyes.
Sawyer said, sobbing into her handkerchief, "R-Rosie, y-you're m-making m-me v-very s-sad w-with th-that s-sadness f-falling d-down y-your f-face. "
Rosie cried more, fresh tears pouring from her sad eyes, "I-It br-breaks m-my h-heart t-to h-have n-no l-love o-on V-Valentine's D-Day. I-I j-just f-feel s-so i-ignored.", in a voice filled with small sobs. She sniffled again, hard, coughed as she choked on her sobs and hiccupped. She gasped and gulped, shaking as she wept non-stop. Her sobs weren't loud, but she shed a great many tears, allowing Autumn's comfort.
She said, as she continued to wipe the tears away, "I know you're sad, so just let all the sorrow come out your eyes. I'll dry your eyes and comfort you until you feel better. No rushing your healing with a positive spin as I don't do platitudes or empty promises, just empathy.". She looked at context and thought of possible ways to inspire Rosie as she held her hanky to Rosie's eyes, letting her sob into it and wiped all her tears away as best she could.
Rosie sobbed and sobbed, her tears not once stopping until she had no more left to shed. Autumn dried her last tears away, dabbing her face and eyes until they were dry and gave Rosie the inspiration she thought of. She then put her sodden handkerchief away and finished her rounds as Sawyer followed, then they went back to Thomas. Though Sawyer had finally stopped crying, her face was red and so were her sore and swollen eyes. She blew her nose, all stuffed and runny from crying, as she followed her friend, then put her drippy wet hanky away.
Sawyer said, "Thanks for letting me tag along, Thomas."
Thomas replied, "You're welcome, Sawyer. Glad you had a good time and made new friends."
Sawyer said, "It was fun. Autumn, this was my best day."
Autumn answered, "It sure was. Now it's getting late and it's time to go home."
Sawyer said, "Okay. Thomas, I'll come back for a next visit when I come over at Autumn's place."
Autumn added, "And I'll come over to Sawyer's place."
Thomas replied, "You can come back to visit whenever you want."
Sawyer answered, "I will. Goodbye." and she waved.
Autumn said, "Bye Thomas.", as she hugged him good-bye.
Autumn and Sawyer then said, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Thomas replied, "Happy Valentine's Day, girls."
After saying goodbye, Autumn and Sawyer went back home.
When they arrived home, Sawyer was amazed and happy.
Sawyer said, "Wow Autumn, this is amazing. And it's no wonder you kept a secret to yourself."
Autumn answered, "I always do. So no one will find out."
Sawyer replied, "I won't tell anyone, Autumn. Not the bullies at school and the big kid on the other side of the neighborhood. We'll keep it a secret together."
Autumn added, "A secret is a secret."
Just then Autumn's mother was calling the girls.
Autumn's mom said, "Girls, the pizza is here."
Autumn and Sawyer told her, "Coming."
Autumn and Sawyer came downstairs and started getting plates and napkins. Just then, Autumn's father arrived home from work.
Autumn said, "Hi dad."
Sawyer added, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn's dad replied, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Autumn's dad gave her a cute Valentine teddy bear who was dressed as Cupid, and he gave his wife some roses and a heart box of chocolate. Autumn and her mother thanked him and shared a hug, then the doorbell rang, Autumn's mother went to answer it. It was Sawyer's parents.
Sawyer said, "Hi Mom, hi Dad."
Autumn said, "We're having pizza for dinner, would you join us?"
Sawyer's mom said, "Of course."
Sawyer's dad added, "We'd love to."
Then everyone sat down and got ready to eat. They opened the pizza boxes, one box with cheese pizza is shaped like a heart and the other pizza box with pepperoni pizza also has a shape like a heart. Then everyone started eating and drank strawberry soda. After dinner was over, Sawyer and her parents were ready to go home. Sawyer's parents thanked Autumn and her parents for allowing them joining dinner. Autumn and Sawyer said goodbye and wished each other a Happy Valentine. Then Sawyer and her parents drove away home.
Sawyer pulled out her second handkerchief and blew her nose as she went home. She hadn't felt quite well all day and now her sinuses were congested. She said, after blowing,"I've got bright yellow snot pouring out of my nose, so probably a sinus infection."
While Autumn's parents were cleaning up and saving leftovers, Autumn went to do her bedtime routine. She brushed her teeth, took a bath, gave her parents a goodnight hug and kiss, she read a Valentine book about a teddy bear and his friends (Corduroy and Friends) and she went to sleep with her Thomas plush toy and her new Valentine Cupid Bear.
A/N Keep in mind these girls are on the autism spectrum, probably DSM-IV Asperger's. If you read my old Autumn stories, she has no speech delay to speak of, as when she's almost 3, she says "Cute choo-choo.", which is age appropriate speech for age 2. Sawyer's in some ways, based on my FanFiction buddy, so she's sick a lot. The emotional issues that can be present in the autistic are known to be due to a co-morbidity, alexithymia, which is only present in half the autistic and also TTTE can help those on the spectrum with emotion, like distinguishing feelings. Either Autumn and Sawyer just don't have some of the emotion issues present in some on the spectrum, as girls on the spectrum differ from boys, including in the area of emotion or being Thomas fans made them how they are in the emotion area. There's also what a Temple Grandin book calls Path A and Path B, with Path A being the logical type autism Temple has and Path B being the more emotional type, which her co-author of the books has. Logical girls and emotional guys do exist on the spectrum, but females are thought more likely to be the emotional type. Girl autism can be the way Autumn is about comforting Rosie. I head-canon Sawyer having a viral sinus infection and next chapter will confirm she had one, but she'll be well again by then and having her 11th birthday and Autumn will sleep over at Sawyer's for her birthday.
