Kittens and Costume Parties

[Castle Verse]

Part 4

Griffin's office was like a large, dark cave full of odd rustling and creaking sounds that made Shinichi think of deep, dense jungles in the worst possible ways. The atmosphere made Shinichi's skin crawl, and he half expected to see glittering eyes blinking back at him when he gazed into the shadows of the office's interior.

He didn't see any eyes. What he did see, however, was several more potted plants of dubious origins. He saw one with little blades for leaves and another studded with inch-long spikes whose tips glistened with what he would bet was some kind of poison. Yet another appeared to have tiny dragon heads instead of flower bulbs, each of which was currently slumbering with its eyes closed and thin streams of smoke rising from their nostrils.

It was as he studied these potted horrors that Shinichi realized he could see much more clearly than he should logically be able to. It had to be another side effect of the partial morphing potion he'd taken. Like the enhanced hearing, it was a perk he decided he liked, especially since it enabled him to notice and warn Kaito about the strange, smoky vine-like things that lay in meandering lines across the office floor.

Kaito conjured a small, magical light and crouched to examine the vines. Even then, they were difficult to make out.

"I'd guess it's another security system," he said, rising again. "Best not to touch them—or anything else we don't have to, by the looks of this place. We just need to find some sort of inventory record or library directory…"

"There's a tome on the desk that says Records on the spine," Shinichi offered.

Kaito shot him a surprised look. "You can read that from here? Seems that potion's good for more than just making you even more irresistibly adorable."

"Oh be quiet," Shinichi grumbled, blushing. "I'll go check the book."

Not waiting for a response from Kaito, he stepped carefully over the various crisscrossing vines until he reached the desk. Once there, he set the wood block and novel down and began leafing through Griffin's Records.

This particular librarian might have questionable tastes in décor and terrible tastes in houseplants, but he or she was organized when it came to the books in their charge. The book of records turned out to be exactly what it promised, and everything was clearly labeled. Unfortunately, this made it easy to see that the books listed in these records would not be the ones they were looking for.

"This librarian is in charge of the archives on magical animals and plants and related magic," he reported. "That and the geography and astrology archives."

Kaito sighed. "Not what we want then. Figures it wouldn't be the first one we found. Oh well. On to the next office then."

The next office—or rather the next place the bell lead them—was a stretch of wall covered with carved flowers beside the statue of a fairy holding an unfurled scroll etched with numbers.

"A secret door, maybe?" Kaito mused as he moved closer to run his fingers over the stone flowers, searching for hidden panels and hinges. Behind him, Shinichi moved to study the fairy's scroll. Those numbers didn't look random, he thought, intrigued.

"There doesn't appear to be a switch in any of these," Kaito mused. "And I don't feel any magic…"

He stopped when there was a loud clunk then a whirring. Then suddenly the wall in front of him split down the middle, shifted outward and began sliding apart to either side. He blinked then glanced back to where Shinichi was standing in front of the scroll with a hand up as though he'd been pressing buttons.

Or pressing numbers on a stone scroll.

"It was a number puzzle," the kitty librarian explained with a pleased grin. "Each flower on the wall is a number based on its number of petals. I noticed that they fit into a nine by nine grid but with empty spaces. It's that number puzzle game with the sets of nine. The numbers that go into the empty spaces are the key code, so you just have to press the correct number in each number block on the scroll here. The maker made sure that the locations don't correlate though so—"

"Okay, okay," Kaito said, laughing as he held up his hands. "That was very well done. But it looks like that was just the first puzzle. So we may want to get started on the next."

"There are more?" Shinichi's kitty ears perked up in delighted anticipation, and he was through the open doorway before Kaito finished noticing that he had moved.

Chuckling, the magician shook his head and followed his dear librarian into the office.

As promised, the room beyond was walled with large, colorful cubed boxes stacked on top of one another. Every cube had strange etchings on their fronts. Each, they guessed and later confirmed, was a puzzle that would unlock a section of records. And it seemed the puzzles were themselves part of the filing system.

Shinichi was delighted. He scurried from one wall of cubes to the next, examining each box's front plating and muttering to himself.

Kaito left him to it because he knew Shinichi enjoyed solving puzzles, and he enjoyed watching Shinichi solve puzzles. It was the intensity in his eyes and the way they lit up when something finally clicked into place. Those moments and that expression of pure delight were and would always be, Kaito thought, one of the most beautiful sights in the world to him. They were ephemeral treasures that he cherished whenever he was given the opportunity to do so.

