He awoke in a hospital with gentle music playing in the room, some flowers were sat on the window shelf next to him.
'Who's sent those?' he wondered
Izuku pushed himself out of the bed, wincing slightly at the lingering pain in his shoulder and made his way over to read the card. It read, 'Nice work, I look forward to working together in the future - Endeavor'
"Why would Endeavor send me a card?" he whispered in bewilderment
Before he had the chance to try and figure it out, the door opened and a small nurse walked in.
"Ah Mr. Midoriya, I see you're up, I just need to run some tests before I can discharge you" she informed him.
"That's no trouble" he replied, sitting back down on the bed. The nurse ran all the tests she needed to and promptly discharged Izuku.
"Um, excuse me, where are the others I came in with?" he asked
"They're just down the hall, you were given a private room because you had more serious injuries"
"Thank you"
He left the room and made his way down the sterile hallway. He noticed Manual sat outside one of the rooms.
"Hey Midoriya!" he waved
"Hi Manual, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm all good, angry about what Iida did but I'm glad you and Todoroki were there to save him, they're in some trouble though. Got the Chief of Police in there running them the riot act"
"I hope they aren't going to be prevented from being heroes." Izuku replied
"Nah just a slap on the wrists, Miruko is pissed about getting credit for a Villain she didn't take down. It seems the fame is going to her, Endeavor and yourself actually"
"Whaa!? Me!?" Izuku panicked, "WHY?"
"Whoa, calm down, you get credit because you were authorised for combat here, Iida wasn't and neither was Todoroki, luckily we can pass the burns off as Endeavor's doing as he was recorded on the scene"
"Shitshitshitshit" Izuku muttered
"It's fine kid, you were gonna get publicity at some point anyway"
Izuku froze, he knew the attention being one of the Heroes that brought down Stain would bring. He wasn't sure he was ready for that yet.
"Can I go in?" he asked
"Sure, if you're brave enough" Manual laughed
Not wanting to be on his own after that revelation he walked forwards and opened the door, walking in.
"You Mangy Mutt! What would you have us do? Die?" Todoroki exclaimed
"That's the official stance of the police department, but all me to extend my thanks to all three of you for taking that monster off the streets" Tsuragamae said bowing. It was at the mention of three, the others noticed Izuku standing behind the dog-man.
"Midoriya!" Tenya and Shoto said rushing over to their friend, "Are you okay?"
"I'm all healed up; the nurse gave me the all clear about fifteen minutes ago. How are you guys doing?"
"My arm does not have its full functionality, I sustained some nerve damage in the fight with Stain" Tenya informed. At Izuku's worried expression, he clarified, "It's fixable but for now I want to keep it, to remind me in future"
"As long as you're sure. I'm glad you're okay Iida" he curtly replied, "And you Todoroki? Are you fine?"
"I'm good, just glad I was able to help. At least my father won't have the satisfaction of actually taking down the Hero Killer, he only wanted to do so to try and win over the public for the rankings" Shoto said with a smile
"I'm glad to have had your help, we were done before you got there" Izuku thanked
"By the way Midoriya, what was that in the alleyway? I've never felt stronger" Todoroki asked
"Oh that, yeah..." he scratched the back of his head, "I figured out I can share my power for a short time, it only seems to work for one person right now though but it gives them my powers and boosts their quirk, so in your case your Ice and your Fire became more powerful. I'd assume it makes Iida faster" he finished
"So that's why my father was asking about you" Shoto commented
"Yeah, he sent me a card which I found strange, we aren't exactly on good terms"
"I guess he wants you to use that new power of yours on him, but how would he even know about it?"
"I shared it with Miruko when the attack started and she mentioned she'd been with him when she got there. I guess he saw it?"
"I'm sorry Midoriya, I didn't want you to be involved with him"
"It's not your fault Todoroki, it was bound to get out eventually, it's not like I have to use my quirk on him if that's even what he wants"
"I guess I'll take my leave, thank you all for putting Stain behind bars but next time you do Hero work, make sure you're licensed" Tsuragame said stepping out the door.
"I still wish he'd started with the thanks" Shoto commented.
"Again, I apologise for getting you both into that mess" Tenya said bowed at 90 degrees.
"Iida I'll put this behind us if you promise to never pull shit like that again, I nearly had to watch you die"
"Agreed, I understand you felt the need to get revenge for your brother but that was insane, we aren't fully trained and it took Midoriya's quirk awakening plus all three of us to take him down" Shoto added
"I've more than learned my lesson, I shan't do anything like that again" Tenya said flexing his injured arm.
They turned to the opening door as Manual walked in. He looked at Tenya, then down at the ground. "Us Heroes are going to have to take responsibility for being negligent and not keeping an eye on you two."
