The Kings Subjects

Before she knew it the flight was over, Luz wanted to say the whole thing had been incredible but there were moments during that flight she thought she was going to die, for sure. Eda slowly brought them down, her feet grazing the ground before Owlbert zoomed out from under them causing Luz to land... less gracefully than intended. Luz was clutching her red beanie, teeth gritted, and her eyes were struggling to go back to normal from their current wide view. Eda turned to her and chuckled, giving her a small slap on the arm, "You did good! You didn't even vomit, that's a decent first ride in my books" She states, giving a small reassuring smile down at Luz. Luz struggled to return, after a moment she was able to compose herself again, hat back on her head and she was ready to follow Eda who was already walking away.

"Oh wow" Luz mumbled as she finally took in the sight before her, a large house sat in front of her, the roof had an unnatural curve to it, going high up to arch over a large eye like window at the top of the house. She marveled at the beauty of the place, it was simple but exotic looking, there was even a tower poking up out of the back of the house! Part of it looked worn down from years of abuse from the isles weather, yet it stood strong, giving the whole house a more protected look. As Eda got closer to her home, Luz was brought out of her thoughts by a loud scream and hoot? She thought as she tried to locate the source of the sound. All of a sudden Eda was pushing something away, was she in trouble? Luz thought quickly, almost panicked before she heard Eda's laugh. "Get off of me Hooty! I wasn't even gone a whole day..." She said as she pushed, a tube, no, an owl? Away from her face.

It clicked; Luz's eyes followed the owl bird tube body all the way to the front door of the house. Oh... That is... not what I was expecting, she thought to herself with a slight cringe as she continued to follow Eda up to her home. Eda looked back at Luz as she got to the door, a slightly exasperated and apologetic look on her face as she turned again to the door, "Hooty, this is Luz, the human, Luz, this is Hooty. The Owl House!" She proclaimed with pride and stepped aside for Hooty and Luz to meet, Luz was visibly a bit uncomfortable as Hooty shot from the door to wrap around his new friend. "Oh, uh hey big guy. It's a, nice to meet you?" Luz squeaked out as the tube bird wrapped her up. "A new friend! Hoot! You'll listen to my stories won't you Luz? I can tell you about my first words! Or about the time I found a snaggleback living in one of my closets!?" Hooty yelled at her as he rubbed his face on hers. Luz laughed and looked at Eda was pleading eyes, to which the older witch rolled hers and gave Hooty a tap on the head with her staff. "Come on Hooty, she just got her, give her some space will you. No one wants to hear that crap... Lets go Luz" Eda stated firmly while pulling Luz from Hootys grip, "Well It was nice to meet ya Luz, I can't wait to be fr-" before Hooty could finish the last words Eda closed the door on him, not that he noticed, as he kept talking away outside of the door.

With a small sigh Eda opened her arms wide, giving a toothy smile as she gestured to her home, "This dear Luz, is The Owl House!" She proclaimed, using a small wave of her hand and swirl of her finger candles flickered on in all directions, illuminating the home in a warm light. There were posters all over the place, books in stacks, on shelves, huge magical looking artifacts hanging on the wall, along with some skulls, swords and is that Eda? Luz thought as she stood in awe of The Owl Ladys home, her eyes landing on the 'Wanted' poster that looked like her with a small, dog, of some kind. "I see you've spotted one of my prized possessions, I am Eda, The Owl Lady! The most powerful wild witch in all of the Boiling Isles!" She proclaimed as she stood in a similar position as the poster. "Wild Witch? Wait, WANTED?" Luz's eyes widened, just what she had gotten herself into. "Ah don't worry kid, I won't bite, I just won't join a coven like they want me to" She shrugged, walking over to the low red plush couch. Sitting down with a huff, her red dress hanging off her legs as she props them up onto the coffee table.

Luz had a lot of questions swirling around in her head, she could barely form a sentence, she felt like she just got the most minimalistic backstory ever from The Owl Lady. "I have SO many questions..." She managed to mumble as she went to sit across from Eda on the floor. "Didn't you say you had someone to come home to?" Luz suddenly realized, to which Eda gave a silent nod, "I didn't know humans were deaf" the older witch jokes, tilting her head to the side, "He's in the shower, now, I don't mind if you stay for a bit but I have a roommate that we need to have you approved with too" She stated, Luz frowned and her brows knit together, "I had no idea I needed to get someone else's approval, what if they hate me!" She protested and jumped at the sound of a door slamming in the distance. "Ah here he comes, KING! I have someone I want you to meet!" Eda yells out, smiling at Luz's reaction to the whole situation.