That pure, innocent joy in the solving of a problem or the discovery of a good book was one of his Shin-chan's most charming qualities, he thought. It was a reminder that such simple joys could exist and that you did not need great treasures or to do great deeds to find fulfillment. In the end, happiness was about appreciating the little things—the daily miracles and little wonders that peppered every life for those who were willing to see them.

Although he also had to shake his head at how ridiculously complicated this office set up was. All the librarians had to do was know what books they had and keep track of where they were, right? So why scramble everything and put the information into code? Obviously these people had too much time on their hands. That or the people around here made a habit of trying to make sure guests needed assistance to find books—which, he decided, wouldn't surprise him one bit considering who their employer was.

"We're in luck," Shinichi announced excitedly. "The records here include those for books on ancient civilizations, their culture, myths and magic. They actually have a copy of The Path of Gods."

"That's one of the books stolen from the Ebon archives, isn't it?" Kaito asked, his own excitement rising as well.

"It is," Shinichi agreed, producing his notebook and scribbling down what Kaito assumed were directions to the location of the book in question. "They also have a copy of An Exploration of Lost Treasures."

"Anything else?" Kaito asked eagerly, moving to join his beloved by the filing cabinets.

"Let me see." Shinichi checked the information he had about the books that had been stolen from the Ebon archives by the group that they were almost certain had been involved in Kuroba Toichi's death. Then he moved back to the walls of cabinets, wandering along it until he located the cabinets he wanted and solved their puzzle keys. He proceeded to riffle through the files within. Eventually, however, he shook his head. "Sorry. That seems to be all the matches."

"Well, two is better than none," Kaito replied. "If anything, it's more than I expected." He glanced at Shinichi's notes and frowned. "Are those supposed to be directions?"

"They should be. They correspond to the pattern of the floor tiling wherever the library paths branch," Shinichi replied. "Didn't you notice?"

Kaito coughed lightly, mildly embarrassed. "I was a little too busy with the bell to be sight seeing. In any case, we better get a move on now that we know where we're going."

"Yeah…"

"What is it?" Kaito asked sharply.

Shinichi glanced up at him then back down at the papers he was paging through, brows furrowed. "It could be nothing, but I think we should also take a look at Tales of Land and Sea."

Kaito raised his eyebrows. "Why? What's that?"

"The notes say it's a book of collected creation myths. It was written by the same person who wrote the lost treasures book."

"…Okay," Kaito said slowly. "And you think we should check it out because…?"

Shinichi hesitated again then sighed. "Because the last person to ask to see it went by Chris."

Kaito tensed as his eyes narrowed. "One of the ex-Ebon mages you mean."

"Maybe. It's not a rare name," Shinichi reminded him. "It could be someone entirely unrelated. But since we're here and it's in the same archive where these other books are, I figured we might as well check it out."

Kaito nodded slowly. "Does it say when this Chris came to see the book?"

"Four years ago."

"Four years…" Kaito closed his eyes, face going perfectly still as he worked to collect himself.

Understanding his turmoil, Shinichi stayed quiet and focused on finishing going through the records in his hands. Four years wasn't exactly recent, but it was certainly a lot more so than any of the other traces they had thus far found of Kuroba Toichi's enemies. To think that they might even now be standing in the footsteps of those people… It had to be frustrating, Shinichi thought, to be so close yet so far from the answers at the same time.

The hike (because that was the only word that could properly describe the trek) from the second librarian's office to the location of the books they were searching for was short but arduous, with numerous twists and turns, ups and downs, and another brief battle with a pair of stone gargoyles.

"Are you sure you should have broken them?" Shinichi asked as he stepped gingerly over the pile of rubble that was all that was left of said gargoyles.

"If he didn't want us damaging the things, he should have given us a pass," Kaito grumbled back, examining a tear in his sleeve that had been left by one of the gargoyle's stony claws. "He should just be grateful I took care not to damage any of the books."

Obstacles aside, however, they found all three books they were looking for without too much trouble. Which was why they were now standing in one of the library's reading areas.

"So what now?" Shinichi asked. "There's no way we can read all these thoroughly in the time we have."

