Chapter 2: Egg Collecting Part 2

"Here we are. The main set for our show. Welcome to the Striker Ranch." Monica announced.
"Excuse me, we're gonna be on a farm?" Reese asked.
"You've got to be kidding me." complained Kat.
She then pulled out her cell phone, and saw that there was no signal.
"And there's no signal."
Renni looked around, and smiled.
"A farm? With lots of cute farm animals? (Squeals)." she said.
"Wow, this is new." Riley observed.
Sunny looked around, and smiled at her new surroundings. Phil didn't look bothered by it. Daniel looked confused.
"This is a farm? You like in that old kids' song?" he asked.
Quinten looked surprised. Sydney looked unsure about her new surroundings.
"Well this is...different." she replied.
Angie looked visibly upset. Glenn looked happy.
"Wow, this is just like home." he thought.
Courtney smiled and jumped up and down.
"We're gonna be on a farm? Yay." she cheered.
Spikke just shrugged.
"Hmm, interesting." said Zuni.
"Come on, let's get this show started." Monica instructed.
They followed her, further onto the property.
"So you own a ranch?" asked Spikke her.
"Actually it's my cousin's ranch. So you all be careful around here." she warned.
"Got it." replied Sydney.
Then she led them to two buildings.
"This is where you'll be sleeping, ladies will be in the first building, gentlemen you're in the second." Monica instructed.
"You all go in and put your stuff away. And Charlotte will be in with some new clothes for you to wear." explained Hailey.
"New clothes?" asked Riley.
"Of course, you can't be on a farm in heels, dress shoes, and designer outfits." Charlotte told them.
And so they all went into their designated sleeping buildings.
With the girls, they saw that the building was split into two floors. One floor had four beds and the second floor had three beds. There was also two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.
"At least there's more than one bathroom." said Kat.
"We better decide who's sleeping where." Renni instructed.
She, Sunny, Zuni, and Kat choose to sleep upstairs, and Sydney, Angie, and Courtney choose to sleep downstairs. About a minute later, Charlotte came in pushing a cart with a large trunk on it.
"All right, ladies I've got your new clothes." she informed.
As the girls went through the trunk, Pepper started squeaking from Charlotte's bag.
"What's that?" wondered Kat.
"Oh, that's just Pepper." Charlotte told.
She took Pepper out of her bag, and showed him to the girls. Renni smiled happily at the chinchilla. Kat smiled happily, and said,
"Aww, he's so cute."
"Yes he is." agreed Sunny.
Angie looked him over.
"He is adorable."
"Awww." gushed Syndey.
"What a little cutie." Courtney complimented.
"You have chinchilla? That's amazing." Zuni told her.
"Thanks, Pepper's my little helper." Charlotte explained.
And with that, she put him on her shoulder. She then left, and went to give the guys their clothes.
In the guys' building, they had already picked out their beds. Reese, Daniel, Glenn, and Spikke would sleep upstairs, and Quinten, Phil, and Riley would sleep downstairs. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Everyone decent in there?" Charlotte called from the other side.
"Yeah, we're fine." Spikke called back.
And with that, Charlotte went inside with the trunk of boys' clothes.
"Here are your new clothes." she informed.
As Riley walked over to the trunk, he spotted Pepper on Charlotte's shoulder.
"Whoa, what's that Charlotte?" he asked.
"Oh, this is Pepper. He's my pet."
She took him off her shoulder, and showed him to the guys.
"Hey little guy." Riley greeted.
"You like skateboarding?"
"Cool rodent." complimented Phil.
Quinten looked at the chinchilla.
"He's nice." he told Charlotte.
"He's adorable." Spikke gushed.
"A pet chinchilla? That's pretty cool and rare." Glenn observed.
Daniel looked at Pepper with disgust.
"Why in the world do you have a rat as a pet?" he asked.
Charlotte scowled at him.
"He's not a rat. He's a chinchilla, and he's my friend." she defended.
Pepper squeaked aggressively. Daniel just ignored it, and Reese just looked at Pepper and shrugged. Charlotte then put Pepper back on her shoulder, and left them to get changed.