Luz waited patiently in the living room of The Owl House, eyes on the hallway that had sound coming from it, she gulped as a huge shadow appeared on the wall. "Uhh... I, maybe this wasn't a good idea" she stammered, eyes wide open as she waited for the hulking mass known as King to enter the room. After what felt like the longer few seconds ever, the shadow disapeard and entered King! "You couldn't even wait until I was dry Eda!" King wailed, it took Luz a moment to come down from her previous nerves. King was about 2 feet tall, covered in black fur, a skull with large yellow eyes and a broken horn on one side stood in front of her. Covered in a yellow towel, holding what looked to be a yellow rubber duck, like Luz had when she was a child.

Luz shot to her feet, eyes wide as she struggled to comprehend the adorable creature in front of her. "Uhh... Eda, what's wrong with your friend?" King inquired, looking between the two of the women. Before either could say anything more, Luz launched for King, picking him up and causing him to lose his towel and rubber duck! "Dios mío, ¿quién es esta monada?" Luz yelled as she cradled King in her arms, the two longer tuffs of hair on either side of her head tickling King as well as scratched his little tummy. "Ah! Blasphemy! Eda! Who is this monster!" He wailed and kicked around in Luz' arms. Luz finally seemed to snap back to reality, as Eda got up laughing hysterically at the interaction. "Okay, okay" Eda said walking over to the two, "Oh! Sorry, you're just... So cute!" Luz chuckled and set King down, who crossed his arms looking indignant, eyes on Eda. Luz smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her head, "I'm Luz, Luz Noceda! The human as Eda has put it to Hooty" King seemed to perk up at this and looked back over to Eda, who was nodding, a small sneaky smile on her lips.

"Luz did you say! I am King, ruler of demons, bringer of fear!" King yelled, turning to Luz, "Why have you come and disturbed me!" Luz was quiet for a moment, was this little guy really king of demons? She shook the thought away quickly and knelt on one knee, "Mighty King! I have come to ask to stay, I wish to learn the ways of Magic" She stated, head down, waiting for Kings next words. Hoping that years of reading Azura and other fantasy novels will help her here. King laughed and clapped his paws, "I see! Well to become a subject of King, you must prove you can be trusted and are worthy of learning the ways of magic!" King stated, walking over to Luz and touching her arm that had its fist resting against the floor. "Are you willing to prove you are trustworthy?" King asked directly, eyes wide, waiting for Luz's answer. Luz's eye darted between King and Eda, who seemed to be very relaxed about the whole situation, her arms crossed and a small smile on her face. "I am King! I shall prove I am a worthy subject; you can trust and teach!" Luz declared, bowing her head again to King.

King clapped and made a small giddy sound as he turned to Eda, "Shall we prepare to retrieve my crown?" King asked, looking up at Eda with pleading eyes, who was she to say no? "It's pretty late today King, but if Luz agrees to give us a hand we can set out tomorrow for it, hows that?" She asks kindly, looking down at the two. Luz, I hope you know what you've gotten yourself into. Eda thinks with a small smile, turning to walk over to what looked like a regular room dividing screen. Except when she came out the other side she was in a large wooly sweater, Pj pants and bunny slippers. Luz sat back on her butt and marveled at the random transformation. "To bed then! For we adventure tomorrow, I expect the best from you human!" King declares as he runs over to sit on the couch with Eda, curling up on the end like a cat.

**** Luz POV.

I couldn't believe what was happening, this whole day just seemed like too much, when I tripped back home did I crack my head open or something? First the weird Owl stealing my book, then a huge ridiculous world filled with everything I thought wasn't possible. An Owl Lady, with 'treasures' from my world? A pixie who wanted to eat my skin? I shook my head and looked around the living room again, taking in what details the remaining lit candles had to offer. Eda had given me a pillow and blanket to use tonight on the couch, I'm not sure how I was supposed to sleep though, it felt like everything I've ever dreamt of was happening here. I don't want to go to sleep... I don't want to wake up in a world where I don't matter or belong. I thought bitterly while adjusting myself on the couch. I put my beanie on the coffee table and laid back against the pillow, I need to prove myself to them tomorrow, I'm worth it and I belong here. Everything I've seen since stumbling through that door has been amazing, scary, but amazing. Interacting with all those... people? The demons, witches, other worldly beings, I could have never done that back home. I let my thoughts carry on, taking the world in, if this was a dream, I wanted to remember every last detail.

