Chapter 13: Fallen Tower
Len's P.O.V.
7:15 a.m.
"Maybe compare and contrast his behaviors before and after the court case? The point in therapy isn't for me to just listen to you, it's to help you find whatever answer that you need. So never be afraid to call like this again whenever you have a question."
I couldn't help but remember what Akia had told me last night when I called her.
I care about Kaito so much, ... but ... before this we were like best friends and did things almost alike. But after the therapy meeting I was trying to go find him, but I found him in one of the studio rooms with the door cracked open talking to Dell.
It didn't sound like him...
The way he spoke ... it was like a different person.
He sounded cold.
My hand froze from writing any further in my notebook as I sat inside on the guest' room. I knew no one would find me here since no one uses it.
I looked over the list of "changes" I've noticed, a-and there's a lot now that I look at it.
"1.) Kaito and Dell really are close like they're best friends.
2.) Him and Tanaka stops talking when I walk by.
3.) I don't remember Kaito and Haku being close.
4.) I never see him unless it's in Tanakas room.
5.)His personality is different when he talks to Dell."
"N-No..." I whispered to no one as I felt my heart jump to my throat. My pen dropped from between my fingers as they made haste grabbing my left arm, digging my nails across my skin lightly.
"I-I believe Kaito, I-I believe him" I heaved. "I want to only believe him"
"Maybe I should watch the tape again?"
Haku's P.O.V.
"I'm surprised you came out here, Tanaka." I eyed the brunette sitting across from me.
He brought out a cigarette from his coat pocket and quickly shoved it between his lips before sparking it. I figured a mixed bar and smoke lounge would've been suited for the both of our taste in this matter.
The man took a small drag before saying, "I assume this is about Kaito, otherwise we'd have this talk inside my office instead." He gazed at me through the lens of his glasses.
I gave a slight nod as I scooted my drink off to the side.
"And I assume you can agree that this situation is bad no matter what happens." I then told the brunette.
He peered at me in silence for a while before nodding his head in agreement as well. "Haku" He then started. "He made his decision and he's hellbent on it. So much to the point I'm bracing for whatever scheme he has planned, because we both know he doesn't tell us 100% of anything. ... What's sad is that there's no way of protecting Len."
I couldn't help but lower my eyes a bit as soon as he mentioned the boy.
"I'm aware of this, which is why I'm warning you that I found out Kaito got someone who's close to him to scout everyone. I'm not going to tell you who it is for the sake of them picking up that you're cautious around them, but if they find out something that Kaito doesn't like, shit will hit the fan a little early. This is even a threat to myself in a way." I lowly told him, causing him to raise his brow and take the cigarette out of his mouth.
"Basically a guard dog" He then chuckled beneath his breath. "Look, I'm not sure when he's going to find out what I've done, but I know it'll be soon. I just pray that Len gets some sense before Kaito finds out".
What he has done? I doubt Tanaka can do much, but anything involving Len is playing with fire.'
Brining my glass over, I rose it up to my lips to take a small sip before asking what he did.
Tanaka remained silent.
"Tanaka!" I then rose my voice for him to spit it out.
"I put Len into therapy" He coldly eyed me. "Yes, I've created each and every single one of them, but it's not like I can tweak their wiring. This was pure genetic-medical rare science that became banned. So what wiring can I fix? They were made different compared to you, Haku. They don't have wiring mixed with them. So when I have a problem, I have to treat it as a people problem."
I've heard rumors of how Tanaka might have created Kaito and them, but it was never revealed as to how. All I know is that it was banned immediately when the government found out, but they made a deal to not put him in jail if he markets them and gives a 50% cut to the government.
Even Kaito is silent as a mouse about it. All that is known is that they're not human. '
"But despite one session being made for now, I think the lady got to him in a way. It wasn't much but it sure as hell got that boy thinking." He then mentioned.
I couldn't help but stare at him wide eyed as he briefly explained the situation.
"... You're playing with some dangerous fire, Tanaka. Even so, if Len snaps to reality, Kaito could either be sent to prison immediately or Kaito is getting to the bottom of everything, and, you know, kill you." I blatantly told the brunette.
He nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders. "Those odds are still more doable than doing nothing. ... I can only put my faith into that boy to stop things. It's not like anyone else can. He's his weakness"
"Just how he's his strength. His reason. His everything. ...I guess I can see what you're saying." I quickly began to understand the more I listened. "Just don't fuck up. There's no room for mistakes." I then warned the brunette.
He closed his eyes for a second to take a deep breath, but before I knew it his eyes shot wide open.
I rose a brow at him, "What's wrong?"
Kaito's P.OV.
"Therapy?" I muttered in response as I held my phone up to my ear, sitting out on the balcony. "That information is vital and yet he didn't tell me anything about it."
"And Len didn't speak to you today? Sounds like someone is interfering, Kaito. What would you like for me to do?" Gumi nonchalantly responded.
Len hasn't came to my room...
And I'm sure it was because of this...
Slowly but surely I began to grit my teeth and it took all of me to take a deep breath.
"... Get information on who this therapist is. That's all I want for now." And with that, I quickly hung up.
I honestly hadn't felt a feeling such as this since the day the police came and took me away.
I was mortified. Not because of my actions or me being caught, but the possibility of Len hating me... My fear of them trying to get him to hate me. That's what they want to do...
"I know what to do now..."
