Part 1 – No Italian

Venice, 1973…

The sight of Italian President Giovanni Leone and Venice Mayor Giorgio Longo's latest meeting on the country's recent terrorist bombings and the country's growing economic problems.

A crowd was already gathering to greet him, but there were three that had no intention of attending the speech to hear him talking.

The three of them blended into the crowd seamlessly, save for one of them was carrying some kind of wooden briefcase.

As they met up, they walked over to a secluded area of the villa they had chosen to enter.

"Hello brothers," the leader said as they hugged.

"You kept us waiting too long, Vito," the one carrying the briefcase said.

"I am sorry, Luca," Vito said, "I had to make sure I wasn't followed. We're fighting for the future of our country, and we cannot afford any kind of interference."

"Interference won't be a problem," the third said, "There are three inside, and we can take care of them."

"Indeed, Angelo," Vito said, "Let's begin, and remember my brothers, No Italian."

Luca opened the villa's door and walked up to the guards inside.

"Mi scusi," the guard on the left said, "Voi tre non potete stare qui."

"Vogliamo solo avere una visione migliore," Luca said as they approached the guards.

"Quest'area è off-limits," the guard on the right said before pointing at the door they came through, "Devi girarti."

After he said that, Angelo reached into his coat, retrieving a suppressed Beretta M1934.

He then placed the end of the suppressor against the guard's chest and pulled the trigger.

As his partner saw him fall, he tried to grab his M1951, only for Vito to retrieve an Italian 1891/38 folding bayonet, and stab him in the stomach before going straight for the ribcage.

As he fell, Vito removed the knife, and wiped the blood clean on the guard's shirt, "Sorry brothers, but know your sacrifice is for the good of Italy," he said.

The three of them climbed the stairs of the tower, which was four-sided and had two ports on each side.

"Perfect," Angelo said as Luca placed the briefcase on the ground, and opened it to reveal an Arisaka Type 2 Paratrooper.

As he was assembling the rifle, Angelo took out the scope and focused on the stage where the President would be making his entrance via boat before going into the Ca' Loredan to conduct their business.

"The crowd is a perfect size," Angelo said as Vito prepared the rifle's stripper clip.

"I know," Luca said Vito handed him the clip, which he loaded into the rifle.

After attaching the scope and the suppressor, Luca balanced the rifle on the edge of the window as the President's boat came up the canal.

As he took aim, the three of them had no idea what was coming up the stairs.

Five minutes ago

Sitting across the canal from the villa was a twenty-something-year-old male about six feet tall with thick brown hair and green eyes. He was wearing a pair of black leather boots, black suit pants, and a short-sleeve white button-up shirt.

After seeing Vito, Luca, and Angelo entering the villa, he stood up and walked across the bridge to the same entrance they used.

As he slowly opened the door, he heard them talking, before hearing the unmistakable sound of a suppressed gunshot, followed by grunting, and the sound of a body hitting the side of a wall.

After entering, he reached into the hidden holster in his pants and pulled out his suppressed Walther P38.

As he aimed towards the stairwell, he saw the two guards lying dead, and ran up to them to confirm.

After pressing two fingers to the side of the neck of the guard lying against the wall, he raised his watch to his lips, "Waste Management, this is Burnside," he said, "Have followed targets, I can confirm hostile intentions. Permission to use deadly force?"

"Deadly force is authorized," Waste Management said, "No firearms unless fired upon."

"Copy that," Burnside said before holstering his pistol, "Fucking rules of engagement."

Burnside climbed the tower, and saw the three of them gathered around the window, "Here comes the President now," Luca said, "For our fathers."

"You know," Burnside said, causing all three of them to turn around, "If you want to shoot someone from an elevated position, a tripod might work a little bit better."

When he finished talking, Angelo reached into his coat to grab his pistol as Vito retrieved the bayonet, when Angelo pulled his pistol out, Burnside stepped to the side, and disabled the gun by pulling back on the slide.

He then kneed Angelo in the stomach before throwing his foot back, kicking Vito against the tower's sidewall.

As Luca reeled around with the rifle to fire, the suppressor caught on the edge of the window, which gave Burnside the bring his knee to Angelo's elbow, breaking it, and causing him to lose his grip on the pistol.

Luca freed the rifle and swing at Burnside, only for him to dodge, and kick him back against the wall. Vito then rushed in and pushed him against the wall.

As Vito went in for the stab, Burnside grabbed his wrist and jammed the knife two inches away from his ear into the wall.

Vito looked over to see the knife stuck in the wall, as Burnside heard Luca raise the rifle to fire, he kneed Vito in the groin, grabbed hold of the suppressor, and simply shoved it sideways, causing it to discharge into the wall.