**** 3Rd POV

A light shone through the windows of the old Owl House, small streams of light falling perfectly across the human's face. It was warm and a welcome wake up after a rough night's sleep, Luz had fought hard to keep herself awake, scared of the dream coming to an end. She very slowly blinked her eyes open, squinting hard at the bright light coming through the drapery, "Ugh... five more minutes" She mumbled as she turned on her side, her surroundings not yet sinking in. As she got comfortable, her eyes snapped open to see two large brown eyes staring at her. "Hiya Luz!" Hooty yelled, earning a punch to the face and a small yelp. Hooty slunk back through the window, "NOT A MORNING PERSON I SEE, THAT HURT, HOOT" he called as he went back to his door. Luz sat up, a hand outstretched toward Hooty "Ah, Hooty I'm sorry! You scared me!" She called without an answer back.

Finally, her eyes adjusted, and she could see where she was, I'm still here she thought, It wasn't a dream! She yelled in her head as she pushed the blankets off and grabbed her beanie. Fixing her slightly distraught hair and clothing, she looked around, still in shock she made her way down the hallway hoping Eda wouldn't mind if she had a little bit of a tour. She rounds the corner and ends up in a bright kitchen, huge windows with a large island in the middle, she walked over the cauldron that was hanging by a snuffed-out fire. She touched the rim gently, rubbing the soot together on her fingers as she turned her gaze to the rest of the kitchen. There were weird plants hanging from the ceiling drying, she had never seen before, one looked almost like large garlic, others were covered in thorns and slime. I should see if there is something I can make them for breakfast... She thought as she went to the fridge, quickly closing it with a bit of a gagging sound. "Okay... So, witches obviously eat VERY different than humans." Luz muttered out loud, scratching the back of her head and holding her neck. Jumping as a tired Eda walked into the kitchen, eyes basically closed, she was on autopilot by the looks of it.

Seemingly unaware of Luz's presents, Eda paces through the kitchen, her usual routine. Start the fire with a small spell circle, hang the cauldron on top, go to the fridge and grab a pint of red liquid. Shuffle over to her cupboard where she grabs a mug and pours the slightly thick looking liquid into her mug. She does her track in reverse, grabbing a jumbo egg from the fridge as she puts the pint away, and walks to the island. She did all this without ever looking at Luz, who was a statue in the corner, too nervous to announce herself. As Eda set the egg down, she finally took a sip from her mug which read 'Thirty and Flirty' in stylistic writing. She sighed and put the mug down, giving her bones a stretch, which earned a few loud cracks. Now with nothing in her hand, Luz figured this was the best time to announce herself but as she opened her mouth, she was met with Edas hand rising up in her direction. "Now that I've got some Apple Blood in me, how was your sleep? You hungry? I have griffin eggs, smilk, scoffee if you're into that" She turned to meet Luz's wide eyes, and downturn mouth.

"OH uhh... I'm not that hungry?" Luz lied, while approaching the witch who scoffed as the kids stomach let out a loud growl. "Let me make you something, I know you humans are sensitive." She said and approached the cauldron with the griffin egg, pulling down some of the dried herbs as she did so. Luz gulped, not excited about the potential pain this may cause later, but she did have to admit she was starving. After a while the food was ready and Luz was surpised by the taste, it was like eating an omelet back home, maybe it was the fact she was starving, or Eda was just a good cook, but she happily ate the food provided. Even drinking whatever scoffee was, she already figured it was better if she didn't ask. Eda sat across from her and chuckled as she nursed her mug of Apple Blood. "Glad you like it" she said and turned her attention to the door. Where Kind very slowly came pattering in, jumping up on the closest chair and scuttling onto the countertop.

"Eda, can I have some Hex Mix?" King inquired as he jumped into what looked to be a very crude highchair, giving him the ability to sit at table height. Eda rolled her eyes and looked at King, "Not the best breakfast but I guess we do have a busy fay ahead of us" Eda said as she got up and grabbed a small bag of 'Hex Mix' from a cupboard for King. As Eda sat back down, she leaned her elbows on the table. "Alright, now that breakfast done, we need to make some plans, you ready kid?" With a nod they began to plan.