"Ah, but that, my dear, is where our secret weapon comes in." Grinning, Kaito set the three books they had gathered out on one of the three massive desks in the middle of the reading area side by side. Then he took the block of wood from Shinichi and set it on top of the first book. Then he tapped on the center of the block and muttered something under his breath. He produced two more similar blocks of wood seemingly from thin air and repeated the process with the remaining books.

As Shinichi watched, all three blocks began to glow. Soon the blocks looked more like solid chunks of light than wood. Their radiance spread downward, engulfing the books beneath them.

Kaito hummed in satisfaction and stood back. "Now we wait."

"For what?" Shinichi asked. "What are they doing?"

"They're copying the books," Kaito replied.

"Just like that?"

"Well, it's not permanent," the magician admitted. "They'll revert to the original objects in two weeks. And they can only copy the physical appearance. Any spells or special characteristics can't be copied. But this means that we'll be able to copy the basic text. Then we can take it home and copy the contents to real paper by hand for a lasting copy."

"That's…going to be a lot of work."

Kaito shrugged. "Beggars can't be choosers. At least this way we have a better chance of finding something useful than if we only had a handful of hours to skim all three books. Incidentally, I prepared five copy blocks. Since we only have three books we need, we could use one of the extras on that novel if you want."

Shinichi brightened. "Are you sure?"

Kaito smiled. "Of course. It does mean you can't read it yet though."

Feeling that that was a small price to pay, Shinichi handed over the novel he'd picked up earlier, and Kaito set it up for replication. Then, since they had one more copy block and it seemed a waste not to use it, they selected another book—an expedition journal by a renowned archeologist that was yet another nearly impossible find—from the neighboring shelves. With all five books set up for copying, all they could do was wait.

Well, wait and read, which, as far as Shinichi was concerned, was a pretty good deal.

"Since we're here anyway and he has all these rare old books, we might as well see what else we can find that might be of use," Shinichi had reasoned, and Kaito had been forced to agree.

And so the two of them had left their copy blocks at work on the desk of the reading area along with their jackets and ventured out into the stacks, where they pulled books with promising titles off the shelves at random and skimmed through the potentially relevant portions of their contents. Shinichi would pause occasionally to take notes or ask Kaito a question, and Kaito would speak up now and then to share an interesting tidbit or ask Shinichi to note something down. Otherwise, however, they worked in silence.

Letting his breath out in a quiet sigh, Shinichi returned the latest book he had been perusing to the shelves then selected two more. Since these two were much heavier tomes, he decided to carry them back to the reading area, where he set them on one of the as yet unoccupied tables. A glance over at the cloning blocks revealed that they were still glowing away, presumably working hard. He watched them for a moment longer then turned back to his finds. He picked up the first book and flipped open its table of contents.

A strange tingling raced over his scalp and down the length of his spine, and he shivered.

Kaito stepped out of the stacks, glanced at the radiant cloning blocks much as Shinichi had done before him, then exhaled sharply and turned his gaze to his librarian. How Shinichi could spend so many straight hours with his nose in a book was one thing Kaito would never understand. He liked reading well enough himself, but he was getting seriously restless with all this sitting and standing around.

Indigo eyes blinked. "Oh hey, Shinichi, the potion's worn off."

Shinichi turned a page then reached up to feel about the top of his head. No furry triangles.

"About time," he remarked then went right back to reading.

"Everything feel back to normal?" asked Kaito.

Shinichi gave a half shrug, still not looking up. "I guess so. I can still hear better than normal, and everything's still a bit tingly. But it does seem to be passing."

"I see."

With his back to the magician as he stood at the table, reading, Shinichi didn't see the wicked gleam that appeared in Kaito's indigo eyes. And even with his heightened hearing, he didn't hear the stealthy magician tiptoeing up behind him.

He did notice when a pair of strong arms slid around him from behind to pull him back flush against a very familiar chest. However, used to his practical joker of a partner, he managed not to jump. Instead, he turned the page in the book he'd been skimming and continued working. He kept on working even when Kaito lowered his head to nuzzle the crook of his neck.

Frowning at the lack of reaction, Kaito nipped sharply at the tender skin of his partner's neck.

Shinichi dropped his book.

"H—hey," he protested, turning around in the magician's embrace. He couldn't get any more words out though as he abruptly found his mouth otherwise occupied.

