Beetlejuice slowly opened the door to the large white house. If he woke Chuck and Delia, they'd think about kicking him out. Heck, he'd have been kicked out months ago if it wasn't for Lydia. Beetlejuice made his way up to the far side of the house which was his and Lydia's. The furniture was striped black and white, and the candles were almost melted out. Beetlejuice went to each flickering flame and blew it out. After the room was in darkness, Beetlejuice walked over to where his wife, Lydia was sleeping. The door creaked as he opened it. There she was. She was in bedclothes, blankets surrounded her like a nest. She slept on her side hands on her little pregnant bump. Beetlejuice sighed looking at her peaceful form. He sat down on the bed and brushed her hair away from her face.
"Beetlejuice?" she said in a groggy voice.
"Hey babe." He leaned down and gave her a soft kiss, which she returned. "I missed you. Beetlejuice lifted the covers and got in bed with his wife. Once in, Lydia snuggled up to him.
"Your hair's purple," Lydia pointed out looking up at his hair, "What's wrong?" Beetlejuice bit his lip and pulled her closer.
"I'll tell you in the morning, okay?" It would be easier for her to sleep if she didn't know. "It's bad for the baby if you don't sleep. "Beetlejuice rubbed the lump in Lydia's nightgown.
Lydia closed her eyes, sighing contently. Soon her breathing became drawn out and even her curvy chest rising and falling with each. Beetlejuice looked down at his sleeping wife.
"How am I supposed to tell you?" He thought running his fingers through her short coal black hair. This baby ment everything to them.
Lydia woke to the loud whistling of a teapot, to find herself alone in bed. She groaned and rolled over. She rubbed her eyes and dragged herself out of bed to get dressed. Beetlejuice had gone to every clothing store in the Winter River mall to find her gothic maternity clothes. Luckily, he had found some. Lydia pulled off her loose T-shirt and pulled on a simple black dress with short sleeves. She tied a white ribbon (as best she could with her pregnancy) around her waist so she could match her husband. Lydia went downstairs and looked around.
"Hi pumpkin!" Charles said brightly, flipping through the pages of a newspaper. He was sitting on the large armchair of the living room in the part of the house (the also newly wedded) Delia and Charles owned. But it was clear who decorated the place. The neon yellow walls, violet armchairs, and vibrantly dotted rug gave it away. Delia had grudgingly agreed to split the house into thirds after the marriage of Beetlejuice and Lydia.
"Hi dad," She said looking around, "Have you seen Beej?"
"I don't believe so." Charles also started looking around.
Lydia sighed and went over into the kitchen to get breakfast. She opened the fridge and pulled out a half empty, chocolate protein shake that Beetlejuice had started drinking, but hated. She tipped it back and finished it. She wiped her mouth of all the chocolate and threw away the bottle.
"Honey," said Charles standing up, "maybe we should start thinking about making a baby room, it's coming in three months."
"I just don't have time. With the photo shop and school, I'm busy."
"Why don't you let Delia do it?"
Lydia shivered at the thought of Delia designing yet another part of the big white house. She shook her head,
"No thanks. I'm sure I'll find time. And, if not Beej can do it." As if on que, Beetlejuice came sulking into the kitchen. "Good morning, Beej." Lydia said, handing him his box of beetles. Lydia got up on her tiptoes and kissed him.
"Morning." He grumbled crunching the bugs between his teeth.
"You, okay?" She rubbed his back and sat down at the table with him. "How was your meeting with Juno last night?"
Beetlejuice didn't answer but crammed a fistful of beetles into his mouth. Lydia put her head on his shoulder and whispered, "You can tell me." She didn't want him keeping it in.
"Maybe you can go shopping for the baby's room." Charles suggested. He walked into the room.
Lydia looked over at Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice looked at Lydia.
"Okay," Beetlejuice muttered.
Lydia grinned, she stood up and went to get her jacket from the hanger by the door.
Before Beetlejuice could follow, Charles put his hand on his shoulder.
"B, it's not her fault. Whatever is bugging you, don't shut her out." He let go of Beetlejuice and walked up the stairs to go back to bed. Beetlejuice looked up at his father-in-law's disappearing form, then back at his wife waiting at the door. Her pregnant bump was growing by the day. Beetlejuice walked over to the door and hugged Lydia. Lydia was surprised but hugged back. Her warm form pressed into his and they both felt comforted. Beetle hooked his arm under her thighs and scooped her up. She giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck and allowed him to carry her to the car.
"You wanna do something tonight babe?" Beetlejuice plopped her into the passenger seat and climbed into the driver seat.
"The doctor said we couldn't until the baby is born." She patted her bump affectionately. "We want it to be an easy birthing."
"But I hate being hard!"
Lydia blushed and knocked him with her elbow. "Don't say that!"
"Why?" He said in a whiny tone. "You look so cute blushing!"
Being told that she was blushing made Lydia go even more red-faced.
"Course, you always look absolutely gorgeous."
The ride continued like that until the subject of the baby reappeared.
"You know, your gonna make a great father." Lydia said, by this time her head was lying on his lap.
"Babes, I got to tell you something…"
Lydia sat up. "What?"
"J-Juno…" He started voice shaking. Even his hair was getting purple. "She said…" Lydia was getting even more concerned. "A ghost and a human… can't… keep their baby…"