Walking over towards Manual, Iida bowed, "I apologise, I should've listened"
Manual chopped Iida on the head, "Yeah, you caused us a lot of trouble. Remember that and don't do it again."
Todoroki followed suit and apologised as well.
Tomura
"Last night the Hero Killer Stain was..." Kurogiri shut off the television playing a news report.
Sat at the bar, Tomura grumbled, "He's all they're talking about!" Tomura scrunched his newsaper up, "WHAT ABOUT MY NOMUS!"
"Not only have they not forgotten about Stain, but we haven't even made the front page" he growled
Uraraka
"Oh my god, that's terrifying! I'm glad you're okay. It really scared me when the only thing we heard from you was a text saying where you were."
"Yeah we're all okay, it was really scary. He was so strong, we got lucky" Midoriya replied on the phone
"How come it was only you, Miruko and Endeavor? Didn't Todoroki do his internship with Endeavor?" she asked
"Well Iida was there too" he started sheepishly
"WHAT!? I better be having hearing problems, did you say Iida was there too?"
"Yeah, he managed to get caught up in the mess too. Technically I shouldn't reveal this, but you're my best friend so it's okay as long as you promise not to say a word of it to anybody but me, Todoroki and Iida"
"I promise"
"Iida went looking for the Hero Killer, he wanted to avenge Ingenium. Stain caught him and was about to kill him before I managed to save him at the last second mind you, Stain's blade was so close. I was terrified"
"I bet you were, what happened next?"
"I smashed him but he seemed unfazed, I've never seen anyone take a smash that well, especially at the power I was using. Luckily for me, he deemed me a 'true hero' whatever that means but I got cut and his quirk let's him freeze you when he tastes your blood. Todoroki saved me and then I got free and we attacked him until he wore out."
"..."
"Ochaco? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just stunned, how come we all have nice internships, but you three manage to be involved in a Villain attack inside of a Villain attack. You sure your quirk is Super-Strength?" Ochaco teased
"What do you mean Ocacho?" he inquired
"You definitely have a secret calamity quirk, you're always involved with Villains" she laughed
"Nah I definitely don't have one of those, I think I'm just unlucky. Anyway, I'm glad you're okay but I've gotta go. I'll talk later"
Izuku
Once he'd been cleared to leave the hospital, he made his way back to Miruko's agency as instructed by the text she'd sent him.
'I wonder what I'm gonna be doing now?' he thought
'I hope you'll be resting, after that ordeal all of you deserve a break' came the reply
'What was that you mentioned to me right before I passed out? Something about All Might and some guy called him?'
Nana's face darkened, 'It's not my place to tell you, but what I will say is that he is the reason we pass the quirk on. Once Internships are officially over, you'll have to ask Toshi if you want to know more about it. I shouldn't have said anything but I was as shocked as you'
Izuku walked off the train and thought to himself in silence as he finished the walk back to the agency. He knew they'd done the right thing, but it felt empty, because his friends weren't able to share in the success of taking down the Villain even though Todoroki had been nearly 50% of the reason why they'd succeeded.
He walked into the agency to be greeted with Miruko sat on one of the sofas in the foyer.
"Hey kid, you holding up okay?" she probed
"I'm alright I think, they patched me up good and those claws shouldn't scar thankfully. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it though, I'm still pissed with Iida, he looked me straight in the eye and all but assured me he wasn't gonna pull that shit."
"Good, you should be" she replied
"What? Shouldn't you be telling me that he had a reason and all that?"
"No, why would I do that? He did have a reason, it was a fucking shit reason. Yeah it's awful his brother got attacked but would any family member let alone Hero want someone to go and take revenge on their behalf? Because I don't know any that would. I'd have kicked him back into that hospital bed myself had they not 'kindly asked me to leave'" she finished with air quotations
"Kindly asked you to leave huh? So basically, you caused a scene and they had to kick you out?" he said with a wink.
"Shut it, I just wanted to make sure my point had gotten across to your friend and I wasn't happy they were letting nobody into your room. Drove me mad not being able to see for myself that you're not dead or anything"
"So you do care! How cute!" he replied in a baby voice
Miruko's ear twitched and she leapt at him, leg ready to kick, hard.
"Wait wait wait! The doctor said I shouldn't be doing anything too strenuous and fighting you definitely is!" he said, basically sprinting his words out.
"It's not gonna be a fight" She shouted with a grin. "It's gonna be a massacre!".
Rumi pounced after him smashing every object in her way until she had Izuku cornered. He'd hunched in on himself and braced for impact. Rumi sprang
"AHH! Oh?" Izuku screamed then realised as she'd pulled him into a hug.
