The two of them went up to the little balcony again to watch the battle and still be in safety a little because whoever entered would first need to come up the stairs. By now also the city was being attacked and Lhindril was relieved they hadn't gone there. If only everything went well, she constantly thought because if something happened to Fíli she wouldn't know what to do or where to go.

"Lhindril, look!" the Hobbit called suddenly and pointed into the fighting crowd. After a while she recognized Thorin and three other Dwarves, Dwalin, Kíli and Fíli on goats, riding towards a large hill. Almost right behind it came another Orc army marching towards the place and she realized that if they reached that hill the four Dwarves would be lost and maybe also everyone else.

"We have to warn them" she called as she was already sprinting down the stairs.

"Wait you can't just rush out of there. Thorin told us to stay here" to her surprise she did stop for a short while.

"I know. But what if they didn't see them? We just have to do something!"

"Or we go to Dale. Gandalf is there and he'll know what to do"

"That will take too long. Or will you stay here?" obviously he did not want that and followed the woman and only when she was outside did she realise that maybe it would have been good to take weapons because going into battle with only one dagger wasn't the best idea. And it even was her first time to be in a battle.

"Lhindril, watch out!" she heard Bilbo and turned around to him but couldn't see him. She called for him and suddenly the Orc next to her fell onto the floor dead "Listen, I'm invisible, thanks to a ring that I found in the Goblin tunnels so don't look for me" now his voice was directly next to her. Of course it confused her but she found it wasn't the time to ponder about it and decided to focus on getting to that hill instead. They chose to go through places that didn't have too many fighters and made a few little detours but these probably were the reason she made it there alive. Now the most difficult part seemed to be finding the others. When searching for them she suddenly met a couple of Orcs but just ran away from them, later regretting that decision because there suddenly were now over ten of them, too much for her to kill. What saved her were Thorin and Dwalin who fought Goblins on a little platform and after discovering her behind them, the two killed her followers as well.

"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you take refuge in the mountain? What should I have told Fíli if something happened to you?"

"Where is he?" she asked a little out of breath

"Fíli? I sent him and Kíli to find Azog in the towers. They're supposed to come back if they find something"

"Alright. But listen, Thorin, another army of Orcs is coming this way from over there" she pointed in the direction "We have to leave. Now"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, we've seen it from Erebor and came here to warn you"

"Who is 'we'?" Dwalin now asked.

"Bilbo and I. Bilbo, come on here and show yourself" she called into the nothingness "Or say something at least." But nothing happened. Damn. Had something happened to him?"

"What's the matter?" Thorin asked, looking at her suspiciously so she explained him about Bilbo being invisible. It seemed like they didn't believe her but then suddenly Bilbo showed up from one second to the other behind Thorin, breathing heavily.

"Thorin, we have to leave. Azog has another army and they're gonna attack this place here" Dwalin said they should search the towers to find the pale Orc

"No. That's what he wants. He wants to draw us in. This is a trap" she took a deep breath

"But Fíli and Kíli are in there" she breathed in fear. Thorin nodded grimly

"Find them, call them back" not needing to be told twice, Lhindril hurried off despite not even knowing where the brothers but just started calling for them. She found it suspicious that there was no answer and so decided to search the inside of the towers anyways, whether Thorin wanted it or not. But then she saw Kíli coming out of the tower in front of her. Before he could even ask what she was doing here, she called

"Where's Fíli?" as he began to explain that he'd sent Kíli back she suddenly heard drums coming from the tower and although she wanted to go even closer, she stopped where she was, watching how flames and shadows danced against one of the walls on the tower's inside. Suddenly, Azog stepped out of it, a little bent to the side. Then she saw the reason for that posture and her stomach clamped painfully. He was dragging Fíli along on the ground next to him. Despite first standing there like frozen, she soon caught herself (as much as was possible) and started screaming.

"Fíli! No!" then she turned to the others that had joined her "We have to do something. Do something. Help me! Fíli!" she screamed while picking up whatever she could grab and throwing it at the pale Orc. But he reached the front of the little platform and held the blond Dwarf up, saying something in Black speech.

"Go" Fíli uttered while Azog pulled back his left arm that now had a sword instead of his claw attached to it. His intention was obvious and Lhindril grabbed a handful of snow, hurling it at him but she couldn't see if she hit him now or not because Dwalin was with her, grabbed her and covered her eyes with his hand "Run"

"Let me go!" she cried desperately "Do something!" like made she was trashing about and tried to free herself until Dwalin did let her go. Only a couple of feet in front of them lay Fíli. In exasperation she sank to the ground "No" she whispered, crawling over to him, feeling worse than words could describe and sick. This couldn't be the end. Not when he had promised to be there for her. Placing her head on his chest she started sobbing and soon was crying. It had been years since she cried that hard. The last time was when she was kneeling over her father's dead body twenty years ago. And now again she was mourning someone who meant everything to her despite not having known him for such a long time. She realised that both times Azog was the one responsible and she started hating him even more for having managed to take her loved ones twice. "Come on Fíli, don't leave me, please" she took his hand "Don't do this to me. By all Valar, I'd give everything if this wasn't true" she lifted her head to peck his lips and close his eyes. How could life be so fragile when love and friendship was so strong? She pondered what to do now. Well, in fact there was only one thing left to do for her – to kill Azog. So she took out her dagger, holding it tightly. Once this was over she wouldn't have a weapon anymore. That's what she promised herself when her father died in front of her eyes and she killed Azog's minion by throwing a dagger in his head, never retrieving the weapon. With the second dagger she had wanted to defeat Azog but he was already gone since the others were shooting arrows at him. Lhindril swore that she would try to find this Orc and then personally push her second dagger, which she carried on her person ever since, into his head. "I owe it to you" she whispered like years ago "I owe it to both of you"