Luca cycled the bolt, only for Burnside to bunt Vito in the throat, and as he leaned over to choke, Burnside kicked Luca backward, pushing him over the stair's iron railing.

As Luca landed, Angelo managed to bring his pistol up to above the level of Burnside's belt. Burnside grabbed Angelo's hand as it went off, and elbowed him in the face, breaking his nose.

When Angelo reeled back, Burnside wrapped his arm around his neck, and with a simple twist, his body went limp.

Vito stood back up, grabbed the knife out of the wall, and charged, Burnside grabbed his wrist, twisted it around to it was directly in line with Vito's chest, and then smashed his knee onto the pommel of the bayonet.

As Vito fell, the sound of someone running down the stairs drew his attention: Luca was trying to make a break for it.

"How'd he survive that," Burnside asked as he ran down the stairs.

As made it down the last step, he saw Luca reel around with Angelo's pistol, and the M1951 the cop Vito killed carried.

Quickly side-stepping into cover, he narrowly missed as Luca fired six rounds in his direction.

Luca ran out the door, and Burnside followed before raising his watch to speak, "Waste Management, need pickup at target location," he said, "One left, am pursuing."

Running down the street, Luca looked back to see Burnside, and fired three shots from the M1951, they missed because Burnside had taken cover behind an arched doorway.

The gunshots made the crowd stamped in opposite directions away from him, Burnside managed to push his way through the crowd as Vito made it to the waterways.

Luca quickly ran over to a waiting speedboat and aimed Angelo's pistol at the owner who was refueling, and as he saw him, he dropped the gas canister, causing gas to spill into the back seat.

"Fuori," Luca said as he ushered the man out of the boat.

The man exited the boat with his hands raised before Burnside came running up the street.

Luca saw him and raised the pistol to fire right before Burnside ducked back behind the wall.

Luca emptied the clip at him before starting up the boat and gunning the engine.

The boat's takeoff was slow but eventually built up enough speed to start moving, of course, it wasn't fast enough as Burnside managed to run his way down the docks, and jump to grab hold of the back.

Luca heard Burnside land in the back and turned around to see him climbing up toward the seats.

He quickly pulled the M1951 and aimed at him, but as he did, he struck the sidewall of the canal, and the bullet missed.

Luca turned back to continue driving before emptying the magazine in Burnside's direction.

Needless to say, shooting a gun blind while trying to hit someone is down to luck, or experience, and unfortunately, Luca didn't have luck on his side or the needed experience.

As the gun ran dry, Burnside climbed into the cabin right as Luca drove out into open water.

Luca grabbed Angelo's pistol, but when he turned around to fire, Burnside trapped the gun between his foot and the boat's dashboard.

Burnside pulled his P38 and fired himself, the bullet sprayed blood on the windshield, and dropped Luca against the wheel.

Sitting up, he looked up to see Luca's dead body was steering them directly into the path of an outgoing cargo ship.

He simply scrambled over the back and dove into the water as the boat impacted with the side of the cargo ship, and a spark from the cabin caused the gasoline that was covering the back seat to ignite.

There was so little left of the boat and the body that the police didn't bother with an autopsy.

Burnside's hotel was across the Laguna in Marghera, needless to say, arriving back at his hotel soaking wet, and smelling like the Laguna isn't a very pleasant sight or smell.

"Tutti i messagi per me," he asked as he walked up to the front desk.

"Sì, signore," the receptionist said as she reached behind the desk, and pulled out a letter, "Il tuo ufficio mandato mentre eri fuori."

"Grazie," he said as he opened the letter which was addressed to his real name, Eren Yaeger.

The letter contained his plane ticket back to New York where undoubtedly, his bosses were waiting to chew him out over the 'mess' he made during his mission.

"Devo mandare qualcuno a ritirare i tuoi vestiti," the receptionist asked.

"Sì," Eren said, "Li lascio fuori, appesi alla porta."

As he walked away, Eren could feel the receptionist's eyes on him as he walked toward the elevator, something he was accustomed to.

Many women found him attractive, but many of them wouldn't be all that attracted to him if they learned what he was doing this time three years ago.

Right about now, he couldn't care less, because as he entered the elevator, the repugnant smell of low-tide Venice smacked him clean in the nose. He had smelled worse, but right about now he needed to get out of those clothes of his, and take a shower.

Later that evening

Eren came walking out of his hotel's bathroom, scrubbing down his arms with the second towel he had to use after taking two showers to get rid of the smell permeating off of his skin.

"Worst mission ever," he said as he walked over to put on his nightclothes.

The bed itself was very comfortable, and the silk sheets were fantastic, shame though he had to be back at his office after he touched down in New York, something he wasn't looking forward to.