A few minutes later, the teens came out dressed in their new farm clothes. Resse wore blue denim overalls, a white button up shirt underneath, expensive leather boots and gloves. Renni was dressed in a red checkered shirt with black lambada underneath, black pants, and her regular shoes.
Sunny's new outfit was a black and red squared shirt, blue old jeans and black rubber boots. Daniel had on brown boots, jeans, and sky blue t-shirt. Sydney wore a loose brown long sleeve shirt, white shorts, and red cowgirl boots.
Glenn was dressed in the same shirt but wearing overalls with one button on and black boots. Spikke's new outfit was a plaid shirt, with jeans, and rubber rain boots. Zuni had on a simple hunter green button up top made from cotton with short sleeves, with a knee length blue jean skort, long midnight blue mud boots.
And she wore her hair pulled back in a ponytail. Courtney was dressed in women's work boots, women's work jeans, a women's black shirt, a women's red and black checkered open shirt, and a sun hat.
Courtney wore an outfit similar to her original one, but she swapped her white shirt for a black one. Quinten's new outfit was a pair of black overalls, big brown boots, a white cowboy hat, and a purple bandana he tied around his neck in place of his headphones.
Phil had on a black shirt and white overalls. Riley wore sturdy overalls and a plaid shirt, along with his trusty skate shoes. And Kat was dressed in a purple flannel and jeans, with black sneakers, and her bowler hat.
"Great to see you all ready. Now for the teams." Monica started.
Hailey handed her a clipboard, and Monica began reading it.
"When I call your name, step to the right. Reese, Sunny, Sydney, Spikke, Courtney, Quinten, and Phil."
Those contestants stepped to the right.
"You're now the Haystacks. And the rest of you, Renni, Daniel, Glenn, Zuni, Angie, Riley, and Kat you're now the Tractors."
"You'll also be able to record private confessions in the stables." Hailey told.
"Stables, huh?" asked Reese as he stood in front of the camera.
"Well it beats an outhouse."
"I can't wait to get started." squealed Renni.
"And now, for your first challenge. Follow me." Monica instructed. She led them to another another part of the ranch, and they were at two rather large chicken coops.
"You first challenge will be simple, collecting eggs."
Hailey and Charlotte then handed each contestant a basket.
"You'll have one hour to collect at least three dozen eggs all together. However if you break or crack any eggs they won't count." said Monica.
"Sounds easy." replied Kat.
"It may sound easy, but you'll have to look in different places and watch the chickens."
Everyone looked at each other.
"Hailey start the timer."
"Okay, on your marks...get set...GO!"
She started the timer, and the contestants hurried into the two coops. The Haystacks went into the one on the left, and the Tractors went into the one on the right. Before starting to collect the eggs, Reese turned on his camera phone.
"What are you doing?" asked Sunny.
"Getting ready to stream."
"But we're already on live TV."
"It's not for the show, it's for my Instagram."
"Being on this show is good for my imagine. And my followers will want to see what I'm doing." Reese explained.
Inside the coops were many chickens, and new smells.
"(Gags), it smells gross in here." complained Kat.
"Just try and find the eggs." Daniel told her.
Renni gently picked up a chicken, and found two eggs.
"Found some." she announced.
And she put them in her basket. With the Haystacks, they found a couple eggs in their coop.
"This is pretty simple." replied Sunny.
"How many do we have so far?" asked Quinten.
"I have one." announced Phil.
"And I found two." informed Reese.
"You know, I don't know why Monica said this would be hard." said Courtney.
Just as she said that, a loud clucking sound came from a section of the chicken coop.
They all looked and saw some rather aggressive looking chickens.
"Uh, this doesn't look good." said Phil.
With the Tractors, they were still looking for eggs.
"Jeez, chickens lay eggs so why aren't there any in the nests?" wondered Angie.
"Monica did say we had to look in different places." mentioned Riley.
They began looking around the coop. Glenn looked under a bucket, and to his surprise there was one there.
"I found one." he announced.
The others were surprised, and began looking at other places.
"You know, if we had one of those little rover like robots, I could program it to collect the eggs for us." Kat told her teammates.
"Well we don't have one of those." Daniel snapped, as he looked for more eggs.
Kat just scoffed, and reluctantly went back to egg collecting.
