Several days later Spider-Man began to become a fairly famous and recognized hero in Charter City. Peter manage to keep a steady job and income going for himself as he kept an eye out for Ock, the rogues, and the group he learned that went by the Tech Men. He figured that the Tech Men would have the technology to return Peter and the rogues to their home universe, so he needed to be on the lookout for them. Despite all the crime fighting, hero work, and swinging around Peter had yet to encounter any of the Stretch Fighters. He was fairly curious about them and wondered if they were actual villains or heroes that had been framed as villains.
One night Spider-Man was out swinging and had just nabbed a group of robbers, when one of Rook's security shuttle flew onto the scene and the pilot got his attention and motioned for him to land on a roof to speak to him. Spider-Man complied and the shuttle landed. The pilot got out with a tablet that displayed a live video feed of Rook's face.
"Hello Spider-Man, I'm Jonathan Rook CEO of Rook Unlimited and I wish to discuss doing business with you." Said Rook.
"What kind of business?" Asked Spider-Man.
"I've been watching you Spider-Man and I must say I'm impressed with what you have done. You really have brought crimes levels down. I wish for you to partner up with my company and really do some serious good for the city. Things have been a bit chaotic since the Flex Fighters turned out to be terrorist and put the whole city in danger with their actions. The city needs a new hero and I believe that is you. With your skills and my resources we can put a end to the threat of the Flex Fighters. I'm willing to pay you whatever you want, money is not a problem." Said Rook.
Spider-Man let these words sink in and he pondered them for a bit. The most powerful man in Charter City was offering him a job to basically protect the city and takedown a group of criminals. Rook could also maybe help him track down the rogues and help capture them. He could also provide the tech to return Spider-Man and the rogues to their home universe or help track down the Tech Men to use their technology to do it. It all sounded like a sweet deal, but there were a few things that still bothered Spider-Man. Rook reminded Peter of Norman Osborn in a way. Sure Rook seemed like a nice friendly guy with good intentions, but there just wasn't something right about the situation or the way he referred to the Flex Fighters as villains. Spider-Man himself had been accused of being a villain a couple of times, but that had been proven false. He needed to meet the Flex Fighters themselves and get the full story himself before making any big decisions. It was the responsible thing to do.
"Is it alright that I have a day or two think about it." Said Spider-Man.
"But of course. You take your time and try to get back to us." Said Rook.
"Thanks." Said Spider-Man before swinging off.
The video feed ended on the tablet. Rook sat in his private office scowling to himself. He wasn't used to people not taking the deals he offered and he didn't like people that he didn't have control over. There was a chance Spider-Man could meet the Flex Fighters and get their side of the story making him an enemy to Rook. Rook supposed he could turn the public against Spider-Man like he did with the Flex Fighters, though that might be tricky. Either way if Spider-Man proved to be a problem then Rook, would destroy him along with all his other enemies.
To be continued.