"Don't scare me like that again you little shit" She said into his t-shirt.
"Little? But you're smaller than me?" He queried
Rumi just responded by digging him in the stomach. "Shut up. We both know you need this as much as I do"
'She's right you know' Nana chimed in
'You can take her advice and shut up as well' he snarked back to Nana's laugh
"I just feel like such a shit mentor" she added, emphasising the curse, "I wasn't able to help you when you needed me and you ended up against a Villain no student should ever have to face. A couple wallet thieves sure. But someone like Stain. You kids shouldn't have had to fight him"
"But you did exactly what was needed of you" Izuku replied smiling at her and pulling her in tighter. "We needed the bad-ass bunny to be brutalising those Nomu"
She smirked and gave him a gentler dig. "I'm not a fuckin' bunny"
"My point still stands. We were both where we needed to be. I had to save my friend or I'd never forgive myself; and the civilians needed you there protecting them as you always do. Besides you saw how I fought at the sports festival. Did you really think a little scratch was enough to take me out?" He teased at the end.
"You fought like a maniac at the sports festival. It's why I need to help you learn to fight properly. Also, that power up you gave me. What made you think to do that? It's a weird idea to have" she questioned
"I just had a weird dream that's all?"
"A weird dream huh? So it had nothin' at all to do with this Shimura?"
"Is that jealousy I hear Rumi?" he winked
She blushed and tucked her head further into his T-shirt. "No" She murmered
'It might be time to let her know. Same with some of your other teachers. They can't help you if they don't know what you can fully do' Nana commented.
"Okay Nana, I'll tell her" he said aloud so Rumi could hear. Her face instantly whipped up with eyes wide.
"You're gonna let me know?" she asked stunned.
"Yeah, but we're sitting down for this as it's a long story" Izuku replied, starting to walk towards the lounge.
'Nana, should we actually go through with this?' he asked on the way
'I think you should, Toshi had his own network of secret keepers to help him with the burden. It's time you start to build yours' She advised with a smile
Izuku reached the couch and dropped onto it spreading out. Rumi followed suit and flopped on the opposite side much to Izuku's amusement.
"Hey! It's my quirk you prick" she growl laughed.
"I know I know, it's just cute and a little bit funny" he replied pinching his fingers together causing Rumi to blush at the compliment.
"Grr. Just get on with your story all ready" she demanded determined not to look weak.
"Okay Okay"
Izuku took in a deep breath and exhaled.
Steeling himself he started, "First things first, you have to promise me no matter what you never tell anyone what I'm about to tell you. It's literally National Secret level"
"Fuck seriously kid?"
He just levelled a gaze at her that brokered no other option.
"Okay fine, I promise on my honour as a Hero that I won't tell anyone" she pledged.
"Thank you. So, you've noticed how my quirk is similar to All Might's right?" he asked
"Yeah, everyone has. That pressure is so familiar"
"There's a reason for that… My quirk. I got it from All Might"
Rumi's eyes narrowed, "Run that past me again."
"My quirk came from All Might"
"As in he's your dad?" She inquired
"No, this quirk is transferable and has been around since the beginning of quirks being passed on to each user for the power to grow" he replied
"That sounds like complete bullshit." She bit back, "I thought you were gonna be serious"
"Rumi" Izuku growled, "I'm being deadly serious. Nana Shimura is the real name of the dead pro Hero, Maverick. You might have heard of her."
"Wait really? I used to have a poster of her, she was like one of the strongest female Heroes ever."
"Yeah, that would most likely be due to the quirk that I now hold, seeing as her original quirk was one that allowed her to float."
"This quirk then, if, it exists. What's its name? How are you all chosen?" Rumi asked
"My quirk is called One For All, it retains a portion of each wielder. Shimura shows me how to use the quirk to be a better Hero. She was the seventh wielder; All Might was the eighth and I'm the ninth." He announced, a gust of wind billowing through the room as the words were spoken into existence.
"I can't speak to anyone else, but All Might chose me because I ran out in front of a huge Villain made of sludge to save a friend. And I did it without a quirk while the pro Heroes on the scene stood by doing nothing." He added, his confidence building
"Wait, I remember seeing that on the news. Did you just forget to use your quirk or something you idiot?"
"No, I was born without a quirk. I'm biologically quirkless. Got the toe joint and all"
"So you've had this quirk what, fifteen months?"
"Something like that, I'm doing my best to master it as soon as I can. I need to be able to say 'I am here' when All Might can't anymore."
"Wow, that's one hell of a legacy kid, you think you're gonna be able to handle all of that?"
"I've got you to show me how" he winked at her.