Kaito wasted no time deepening the kiss as he ran calloused hands up under Shinichi's shirt. Shinichi moaned softly, melting into the embrace despite himself. His hands curled into the front of the magician's shirt. Kaito immediately pressed closer, backing Shinichi right up against the desk where he'd been working.

Shinichi gasped into the kiss as one of Kaito's knees forced itself between his thighs and pushed upward, pressing against his growing arousal. Kaito had him trapped, and it was turning him on.

"B—but we only have a day," he protested weakly.

"We are taking a break," Kaito declared in no uncertain terms before stealing another, even more heated kiss that had Shinichi's head spinning and his body craving more.

He was fighting a losing battle, he knew. Kaito was clearly done with working for the moment. The hunger in his eyes was burning fierce and predatory, and Shinichi was the prey.

Another wave of heat rolled through Shinichi's body, and he found himself moving closer to the taller man without evening thinking about it. Kaito was right, he decided. A break wouldn't hurt.

He wrapped his arms around Kaito's neck and pressed himself flush against the taller man's strong body.

Knowing that Shinichi had already surrendered, Kaito smirked and ran his hands down the smooth planes of Shinichi's back. Then one of his hands slid down further to cup the softly firm curve of Shinichi's bottom through his soft silk pants. Naturally, that was when his fingers discovered that the garment was missing a piece.

Fingertips grazed heated skin, and Shinichi jumped, face flaming red.

"There's a hole in my pants!" he exclaimed, horrified, then considered smacking himself for the obvious statement. Now that he had no tail, of course there was going to be a hole in his pants where it had been.

Kaito grinned and slid two fingers through that hole to tickle Shinichi's tailbone before sliding down the cleft between his cheeks.

"It seems you do," he commented.

Shinichi blushed and smacked him lightly on the shoulder, though he made no move to try and wiggle out of the magician's grasp (possibly because he knew he wouldn't get far). "Do something about it. I can't walk around like this."

"As you wish~"

Shinichi realized his mistake a moment too late as his pants and undergarments simply vanished.

"That's not what I meant!" he spluttered.

"Well, you said you didn't want to walk around like that, and now you don't have to," Kaito replied cheerfully.

"This is not an improvement!"

Kaito smirked. "Oh? Are you sure about that?" He breathed the second question into Shinichi's ear as he traced two fingers from Shinichi's tailbone down between his cheeks (no longer impeded by inconvenient garments) to rub teasingly at his entrance. Shinichi's breath hitched, and Kaito's smirk grew when he felt that sensitive ring of muscle twitch as Shinichi's hips shifted in an unconscious plea for more. In response, the magician allowed his fingertips to press just past Shinichi's entrance before withdrawing again.

Shinichi let out an involuntary whine of protest then blushed, and Kaito chuckled.

"You're adorable," he said, dropping a kiss on the tip of Shinichi's nose.

"And you're incorrigible," Shinichi grumbled, though his tone was fond. And when Kaito leaned down to kiss him, he parted his lips eagerly to grant the magician entrance.

Tongues tangled as Kaito's hands slid over Shinichi's bare hips and up under his shirt to caress his sides and sensitive stomach. Then those dexterous fingers found his nipples, and Shinichi gasped.

Grinning, Kaito trailed kisses down Shinichi's neck before choosing a spot at the junction between Shinichi's neck and shoulder (just below his kitty collar) to bite down hard enough to elicit a stifled yelp. He proceeded to lick and suck at the spot as his hands made quick work of the buttons on Shinichi's shirt before returning to their exploration of his lover's lean, lithe body.

Shinichi's eyes fluttered shut, and he tilted his head to give Kaito better access. His breaths quickened. Heat crawled over and under his skin, making him feel warm even though all he was wearing was an unbuttoned silk shirt and the blue kitty collar proclaiming that he belonged to Kaito.

The thought sent a jolt of arousal through his veins that had him struggling to bite back a whimper. His cheeks grew heated with a blush that was equal parts embarrassment and excitement.

Then Kaito's hands were massaging his behind even as the magician ground their hips together, and he found himself clinging to Kaito's lapels as a breathless little cry forced itself from his throat. Strong hands closed on Shinichi's waist, lifting him. A moment later, he was seated on the desk with Kaito between his legs.