"It was just an idea. Not to mention a good idea." Kat confessed to the camera.
"You've got 10 minutes contestants." Monica announced through her megaphone.
"Come on, we better hurry." urged Zuni.
In the other coop, the Haystacks were trying to avoid the aggressive chickens.
"What is it with these chickens?" asked Reese, as tried to dodge a chicken.
"I guess they don't like us taking their babies." suggested Spikke.
"Just try not to drop any eggs." warned Sydney.
Phil was collecting some more eggs, he was rapping to himself.
"Came on this show to win some bucks, but instead we're being chased by clucks. To win this me may need some luck."
"Phil, can you please focus on getting the eggs?" Courtney requested.
"Relax girl, no need to fret. There's no way that we're losing this test." he rapped to her.
Courtney looked slightly weirded out.
"Okay, I know everyone has their quirks, but I wish Phil would rap less and collect eggs more." Courtney vented.
"Rapping helps time go by. I was rapping in my head when we first started, and look how much time went by. So obviously rapping out loud will make it go even faster." Phil explained.
"Five minutes left, everyone." Hailey informed.
"Come on, guys. We gotta hurry." told Daniel.
"We're going as fast as we can." Riley told him.
The Haystacks were just about finished, and Phil was heading towards the door. He continued to rap to himself, but he didn't see that a chicken was running up to him. It squawked loudly at him, startling him out of his zone. He shrieked, and fell back.
And to everyone's horror, he dropped his basket and the eggs fell to the floor and cracked.
"NO!" the rest of the Haystacks cried.
"Oops." said Phil.
Before anyone could say anything, a loud horn sounded off.
"Time's up, guys!" shouted Monica.
And with that, everyone left the chicken coops.
"All right, people time to count up your eggs." Monica told everyone.
"Haystacks give your baskets to Hailey, Tracts give your baskets to Charlotte."
The teams each gave their baskets to the co-hostess and assistant. Reese then nudged Phil.
"You better hope we have enough eggs." he threatened.
Hailey and Charlotte counted all the eggs, and when they finished they told Monica the amounts.
"All right, the eggs are all counted up. And the winners with 38 eggs are..."
Both teams waited anxiously.
"...the Tractors."
The Tractors cheered with happiness, while the Haystacks looked really disappointed.
"Haystacks, I'll see you at the elimination ceremony tonight. After dinner meet me near the silo."
The members of the Haystacks all looked Phil.
"This isn't good." Phil said worriedly.
That evening in the barn, the teams sat down at long tables and ate a Montana delicacy, tater tot hot dish.
"This is pretty good." said Riley.
"It's not filet mignon, but it's no bad." Daniel admitted.
"If you ask me, this is better than all that fancy food." Renni informed.
While the Tractors talked, and Haystacks ate rather quietly. The atmosphere around them was tense, considering they had lost the challenge.
"Phil is definitely out." Reese told the camera.
"I don't do losing, and it's definitely not good for my image."
After dinner, the Haystacks went to the silo, cast their votes on who should leave, and then sat on rocks to wait. Monica then came onto the scene with Hailey and Charlotte behind her. Hailey was carrying a wooden crate.
"All right, Haystacks time for the first elimination ceremony. You've all cast your votes, and now it's time. When I call your name come up and Hailey will give you a carrot." Monica explained.
Everyone then looked nervous.
"Reese."
He proudly got up, and Hailey handed him a carrot from a the crate.
"Sydney."
"Quinten."
"Courtney."
"Sunny."
One by one they got their carrots.
"And now the final carrot goes to..."
Phil and Spikke looked at each other nervously.
"...Spikke."
"Yes!" cheered Spikke, and he got up and got his carrot.
"Phil, it's time to go. Charlotte will escort you to your ride." said Monica.
"Okay." Phil replied, and he followed Charlotte.
"Sorry, you got voted out first, Phil." Charlotte told him.
Pepper squeaked as if he was agreeing with her.
"It's okay, besides I thought of another rap. I messed up bad, got scared by chicken cause it got mad..." Phil rapped.
"And there goes our first contestant. Who'll be next to go? Find out next time on Totally Epic: Life on the Farm." Monica announced to the audience.
