This is something that has came into my head after rewatching the original Spider-Man film yesterday. Like a lot of people, I grew up watching the Raimi films, as they were my introduction to Spider-Man, and they are still fun to watch, but one plot point that still bugs me was the retcon of Flint Marko killing Uncle Ben introduced in Spider-Man 3, so I decided to fix it.

Disclaimer: I do not own Spider-Man. It belongs to Marvel, Sony Pictures and Sam Raimi.

Outside the Public Library, Fifth Avenue, Midtown, New York, Night

Ben Parker was inside his car waiting for his nephew, Peter, to return from the library, as he believed Peter was still there studying. A few hours ago, Ben has advised Peter about his newfound power and how that power would come with great responsibility, only for Peter to brush him off and leave. Unknown to Ben, Peter was actually heading to the wrestling arena in order to win money and buy a car for his crush, Mary Jane Watson by fighting wrestling champion, Bonesaw McGraw. The fight promised $3000 for anyone who could last three in the ring against Bonesaw.

While he was contemplating about his conversation with Peter, a man holding a gun knocked on Ben's car window, taking Ben off his thoughts. The man opened the car door and grabbed Ben.

"What is it?" Ben asked.

"I need your car." The man told Ben.

As the man took Ben outside his car and held him at a gunpoint, the elderly Parker noticed fear within the young man's eyes.

"Easy, young man." Ben pleaded. "You don't have to do this."

"I don't have a choice!" The man persisted. "My partner's waiting for me!"

"Hey, hey, hey. Listen to me." Ben told the robber. "Do you have a loved one?"

"I... I have a daughter." The man told Ben. "I'm only doing this for her. She needs help."

"And you think by robbing an old man like me would do anything to help her?" Ben insisted.

The man was left lost for words. His daughter was suffering from a chronic condition, which made him turn to small time crime in order to acquire money for her health. The man told himself that he was doing all of this just for her, but maybe it was only an excuse he made up so he could get away with his crimes. At that moment, the man was unsure what he was supposed to do.

"Tell me, how would your daughter react if she sees her father doing these things?" Ben asked.

"I, um, I don't know." The man stuttered.

"Listen, son." Ben reasoned as he reached his hand to the man's shoulder. "Why don't you just put down the gun and go home? There are other ways you can do to help her. Turning to crime isn't going to solve her problems."

The man thought about what Ben had just told him and began questioning his own actions; would they actually be beneficial to help with his daughter's condition or would they make things worse. He then came to realization that the old man was trying to persuade him to think about the error of his ways and let out a confusing sigh.

"Flint!"

Suddenly, the man, Flint, turned around and saw his partner, Dennis Carradine, running away with the money he robbed from the wrestling promotor and calling out his name. Carradine then placed the money bag on his left arm and grabbed Flint's jacket.

"What are you doing? We gotta go!" Carradine told Flint.

"We don't have to take the old man's car." a confused Flint said. "He doesn't deserve this."

"Oh, are you kidding me? I don't care if he deserves this or not! The cops are on their way!" Carradine persisted.

"Dennis. Why don't we just turn to the police and give them the money?" Flint requested.

"Oh, come on, you expect to turn over to these guys? Not a chance!" Dennis yelled.

Flint dropped his gun on the floor and grabbed the money bag from Carradine. However, Carradine held out to it, leaving the two men struggle over the money. Carradine pushed Flint aside and Ben stepped up to help him.

"What's going on?" Ben asked, confused about what was happening right now.

"That's none of your business, old man!" Carradine screamed.

"Hey. Slow down, son." Ben tried to talk down Carradine. "Why do you just..."

Suddenly, Carradine pulled the trigger and shot Ben in the stomach, causing him to fall on the ground. Flint, having witnessed the shooting, rushed to help Ben and grabbed him.

"No!" Flint screamed.

Flint saw Ben shed a tear on his eyes, leaving him horrified over what had happened. Carradine took advantage of the situation and stole Ben's car, but not before opening the door to call Flint.

"Get in!" Carradine screamed.

Flint didn't care if Carradine was calling him or not as he was focused on tending the injured Ben while Carradine drove away since the cops were on their way to arrest him for robbing the money. Turning his attention to Ben one last time, Flint shed out a tear, not wanting to see the old man who tried to help in such position.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen." Flint apologized.

Though Ben was on his last moments of life, Flint didn't have enough time to call for help as he heard the police sirens reaching out to his ears. The police were soon on their way and Flint had to run away and hide, not wanting to be noticed at the crime scene. Running away immediately, Flint began to show deep guilt over Ben's fate and blamed himself for his death, even though he wasn't responsible for his murder. Alas, due to his fingerprints placed on Ben's clothes, the police would soon believe Flint was the one who killed him.

And that's the end of the story. Maybe it's just me, but I think Flint Marko accidently shooting Ben while his partner calling him was pretty silly and it takes away the emotional core of Peter's origin, so I decided to have Carradine be the one who kills him and Marko being framed for his murder, making Carradine even more of an asshole.

For those who have seen the first film, we all know it ends with Carradine meeting his end by falling off the building after his encounter with Spider-Man, which leads to Peter taking on Ben's mantra, "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility", and living on to his legacy.

Let me know your thoughts on this story and I hope you enjoyed it. Until then, stay safe and take care.