The magician, he realized dazedly, was still fully clothed, but that did nothing to hide his very obvious arousal. This was especially true when his grip on Shinichi's hips tightened, tugging him forward as Kaito pressed closer. The feel of rough cloth rubbing against the sensitive skin of his inner thighs and Kaito's clothed erection grinding against his own had Shinichi mewling. He didn't know if it was the potion still lingering in his system or if his body was just overly sensitive after their extremely active night, but he felt as though fireworks were dancing all up and down his nerves with every grazing touch.

"Kai," he gasped, burying his face in Kaito's shoulder.

Kaito made a low humming sound that reverberated through the both of them.

"Yes?" he asked as he gave their hips another roll. "Does my little kitten want something?"

Shinichi whimpered. He knew exactly what he wanted. He was hot and aroused, and he wanted Kaito to touch him—to fill him. Memories of their activities last night spun through his mind, not helping his thought processes in the slightest. He could recall all too clearly the feel of Kaito's skin against his own, the ache as his inner muscles stretched to accommodate his master's large cock, the pleasure as Kaito moved deep inside him, and that moment when he felt his magician come inside him, the sense of fullness and completion—

Words jumbled in Shinichi's throat, and all he managed to say was "Please…" as he gazed up at his lover, big blue eyes hazy with want.

Kaito made an almost strangled sound that was half laugh, half groan as his indigo eyes went almost black with lust. "God, do you have any idea what it does to me when you look at me like that? All flushed and needy, begging to be ravished."

Shinichi let out a squeak as he suddenly found himself pushed down onto the desk with Kaito looming over him. The magician had a firm grip under his knees, spreading Shinichi's legs wide and pushing them up so that he was fully exposed to his lover's hungry gaze.

"It makes me want to bury myself in that perfect little hole of yours and fuck you until you beg for mercy," Kaito finished with a grin that was just this side of feral.

Shinichi blushed and gulped as his throat went abruptly dry. The magician's grin grew as he saw the way Shinichi's hole twitched in response to his words. Then Kaito leaned down and kissed Shinichi hard, plundering Shinichi's mouth in an unconscious imitation of the way Kaito planned to plunder his body.

Shinichi responded eagerly to the kiss and its silent promise. He barely noticed when Kaito's right hand released him. Nor did he hear the rustling of cloth, the pop of a cap opening or the clack of a tube bouncing across the table.

He did notice when Kaito pushed two long, lubed fingers past his entrance. The fingers immediately began moving in and out of him, pushing deeper with each thrust. Two fingers became three, and they began to twist and scissor, stretching him, preparing him for Kaito's cock.

Pleasure pulsed through his veins at the thought, and Shinichi moaned loudly, inner muscles clenching eagerly around Kaito's thrusting fingers. His hips rocked in an attempt to take those fingers in even deeper, and it was Kaito's turn to moan. Unable to wait any longer, the magician slid his fingers out of his panting lover and replaced them with his now rock hard erection.

Hands moving to grip his lover's hips, Kaito thrust himself all the way into Shinichi's tight heat. Shinichi opened up beneath him, inner walls stretching and sliding over and around Kaito's cock until he was fully enveloped in a hot, tight sheath.

Shinichi's head fell back against the desk as he let out a long, breathless moan of pleasure. It never seemed to matter how many times Kaito had taken him. This moment always felt new. He squirmed a little, feeling the strain in his bottom as he was stretched to his limit to accommodate Kaito's length. It was big and hot and hard and exactly what he wanted.

His muscles clenched then relaxed, and he felt more than heard Kaito chuckle.

"Ready?" the magician asked.

Not quite able to form words, Shinichi nodded.

Kaito shifted, pulling himself nearly all the way out of Shinichi before thrusting all the way back in with a firm, deliberate motion that had Shinichi's back arching and toes curling in pleasure. Smirking at the response, Kaito repeated the action, in and out, in and out. He forced himself to keep the pace moderate at first because he hadn't spent quite as much time preparing Shinichi as he normally would have, but it wasn't long before his little kitten was moving into his thrusts, helping to drive Kaito deeper into that delectable heat.

Unable to resist the siren's song of Shinichi's body any longer, Kaito picked up the pace. Soon he was ramming himself deep into Shinichi's eager body hard and fast, again and again and again, spurred on by the increasingly loud cries of pleasure spilling from his lover's kiss-swollen lips.

Kaito found that his pleasure in the moment was made all the more satisfying by the fact that he was making love to his Shinichi right here on one of Yamashira's prized antique desks in the middle of the snob's equally prized and off limits library.

