Mcgonagall walks up the spiral staircase to Dumbledore's office. She has been shopping with Harry for the Hogwarts essentials and now she must talk to Dumbledore about where Harry should live.
She has now arrived at the top of the stairs. She knocks at the door before opening it. Inside Dumbledore was sitting by his desk. He was writing on a piece of parchment. Probably a letter to the ministry, like always. Cornelius fudge is always asking him for advice and Dumbledore gives it to him, it's almost like Dumbledore himself is the minister although no one but me knows about it.
"Minerva! I'm pleased to see you. Do you have something in your mind?" Dumbledore says, snapping her back to reality.
"Oh, yes! It's about Harry actually."
"What is it about him? I thought everything went as planned–"
"Yeah, yeah it went well. I bought him all of the Necessities, but–"
"Where should he live?" Dumbledore interrupts. "Yes, I've been thinking about that as well."
"And have you come to a conclusion?" McGonagall asks.
"No, I was actually hoping you had an idea…"
"He can't live in any of the dorms since he's not been sorted yet. We don't have any extra dorms, have we? Minerva says, thinking.
"Not that I know of. I think it is best to bring him back to his aunt and uncle."
"No, we can't do that," she protested. "they are horrible to him. What about Hagrid? Can't he live with him until school starts?"
"I already checked with him, he doesn't have any space for Harry. We will have to send him back." Dumbledore says firmly.
"But can't you just make a bed in the great hall so he can sleep there? There's only one month left until the school year begins." She argued.
"A month is a long time. Why don't you want to send him back Minerva?"
"Have you even seen the boy? He's been starved and probably abused too, that's enough reason."
"Okay, Minerva. Could you please bring Harry so that I can meet him before we decide anything?"
"Whatever you say, Albus."
Minerva exits the room and Dumbledore continues writing his letter. Fudge always wants to write about Harry in the newspaper and as always Dumbledore answers that the boy doesn't need that distraction. After about five minutes Minerva comes back with Harry.
"Albus."
"Minerva." She greeted him before walking out of the room.
"Harry, welcome to Hogwarts! How do you like it so far?"
"Will I be here the rest of my life?" Harry asks hesitantly.
"No. of course not. You will go back to your aunt and uncle in the breaks."
"Do I have to? Why can't I just stay here?"
"You don't like it there?"
"No." He admitted.
"Okay, but you will have to go back there on the summer break though. Would you like to stay here until school starts?" Dumbledore asked him, understanding that Mcgonnagal had been right.
"Yes, please. If it won't be too much trouble."
"Great. Follow me Harry, let's go down and eat. You can stay here until school starts next month. Tomorrow I will have Minerva showing you around the castle."
"I don't think I understand.
"Minerva will give you more information tomorrow."
"Okay." Harry sighed.
They walked down the spiral staircase and into a hallway full of big windows which had another staircase at the end of it. When they walked down the second staircase it suddenly started to move. Harry jumped a little and grabbed the stair railing. The stairs kept moving and to his surprise Dumbledore didn't seem bothered. He just stood there combing his beard with one of his hands.
"Sir?" Harry said with a tone of surprise, but Dumbledore didn't react. "Sir!" he repeated, this time almost a shout.
Dumbledore winced before looking down at Harry.
"Yes, Harry?" Dumbledore says as they both keep walking.
"Excuse me, sir. You didn't hear me the first time." Harry says, a little embarrassed.
"It's okay, Harry. What was it that you wanted to say to me?" Dumbledore asks.
"The stairs." Harry says and turns around to look at them.
"What about them?"
"They are moving." Harry stated.
"Oh, of course, silly me. Sometimes I forget you were raised by muggles. I'm sorry, Harry." Dumbledore apologized. "They are made to move so that a big group of students can walk around to their lessons without having to stop. And if you look closely over there," he says, pointing towards the million paintings on the walls. "you'll see that the people in the paintings are moving as well."
"Woah, but how is it possible?" Harry says, confused.
"Magic, Harry. Soon you'll learn.." Dumbledore says.
The rest of the walk Harry is thinking about magic and stairs while Dumbledore too was in deep thought. About five minutes later they reach a big door. Dumbledore sways his hand before it and the big door opens. Inside there were four very long tables, starting by the door and going all the way to the other side of the rectangular room. At the end of the room there was a fifth table standing in the opposite way. In front of the table stood a golden stake with a bird at the top.
All tables except the farthest one are empty. Sitting at the table are two men and three women, Mcgonnagal or "Minerva" as Dumbledore calls her, being the only familiar face. One of the other two is dressed in strange robes and her hair is all fluffy and standing upright. The other one also has curly hair but she has much shorter hair. She is wearing a dark kind of green robe and has a little dirt on her face.
The men on the other hand are cleaner. One of the men is large, like two people stuck in one body. He wears brown clothes made of some sort of animal skin. With his large brown hair and beard he ought to be intimidating, but he looks kind. Harry thinks that he must be the gamekeeper and keeper of keys that Mcgonnagall told him about.
The other man has long, greasy, black hair that reaches down to his shoulders and he's wearing a long black robe. His head is resting in his hand as he stares at Harry like he wanted him dead, he was definitely intimidating.
Suddenly Harry gets a sudden pain in his forehead, he can barely stand up straight and falls down to the floor with his hand clutching his forehead right where his scar is. Dumbledore bends down and asks if he's okay. And suddenly the pain is gone as fast as it came. Harry stumbles while trying to get up and says; "yes, i'm fine." He looks up at the table again and the intimidating man is gone.
Dumbledore stands up again, heading down to the table where everyone is sitting. Harry follows him. Dumbledore sits down in the middle seat and motions for him to sit in a chair beside him and Mcgonagall. Then all of a sudden all kinds of food appear at the table and everyone begins eating. The curly-haired ladies glance at him before continuing their conversation while Dumbledore talks to the gamekeeper whose name is Hagrid.
Mcgonagall leans in towards Harry and asks him what Dumbledore decided.
"He told me I was staying here until school started and that you would show me around tomorrow." Harry whispers back to Mcgonagall who smiles and returns to her food.
"I have another question." Harry says to her.
Mcgonagall looks down at him and nods.
"What are everyone's names?" He asks. '
Mcgonagall takes a sip of her pumpkin juice before answering; "The woman furthest away is named Mrs Trelawney." She says pointing towards the woman with strange robes and curly hair. "The woman beside her is named Madam Hooch, she teaches the first years to fly." She tells him, pointing at the one with short curly hair. "Then there is Dumbledore, Hagrid and me obviously."
"Who was the third man who left before?" Harry asks.
"That was Professor Snape. He's the poison's master."
After the dinner Mcgonagall shows Harry an empty room where he can sleep. She says that it's the room for the new teacher of the dark arts. But he wouldn't arrive until the beginning of the school year. All of Harry's stuff is there, so he brushes his teeth and then goes to sleep.