"Lhindril, watch out!" she suddenly heard Bilbo calling for her and it was the first thing that she noticed around her and she shot up. She heard steps quite close to them and soon there were Orcs that were immediately attacked by Bilbo and Dwalin. She looked around and realised that Thorin and Kíli were gone. Some of the Orcs would have killed her if Dwalin had not come to her aid, telling her to get away and defend herself. Once all Orcs were dead, Dwalin left too and more Orcs came. The one in front rammed his weapon against Bilbo's head who fell back and Lhindril hoped he wasn't dead for he didn't move. Then the Orc turned to her and her heart seemed to froze. How was this possible? She knew the Orc. The one she had believed to have killed twenty years ago. But obviously all she managed to do was throw the dagger at his eye and make him blind on it. Obviously amusing himself very much, he marched towards her, while she only clung to Fíli, not knowing if the Orc knew her too or not. But he lifted her up by her throat and began talking In Black Speech before throwing her to the ground. It didn't hurt as much as she thought and still she yelled out in pain. He grabbed her hair and started dragging her along, making her ask herself why he didn't just kill her. Suddenly someone lunged at the Orc and she saw Tauriel. He dropped Lhindril and then slammed Tauriel against a wall.

"Run" she breathed but Lhindril felt bad for leaving her behind and instead called for help. Meanwhile the Elf got back up and ran towards the Orc only to get thrown to the ground as well. The Orc marched towards them both with his weapon, some sort of mace, but before he could do anything Kíli jumped at him from above, trying to stab him. But the Orc prevented that by lifting his weapon and then smashed Kíli down onto the ground as well. Lhindril grabbed her dagger and got up, towards the Orc who lifted the Dwarf onto his leg and also Tauriel tried to attack him again but she was hurled away before he kicked Lhindril down and placed his other foot on her stomach. She rammed her dagger into his leg but that didn't bother him and he only raised his bludgeon again and rammed the tip into Kíli's upper body.

"No!" Lhindril choked out and Tauriel just yelled out. Oh, the Orc would pay for this! He just dropped Kíli and then pulled Lhindril up, pressing her against the closest wall. While she tried to defend herself he pulled the dagger from his leg and moved it dangerously close to her face. It seemed like he did remember her… she tried to fight him with all her might or to get away at least which she only managed when Tauriel lunged at him and grabbed him while pushing herself off the wall that the two of them fell into the abyss nearby. After she caught herself a little from the shock, Lhindril sank to the ground in desperation and anger, not able to move again because she blamed herself for what had just happened. Her look fell onto her dagger that the Orc must have dropped and knew what she had to do. And wanted to do. With wobbly legs she got up after taking her dagger. "Azog, you filth. I'm here, vile scum of Morgoth. Damned murderer" from not too far she heard a cracking sound and decided to check it out and got closer to the abyss. There was a tower that had fallen and was stuck between two parts of the rock. On it were Legolas, the blond Elf and the Orc from before fighting each other. A little below she saw Tauriel who was moving around in agony. Although she wanted to go and help her, she then saw something else, an icy surface a little above. There was Thorin, fighting against Orcs. Hoping that Azog would be close or at least get there at some point she wanted to go there too. Which meant all she needed was to find a way there.

Having finally found it, she only saw a couple of dead Orcs and Thorin who was watching something on the ground until he suddenly let out a cry and sank to his knees while Azog broke through the ice underneath and threw Thorin onto his back. Yelling the Dwarf's name, Lhindril ran towards them, careful to not slip on the ice. In the meantime Azog was trying to stab Thorin who was holding his own sword underneath his to prevent it. But then, when she almost reached them, he looked at her and then let his own sword sink that Azog pushed his sword arm deep into Thorin's chest. Gasping, she stopped and stood there like frozen before continuing to run just when Thorin stabbed the pale Orc in the chest with Orcrist. Having finally reached them, she threw herself against the Orc and tried to get him off of Thorin which oddly she managed. Although he was already fatally wounded, she still drove her dagger into his upper body with a fierce anger before ramming it into his head and not removing it.

"That's for everything you took from me. My father and Fíli" her glance fell to the Dwarf next to her and she swallowed "And probably Thorin too" she whispered while tears came to her eyes. The Orc wheezed for another blink of an eye and then was finally dead. Despite everything she felt pride and glee at finally seeing the murderer dead and she moved away from him, panting heavily. But it was too late. Those that she loved most were already lost and nothing would bring them back. Not even this. All the joy she had initially felt about his death disappeared and with it the feeling of having completed her goal by destroying the enemy once and for all. There still was anger and sadness flooding her and she sank to her knees with a piercing scream. And with it, all feelings left her body. What remained was only emptiness.