He leaned over to kiss Shinichi again, fierce and demanding. His fingers dug into Shinichi's hips hard enough to bruise the skin. And under him, Shinichi writhed in helpless ecstasy, bound to his will and eager for his pleasure—ready to be touched and taken any way Kaito so desired.

Shinichi came first with a scream as his inner muscles constricted almost impossibly tight around the cock still moving inside him. Kaito grunted and managed a few more hard thrusts before he too came, pumping his essence deep inside Shinichi's shuddering body. The sensation of Kaito's hot essence spurting inside him, filling him, sent a convulsive shudder of pleasure through Shinichi's tired body, and he came again.

They both collapsed, Shinichi flat on his back on the large, antique desk and Kaito on top of (and still inside of) him.

For a long moment, neither of them moved, just taking a moment to catch their breaths as their heart rates gradually slowed to something approaching normal.

"I've decided I believe in fate," Kaito murmured against Shinichi's lips. His lover made a questioning sound, and the magician drew back a little to smile down at him. "Because clearly the heavens made you to be mine."

Shinichi blinked then rolled his eyes, though a pleased blush dusted his cheeks. "You're such a sap," he said fondly, threading his fingers through Kaito's messy hair and pulling the magician down for another long, lingering kiss. Silently though, he admitted that the idea that he and Kaito had been made for one another sounded right to him. If there was such a thing as something that was meant to be, it would be that.

Eventually, Kaito broke the kiss with a sigh. "Much as I'd like to continue, we should probably break for lunch."

Shinichi found he had to resist the urge to protest. He wanted Kaito to keep touching him. He blamed the potion because it was less embarrassing than admitting that he might just be addicted to Kaito's touch. His resolve not to say anything didn't stop him from whimpering as Kaito pulled out of him.

The sound earned him a smirk from Kaito. "Don't worry Kitten. We'll play some more later."

Blush darkening, Shinichi grumbled something incoherent and slid off the desk. His legs wobbled under him, and he ended up leaning on the desk for support—a fact that Kaito observed with a deep-seated sense of satisfaction. He wanted to bend Shinichi over and take him again, but he refrained with an effort. There would be time for that later.

With the help of a little magic, they were soon cleaned up and properly dressed. They ate the sandwiches they'd brought with them while discussing some of the more interesting things they'd read. Then they paid a quick visit to the nearest restroom, which resembled nothing so much as a marble bat cave complete with stone bats with beady little ruby eyes.

"Well that's not something you see everyday," Kaito observed as they left.

Shinichi snorted. "Fortunately."

They returned to their borrowed rooms that evening with the five copied books carefully hidden in one of Kaito's multidimensional pockets.

Some of the party guests had already left to head home, but quite a few had opted to accept Yamashira's hospitality for another night. The mansion halls were thus busy both with guests saying their goodbyes and those mingling while they waited for dinner to be served.

For their part, Kaito and Shinichi had decided that they would be heading home now that they had what they had come searching for. Neither of them was interested in round two with Yamashira and his rude, self-centered friends.

Having finished checking that they had packed all their belongings, Shinichi stretched then let his arms drop to his sides with a sigh. "I'm glad that's over. I hope we don't have to come back. This experience is not one I want to repeat.'

"Aww, I'm hurt," Kaito declared, hugging Shinichi from behind. "Didn't you enjoy being my little kitten?"

"I meant the party," Shinichi said before his brain caught up to his mouth. He blushed and tried to wiggle out of the magician's hold. "You're such a pervert."

Kaito's arms tightened around him, keeping Shinichi pinned flush against the taller man's chest. This close, he felt more than heard Kaito chuckle.

"I notice you're not denying that you enjoyed it," Kaito said, a wicked grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "You know, I still have some of that potion left over from the batch I brewed for the party. How about we pick up where we left off when we get home?"

"You realize we literally have thousands of pages of text we need to copy before the duplication magic wears off in two weeks."

Kaito grimaced. "Sad but true. After that then. We'll certainly deserve some time to ourselves then."

"…Okay," Shinichi mumbled. He was very carefully not looking at Kaito, but he didn't have to see it to know that Kaito was grinning.

"Excellent," the magician said. "It's a promise." He gave Shinichi another squeeze then let go. "Come on. It's time to go home."
